Guest Reviews
- Maria del Carmen (10/5): - The hotel is old but very clean, with nice staff. The area is a regular downtown, big city area, so not very touristy but fine otherwise. There are several cafes/bakeries around to buy a cheap breakfast plus a tasty gyro place very close by. Subway is one block away as well, but it's walkable to the Parthenon (30 min)
- Paul (10/5): - The Team were lovely, very friendly and welcoming.
The Hotel itself is centrally located and easy to get to anywhere from there
It is quaint but probably needs a lock of paint to modernise the hotel as the decor is a bit dated.
Front Street rooms can be noisy, but that’s more of an Athens traffic problem than a Hotel problem
- Hailey (6/5): - Decent hotel. Walls are paper thin
- edgarr489 (2/5): Worst hotel experience ever. Do not book here. - During my stay at Ares Athens Hotel, the cleaning staff took my personal towel from my luggage (much better quality than the old, worn-out ones they provide). I placed their used towels on one side of the room and my own towel on top of my suitcase, clearly separate. When I came back, my towel was gone.
Reception staff admitted it was likely sent to laundry “by mistake,” but never took responsibility and refused to involve the manager. Later they denied everything and claimed I “probably lost it.” Completely unacceptable – my belongings were taken without consent.
To make matters worse, the facilities were in terrible condition: dirty, worn-out towels, poorly maintained rooms, and unhelpful staff.
I had to escalate this through Hotels.com, who finally refunded me as a gesture of goodwill – not the hotel. That says everything about how this property treats its guests.
⚠️ Be warned: what you save in price, you lose in safety, cleanliness, and peace of mind. Spend a little more and stay somewhere honest and professional.
- Ralitsa Kirilova (10/5): - The room was spotless, the air conditioner was excellent. It was very convenient to walk to the bus station (20 min) The 2 staff I mentioned in the previous comment are truly one in million!

- Ming (6/5): - Ok with thod proce
- Ming (2/5): - Need to clean carefully, we find bed bugs on the beds. Otherwise everything is ok
- Rachel Jayne (6/5): - It was a good location and close walking distance to all the tourist attractions. Staff was friendly and check in and out was quick. When I booked this hotel the pictures online look more luxurious than it was. The bed had lost its cushioning and I would feel the springs as I slept.
- Ramon Roberto (6/5): - It is ok hotel but room was too small, definitely not big like in the picture! Very few amenities.
- Galina (4/5): - Outdated every
- Bruce (4/5): Inexpensive and close to Metro - Would I stay here again knowing what I know? No. Would I recommend to a friend? No.
We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. We booked on Hotels.com. We wanted a place that was close to a Metro station and that was inexpensive. The hotel ticks both of the checks. Everything else about the hotel was horrible.
The shower did not have a proper surround at its bottom so you end up getting water all over the bathroom floor. The towels must be air drying and washed without using softener as they were “crusty.” There were stains on the walls and floors from previous guests that had not been properly cleaned. There were broken handles on doors. The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows were horrible. The hotel tried to do some updating in the room by adding some bed lights. However in doing so they used exposed screws so if you had an adapter you could not use the electrical socket (see my picture of this). There was no safe. And it was loud - not just from the traffic outside but from stuff going on inside the hotel - and I’m talking late at night (2:00am). Thankfully we did not get bedbugs, mostly due to the fact that we slept above the covers in full sweat pants and tops.
It is in a sketchy part of town with lots of graffiti. However, it is a short 10 minute walk to the Plaka. We did not feel unsafe when we walked there.
- Navigator01750060853 (2/5): Horrible stay - The worst hotel i ever stayed im.
Looks nothing like the pictures on booking.
Bad smell and dirty sheets.
And uses the 8 star review on 2016...
- Z4369KL_ (2/5): Horrible we left the next night - The room was not clean at all the, there is a weird smell that just won’t pass,
And it looks nothing like the pictures on booking.
- Sophia (8/5): - Good hotel for the price - shower-head isn’t mounted properly, beds are very firm, but overall a decent place to stay. Air conditioning was great. Located a 10 minute walk from touristy areas, decent neighborhood.
- Waheed (2/5): Disappointment - Everything in this hotel is old, please don’t waist your time and money on this hotel,
- Agnieszka (6/5): - The property was decent for the price.
- Emily (2/5): - Any business that cannot even spell its name properly is not ready for business. They hotel was stuffy. We booked 3 nights and stayed 2. We spent the entire day out, and came back to no lights in the corridor and no lights in our room. We were provided other accomadations, however the following morning attendant accussed us of causing the outage. The Audacity.
- wahid (10/5): - Not bad for the price, water pressure in the shower needs help
- Maribel (4/5): - The hotel is good located just 20 minutes walking for the Acropolis, the problem were the towels, stiff and old towels, no even a bottle of water in the room,
- Robert (10/5): For the money, GREAT! - For the money! Just AWESOME... Main reason why we picked this hotel is because of the front desk 24/7.
Super close to the train. Short walk. We weren't expecting much for the price but this was really a welcome treat. The room even had a mini fridge! We will stay again !
- Alan (10/5): - Very kind people and helpful
- JEAN-BERNARD (8/5): - Great location.
- Elis (2/5): - When closed bathroom door it locked. Had to go at reception 2am to pick up bathroom keys. They have no service phone to call reception and the lift takes ages to go up & down. Area around it’s dirty & unsafe.
- Vasilios (8/5): - Great location but a little noisy, close to everything would probably stay there again
- CLAUDIA (4/5): - The staff at the reception was not very friendly.
The hotel and room were old looking and not very nice.
The area around the hotel is noisy and not very nice.
- Shant (8/5): - Close to the bakery, the metro, Hellenic Library, some graffiti and litter. Nice fountain rotunda near!
- Ronen (10/5): - Great location service was good however they need to improve the place a little bit. Need some work but it’s good place for the price.
- Daniel (10/5): - Great location near the Metro and city center. Hotel was safe and clean. Staff was very helpful.
Buy Metro passes. Everything is nearby. Metro to beach tram was also easy.
- david huw (10/5): Clean, conveniently placed hotel - Clean, quiet room in a very convenient place in athens. Walking distance to most attractions but also very close to the metro
- MIGUEL (10/5): - Great place to stay at for your visit to Athens. Conveniently located, 2 minutes from Metro station. Food - cafe options *
- Murat Kamil (2/5): The worst hotel that I had been stayed ever - This is not a hotel, this is a low condition hostel. I will never work with you again.
- Chandrabhan (8/5): - Service was great, staff were very friendly and helpful in every way. This is not a five star hotel so you get what you pay for, we just needed a place to sleep and were quite happy, nothing to complain about. It's located right near Omonia Square where you will find shopping and restaurants. Just a few minutes walk to the Central Market. The walk to Syntagma square is only about 15 mins but it will take much longer because of all the shops you'll find along the way. Will definitely stay here again when I return.
- Janis (2/5): Would not pay more than 30 eur for room here... - This hotel is in a shockingly poor state and clearly neglected. No effort has been made to keep it in good condition. The rooms smelled unpleasant and had zero sound insulation — the noise from the busy street outside was unbearable all night. We found exposed electrical cables in the bathroom covered with sellotape, and a broken bedside nightlight with exposed wires — both serious safety hazards. The shower was also leaking. Charging €90 per night for such conditions is unacceptable. At €30, it might barely be tolerable, but at this price, it is a complete rip-off. Avoid.
- John (8/5): - Staff were very friendly, the room was clean, the balcony was small but enjoyed it. The location was great.everything was within a half hour walk. The price was right.
- Kong (10/5): - 1. Hotel is less than 5 minutes walk to/from the Omonia Metro which is the station for services to/from the airport (9 euro as at May 2025)
2. Hotel is less than 10 minutes walk to/from Monastiraki which is one entry point to the main tourist sites such as the Acropolis
3. The room space and bathroom were a good size, and was sufficient for 2 guests travelling with medium-sized suitcases
4. Small bar fridge to keep food/drinks cold
5. Close to a self-service laundromat
- Reynaldo (8/5): - Not bad for the price.
- Abdon (10/5): - Great location very close to the port and friendly staff.
- hua (6/5): - The hostel is located by the busiest traffic road. People without house lives right outside the hotel. The facilities are old, the elevator wasn't working properly, I had to carry my luggages to second floor. We did not get the room that we found from the booking picture. The floor tiles were losing, it makes big noise when someone walks. The walls were not soundproof ,we could cleanly hear the conversations and car motions outside our room. The first receptionist was not friendly and helpless when I asked for advice on car parking. There were neither greeting nor goodbyes upon our arrival or departure. We traveled 18 days in Greece, stayed in several hotel or b&b, this is the only one we had to offer our concerns.
- Andi (10/5): - The staff was very welcoming and helpful 😊
- Minh Duy (8/5): - Overall it was great stay. I’m ok the noise from the road but someone will mind. The curtain in the bathroom should be removed or redesigned. It’s uncomfortable
- Jude (8/5): Decent stay in Athens … - 3 night trip to Athens , booked it because it was close to Subway. The neighbourhood is not to most glamorous in the city but it’s doable. Room was clean and the hotel was good none the less.
- Shakhnoza (10/5): - The hotel is just a minute walk from Omonia metro station and it’s on a main road - you don’t have to go into any sketchy alleyways. I was alone and felt totally safe walking to/from the hotel.
The room was clean and the bathroom was spotless.
- Sarah (8/5): - The room was spotlessly clean, and as described. It was very convenient for all attractions and we were able to walk to everywhere as needed. We would stay here again and really enjoyed our time in Athens.
- Megan (8/5): - Ares Athens Hotel provided a mostly comfortable stay for my friend and I this weekend. The beds were a little hard, but from the amount we walked everyday, we fell right asleep every night. The rooms were mostly clean except for finding hairs on the sheets and on the blankets. The location, although a little sketchy at night, was a very short walk to all of the tourist attractions and very good food. The cleaning service was great and the staff was very friendly. Definitely would recommend if you’re on a budget.
- Santiago (6/5): - Location is perfect if you want to move around. It is in the centre of Athens.Well serve by public transport. Near to all amenities
- Thanh (6/5): - Good location for walking to see the sights. Nothing fancies about the hotel. It is clean and had a nice balcony that if you lean out, you can see the fountain of Omonoia.
- thanoso2024 (10/5): very satisfied - Very clean place to stay and the staff was very friendly and helpfull . All the historical places of Athens are near the hotel and you can go by foot without feel any kind of danger, neither at night. I will surely visit the hotel at the future, again.
- Arpad (10/5): - This hotel offered me a very good value.
- Joaquin (10/5): - A basic hotel, very clean and with a 24-hour reception. About 10 minutes walk from plaza Monastiraki.
- francois (10/5): - The hotel is close to the shopping Centre of 10 floor, restaurants, cafés and shops. 20 mins walk to the acropolis and all the tourist sites and squares. Friendly, nicely and helpful staff. Thanks. Bonnefoi
- Abboud (8/5): - I liked that the room is big and well equipped
I didn't like that the room was a bit cold
- HEIDI (2/5): - The hotel is not in the centre . It’s on the outskirts of where you want to be. This is an honest review. It’s the dirtiest hotel I’ve been to. There were stains on the pillow case. The fridge didn’t work and was in an old broken cupboard . I felt very unsafe here even when I checked in mid afternoon. I immediately took photos and went online to find somewhere else to stay despite having paid for 4 nights in advance. I took the key to reception and told them and they didn’t seem surprised that I left.
- Arun (10/5): - Perfect Budget Friendly Hotel, with all the basic necessities that you need! Conveniently located in the Center of the City, making it very accessible to catch all the Transportation options in Athens! The Staff was extremely kind and helpful! I would definitely stay here again, save money on Hotel costs to spend more enjoying the city! Thanks Ares Athens Hotel for a Great Stay!
- Rosalba (8/5): - Good property for the money, very well location. One part doesn't seems safe, but we didn't have any safety issue.
- Martin Claud (2/5): - The property was not cleaned properly, when we checked in the room had not been cleaned. The wifi was very slow, there were bare wires. It was in a good spot. There were fleas and bedbugs. The hotel photos are not the hotel now.
- Eglantina (8/5): - Renovation,close to center
- Alberto (8/5): - Very convenient option for a brief journey in Athens
- Dirk (4/5): - This hotel has bedbugs
- jhun_di (10/5): Everything you need in central Athens, Very close to metro, clean, comfortable and pleasant staff. - I've stayed here several times now. For its price range you couldn't do better. 2 minutes from Omonia metro. On a main street so absolutely safe. Clean, cotton sheets and towels, simple toiletries, everything you need including fridge , decent sound proofing from street noise, air con and very pleasant staff. Room cleaning is daily if you wish.
No breakfast but you don't need it. The excellent Orange coffee shop with a wide range of sandwiches, coffee. fresh fruit salad and juice, cakes and hot pastries is just a few steps away.
Overall clean, not shabby a few very minor signs of wear and despite some reviews citing bed bugs I'd say this: Bedbugs are brought in by unwary travellers. You can find them in way more expensive places. Check the mattress seams and if there are any that's where you'll find them.
I never have here. Mattresses look new and fresh. I always check.
The odd errant mosquito is more likely the culprit.
This is now my first choice in Athens. My previous regular Omonia hotel is now much more expensive and the Aris is just as good. I book it for friends travelling through Athens too now. Everybody happy.
- Kyle (2/5): - You get what you pay for. This property was in a rough area of the city, so do not stay if you are a single female.
-The bed was so hard that my girlfriend and I woke up with back pain every morning.
-The bathroom was tiny and the shower head kept falling down out of its holder.
-The sink had no where to place toiletries.
-The towels were thin and had the name of the hotel in black marker.
-There was no safe in the room to lock away valuables and the maids clean every day whether you want them to or not.
-The one positive is that the A/C worked well.
- Kane (10/5): - Really good location and very good value. Pretty much everything is within walking distance. Well worth considering.
- Corinne (4/5): - The street of the hotel is dirty and there are a lot of strange/homeless people. It seems safe, because there are more hotels in the neighbourhood.
The hotel was clean, respect for the cleaners.
The receptionists are fine, but they didn't really welcome us or give any information.
The room was very outdated with old furniture. Especially the bathroom was really old. The photos are very outdated.
There was no breakfast, no water, no coffee machine, etc.
- Kane (10/5): - This is a really good location, with just about everything in central Athens easily within walking distance. The rooms have a good fridge and it's also good value
- Martha (6/5): - Hotel very old, needs updating, washroom very small and do not have anything to place the towels, mattress extremely uncomfortable, you can feel the mattress springs, the door on the bathroom needs to be replaced as it’s all following apart, the sink had a broken knob…..however the location is good close to dining, shopping, subway station and attractions, price was very reasonable.
If they renovated it will be a good place to stay.
- Kane (8/5): - This hotel is very good value, and it's in a very good location, within walking distance of all forms of transport and everything else in Athens.
- Joe (8/5): - Great value for around €30. Get what you pay for. Would consider staying here again on a budget.
- Joanna (2/5): - Worst experience ever
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay! - The staff was excellent, the room was clean. The only concern I had was feeling the springs under the mattress. It was not bad but hopefully management can take this into account.
- Hassan (8/5): - It was my first visit to Athens , I was lucky to receive the assistance and recommendations from Mr. Thanassi working in the reception and then really enjoyed my time visiting these areas and using the transportation he explained to me .
My Regards
- Andrew Fitzgerald (10/5): - ×
- George (10/5): - Great hotel run by a family, very friendly and great location.
- George (10/5): - Comfortable family run hotel, very friendly and accommodating...we have extended our stay 3 times. Great location, all the main attractions are nearby.
- Guilherme (4/5): - At first, it seemed like a reasonable place for its price. However, once we got inside the bedroom, it had this really strong cigarette smell, the bathroom is very old (but it’s functional).
Wouldn’t come back.
- Jannet (2/5): - The room smelled of smoke. The area where the hotel is located feels unsafe.
- David (8/5): - I didnt like the fact that I had to pay approximately $6 US dollars fee. They never told me why these fee. But is not fair for the customer. Hidden fees
- Alain (10/5): - Nice service, good location
- Chris (10/5): - Grwat hotel.
- Raymond David (2/5): - Property was in a rough area trash thrown everywhere graffiti over all walls ac not working properly went out early to get away from there and back late had to use taxis because of distance and safety issues , I tried the tram but caught someone with there hand in my pocket . It’s worth paying extra to be close to the acropolis or acropolis museum believe me you will save in the long run. There is nothing I could say was nice about ares Athens hotel even the balcony felt unsafe and the sink in the bathroom kept moving and almost fell when I leaned on it . Very disappointed why haven’t anyone inspected this hotel !!
- Sandra (4/5): - The floors in the rooms were dirty, the towels were awful. I doubt the bathrooms were ever thoroughly cleaned. If we could have, we would have moved to another hotel. We were told by several local people that the surrounding area at night was unsafe for tourists. On the positive side, they did have people at the reception desk 24/7.
- Vladimir (6/5): Central, but area around is not good - Just a 3 stars. Surrounding area is not the one to stay in.
- Natasha (8/5): - Fine for the price (:
- Adedayo (10/5): - All the Receptionist are customer friendly clean environment easy to go into town
- Salinas (10/5): - Everyone at the front desk was so sweet and helpful! Specifically Nicolas. Our room was very clean and had what we needed.
- Charlotte (8/5): - This hotel is nice, clean, located near to the metro station and will cover your basic needs. The reception staff are also really friendly and helpful. It’s nothing fancy but we had a pleasant stay.
- joan (4/5): - This was in a disgusting area .this hotel is so old … I do not understand why it’s still showing a place to stay .
- Witold (6/5): - Good location.
- Thomas (2/5): - floorboards broken, sheets not matching, old furniture, little shampoo, only 1 towel. dirty and very old , everything needs upgrading,
- bilge nur (8/5): - It was quiet and safe place and has easy access to metro
- Alexander (10/5): - Good place to stay
- Fernando (6/5): - The staff was very helpful- close to subway- clean room- lift was helpful for disabled Mother-
- Ammar (8/5): - nice stay for it's price
- amit (2/5): Don't - Stayed a night and left. Didnt even have bed sheets. That pissed me off enough to just leave. Double the price you'll live like a king. It's not worth it.
- Carmen (10/5): - This property was awesome.. the staff was very pleasant and its literally so close to the main city that you can see it from the balcony.. would definitely recommend.. the price was awesome and housekeeping was done everyday
- Mihai (2/5): - Stay away from this place! Linens are dirty, the mattress reeks of urine, it has bed bugs. Overall a disaster. Pictures from their website are not real.
- yonas (6/5): - The staff were wonderful. We did not like the lock on the door. It was not a good lock. Anyone could open the door easily. My wife kept blocking the door with a chair when we slept. The building next to the hotel is abandoned and has a lot of graffiti and make one feels unsafe
- yonas (4/5): - The staff are very friendly l, welcoming and helpful. They made us feel at home. But the property is not worth the money we paid for.
- RUSUDAN (8/5): - Location excellent.property condition very poor.Staff and service very nice
- mackenzie (8/5): - The staff was lovely and very welcoming. We enjoyed our first time in athens.
- NADER (10/5): FRIENDLY HOTEL - IT IS CLEAN AND CLOSE TO ATRACTIVE AREA ,PEOPLE WAS FRIENDLY
