Guest Reviews
- ELAINE (10/5): - Lovely food and great hospitality
- Raz (8/5): - Goid place
- Clement (10/5): - Great food. Friendly welcome and staff
- stephen (10/5): Good country pub and accommodation with great food - Excellent friendly helpful staff, room was clean and bed was comfy, bathroom and shower good as well with nice products. Food in bar was very good and also breakfast full English and other courses available and good with excellent coffee. Jigsaw in bar which we done in the evening with a couple of good beers. Good parking facilities.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Old World Charm - A friendly olde worlde hotel set in rural Surrey
Many of the beers have a very low carbon footprint, tasty brews made locally.
Great stopping place en route to or from Gatwick.
- Alastair (8/5): - An overnight stay on the way home. Some difficulty finding it blame satnav.
Although late we had a great meal, breakfast was also very good
Staff friendly,in splendid countryside.
- Julia (10/5): What a fantastic little place - Having had a 3 hour drive down, we were greeted with a smile and two delightful rooms. Crisp linen and a smile. Food was fabulous (try the scotch eggs). Beer was good and the conversation was great. Will come back when visiting family. Fully booked for Sunday lunch so make sure you book if coming to stay. Judging by the 3 courses we had well worth booking
- adam (8/5): Quiet Pub Location. - Nice pub in quiet village. good location. Good food.
- david (6/5): - Very nice pub, gooc food and beer. My room was very small but adequate for one night. Could have done with more than one veggie option on the menu, very nice.
- Andrew (10/5): Saturday night in Coldharbour - Lovely Saturday night away up at Leith Hill. We arrived for a late lunch. We’d booked a double room for the night but when the staff saw our two Labradors - they gave us a much bigger room.
Everyone was really friendly at the pub and the Plough is perfect for exploring the beautiful countryside around Coldharbour. The food was excellent and the service superb. Breakfast was really good.
It feels really ‘different’ up there - lovely walks and stunning views. We’ll be back.
- Heather (10/5): - Beautiful location
Lovely pub and wonderful people
- Donald (10/5): - 3 miles from town center but an excellent place for quiet and walking the countryside. Perfect for hikers and mountain biking.
- anthony (10/5): - Excellent stay and really pleasant staff. Certainly made welcome here
- David (10/5): - The staff was top notch. Very welcoming, had an issue with the room and they had no problem switching the room. Will return!
- MIKE (10/5): - Very friendly and proactive staff. Nice room, well decorated, with a comfy bed. Excellent food, both dinner and breakfast, good beer selection. Had a delightful stay.
- Mark (10/5): - Great quirky pub with rooms in the Surrey hills. Cyclist paradise as we woke in the morning to hundreds stopping for a drink or refreshments. Only complaint that the pub closed early even for residents, however great homemade food.
- Mark (10/5): - Great service staff very helpful
- Maggie (8/5): Lovely - The hotel was lovely staff were very friendly ans welcoming. The room was pretty small. Bathroom felt more like a cuboard really designed for bigger people. But for the price we paid for a couple nights and breakfast included it was perfect.
- Gillian (6/5): - Could have been cleaner (check toilet bowl), no t bags or spoon, kettle too big to fit under bathroom tap. A bright light outside the window on all night and a compressor noise all night. The worst thing was the outside metal stairs to get to the bedrooms, had it been raining I wouldn't have stayed. Food limited to what is offered on certain nights. The host was brilliant but his wife really shouldn't serve breakfast in her 'nightie'. Amazing location for walking and cycling.
- Melvyn (8/5): Quirky place to stay - The location of the hotel is stunning, with great views from the top of Leith. Very, very quiet surroundings. The room was comfortable but with repairs needed to furniture and equipment. Food was good quality but be prepared for a wait. An interesting stay!
- Karen (8/5): - The staff were exceptionally nice and friendly.
The property was a 20min walk from Leith Hill.
Food was excellent, room comfortable.
- Neil (4/5): - The room was very noisy and the bed uncomfortably. The room was very small and bathroom tiny. The headboard was loose so I had to put a pillow behind it so as not to move during sleep.
The food was tasty but limited breakfast although the manager di accommodate an early breakfast for us. Overall not the best stay but the manager did say he was just about to go into a re furbishment programme so best of luck to him
- Geoffrey (10/5): - We booked at The Plough for a night while exploring the Surrey Hills. The welcome was warm and the staff super helpful and nice to talk to!
The room was nicely decorated with good bed linens and high quality amenities. There was a little noise from the pub below during the evening but nothing to worry about and that stopped at closing time. This is a village pub but NOT a rowdy one!
We dined in the restaurant on the evening and had breakfast the next day. All food was super tasty and good value. Do eat there if you're staying there as you will certainly enjoy the food!
All in all a lovely stay and we would certainly consider visiting again.
- Andrew (6/5): - This was a mixed bag of a stay. The staff is very pleasant and the food at the inn really was excellent. The room itself seemed to have rather less attention to details. The entryway to the rooms was rather cluttered with linens laundry bags which remained throughout our stay, and only about half of the lights in the room worked, leaving it quite dim at all times. The staff noted to us the problem with the lights as we checked in but they seemed strangely uninterested in doing anything about it and this remained unaddressed. We also noted a bit of mold in the shower and ceiling in the bathroom which shouldn’t be tolerated. All in all this wasn’t a terrible stay, but if you have other options I would suggest considering those instead.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Needs an upgrade - The hotel was very shabby but not chic. Initially I was given a small room at the rear of the hotel. Wardrobe non functioning, door wedged closed with a coffee table. Inside very dusty with someone else’s clothes in a carrier bag. Shower room cramped and grubby with mould around the ceiling. Bed was clean and comfortable. Water hot but not draining properly. After complaining I was given a larger better room but lights didn’t work over the bathroom mirror. Paint peeling off the ceiling. Bed very comfortable. Management apologised for the state of the rooms and said they were waiting a refurbishment. Breakfasts were well prepared and tasty. I was given a 30% reduction on my bill. I don’t recommend this hotel until it is given a full renovation both inside and outside. Not appropriate for the elderly or disabled because all bedrooms are accessed up an outside metal fire staircase. It was a pity because the village of cold harbour was very pretty.
- Glen (10/5): - A lovely place to get away, We only overnighted here, but we will be back. Very professional and friendly staff. Close to Gatwick but felt as if it was in some quite haven.
- Alana (10/5): - Wonderful staff and amazing food
- Paul (8/5): - This was a lovely Inn, very pleasant and helpful staff, we arrived at midday and was able to check in straight way as rooms were ready, normal check in 3pm. The rooms were a little on the small side but adequate. The curtains in our room were hanging off the rail just needed some hooks. The wardrobe door did not stay shut but a convenient side table was placed there to keep it shut. The towel rail in the bathroom was not working, and when we had a shower it was not draining away so overflowed out onto the bathroom floor. The outside of the property looks a little tired, in need of a lick of paint. We had dinner there but 4 of the mains were unavailable as sold out earlier in the day, there was also no cheese for the cheeseboard option in desserts, but what we had very was very good. Steaks were cooked just as requested.
overall we had a pleasant stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Foreign solo travelers beware, unhelpful staff - First off, this Inn is NOT in Dorking as it states on the address, (as I based my decision to stay here) it is miles outside of the village. The buses that supposedly run through the area do not exist and I was basically laughed at by the staff when I asked about them. Without a car, you have to order a taxi hours in advance and it is about 30 pounds to go anywhere, even a few miles. The staff was not helpful or friendly when I told them of my predicament. There was also a lack of basic amenities (hair dryer, iron), the WIFI was spotty and the power went out multiples times. All and all, a very unfortunate and expensive experience for a solo traveler without a car. NOTE: I have requested hotels.com to update the information to reflect the true location and they still have not done so.
- ELAINE (10/5): - Beautiful, rural setting with friendly helpful hosts.
- fran (6/5): - Very expensive for what it was
- MJ Furlong (10/5): A gem on the Hillside - I travelled alone for social a occasion, and found the plough inn to be set in idyllic surroundings. The hospitality was excellent, and the food was highly rated. I would definitely visit this little gem nestled in Surrey Hills again.
- Paul (10/5): - Really a cool place to stay .... excellent location and a vast variety of hiking/biking trails. Excellent pub and pleasant hand helpful staff. Plus ... they brewed their own on site real ale.
- Tom (8/5): - Lovely pub
- Brian (10/5): - Great atmosphere, excellent service from the manager.
- Peter (10/5): - As advertised
- Jay (10/5): Cute and comfy - Lovely little Inn/Pub. Delicious dinner and breakfast. It's not right in Dorking, but area is beautiful. We took a nice 1.25-mile walk to the Leith Tower.
- Selden (8/5): - A quaint and charming inn in a small village setting, a 4 mile drive south of Dorking (on a *very* narrow country lane in a dark forest setting).
The room was small and tidy, but had unbearably slow internet, or none at all. Had to go to the pub to get a signal. Pub food was excellent, and the free breakfast outstanding. All in all a very nice place with a few shortcomings.
- Phillip (10/5): - Excellent
- Simon (6/5): - If you're looking for a quirky chilled stay in the middle of nowhere, The Plough is the place for you. Unfortunately not what I was looking for on this trip. The positives - the food was excellent, the room was clean and quiet, and there's a micro-brewery on site. The negatives - the dinner service was chaotic, there was a drain smell in our bathroom and in the morning front-of-house was conducted by a woman on maternity leave carrying a baby! It was all a bit surreal for us!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Charming staff and good food. Nice friendly English pub atmosphere. A little find.
- Thomas (10/5): - Excellent food and craft beer selection. Family and dog friendly, staff are awesome, very friendly and welcoming. Very good bed and breakfast rates.
- Mary (10/5): - Amazing experience and an unexpected wonderful location. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. Our room was very clean and quiet, and the meals were 5 star. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
- Wolfgang (10/5): Wish I would have stayed longer! - This was an amazing stay. The countryside is incredible and the location is ideal. Our room was above the pub and it seemed to be just recently renovated--everything seemed brand new.
The owner was super and the diner and breakfast was also very well done.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Great and an amazing pub.
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely position near to beautiful scenery. The accomodation was attractive and welcoming. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and breakfast was very appetising. The room was compact, and the paintwork was peeling in places and needed an overhaul. Otherwise it was comfortable and pleasant. Probably a larger room would be better next time. We would recommend this Inn and love to return.
- Thomas (10/5): - Fantastic 16th century pub with awesome character. The food is exceptionally good, evening meal was delicious and the full english breakfast was fantastic. Very good cask ales in the pub and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very quaint and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again on our next visit to the UK, only 30 minutes easy drive to Gatwick Airport. Well done to everyone at the Plough, first class service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly chilled atmosphere
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable room - good food and friendly service
- Rosemary (10/5): One night stay - Olde worlde pub very good food very good service. Only problem is going upstairs to your room outside if you had walking difficulties then it would be hard. But had a wonderful night their 😀
- Denise (10/5): Great for overnight stay in the Downs - Lovely over night trip after a walk on the North Downs. Would recommend
- Verified traveler (8/5): Wonderful stay at the inn - Lovely escape in beautiful countryside, very comfortable bedroom. Great to have meals inside and outside
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great meals & comfortable bed in a lovely hotel in a nice part of Surrey.
- Mike (8/5): - Very nice property, beautiful drive from Dorking, food was great.
Only problem was they would not provide a receipt for my stay and dinner so i could not be reimbursed for the cost, i tried calling and emailing multiple times
Would recommend staying here otherwise
- William (10/5): - Was surprised the kitchen was closed by 5pm on Sunday night, a bit inconvenient but otherwise very pleasant and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice and clean - lovely room, great food and friendly staff
- John (10/5): Top c;ass - Great place if Im in the area again I would stay at this place in a heartbeat great staff, great food, and an excellent room. Could not fault it.
- Shairead (8/5): Great nights sleep - small room but very comfortable bed, great nights sleep. shower was tiny, but functional.
- Tanya (10/5): - Very clean. A great bathroom with an excellent shower. A good selection of breakfast.
- Marie (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful premises, spotlessly clean and the food was stunning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the setting and the tranquility of the area. Attended a wedding at the Queens Regiment Woodlands and it was a very scenic 15 min drive from The Plough Inn. Everything about the hotel was excellent, the room, friendly staff, cleanliness, yummy breakfasts and the help of staff pointing us in the right direction. We will definitely return and next time with our little Bichon Frise fur baby. Highly recommend The Plough Inn !!
- David (10/5): 1 night B&B for business - Comfy room, attentive service, good evening food and drink... good breakfast options in the morning.
- Jane (10/5): Romance - Delightful, great food, charming staff, a wonderful location to visit the bluebell woods and a little romance
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean and comfortable room. Good food. Friendly staff. Lovely country environment
- James (10/5): Great - especially if you like a soft mattress - As good as the other reviews you're read.
Only negative........ I found the mattress too soft, way too soft.
- Debs (10/5): - We came across The Plough online by chance and hadn’t done much research before we booked but we were so impressed. The decor is really tasteful, the staff lovely and the food yummy! Great location too.
- Paula (10/5): Beautiful location - Really lovely hotel with beautiful views. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was very comfortable and nicely decorated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed for one night, wish we could have stayed longer. Rooms look exactly like the pictures. Check in easy, room was warm and bed super comfy. Lovely breakfast and friendly staff. Couldn't have picked a nicer place to stay.
- Paul (10/5): Pub with good rooms and great food. - This Pub is a very pleasant stay in the middle of the country, a short (steep) walk away from Leith Hill summit. The village is accessed up a narrow winding, but beautiful, road from Dorking.
My room was wonderful with a very large comfortable bed. The only downside being a slight amount of noise from below as all the rooms appear to be above the bar area.
The staff were great and the food (both dinner and breakfast) were very good indeed.
In terms of value for money, this was super - the room, breakfast and dinner, including some drinks, cost me exactly the same as the room alone at one of the major chains (with good beds) a few miles away.
I would have no hesitation in making this my first choice for my next visit to the area.
- John (10/5): Business trip, visit. - Very good experience, good food, nice pub atmosphere.
Accommodation and service were very good.
- Ian (10/5): Plough in - Hotel and food lovely - difficult to access (road) but nice. Room was on the front so was noisy with deliveries ... and someone selotspung at 06:00hrs outside!!!
- Bob (8/5): Nice place in the country - Only stopped one night but the room was nice but a bit small, staff were VERY friendly
- London (8/5): Nice country inn - Nice pub with rooms nice evening meal and good breakfast. We were part of a group who stayed attending a wedding slightly disappointed charged extra for a late coffee when coffee in jugs with milk was provided could not really see the difference. A little extra customer service goes a long way.
- Graeme (10/5): A Great Hidden Treasure - Short stopover on way to airport next day. Good to experience this very friendly Inn
- Ian (10/5): A little gem in the Surrey Hills - What a lovely place in the Surrey Hills. Peaceful, very pleasant surroundings. Staff were really friendly and helpful, the limited menu in the restaurant was good quality. Overall very good value for money and would return
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quiet, relaxing location. - Great little Pub with guest rooms, I prefer these type of locations to stay rather then a Hilton or Radisson hotels, which have no character. Nice place to relax after work and chill out. Welcoming and helpful staff, great Breakfast.
