Guest Reviews
- Tomas (10/5): - Amazing location. Center of old town. Owner was very responsive and helpful. Breakfast was to die for.
- Rhoda (10/5): - Great views
- Phil (10/5): - Great location within Diocletian's palace. Very clean. Great breakfast included. Literally in the middle of everything but still private and quiet. Host was great. Would stay here again.
- Michelle Leanne (10/5): - Excellent historical location. Comfy beds, AC, amazing views, super clean, one-of-a kind location far more special than a typical hotel. Stone and wood but completely updated amenities. To find it, go to the Hotel Vesibul, it’s 10 feet away. That’s also where you will have breakfast, and it’s an incredible breakfast! Loved our stay here and would definitely return.
- Janice (4/5): - The hotel has a few positives — the breakfast was good, the location is excellent, and we were able to arrange a late checkout. Unfortunately, the downsides outweighed these. The TV was not working, and when I contacted the host to report it, there was no response. The bathroom flooded whenever we took a shower, and upon arrival we found a dead bug and a chocolate wrapper on the floor, which raised concerns about cleanliness.
If you’re only looking for a central location, this place delivers. Otherwise, it felt more like an Airbnb experience than a proper hotel stay.
- Joe (8/5): - Great room!! Great breakfast! Lots of stairs to carry our luggage
- Elizabeth (10/5): - We loved to be in the heart of old town. We were greeted with such great hospitality. People are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was awesome. Room was very nice, quiet and clean, cold AC , great !
- Angela (10/5): - Adorable comfortable room right in the center of town, where we could tour the entire palace because we were just steps away! Super quiet, did not hear a single sound all night because the walls are solid stone. Ivan our host, picked us up from the airport for 35euros and whisked us right through traffic and got us situated. He was always available by phone for any questions or suggestions. Very safe area with many food and shopping options. Highly recommend! Breakfast included at Hotel Vestibule next door- delicious.
- Elka (8/5): - Beautiful room and lovely location.
- Marissa (10/5): - The staff went above and beyond to help us find the property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A great stay in the heart of Split Old Town - A really comfortable stay in the heart of Split Old Town, with easy access to the Riva and bars/restaurants. The accommodation was great - clean bathroom, great shower, bed and surprisingly not as noisy as I thought it was going to be, in the centre. Breakfast in the courtyard in the mornings was great. Ivan was a great host.
- Robert (8/5): - This is a nice property and well organised.
- Jeanette (6/5): Great location - The hotel is three rooms in a separate building. The location is great and the room is lovely, but there are some issues
A lot of the space in the wardrobe and cupboards is taken up with storing linens. There aren’t any drawers to put clothes in. The wardrobe is only half height so impossible to store dresses. There is a kettle but no cups or coffee provided.
The tv didn’t work and the door didn’t lock initially. The door lock was sorted really quickly but the tv didn’t
All in all the location is the best thing about the hotel
- Pamela (10/5): Great room in Old Town. - Beautiful location in the old town. Just a few apartments/rooms in the building. Quiet on a little square. Amazing breakfast included at the hotel next door that had tables out on the small square. Good air conditioning (needed it!) and comfortable bed. All you need for a few days exploring Split.
- Tack (10/5): - Great location and great breakfast!
- Melissa (10/5): - This was the most amazing stay! To be within the palace walls itself was an absolute treat and the walkability is unmatched. It truly takes you back in time and we feel so fortunate to have been able to stay here. The breakfast was also unreal next door!
- Christa (10/5): - Amazing room in the beauty of the Diocletian Palace! Be sure to enjoy the early morning walks without the crowds. Yes there are stairs, but so worth the view, bells and location of this special retreat. Breakfast was excellent and airport transfer with Ivan was easy.
- Lynn (8/5): - Location in palace was amazing. Beautiful and central. Only problem was we had to pay in cash instead of credit card. ATMs charge much higher rate than my bank
- alan (10/5): - The property has a perfect location right in the middle of the historic center. It is easy and close to walk everywhere; lots of restaurants, cafés, nice souvenir shops. The room itself was very charming with a view to a small square where we had breakfast every morning.
The bathroom was a little tight with not enough space to keep toiletries and towels.
- Cornell (10/5): - What a great location! We stayed in a national treasure and it was ust lovely. We love walking aroung the immediate area where everything was basically in reach. Very cute room and amenities we required. The stairs with the luggage was a bit much, nut it's a dmall price to pay for a piece of mind and History.
- Kelly (8/5): - Lovely place in an amazing location but there were alot of basic amenities that this property failed on. Only had a small bin in the bathroom for rubbish and they did not even empty that bin when they serviced the room. I was only staying 2 nights and that was a big inconvenience.
Also the bar fridge in the room has a glass door with an internal light that stays on even when it's closed so i had to unplug the fridge at night as it lit up the whole room, which made keeping drinks cool impossible.
It also had a strong mildew smell.
Checkin could have been better- it's not easy to find, even though i had google maps. A guide with photo directions on how to get to the property sent to you before you're checkin date would have saved me alot of dragging my suitcase up stairs looking for the property. My accommodation in Dubrovnik did exactly that and it made it so so easy to find.
Good place but really could do better on some very basic things.
- Neil (8/5): - not accessible by car. Ridiculously difficult to find, way too many steps. four flights to room, two were circular.
this hotel has only three rooms . However the
Breakfast at adjoining hotel was fabulous. Location in old city was very central but you have to be very capable to walk and climb stairs.
- Linda (10/5): - This property was in a fabulous setting Lovely place to stay, central to everything ! breakfast was amazing so much choice we welcomed the beautiful sound of 4 men singing in the vestibule it was like having our own Il Divo whilst sitting having breakfast outside so romantic..
Breakfast was incredible so much choice as well as a 3 tier stand of fresh fruit croissants/meats fresh bread you could also orders eggs bacon salmon , overnight oats all in with the price no extra charges !
friendly and helpful staff.
Ivan collected us from the airport he
was the perfect gentleman extremely
Helpful carrying our luggage as there were quite a lot of stairs to climb , will definitely stay there again perfect! Thank you for everything Jeff & Linda Nottinghamshire
- David (6/5): - Great location right in the centre of the old town. Excellent breakfast at the hotel next door. This is not really a hotel room as such, more a serviced apartment in a great old building with lots of character.
Unfortunately the stay was spoiled by a strong smell from the drains in the bathroom - we stayed for two nights but we could not have put up with it for longer which is a shame as otherwise a great option.
- Krista (10/5): - You couldn’t ask for a better location to see the main historic sites in Split. Next to the main square and short walk to restaurants. The cathedral bell tower is next door so be prepared for a 6:00 and 7:00 wake-up, but that added to the charm for us. We will stay here again.
- Norm (10/5): - Great location, but hard to find. Fantastic breakfast. Couple minor issues: entrance to bathroom is raised an inch, resulting in a trip hazard, and towel warmer does not work.
- Andrew (10/5): - Beautiful room in the palace
- Mary H (10/5): - This property was right in the center of town but not really loud. It was comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed our stay there.
- Haydn (8/5): Great location, lovely room - Wonderful location and very cute room with lots of windows. The breakfast was great too. Shower temperature was a bit variable the only downside
- James (6/5): - I would give a 5 star but the owner neglects the details. Staff at hotel next door are great and helpful. The room itself was very clean and pleasent. Great location
Light bulbs out in room and underpowered. TV didn't work on arrival, no welcome drink as promised, had to pay in cash without knowing ahead of time. Mirror in bathroom sucks. It's slanted sideways on wall since there is a window over the sink Very hard if you wear contact lenses to see especially with light bulb out. Easy fix with mounting a swivel mirror instead. Shower is good except the tray hole is slanted so it won't hold soap or anything else. Overall a very nice place and I would have told the owner when he came to collect his money but he was in too much of a hurry.
- Michael (8/5): - The location was excellent but very difficult to find as the entrance is on the second floor. There was no lighting or signage on the ground floor to indicate its existence. Room was cool and nearby breakfast was enjoyable.
- Imogen (10/5): - We absolutely loved staying here- incredible location which is surprisingly quiet. The hotel next door is super helpful with bags and the room was very clean.
Thank you so much!
- Brittany (10/5): The perfect place in Split - Beautiful room right inside Diocletian’s place. The perfect place to stay in Split.
- Daniel (10/5): - Great location. Excellent breakfast! Friendly staff!
- Chandni (10/5): - It was frustrating to find the property. We would suggest calling the owner to pick you up. The overall location and room was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious. The only annoying part of the room was the sink which had slow drainage of water.
- Raquel (10/5): - The property is in a great location and was perfect and clean
- Owin (10/5): - Fantastic location right next to the Vestibule. Great breakfast at the adjoining hotel. Plan parking options ahead of time if traveling with a rental car.
- Leonardo De (6/5): - The place looks very nice. We love the stone walls and everything according to the city.
Staff was also very helpful. We were on the 3rd floor. The only downside was that the bathroom drain stunk of sewer very bad and it made the whole bedroom smell bad.
Fixing that and the place is great.
- Anita (10/5): - Great location, beautiful room, great bathroom. Place was spacious and breakfast is delicious. Ivan was very helpful and friendly!
- heather (10/5): - Perfect location
- Greg (10/5): - To be fair, this is a room within an ancient castle… so you can’t compare it to the Four Seasons. The ambience and preservation of the local culture create a mood that is five star. Do not attempt to search for the rooms though. Find the Vestibul hotel and inquire there. The owner is easy to contact.
- Kyle (10/5): - Great location in the middle of the city. Amazing breakfast. Very nice staff. Would stay here again.
- jeff (10/5): Secret place - Apartment is located in the middle of old town once located it’s a great place
Ivan was helpful explaining everything to us
- Damara (10/5): - Best location right by the rotunda inside Diocletians palace. The breakfast was incredible!
- judy (10/5): - Great room in side the Palace
- EMILY (10/5): Perfect room - The location is great, right in the middle of the palace. The breakfast is huge and delicious. The room is clean and comfortable and the bathroom is nice as well. I would definitely stay here again.
- John (10/5): - Breakfast was brilliant, as was the location. Our host was excellent, available and helpful when ever needed
- John (10/5): - Awesome place in hear of palace!
- Sarah (8/5): Very nice room but could do with some improvements - The room was lovely and the location was really central. It was very unusual and not like an average hotel room.
However, 2 of the lights didnt work. The owner said he would fix them but that did not happen. Therefore the room was quite dark, even with the windows open and the lights on.
The location is central to the old town, however, the down side of the location is that the church bells wake up you up very early in the morning.
The check in instructions were not clear, as we needed to go to the hotel next door, who called the owner to check us in. This should be made clearer when booking.
- Korina (10/5): Location location - Very unique place not your traditional hotel but if you are looking for the perfect location in Split then this is your place!
- jeannette d (10/5): Excellent Place to stay in Center of Split - We loved our stay here. East to find and walking distance to everything - port, trains/bus stations, all activities, restaurants and shopping. The room was spacious, had everything we needed and the added historical context was a huge bonus (we didn't find out until we did a walking tour that we were staying in what once were the upper apartments of Diocletian's Palace - built in 305 AD).
Everything was spotlessly clean, staff and breakfast excellent. Check-in and Check-out quick and easy. Highly recommend staying here and would return in a heartbeat when we return to Split.
- Shauna (10/5): - We had such a great stay here in Split. This is such a unique property being in the palace grounds. The room was clean, well-appointed and had some incredible views of the cathedral. Breakfast was also delicious! Would highly recommend!
- Shaundrea (10/5): - Amazing location - literally within the palace walls, close
to basement market and port. A nicely remodeled room within a beautiful historic stone house. Breakfast included from
Hotel next to us was great as well. Ivan was amazing letting us store our bags before checkin, getting us settled and arranging our airport transfer at the end. Can't say enough good things about this property and Ivan. Absolutely book here!
- Sara (10/5): - This location was great, right in the middle of everything. Very cute room, great breakfast. The only downside would be a lot of steps to get to the third floor. Ivan was a great host!
- Carla (6/5): - Valet parking advertised but NOT available. Specifically inquired about the valet availability knowing the property was within the palace and parking is limited.
Only enough hot water for one shower.
Unit is beautiful, but be prepared to climb stairs (A LOT of stairs) with your luggage.
Ivan was an absolute gem carrying my heavy bag as I was 1/2 way through a long work trip.
- Thomas (10/5): - The apartment is extremely nice and the location perfect. The host is quick to respond and very friendly.
- Reza (10/5): - We loved our stay at this hotel!
It’s in the heart of old split right above the main gates into the bazar. A day prior to arrival someone from the hotel sent us a message and h was our point of contact. Once we arrived, he met us next tot the car and helped us carry our two
Large suitcases up to our room. There were a few steps to take to get to the room, so if
You have difficulty carrying luggage you may want to reconsider. The room was cozy and clean. Everything worked perfectly. The breakfast was lovely and was included. Highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again!
- Danielle (10/5): - Amazing service, perfect location, and a very clean, comfortable and spacious room. Would highly recommend!
- Al (10/5): - We were right in the center of the old town of Split. The breakfast was great. Every thing was superb except for the shower, which was a big problem because it was so hot.
- Raspinder (10/5): Lovely place. Great host - Hotel was in a great location, not so easy to find. But as a recommendation it is next door to vestibul palace hotel. Ivan our host did find us searching about and took us to the room. He was very kind and accomodating and helped us find food spots and recommended places to see and how to see them. Decor was typical of old Venetian buildings. We loved it and would recommend if in split. Turns out Croatians aren't big on breakfast (not sure how true this actually is) but the breakfast which is served next door, doesnt offer a huge selection. Enough to get you by.
- Daniel (10/5): Quaint quiet and friendly! - Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Ivan picked us up at the airport and got us settled in to our room! The location is amazing! Clean and exactly what we wanted to enjoy a brief stay at split
Highly recommend
- MONICA (10/5): - The location is perfect, close to everything, the room itself is beautiful and made me feel I went back in time, Ivan was very accommodating and went above and beyond when I missed the bus and arrived very late.
- Mark (10/5): - Very friendly host, lovely apartment great location
- jeffrey (10/5): - Great location, very comfortable and clean, good value and the building is only 500 years old - the interior is contemporary meets 500 years old. Have already booked another stay!
- Sue (10/5): - Wow ! We were taken back by the location and the room . Set right in the centre of the old town , couldn’t have been better . Immaculate room and Ivan met us at the taxi drop off and escorted us the few minutes to our room, great friendly service
- Tiago (8/5): Old town split - Nice decoration in an old style building. Very good location right in the middle of the old town with the view over a cute little square. Good breakfast arranged with the hotel next door. Mr. Botic was very helpful organising free parking and helping us with dinner reservations. Overall pleasant stay and would recommend!
- gareth (10/5): Amazing location - Great service meeting Ivan at the property on check-in. The location is amazing, in the heart of the palace but unlike most other places it actually seemed fairly quiet overnight compared to most other places in the centre. Breakfast served in the hotel next door. Would highly recommend.
- Luisa (10/5): Amazing Location!!!! - What an incredible place to stay! Location is unbeatable, the room is nice, clean, and the AC, which is a necessity during the summer, works like a charm.
Ivan, the host, is very responsive, helpful, and super nice.
Place is hard to find, so make sure to make arrangements with Ivan to meet upon arrival in Split.
The room, the bulging, and the location were just enchanting!!!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Although there are a good amount of positives from this place to include the staff, location, AC, Wi-Fi, etc., my girlfriend and I unfortunately had a very unpleasant stay. During our stay here, I had a difficulty sleeping at night due to itching, for which I thought were coming from mosquitoes. I had minor bumps from my arms that got progressively worse. Upon returning to Germany, the bumps kept getting worse and worse to the point that I had to go to the hospital to get them checked. My girlfriend also started showing some symptoms a couple of days after our arrival back home. Upon inspection from the doctors, they diagnosed it as bed bug bites. To this day (7 days later), I am still getting eaten up in my room which obviously means that both my girlfriend and I brought some back with us. This is the first time I’m ever having to write a review and the first time I’m experiencing bed bugs and I would definitely not wish this on anyone. I have major itchy bumps all over both my arms and back.
- Amanda (10/5): - Our stay here was lovely. While it was a little hard to find, the host was amazing and met us, carried our luggage, parked our car and gave us a brief orientation to the hotel, the area and everything we needed to know.
- Amanda (10/5): Wonderful location and service - You cannot beat this location! Directly located in the heart of the old city. Ambiance of the rooms is authentic to the style and decor of the ancient city itself. Room is comfortable and the AC is good- which you’ll want in the summer heat.
We really appreciated the help with bags and valet parking.
The potential downfalls of this location are noise both from the upstairs and outside and cash payment.
- Youssef (10/5): Amazing location in the heart of Split - You can not get more central location than this place. The owner carefuly designed and upgraded the room elegantly and tastefully. The propert manager, Ivan, was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Modern room rather strange arrangement of reception at adjacent hotel which had no guests!
- Alan (10/5): - A spectacular historic building and location. Loved staying in a 1700 year old building. Yes, updated more recently than that.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great service in an exceptional location. Not as loud as some other locations in the Palace. The included breakfast was fantastic.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location of the apartment couldn’t be better, and the host is very helpful and responsive. Having breakfast at the Hotel Vestibul Palace next door was definitely a treat. However, some things could use improvement. For example, the water heater for the shower - every day we ran out of hot water for our showers. Not so fun taking cold showers on your honeymoon. Also, the main light was out, so the room was very dark. The place was also very hard to find, so I think the host should send a note to guests before arrival letting them know exactly how to get there from the ferry port.
- Anon (8/5): - A bit noisy but location was great. Shower head needs to be cleaned so it doesn’t spray everywhere
- Svitlana (10/5): Steps from the Palace, plus Royal treatment - The location could not be better - just steps from Diocletian Palace.Waking up every morning to "a capella" singers, who perform by the gates every day. Included breakfast is delicious with big variety to choose from and excellent service. And the property manager Ivan was fantastic! He met us if we were his own family, made us feel very welcome and his suggestions were valuable! We loved everything about this trip!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful room, great view, awesome location. Loved the room and the windows.
- Robert (10/5): Great place! - I loved the location and the service!
- Janet (10/5): Fantastic location - Lovely hotel in a fantastic location. Ivan met us from the airport, he was very helpful and gave us all the information we needed to enjoy our stay and also advised us on where to visit. The hotel is in one of the courtyards within the palace walls, breakfast was served in the Vestibule Hotel next door. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this accommodation.
- Hiro (6/5): - The place was difficult to find, and there was no front desk or full-time staff. Because I read in advance reviews from the past patrons that the breakfast was served at the Vestibule Palace, we went there to get help. They called the manager and we had to wait for over 15 minutes for him to arrive.
- Mario (10/5): - Very comfortable room with great views from lots of opening windows. Excellent central location. Would certainly recommend.
- Roman (10/5): Overall Fantastic! - Great property, beautiful rooms, central location. Not the easiest to find, but the hotel will give you detailed instructions if you call them before arriving. In the middle of the old town, inside the palace walls. Note that taxis cannot drop off immediately at the hotel, so you will need to walk about 3-4 minutes.
- steve (8/5): - great location needs a sign to help find it
all good
- Matt (10/5): - The location is absolutely perfect to see all the sites in Split. Property was very updated and clean.
- Natalie (10/5): Beautiful room and nice location - The pictures of the room were well represented and the location was superb. You could open the window and listen to the musicians. Close to all the action tight out your front door. Breakfast was excellent and served next door at a sisters hotel
- Karen (8/5): Unique experience staying within the palace - It was very charming to have the acapella singers singing right outside our room
- Verified traveler (8/5): - nice place, close to the beach, very convenient for visit. but felt a little cold in room in April.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and quiet on top of the action in Old Town - Spacious and very clean room. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location
- Josh (10/5): Perfect location - Nice room, comfortable bed, great location, nice shower, friendly staff, will definitely be back.
- Laura (8/5): Stylish apartment, good location - Lovely apartment, comfy big bed, good shower. We were greeted with flowers on arrival as it was our honeymoon and shown where breakfast would be, how to use the safe and given a number to call if we needed anything. It was a very warm welcome. We were there for 4 nights and our room was only cleaned once because the cleaner came around 9 - 10am and if we were still in the room they didn't come back later. It didn't bother us too much, maybe it would if we were stopping longer? The location of the apartment is great for exploring the old town and is remarkably quiet to say it was so close to very crowded areas. The breakfast was nice but service could be slow if you went later on towards the 10am cut off. I had to ask for bowls, cups and cutlery etc as they had ran out and not bothered to replace them. Overall though I enjoyed my stay and would come again.
- Kristyn (2/5): Broken glass and broken promises - This is the worst customer service I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I booked the Mare room for what I thought would be the highlight of our Croatia trip—I could not have been more wrong. The manger Ivan was more than 45 minutes late to meet us and once we made it to the room we discovered that there was shattered glass all over the tile floor (a discovery only made after my boyfriend had to pull glass out of his foot). We reported the broken glass and requested that it be thoroughly cleaned and returned a couple hours later. When we got back, there was still glass everywhere, including in the bed, so we called Ivan to see if we could switch rooms. He returned to the apartment to inspect and apologized for the inconvenience but told us there were no other rooms available. He assured us that if we could find alternative lodging on our own he would fully refund the room. We did not feel comfortable staying so we packed up our things and left less than two hours after checking in, hoping that we could find a less dangerous option elsewhere. Turns out you cannot take Ivan at his word. Ivan and the owner of Bella Notte refunded only 1/3 of the room and have been dodging our calls and giving us the run around for the last two weeks. We have spent countless hours on the phone with both them and hotels.com fighting for the refund we were promised. All in all, the location is great and the rooms are nice, but dealing with manager is simply not worth the headache.
- Kellie (10/5): Great location - Great location. Near to all sights and a little away from the main square so it's quieter. Breakfast is included.
- Linda (10/5): Amazing location - Loved the fact that this property was within the Diocletian Palace and not too many stairs to climb to room. Our host picked us up from Airport with small transfer fee and due to no parking in the Palace area assisted us with our bags. Then provided a full briefing of the features of our room. Loved the mixture of heritage and modern designs within. Breakfast was included and provided at the adjoining hotel which was within hearing of the Acapella singers within the Vestibule area.
