• Benjamin (4/5): - The hotel is conveniently located. The staff was helpful for arranging taxis, storing baggage. The breakfast was Cabo Verde average. The hotel and the room were not in a good shape though. The room is a dark hole, there is a fuse box humming loudly the whole night (so you have to turn the whole electricity off, including AC). The water takes about 10 minutes to warm up a bit. The pool is very dirty, small and uninviting, „fitness“ isn‘t even worth description. On top of that at the end they charge you extra for 2 tiny bottles of water, there is no openly visible price tag and the water was free in all our other Cabo Verde places. It‘s not about the money, it‘s about the attitude: trying to cheat and earn most money out of a worn down place. Sorry, no recommendation.

• hotshottequila (8/5): excellent breakfast and good value - I stayed at this hotel for 1 night en-route to Volcano Fogo in a nearby island. The hotel is a good 30-40 minutes walk from the plateau which is where all the activities in Praia take place but there are restaurants and also a small supermarket nearby. The room had good air conditioning and was clean. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a variety of options. Reception was helpful, they lent me a map of the city for my stay and helped me arrange a taxi to the airport.
• Lars (8/5): Ok stay - Spent three nights here. A little distance from Plato but short walking distance to the local beach with restaurants. Rented a car for a day and the fental company is just around the corner - very convenient. Internet was extremely slow in the room

• Verified traveler (8/5): - It was accessible to the airport and the town center. Its safe and convenient and eco friendly. The shower was great. But the top electric plug on the left side of the bed didnt work and the tv was chaneless... but overall if u need a quick stay, i recommend.
• Jeff (6/5): Need to fix booking if more than 2 people. - I selected 3 adults when I book this hotel. When we got there, they had a room with 1 double bed. We explained to them over and over that we need places for 3 adults. We asked if they could bring in an additional bed or give us a room with 2 beds. They charged us and additional $30 and took us up to a room that had 2 twin beds (space for 2 people to sleep). We explained again, as we were pointing to all 3 of us, that we need a place for 3 people to sleep. They said they would give us back our original room and bring in an extra bed (what we had asked for when we first found out that there was only 1 bed). We waited around for a while, then decided we needed to get dinner (it was already late). We left our room and found a bed by the elevator. After dinner we went back to the hotel and the bed was outside our room. I put it in our room and a while later someone showed up and they weren't happy that I put the bed in our room, they wanted to do it. In the end it worked out, but double, or triple, check if you plan on sleeping more than 2 people in a room.

L’hôtel n’était pas très occupé donc très calme et silencieux. Petit déjeuner correct et un dîner avant le départ le jour du Nouvel An où ils ont fait au mieux pour répondre à notre attente. Chambres simples mais fonctionnelles, roof top avec petite piscine sympathique pour s’y retrouver et boire un rafraîchissement. Bonne expérience tout à fait satisfaisante. Merci

• Getaway368620 (8/5): Very good and safe place to stay - The hotel is well managed, employees are friendly, courteous and helpful, and breakfast is included. The rooms are clean and functional, towels changed daily, and the a/c works very well. The ocean is visible from the 4th floor and above. There's always someone at the reception and if you leave the hotel after dark a guard watches you until you get a taxi. Location is near almost everything you'll need. There's always taxis nearby, generally less than a minute wait.

This hotel is in the middle of the city, where it may be less safe for tourists, but the city has guards on every corner to keep us safe. It is close to Quebra Canela Beach and many shops.
• Jakob10033 (10/5): Good experience, clean and functional amenities and friendly, helpful staff - Very well managed hotel in a safe residential neighborhood, with friendly and helpful staff. As a single traveler I had a clean, functional room (no view). There is a really lovely roof terrasse with a surprisingly enjoyable pool and a few lawn chairs to relax or sunbathe. A variety of restaurants are in immediate walking distance from the hotel, and the fun city beach Quebra Canela is less than 15 minutes walk or a quick 3 minute cab ride away. Hotel Santiago is very recommendable!

• Verified traveler (6/5): Great location, wifi - not so much. - Security great, location is great. Hotel manager, no where to be found when there's an issue. Wifi is bad, and hotel staff is aware of it - hasn't fixed it satisfactorily. Avoid the restaurant waiter with booze on his breath - they'll mess up your dinner order. Hotel knew about him too.

• CVTraveler (10/5): - My Ferry from Fogo Island to Santiago Island was cancelled the day I was supposed to travel so I showed up at the hotel a day late and as I did not have any internet connection to communicate with the hotel from Brava Island. They were kind enough to allow me to check in for a few hours when I showed up a day late so that I could get a shower & have a little rest before my flight out that night. I give them 5 stars for this but I also note that this was not high season.& I am grateful for them accommodating me!

En dat pakte bij dit hotel helemaal goed uit! Super vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel, alles prima te voet te doen (en verder reden en volop taxi's) en een veilige buurt.
• Ram (10/5): Een ontzettend leuk hotel, midden in Praiia. - Ons eerste ervaring met Santiago, Praiia. Eerste nacht nogal rumoerig. Bij het iindienen van deze klacht, Werd er gelijk actie ondernomen door het hotel personeel. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk, beleefd en behulpsaam. In de avond kun je heerlijk zitten met een drankje op het prachtige dakterras, waar je een prachtige uitzicht hebt over Praiia.

Actually we should stay in appartementos Santiago, but there was something wrong (a bit vague) so for the same price we could stay in the hotel. Breakfast was simple and with a lot of sweetness (great if you love that, not so great if you don't). Nice bathroom with lovely hot water shower.

• jorge_pereira2001 (6/5): ok - This was my first time at hotel Santiago, and because this was a work trip, my first requirement with the hotel is about the rest I can get at the end of the day. The room I was given was at the first floor, near the elevator...Although I was said it would be a quiet room, this was not true....as I found at the first night. Resuming you get a lot of noise from the street, but worst of all, from the guests at the waiting room/reception at floor 0. Breakfast is good, the bar at the top offers a good perspective of the area and is very pleasant, the staff is very friendly. Wish I could give a better overall rating...
• gsl1227 (8/5): Good location - We stayed in two different rooms on our 12 day visit, the rooms where clean, the bathrooms are a little small as well as the elevator, but overall the staff is friendly especially Jocelyn, they have a nice size balcony with a nice view of the sunset. The breakfast was good with array of choices.
• 423jirip (6/5): Affordable hotel in residencial area of Praia - The hotel offers reasonable accommodation for a fair price. The staff is friendly. Buffet breakfast was very good, offering a selection of local specialities. The rooms are of average size, bathrooms small. The hotel is located in a residential areas, about 2 km from Plateau, which is the centre of Praia.
• evhunt (8/5): Helpful staff - Clean room. Helpful staff, especially Claudio and Jocelyn. Good breakfast with off buffet ordering available. Dinners were ample and good. Gin and tonics cannot be beat. Accommodated all our requests, except for stocking minibar. Wifi was OK. Located in a less than beautiful neighborhood, but easy walk to beach area if wanted. Probably best for business. Felt safe walking in neighborhood during day.
• novreis (6/5): Could be better reviewed if staff more efficient - It is a good hotel, with rooms large enough and very clean. Free wifi was ok but complicated to use when you have more than one device. Breakfast was ok for me, but it cannot be compared with Hotels in Europe with similar stars. Joceline that works here is very nice with customers. My only complaints were the lack of efficiency of balcony staff! They were nice but did not solve the problems at once, except when I asked to change the room because it was noisy! At the second room I reported an electric noise that needed maintenance and only after few days someone was there to repair it. Overall is a good Hotel in Cabo Verde
• pirranD (8/5): Good business hotel but a few gripes.... - For the money the Santiago is good value and overall I would recommend it if you're on business in Praia - but it's not really a hotel for those on holiday. The rooms are newly furbished, comfortable, and the cleaning is good. The staff are excellent - very friendly, helpful and multilingual. The breakfast is a bit of a let down and rather monotonous, but you're in luck if you like cake for breakfast, as instead of having pastries such as croissants, they always have at least 2 sponge cakes (I can't comment on their quality as I didn't try them!). Apart from the lacklustre breakfast, my other two gripes are that the internet, whilst free, is a bit unreliable and slow, and the water in the bathroom is often not hot, or comes out as a trickle rather than a shower. In 3 weeks in the hotel I probably had 5 hot, proper showers - the rest were either cold, tepid, or trickles. Unless you're in a front room, the rooms are a bit dark, with no view, as they face a wall. As other have said, there's a few nice restaurants nearby.
• peterquint (8/5): A good place to stay. - Spend 13 nights in this hotel. The breakfast buffet is very much okay. Clean hotel, free wifi, parkingspot in front of the hotel with cameraprotection, very kind and helpful staff. The building is new, has an elevator, airconditioning in every room + flatscreen, fridge, watercoocker and telephone. Good restaurants are nearby; walkingdistance is max. 5 minutes. And the pricing is okay as well. A place to recommend.
• RamuneT (6/5): 2.5 star hotel (the booking.com lists it as 3 star, the hotel makes statements it is a 4 star hotel :)) - Very friendly and helpful staff, especially in the restaurant, nice lobby, well functioning free wifi. But if you get a room next to elevator, it is tiny and the noise will not allow you to sleep all night long. Some other rooms had a sewerage smell, we also found dead cockroach in the shower. Also when paying with euros we were not applied the official currency exchange rate, which resulted in increased prices.
• ramm631 (8/5): Much Longer Stay - Much Better - Literally felt at home . Was on a Business trip for FIC 2014 and after my last experience, naturally decided to stay here. And must say that the staff at Hotel Santiago really do stand out. Fred at the bar is becoming famous with his Gin n Tonics and Joseline and her friends/( I say friends because thats the ambience thats there) .. Over the last 8 days , Santiago felt like home. The Small irritants are the management of the internet services, which require frequent logging on as you move around, but that apart, we were looked after really well. They could improve quality of toilet amenities, but I found this Hotel far superior to the 3 Star rating.
• ramm631 (8/5): Pleasantly Surprised - Were put in here by the airline due to a cancelled flight. Were a bunch of irritated angry weary and hungry travellers, and found the single girl at reception full of energy and politeness. The rooms were clean . The restaurant service person stands out as she too was well trained in etiquette and was eager to add cheer to her service. The Bar though not always with a barman, was amazing. The Gin n Tonics were made with great detail, and again service was excellent. Theres a nice roof top sit out, though not attended always. Very good for a three star hotel. The personnel made up for the location .. Its not in a touristic area. We didnt seem to have any problems. Were heading back for an overnight transit and intend staying here.

Its is 100% energy efficient and also runs on 25% renewable energy mix of the country which is impressive for eco-friendly enthusiasts, it is your typical hotel and beautiful too in design. internet is limited to few Mb per day which i did not find interesting. my hot water did not work the first night though and i had to make complain. but for the amount i am paying, i think its still fair enough. and it was quite close to where is had to have my meetings done.

While checking out, i also discovered that they increased my daily rate without any previous notice. No one from the hotel management team even answered my called
