Guest Reviews
- sandra (8/5): - Beautiful building/rooms and very attentive (and busy!) staff. Off season there isn’t anything else in town.
- Jacqueline (2/5): - We tried to check in to this property and no one was there. We waited 20 minutes for him to arrive. He was very friendly and pleasant. But no lights were turned on making this a dark and cold feeling 'welcoming' experience. We were shown our way to our room up the dark staircase (again, no lights). It was outdated (I realize this is an old hotel...this was outdated in a tired way). The place smelled stale. We decided not to stay here despite having booked two nights there. We had not even brought our luggage in. We had not spent more than 2 min in the room. John had already left the property thereby not allowing us to talk about cancelling directly. We were the only ones in the building. It felt isolated and remote.
We called and spoke with him and he understood. We talked with them again the next day asking if we could get any refund on our two night stay. They said they would talk and see what they thought was fair. We did not get any refund so I guess they thought zero was fair. We understand given that we booked through Expedia and were beyond the cancellation timeframe. But we paid for 2 nights in a place we were in for 10 minutes.
Regarding the area, be aware that this area/town is very remote. And quiet except for the noisy bugs (cicadas?).
We travel globally. The fact that we wouldn't spend a night here even though we prepaid says a lot. That being said, I believe the owners to be friendly people.
- Ailsa (10/5): - Beautifully renovated and maintained property. Very high quality bedding and furniture. Nice to stay in an authentic 1837 manor.
- Linda (10/5): - Quaint.
- Robert (8/5): - Quite a work out taking luggage up 2 flights but the room was spacious. The TV was pretty old but we didn’t use it. Some of the carpets were stained but overall the place was clean and quaint. Breakfast was good. Night time dining options were very limited
- Doug (8/5): Very nice room with nice staff. No A/C. - Very nice old Victorian room. Large room with couch. Huge washroom. Old but functional TV. No A/C.
Nice area.
- KERRY (10/5): - Too bad that 5 stars is the maximum! This property is so welcoming as are the hosts. Our room was beautifully appointed, comfortable, and spacious. The option to open the windows provided fresh air and easy sleeping. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Anna, who we soon learned is also the chef. No need to seek a restaurant in the area since the manor's dining room featured delicious dinners and convenience for breakfast. We stayed for two nights and were sad to leave such a splendid place.
- Mark (8/5): - great romantic getaway
- Jean (10/5): - They make you feel at home. Friendly courteous staff. Donner was awesome
Thanks for making our stay enjoyable!
- Martine (6/5): - Beaucoup de tapis.
Matelas à changer.
Petit déjeuner limité.
- JAMES (10/5): - Lovely room, dinner and drinks. Very quiet. gave us a taste of the real Nova Scotia!
- Paul (10/5): - Bonnie provided a delightful welcome, facilities orientation, and dining experience.
- Mary (10/5): - Lovely well-maintained older inn. Exceptional staff for the welcome, breakfast and checkout. Great ease and flexibility for attending the Stan Rogers Festival. I will be back!
- Claire (8/5): - We stayed here a night since we were attending the Canso Stanfest, so it was the best option for us in terms of location! Good bed, basic continental breakfast.
- Willa (10/5): - Immaculate, stunning, great service. Would definitely return.
- Paul (8/5): - Not many options for dining in the area, it appears that Covid shut down a lot of businesses in the more rural areas of NS
- Adler Nevo (10/5): - Lovely! A luxurious treat!
- Neil (10/5): - Beautiful property, great food and great hosts
- James (10/5): - Amazing Staff. Lovely historic building. Lovely stay.
- Robert (10/5): - The room was very nice and the service excellent. Air conditioning, even temporary, would have made the visit even more enjoyable during the recent heat wave.
- Michèle (8/5): Beautiful historic Manor in need of upgrading - The staff made us feel like we were guests in their own home. This historic building was beautiful in the details of another era, truly breathtaking.
The biggest downfall is the lack of air conditioning in the guest rooms. This put a damper on our stay, but everything else was a great experience.
- Diane (10/5): - I liked the large, well appointed rooms and the really comfortable beds. The landscaping was attractive.
- Jean-Yves (10/5): - Great place
- Phyllis (10/5): - Wonderful food, warm and accommodating staff.
- Dwayne (2/5): - We could not check in there was no one there, tried contacting them from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, no one answered phone or text messages. Not sure if I’ll get my money refunded still waiting to see.
- Michael (6/5): - Historic House with antique furniture and artwork was really nice. Whole house smelled like it needed a thorough cleaning. Some missing fixtures in our room. Some boards on the deck looked like they were rotting and needed replacement.
- Steve (10/5): - Room was very nice. Dinner and service - 5 star
- Shaun (10/5): Owner, Professional Engineer - Very clean, comfortable room, good WIFI, food was delicious. Shower could use an upgrade. Staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. I would stay here again.
- Linda (10/5): Relaxing week end in Guysborough - We stayed two nights and had a lovely dinner there on our first evening. Breakfast was included and provided a choice of cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. and also offered bacon, eggs and toast. Staff was pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed the gazebo / patio where we could enjoy a glass of wine after dinner (or anytime). We particularly enjoyed our room was very large and perfectly decorated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful old hotel, excellent staff. Food was fantastic. Building does need some upkeep in the roof and upper floors and some of the carpets. As others have noted there is no coffee in the rooms and no elevator so be prepared to carry your bags up the stairs. Love the ambience, staff and rooms. Will definitely stay there again.
- John (10/5): - Great location and a great room. Staff very friendly and the meal in the dining room was excellent.
- Paul (8/5): - Large bedroom with sitting area. Access to whole house and huge deck and garden
- Rodney (6/5): Not so happy - The people staffing the Inn were fantastic and very responsive to our needs. We ate dinner at the Inn and both the meal and the service were terrific. On the other hand, we felt that, for the price we paid for a room, the facility fell short in a number of ways:
1. The ad for the Inn boasted free WIFI. There was, but only on the main floor. We could not access the Internet in our room.
2. The room was not equipped with a coffee maker
3. The room was not equipped with a refrigerator
4. The door to our room squeaked very loudly when opened or closed and had to be forced closed and open because it jambed in the doorframe.
We have the feeling that the owner(s) are cutting costs while keeping prices high, all at the detriment to the customer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - well appointed property-staff were excellent particularly bonnie-room was exceptional
- Pamela (10/5): - This was a beautiful Inn!! The Staff was super welcoming and helpful! The food was spectacular!!!!!! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!
- STEVEN (8/5): Charming Inn - Charming Inn with great opportunity for conversation and interaction with other guests and owners. Food and drink in dining room was good - home cooked meal. Staff is exceptionally helpful and accommodating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very accomadating and friendly staff. The supper and breakfast we had there were very good.
The lack of air conditioning during a heat wave was noticeable, so impacted the quality of sleep during an otherwise enjoyable stay.
- Patrick (10/5): Like Home - This was a stop on the way to the Cabot Trail. It is a spacious, well-appointed country house with a warm welcome. You do not have to go out to dinner, because Anna serves a delicious choice and there is also a bar. Breakfast of bacon, eggs, and toast from 8:00 – 10:00 gets you on your way again, or you can stay a while longer. The bed is comfortable, but bedside lamps are too dim to read by, so bring your own light. Water pressure in the shower is weak, but the tub is deep by American standards. WiFi/Internet is weak & slow. There are beautiful antique prints, birds and botanicals, on the walls.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Lovely old inn - Lovely old inn. Price is high, but good value.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Actually beautiful, well-maintained, friendly staff, huge rooms with truly beautiful period furniture. The only downside was the need for air conditioning in the unusually hot weather, and I guess, to be picky, the lack of coffee in the rooms because breakfast isn't until 8 a.m.
- Brent (6/5): - Very much like what were looking for - An old Inn. Staff was great and while the room was pleasant, no air conditioning (+29C when we were there), no fridge or coffee maker. Breakfast was included.
We checked out a day early as little to do in Guysborough. Our fault for not checking further prior to booking. Inn was nice enough not to charge us for 2nd night booking when we left.
- Kathy (10/5): - Lovely inn. Large, comfortable room, great breakfast and dinner and hospitable staff.
- Karen (10/5): - Outstanding, everything was exceptional
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A great place to relax and explore the local history.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Wonderful place to stay. Food was awesome! I would come again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place to stay. Charming old home and great food. Not much going in the town of Guysborough though during our stay, which was May 29 th
- Thomas (10/5): Awesome service, great sleep 👍 - Would highly recommend this Inn. Very comfortable room. The food was excellent and the 2 ladies who cooked and served us went out of their way to cater to my wife’s dietary restrictions. They made everything about our stay top notch 👍
- Heather (8/5): Lovely Historic B and B - Loved our stay at the manor! Easy check in, friendly, welcoming staff. Lovely room, however three massive staircases... prepare to get your exercise if you are on third floor. Dinner is available upon request, a lovely breakfast is included. On site bar in parlour if staff are present. A few games are also available in the parlour. Huge outdoor deck and yard and located in a lovely scenic town. Wished we could have stayed longer!
- Ann (10/5): Stylish place - We enjoyed our one night stay and found everything very comfortable. I have taken one star off 'facilities' as in room tea and coffee making would have been appreciated.
- robert (10/5): A lovely oasis. - We loved each everything about our stay. Our room was the size of a suite, with comfortable sofa, chairs, lots of space, fabulous furnishings . I must mention as well the luxurious linens both on the bed and in the bathroom. Well appointed with lots of room downstairs in the common areas to curl up,with a book, play a game, use the computer.
- Jamie (10/5): Quiet stay with great staff - A pleasant stay start to finish. Bonnie and Judy were excellent hosts. Food was excellent. Would definitely stay again.
- Gwen & Howard (10/5): We just needed a little get-away - We just needed a little get-away in the middle of our week. The drive up the coast to Canso was a beautiful alternative to continuing on highway #7. The Williams room was lovely and comfortable. We enjoyed an evening exploring the town of Guysborough. The evening meal, that night at the inn, and breakfast the next day were A1. We will definitely be back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Sehr schönes Hotel in ruhiger Lage.
- John (10/5): Gem in Guysburough - Wonderful historic Manor house. Great hosts and onsite restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Not ideal for those with mobility issues as no elevator.
