- FlitWing (8/5): Close to town - Really nice staff - the bed was comfortable and the fridge was quiet. Nice fire pit area allows guests to relax. The room had an issue with the fireplace which staff fixed but the fix didn’t take, windows didn’t open, have to be okay with noise upstairs and in the courtyard.

I loved the location of our room, which faced the back of the property. We had privacy, a big porches that faced the fire pit and the gravel parking lot. Our shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and was a mess. The ceiling fan only had one speed and my son needed it on even tho it was 20 degrees outside. We thought we’d have a record player according to the description of the room and pics. The bed was okay, but could have been more comfortable. I needed a down pillow and they had none.

- Wyndon (7/5): Needs improvement but delivers on some levels. - The Inn is the definition of "shabby rustic chic". Rooms are comfortable and clean. Bed very comfortable and the fireplace a welcome touch on the chilly pre-season nights we were there. Lounge area was "funky hippie" with a"kumbaya" vibe for the most part. Young women who staffed the desk were lovely and accommodating. One even made our little fire in the outside chiminea fire tower near our room. They provided a mini "some mores" kit which was a nice touch. Adjacent and within walking distance from town. ONE person really ruined the vibe. We were sipping some left over wine (around 3:30-4PM)from our room that we brought from the night before's dinner. We had taken our books to this space for 2 days prior with our wine from our room prior to when they were allowed to serve at 5PM. The young staffers didn't object and actually provided us with glasses, but a new staffer (middle aged woman) on our last day of stay came over to us in the lounge/cafe and told us she needed to charge us a "corkage" charge if we continued to sip our own wine. We told her, we assumed not a problem, as we had done so before and were guests of the inn..she was unrelenting and said "buy wine and there is no corkage". Really? Is this a table at Jean Georges in NYC? Did she understand corkage, typically when the waiter uncorks your wine and serves? Ridiculous. We left our comfortable seats in the lounge and went back to our room. Upsetting and frankly she should be instructed on how to host...particularly in "off season" when a few folks were even there and their rates are overpriced at $350 plus per nite. Charming just goes so far. Frankly, the property needs some serious TLC and is showing wear. It gives meaning to the "shabby" in some instances to "Shabby Rustic Chic". The "cute" typewriters in the rooms have dried out ribbons and no paper and the record players screech out whatever they can from the warped, scratched old records provided. Why bother with these appointments if they are intended as props. Make them work...that has charm. The quilt on our couch was ripped and frayed. There were no hangers in the room (which were speedily provided by the young staffer), and the soap dispenser in the bathroom was clogged and nearly empty. Improvements are needed to make this a great experience with those prices or at any price.

- Eileen (9/5): Overall I loved the vibe of the whole place. The few things that weren't great, are easily fixable. - The entire place was absolutely beautiful. The decor was cozy & upscale-cabin/woodland. The staff was very very kind & attentive. The parking was great. Entry was easy. I truly loved it so much despite the few mishaps in the second part of my review!! Personally I would recommend it again & stay there again, myself. The room was very cold upon arrival- the heater wasn't working as well as it should have been, but I had asked for a space heater which they provided & that solved the issue. The worst of it was that the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor. It was soaked. We used our dirty clothes to try to absorb it & stand on, but that wasn't enough. It was also a beautiful tile that was ice cold. Not pleasant to walk on when it's wet when you need to use the restroom in the middle of the night! The bed was a dense mattress- I didn't mind it at all, but my partner hated it & said his back hurt when he awoke. Beds & pillows are very personal & you'll never please everyone with them! But the shower should absolutely be fixed for many reasons.

Mountain laurel blooming on every terrace of the property with cafe lights, cozy campfires, s’mores kit, deer head above the bed, beautiful bathroom tile, fabulous coffee and wine. We just need a few little things like a real trash can with a plastic liner and a more comfortable chair to sit in. And there was so much rustling our last night there has to have been a mouse. The side tables at the bed were adorable but they had sloped tops and our drink slipped off and my earrings kept falling on the floor. So well thought out decor-wise it’s the little things that made it for us but the little things that we didn’t like also.

- Laura (10/5): A Cozy Mountain Retreat That Exceeded Our Expectations - Our experience exceeded all expectations. The location is absolutely wonderful — very close to the town center, yet far enough to truly enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains and the forest. The room was spotless, smelled amazing, and felt extremely cozy and welcoming. The reception and lobby area were like something out of a storybook, with the warmth of a wood-burning stove. We especially loved enjoying a great cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening before bed — the perfect setting for a peaceful and restful night. We will definitely return and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for comfort, atmosphere, and a truly relaxing stay. Nothing — everything was perfect.👌

We loved the little wine bar and coffee bar in front. The music was laid back (Al Green) and many people were just dropping by for a coffee or glass of wine by the fire. If you turn the inside door lock a certain way, your room will NOT lock from the outside and your room will be open. It’s a keypad entry. Bathroom barely had privacy .Didn’t like the location in room 107, but it was a nice room!!

- STEPHANIE (9/5): Wonderful One Night Stay In Highlands. - The entire property was a welcoming and great vibe. The bed was super comfortable. Rooms were cleaned cozy. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I heard the people in the room above me walking around late at night. Not a deal breaker because I sleep with earplugs, but just something I noticed, and if you are a light sleeper you might want to request an upper room.

We much preferred the former staff (Brian, his wife, daughter, and dog!) who were much more to our style of laid back, country, and gave us such a warm and homey feel. The nrw style is more upscale with a wine bar and upscale/pricy snacks which doesn't fit with the rustic ambiance of the establishment. There are also areas that need attention in the outside areas that are not being addtrssed (holes in the wood plank stairs as one example).

Our room was darling, well appointed with a little sitting area, fireplace and record player including some throw back records that put us in the mood. Bed/bedding was great, good shower pressure and products. Each afternoon we would hang out in the common spaces and firepits and enjoy a glass of wine, 'smores and meeting other travelers. The hotel is very close to town, you can walk. They also have bikes to take around. I highly recommend this hotel for a stay in the Highlands!!

- Christine (10/5): A lovely rustic, yet modern home away from home! - The Outpost Inn was an exceptional, unexpected, and healing experience for me. I headed there on a whim from the Charlotte area to mend a broken heart. I had never been to the area and picked the Inn because of the outdoor fire pit, honestly! The experience was so much more than that. It was just what I needed. The hostess upon arrival, a lovely young woman who greeted me and made me feel welcome and right at home. The decor of the main living room/bar/check-in area was so tastefully done, warm, and welcoming. It's a place I could envision living. I did not want to leave! I met some very kind women at the bar for some great bonding time. Again, just what I needed, and I hope to return soon! Adding a light breakfast would have been a nice addition.

Staff, other guests and the general atmosphere of the place were welcoming and friendly. Definitely would recommend and book again! Wish the fridge had a freezer and ice maker. Would like to add video; only have the one relevant photo.

The remodeling done over the past couple years looks great, the rooms have a great feel, the whole property has a relaxed vibe, the staff is casual and friendly, and there are many places inside and out to lounge and relax. Many little touches, both decorative and provided, make it feel home-y in the mountains. Walkable to town, though it's more likely you'd take the short drive. The king bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom well appointed. And the price was very fair. Unquestionably, we would return here when in Highlands.

We loved the communal atmosphere and had some great conversations with other folks staying there on the common room. The bed was comfy and the room was awesome. We loved that it was a little off the main drag, but close enough to walk. I’m definitely going to recommend to others. Thanks y’all!

- Colleen (10/5): - I stayed here a few years back when it was the Wells Hotel. I liked it then and I really like it now. The owners have done a refresh and the decor is fun and interesting. We stayed in #5 (a studio) and found it to be very comfortable and welcoming; the AC worked great and the bathroom was updated and very nice. Enjoyed playing some tunes on the record player. We walked to Sunset Rock and had dinner at Ristorante Paoletti. A very nice Highlands experience. It is a busy time of year so you will hear some road noise but it did not bother us. Highly recommend the Outpost!

- Miller (10/5): Wonderful, walkable and welcoming - This is a beautiful, rustic property that is decorated in 1960’s vintage folk and Appalachia style. The owners go the extra mile to make guests feel a warm welcome by turning the lights on in the room, proving a s’mores kit, free and a paid coffee bar, banana bread and a wood burning stove in the lobby. The bed was comfortable. The soaps and shampoos were natural and scented with essential oils. There was a coffee bar and fridge in room with available snacks for purchase. It is within walking distance to the downtown shops and restaurants. It is important to note that there are sidewalks and pedestrian crossings from the property to the town! Sometimes a property can be close to town and “walking distance” but really be unwalkable due to the lack of sidewalks and the journey being on the shoulders of dangerously curvy mountain roads. It was a little hard to find places to put stuff due to all of the decorations. The bathroom did not have any countertops. There is very low lighting in the room. The AC light shined in my eyes all night. However, besides the AC light all of the other dislikes are more like individual preferences. My husband loved the low lighting.

- Kelsey (10/5): The perfect mountain getaway - We had the best stay at the Outpost Inn. This family owned Inn was so cozy. The attention to detail was incredible. We loved the onsite coffee and wine bar. We will definitely be back! Couldn’t recommend more.
- Amy (10/5): - A friend and I stayed at the Outpost for a night when in town for a music event. We couldn't have been happier with the vibe of the entire place, the cleanliness, staff, offerings, convenience, and overall comfort level. The rooms are stylishly decorated with an eclectic assortment of cool decorative and functional items ranging from native american culture to modern art to music. The lobby is one of the neatest things about the Outpost Inn. When we walked in there the morning after our stay, we could not believe the vibe. It's just the coolest space to hang out with vinyl, a cone fireplace burning and space to chill. Not to mention a coffee bar where you can get all kinds of drinks. As guests, we received a free drip coffee and banana bread. It was SO cozy and had such a great vibe, we didn't want to leave. We will surely be returning over the summer! Thanks for a wonderful and comfy getaway spot!

Very comfortable beds with a fireplace to warm it up when needed. I would like to highlight the great service received from all personnel, always very kind and supportive with all requests we had. Price was a little bit high considering that breakfast was not included. You could order a coffee and some breakfast there separately, but the standar coffee was over 7 us dollars.

- Candace (10/5): We enjoyed this Inn! - We stayed in The Grand, room 13. The room was perfect for us. The shower was amazing! The room was immaculate and easily accessible from the parking area. It has a fire pit outside, which we enjoyed on our first night. There is a coffee/wine bar in the lobby. The lobby is decorated so nice! The location was perfect for shopping and eating downtown.

- David (10/5): - The room accommodations were new and very clean. The overall facility was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Hard to describe the place but I really enjoyed staying there and relaxing. I will definitely stay again. The location is a couple blocks from downtown, easy drive, or bikes were available.
