Guest Reviews
- Neil (9/5): Great stay, really enjoyed our stay at the Chateau - Great location
Peaceful WiFi
- Caroline (1/5): Description is very misleading and disappointing - Location. More accurate photos &description are definitely needed to avoid disappointment. The location of the cottage in the chateau grounds is lovely, but the issues I mention below did mar our stay.
We booked the cottage at Chateau de la Menaudiere as a perfect mix of an independent, self-catering cottage in the grounds of a hotel. The description & photos give the impression that it is a ‘regular’ hotel with the facilities that go with it.
However, the ‘hotel’ is now solely a wedding venue so is not open except for weddings!
The Booking.com details clearly state ” From April to October, Château de la Menaudière serves a daily continental breakfast with regional produce and there is also a bar where guests can enjoy wine-tasting.” Also “… offers an outdoor, seasonal pool, free parking and free WiFi access.”
However, there is NO wifi. Plus very poor mobile phone signal, due to the rural setting. There is NO router in the cottage. .
The proprietor said the problem must be with our devices as no guests had experienced any problem connecting to the chateau wifi (50m away) before. We were given the password to her personal router next door to the cottage, but we could not connect to that either. We were obliged to visit cafes and restaurants in order to deal with various issues & had absolutely no problem connecting to the wifi anywhere else. On further digging into reviews, other guests HAD stated there was no wifi. The “free toiletries” advertised on the site consisted of a mini piece of soap.
The bathroom & kitchen were new and clean but my low score was due to the bedroom carpet – photo attached – which was filthy & stained. No barefoot wandering to the bathroom!
The proprietor & family live & park next door. They were discreet & respectful, but the wonderful large windows were not conducive to comfortably slouching on the sofa or wandering around in your pyjamas.

- Maxime (1/5): Déception. Publicité mensongère. Grenier. Description du lieu trompeuse et mensongère.
- Audrey (9/5): Superb - Charlene was very welcoming and guided us with lovely typical restaurant . The cottage are well appointed and bed comfortable. We will come back :)
- Sue (10/5): Beautiful tower, lovely views great room. - It was beautiful, unique building, beamed ceiling, comfy bed and fantastic views. Nothing, it was lovely . No meals available but not far into the village .
- Hajo (10/5): Exceptional - It was perfect. The pool Awsome. And the location unbeatable
- Malcolm (8/5): Great location and private self contained accommodation in Chateau grounds. - The location of the Gite near Montrichard is great, but we chose to eat in Amboise which is a lovely location and about 8 miles from the property on a straight road. The property itself has a fully equiped kitchen and bathroom so feels like your own house, as totally self contained so very private. Its overall proximity in a chateaus grounds is also very private and secure. The host was very friendly and professional which is a huge bonus. Loads of hot water for a bath! Very clean property with all you really need for a private stay. Parking right outside and very secure. Very minor things. No wall heater in the main bedroom and it was a cold night. No info in WiFi which is becoming essential. Usefully could do with a shower properly wall mounted rather than just resting on the bath tap. Decoration is good but a bit basic for my taste an a rug in the reception would make it more cosy. No historical link to the location as renovated ie all very modern. An info pack on the key contacts/history of the Chateau would be a bonus.
- Helen (10/5): A very pleasant and peaceful night in a beautiful tranquil place. - Welcoming and clean in beautiful surroundings and host was lovley. There wasn’t anything
- Morgan (9/5): Superb - Great location. Super friendly host. Set in beautiful grounds. Cosy and warm. Very pet friendly. We wish we could've stayed longer.
- Nguyen (4/5): Beautiful grounds; cottage needs airing and better equipped but otherwise decent. - We stayed one night in the cottage. Soap and tissues and hand towels in bathroom would have been nice. Mattress was thin and firm but ok. The place smelled musty and needed to be aired. The kitchen is missing a few items like cutting board but otherwise nice with fridge, oven, microwave, tea kettle and utensils. There is a pond and the grounds were bucolic and beautiful. See above
- Narjiss (8/5): Very good -
- Yudelkys (8/5): We liked it.. the host was supportive and charming - The surroundings were breath taking We found little cockroach’s and the curtain didn’t close completely so the privacy in the bedroom is not that great
- Jan (5/5): Based on the images on the Booking.com I expected better facilities. - Nice historic location in château.
Clean rooms.
Committed receptionist. Broken TV.
Not functional Wi-Fi.
No refrigerator.
No cable TV.
No elevator for people with restricted mobility.
Reluctance to change the reservation when leaving one day earlier.
- Victor (9/5): Superb -
- OnAir705157 (10/5): wonderful stay - Karen couldnt do enough for us..she made sure the heat was on way before we got to our room..there was a generous portion of breakfast goodies.,.karen knows the area very well and made wonderful suggestions on restaurants and attractions..will definitly return to this chateau...
- Jet580259 (8/5): Perfect over night stay - Deep in the countryside surrounded by forests and fields
lies the Chateau.
Recently renovated to a very high standard and spotlessly clean.
We had a great welcome from the amazing Karine who
does everything. Nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was delicious.
No restaurant, but the small town of Montrichard is only 2k
away on the river with several restaurants.
Would we return? Yes.
Janet Timoni Napier
- abcolsz (10/5): A wonderful, though too short, stay! - Spent one night on March 7 at la menaudiere but wish it had been a longer stay! The place is wonderful, the welcoming, warm and personalized. Everything was perfect and i'll know where to stay on my next visit in the area!
Thanks to all at the château!
