Guest Reviews
- Z9412KLedb (2/5): Avoid if posdible - At the time of our visit, there were very limited hotels available and as a result this was the only option. The hotel is in the process of being sold and within a month was being transferred. As a result, the cleanliness, comfort and attitude of the desk staff reflected such. The rooms and hotel was very dated, not updated in decades. No phone in room, tv worked (?) very poorly, only one station that was fuzzy st best. Small desk lamps for lighting. Curtains were way too small to adequately cover the windows. No toiletries provided at all. One a positive note, there was a wall-mounted hair dryer. Would not stay here again.
- Joline (6/5): Amenities were not as stated - We choose this property because it had a sauna and pool but everything was closed and not available for use. They should state in season only if they shut it down. Property is dated but was very clean. Beds were not comfortable but none of the beds in Germany were comfortable
- danp819 (2/5): Visiting Triberg for clock and exploring Black forest - So what could go wrong with a 4/5 trip advisor rating for a hotel at the end of a long road nestled into the beautiful Black Forest with a 800 Meter trail leading out back to the waterfall in town? Are you familiar with the “Bates motel in the movie psycho”? Well that is what we found, dark, unkept facility with over grown grounds that looked almost like an abandoned condominium project. Our room was large, commercial carpet had a wear pattern almost down to pad, pergo wood floor in bedroom section, two single rock hard mattresses pushed together to make a queen, pillow???...what pillow? Might as well of rolled up one of the sand paper towels to use for it was the worst pillow with some sort of tapestry attached. Furniture was out of a Soviet era apartment that looked like it was made in post WWll shop and abused for 60 years. 5 station tv was useless and dark unlit hallways with a balcony looking at parking lot. Drapes provided no privacy but could be used as a fishing net in a local river. We even thought of forgoing the cost and trying to find another spot. Staff was friendly but did not seem to be trained in the finer points of hospitality business. Sad part is if someone bought this facility, gutted and renovated and put proper staff in place you would have a gold mine because the location of the facility posed so many possibilities! So we tried to sleep on the bed provided using some clothes for a pillow and kept one eye open for Norman Bates!
- D (4/5): Old, tired, no pool - We selected the hotel because they had a pool. The pool was empty; you cam use the public pool 300 meters down the road.
The hotel, the grounds and the rooms were all old and due for a complete renovation.
Having said that the staff was friendly and the rooms very clean.
- MarcusMilanoMilano (8/5): Quiet location, large room, old furniture, nice staff - Far from the main road, you can sleep well in very large rooms.
The furniture was rather old and a few lamps in the bathroom were out of order.
We didn't try the breakfast, it was not included and we preferred to try out options in the city.
Wifi connection was a bit slow.
We didn't try the pool, the surrounding are more interesting.
The staff was nice.
- yazzies (10/5): Very nice hotel with beautiful view - The guest host are very friendly, the room is big and have big enough balcony to enjoying the beautiful view.. The hotel is old fashioned but remind me of Waldorf Astoria years ago..
For people who has walk problem is a big challenge, because from the parking place you have to take the stairs 😉
- Y9883SMjoels (2/5): Very bad - Dirty and horrible, a tipical very bad hotel, if you want pay for stay in a bad hotel and make want to go to your hause because i sure its better tan the hotel. wifi? Where? because in the room thete was no sign too, everything bad, the personal the staff does not care and that is seen in everything.
- R4593IHadrianav (6/5): Wonderful service but extremely old hotel - The service was wonderful and the owners very very attentive. The only problem is that it is very old. And needs to loose the carpet ( difficult for those who have allergies) and needs new bedding. Hope they keep improving because it’s definitely got potencial to be a precious jewel in the Black Forest
- micha_m408 (4/5): For Tourists. Don't eat. - I do not recommend.
Dirty and old fashioned.
If you want to eat frozen Pizza, factory frozen bread, cheap fries.
You should go to Netto, Edeka or another shop.
In this Hotel ONE frozen Pizza costs 7-9 Euro. They just make it hot in Oven.
The Businnes Champions !!!
- Manuel (6/5): Lo mejor el tamaño de las habitaciones - Habitacion familiar muy amplia pero mobiliario muy antiguo
- M (10/5): Beautiful location, friendly staff - We only stayed here for one night due to our tightly packed itinerary, and we loved it. The staff was incredibly friendly (I spoke my best German- which isn't great- and they were very kind when I couldn't fully understand their replies), and our room included a group pass to the waterfall, which you normally have to pay for when you arrive at the trailhead. The room had an incredible view, and was older and very cabin-like, in the most charming way possible. It was also enormous for a hotel room for 4 in Europe. It had two separate rooms, a large entryway, large bathroom, and a living area in one of the rooms. One room did have bunk beds, so as long as you're okay with that, you should be fine. The only note I would mention is that if the road is icy, do not try to drive up to the very front of the hotel. There is parking right by the sign at the base of the hill (with the hotel in view and in walking distance up some stairs specifically to get to the hotel). We didn't realize that, and almost slid into the ditch while trying to get back down the hill since it was incredibly slick. The breakfast was delicious and ready for our group specifically when we walked in to the dining room. I really can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was. If I'm ever back in Triberg, I'm definitely staying here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good trip to Triberg - Everything is functional, but dated. The WiFi was intermittent in the room. The breakfast was delicious but expensive.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - ziemlich abbewohnt, muffig im flur, der geruch von schwimmbad und sauna überall,frühstück reichlich aber billige waren (bestimmt abgepackt vom discounter)
- Fingertips (6/5): Old but correct - This hotel is very old (facilities, fornitures,...) but comfortable and correct
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing weekend! - We stayed there over a weekend and everything was in walking distance. That is very convenient. The staff was very friendly and very intelligent. They were able to speak in English and in French.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Triberg Visit - The hotel was in an absolutely beautiful location, had plenty of room for our family of four, and the staff was very friendly. If you are looking for modern amenities however, this may not be the hotel for you. It did have a pool, sauna, and and small workout room however. Overall our trip to Triberg was wonderful and this hotel was perfect for our stay.
- Juha (8/5): Sauna ja uima-allas - Uima-allas ja sauna olivat loistava lisä!
- jessicabM9075EV (10/5): Family of five - Enjoyed our stay, hotel is older but the service was excellent. The breakfast was superb, the works from eggs, meats, fresh breads, etc. Staff was very attentive and helpful with sight seeing activities. Has a great pool and sauna. Wi-Fi worked great for our family. We were extremely pleased with our stay.
- Destiny (8/5): - The location was excellent. The pool was very nice for the kids to enjoy after a day in Triberg. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel was dated, but very clean. Our room was very large as well, having its own bedroom and kitchen area. This will be my hotel of choices when visiting the area now.
- Matthew (10/5): Beautiful Retreat!! - Wonderful location up in the hills near Triberg. About a 5 minute drive to town. We had dinner from the restaurant located within the hotel outside on the terrace, beautiful view. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pool and sauna were a pleasant surprise. Make sure to bring a bathing suit!! Would definitely recommend this place.
- NotFrequentTraveller (8/5): Nice and typically old Black Forest hotel - Very friendly owners, nice service. The facilities are nice, we did enjoy the heated pool as well as the restaurant. When our son spilled his drink, the waiter was quick to respond and brought a new drink. We arrived around 11 AM, and even though we knew that check-in was not until 3 PM, we were upgraded to a two-storey suite which we could enter immediately.
We have been in other hotels in the Black Forest, and this one compares well. The rooms are spacious, the kitchen it came in handy, the beds were comfortable. Yes, the decor is a bit dated, and the Wi-Fi was rare, and, it has to be said, the bathroom window could have used a curtain. But we did enjoy the atmosphere and spent a memorable three days of there.
- Bennysupreme (6/5): A hotel to get away from the world - This hotel was at the top of the hill and away from everything. It was maybe 3 minute drive to the main strip where the house of a 1000 clocks was and many other clock shops.
As for the hotel, it was old and most of the items where dated but clean, Our room was the building off of the main lodge and had a view of the city. It was two floors separated by stair. The room had 2 balconies, one down stairs and one upstairs. The beds were large and decent to sleep on. The bathroom was ok but everything again was dated. the bath/shower didn't have a curtain so it was basically a tub. Also, the bathroom had large window but nothing blocking the rooms across the way of getting a view of your goodies.
The hotel had a nice size pool and was heated.
The thing that I really like about this place above any others was the owners or at least I think they were. My son was really sick and there was nothing open so they gave us a home remedy that they used for there kids back in the day. They even asked about him every time they seen us and talked to him when we checked out.
NOTE: I really didn't explore the hotel, I just picked my key up and went to my room the 2 nights we were there. I didn't eat there or check to see if they offered anything else besides a room.
Now to the title of the review away from the world. They really wasn't any tv, now wifi and no phone signal. Perfect for spending time together as a family!
- Florence (8/5): hôtel accueillant avec des services complets - Unes seule nuit mais nous avons profité de la piscine et du restaurant, service très agréable et en langue française
- eyaln (6/5): Value for money - This is an old hotel, operated by family- Irene and Mirgos and number of employees, The rooms are very large and contains a kitchenette, an area of a bedroom and a living room. All rooms have a balcony. The furnitures are simple but satisfy the needs,we always enjoyed the hot water, there is a sauna and a swiming pool and gym the gym is not large and contain several machine like instruments bicycle, elliptical, stepper, multi-trainer machine and some more ..
Breakfast (which we got) was rich and nourishing; and contained various types of breads and rolls baked instead (were hot), a number of various types of sausage cheese, jams, coffee tea and fruit juices (such as apples and oranges)
The facilities and the accessories in the rooms are not new, this rural design look as if it did not change the design from the eighties (80'), we did not get new towels every day (the towels were replaced only after we asked for ), the beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean and had nice duvets.
Every day we could ordered in the dining room for dinner, venison surf - 17 Euro, 5 Euro vegetable soup and schnitzel with salad and chips 16 euros. Beers (half a liter) 3 euros can also order some soft drinks like Sprite Coke or orange juice.
Downstairs there is a pub which serves drinks, there is a table football and ping-pong table and the television is connected to the satellite with over 1800 channels, so that in fact you can stay up to date
Not all the rooms in the hotel have direct access to the elevator (Some are half floor up or down) and you should pay attention that the road to the hotel is on a slope, so the hotel is at the edge of the rise)
The wifi was weak
- Katie (10/5): Hotel with character and great location - Great hotel with tons of space, we had a separate bedroom in addition to the large main room and kitchen (didn't test out the kitchen but it didn't look like the oven worked). Great views of the countryside and a nice (free) tea and coffee setup in the room and also in the lobby. Wifi occasionally worked in the room but we didn't really mind not having a good connection. Very close to the city of triberg which is why we were stopping through. Overall great place to stay!
- Rebecca Kathleen (6/5): Ok For A Quick Stay - The room was dated but clean. The beds were older and not as comfortable as other hotels on our trip. The WiFi did not work in our building. The location was not bad but not close to the center center. Check-in was quick and easy and the clerk was very nice. All-in-all is was simply ok.
- Alfonso (10/5): Nice Triberg - Great double room, good breakfast, very friendly staff. 5 minutes dtive to downtown Triberg. Nice option in the Black Forest
- jacobfthomas (10/5): Fantastic unmodernised German family run hotel - I stayed at Berghotel Tannenhof-Schwarzwaldblick Triberg for a week in Sept '16. The rooms are unusually large even the smallest rooms are larger than your standard hotel room with a full four piece bathroom (in wonderfully retro colours and spotlessly clean). The atmosphere was great with a family that care about you enjoying your stay. Food was great in the hotel restaurant and the downstairs bar and games room was brilliant as was the indoor pool and sauna. Would definitely stay there again.
- oanab205 (4/5): Old fashioned average hotel - The owners are pretty nice people and very helpful. We got an upgrade on our room to an apartment where the kitchen was not functional. This is not by far the cleanest hotel I have stayed in and there is this smell from humidity. We only staid for one night and we just needed a place to sleep. The pool is nice, but the facilities need a lot of improvement (old and used tiles, old towels, lights not working really good).
The free WIFI is actually no WIFI at all and for those that are dependent on it, that sucks. We were not even able to see the network from the room.
On the good side, we had complementary water in the room and a water cooker (comes in hand if you have babies or need to drink a coffee/tee).
Hotel is located in a very quite area.
- ozkrisc (4/5): Dated and dark - The room we were allocated initially was large, but very dark, backing onto a bank and smelt of stale cigarette smoke. We complained and were allocated another room which was an improvement but still very tired and dated. The host sits by the front entrance chain smoking and the smoke drifts back into the foyer. The drinks were expensive. We ordered a beer and a glass of wine at the bar and paid 50% more than we had at a bar in the town. The wifi did not work in the room and it did not work on the terrace right outside the foyer. The whole property is looking run down and a bit neglected. On the plus side the room was large and the pool was good. It is in a nice quiet location.
- stacyh09 (4/5): OK but no wifi in room - Very outdated facility with decent location. One the plus side: friendly staff that speaks English, good breakfast (additional cost), good restaurant on site, fitness center, decent sized rooms and very nice views. There is a bar underground between the two buildings with a game area and cold drinks--pay on the honor system.
The downside for my family was the lack of wifi. I am OK with the limited German television channels and the very outdated decor. We had to go to the reception area to get any wifi reception. The owner told me that they have been there four months and working on it...did not seem to be much of a priority. I felt the price we paid was a bit much--however--upon check in you get a card that allows free entry to the waterfalls and the pool/playground in the town (a short distance away). My kids had a ball at the town pool. Parking is a bit limited but we didn't have any physical limitations that got in the way of climbing uphill to get to our room. Also, we had a two level apartment that had a kitchen, but the refrigerator and stove aren't hooked up. We did have a hot pot in the room for coffee. There is a nice pool that is not heated (owner said only in winter).
Overall, a bit overpriced and outdated. Too many amenities that are not what they appear in picture. No wifi = will not recommend.
- GlobeGadabout (6/5): Just average - Our stay was in October 2015.
The receptionist who met us upon arrival was friendly, and helpful. The room was large, and the breakfast was good.
On the negative side, the cleanliness of the room was below average, and, the parking on the upper level near the main lodge is limited. If you have to park on the lower level, there are many steps up to the main entrance.
Transportation is necessary if planning on going into town, or, to Triberg Falls.
- 567oriela (10/5): Large rooms. Perfect for families. - Large and comfortable rooms. We stayed in a two levels room. Living room was located on the ground level while a big bedroom was located on the second level. The room had also two balconies that are also an added value for the room's pastoral atmosphere. There was also an integral kitchen in our room which was great. The town itself is very nice.
Hotel's breakfast meals were absolutely fine.
- TravelTheEarth14 (10/5): Large comfortable rooms, indoor pool, easy access to the Black Forest! - We loved staying here and will stay again. A delicious dinner at the hotel's gasthaus after a day of sight seeing in the Black Forest. We used the indoor pool to swim and exercise but we didn't use the hotel's breakfast as we were up early to get out and travel around the Black Forest. A long walk uphill from Triberg to return to the hotel but an easy walk downhill to Triberg. There is parking at the hotel but you have to climb steps to get to the front desk. We enjoyed the large rooms and some had small kitchen areas with sinks.
- chrismK607EH (6/5): Very average and not for those of limited mobility - Now renamed Berghotel Schwartzwaldblick, and apparently in new ownership for about a year or so, this hotel is quite dated and badly needs investment, which the new owner does not appear in a rush to do. Very limited and basic breakfast, (see John M's review) but the beer is good. The owner does speak English, which was helpful as our tour guide did not speak German! (We do though). There is a pool which was unattended and quite cold (approx 18 dec C) and in pitch darkness initially when we used it. We had to summon the help of a Polish employee to get the lights on. The worst part about this hotel is the 30 yards or more very steep climb (1 in 4 at least) from the coach dropping off point up to the hotel, with several flights of steps as an alternative, topped by another flight of 15 steps. This is very daunting if you are dragging a heavy suitcase behind you and have arthritis. We were offered no assistance either by the hotel or the tour operator. It was equally hairy on the way down as I thought I might trip and slide to the bottom of the hill on my behind way ahead of the coach!
Restaurant service was very slow as we had not paid for half board so they had to prepare our choice specially. We waited nearly an hour between ordering and being served. We still saved money though over the half board deal.
This hotel was adequate for a three night short break, if you only expect a B&B level of accommodation, but really not for the longer stay, or expect more from a hotel.
- johnmC2932HL (4/5): Short stay early December 2014 - Family run budget hotel. Old fashioned large room with 70's furniture and bathroom. Nice balcony with nice view. Minimum staff on hand but owner(the only English speaker) their most of time. Breakfast was the worst continental breakfast I have ever experienced - one cereal (corn flakes) bread and rolls (no croissants) cheap jam, budget looking sliced ham and one cheese, domestic 2 slice toaster, 1 flavour yogurt in a big bowl, an orange cut into slices and orange drink, tea and coffee. We booked half board but were actually served a set menu that had one choice of soup, main and sweet. There is no bar except in the dining room and that shuts after breakfast, no lunch available or tea and coffee. Quality of food was very budget and basic assuming you liked what you were given. no tea/coffee facilities in room. mile walk all down hill and steep uphill on return. no staff available on arrival so had to drag cases up steel incline to hotel. television was old fashioned and there was only 9 channels no English speaking.
