The design of the villa, the furniture, it was handcraft and all of an outstanding quality. The environment was quiet. We just loved it and we really want to come back. It was on a good distance from Ubud.

Hard to imagine thinking about staying anywhere else - the villa is gorgeous, the view is tranquil and the service from the whole team is exemplary. We are very grateful to have been made to feel part of Penestanan village and would happily come back.

- JudithHG (10/5): Fabulous location and accommodation - Our individual Villa at Penestanan was superb. From the private pool to the well laid out living space and private bedroom, we had everything we needed and wanted. Breakfast was delivered to our villa every morning, and the villa was serviced every day when we were out. The villas are a short walk to coffee and food at Penestanan, and a longer walk to many Ubud restaurants.
- Jonathan (6/5): Did not meet expectations and price was too high - Accomodations were very clean, kitchen facilities excellent, very comfortable bed and high quality linens, plenty of hot water, a beautiful pool which I didn't get to use. Supremely helpful staff, nice breakfast. Cons Very noisy and close to road, absolutely overpriced, first cottage bedrooms were separated and lots of openings for mosquitoes and insects, no a/c in living area, second cottage was newer, but outside of bedrooms was no a/c so very hot and atuffy

- 289annekes (2/5): A very bitter disapointment!! - What a bitter disappointment our 4 day stay at Devi's Place was. we came for the said rest. But they were in the incredible noise for 4 days from 7 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. It turned out that there was a ceremony, about which the owner should certainly have warned us because then I would have booked a different period. Unfortunately, here too, money appears to be more important than morals towards returning guests. So be warned! Because the temple where these ceremonies take place is right behind the cottages! There is absolutely no rest, you really go crazy from the rickety all day and we came home very overstimulated. And the owner gave the impression that he didn't care at all.

Gorgeous setting, peaceful and beautifully decorated. It has everything you need for your stay. The breakfast with eggs, fruit and toast is just glorious and so beaufully set out by staff in your villa every morning. Our villa had three rooms and a pool. There is one room in the main house with two bathrooms and kitchen and living, dining area (all within a private courtyard) and two more seperate standing rooms with their own bathrooms. The beds are comfortable and queen sized and air conditioned. The worst part of our stay was not booked longer than three nights. We will definitely be back

- V1337YUjohns (10/5): Heaven in the Rice Fields - This was our second stay. We purposely selected the same villa we had 5 years ago. It’s an oasis of calm and splendour in the rice fields. We’re walkers so walking to town was no problem. Getting a Grab car or food was also very easy. The staff was welcoming and as kind as our previous stay. We’ll be back.
- BeckyR0berts0n (10/5): Tejakula Devis place - The place in tejakula was stunning. Beautiful house and the pool area was lovely right on the beach. Siki made lovely simple breakfasts and was very helpful. She lived behind the house and only came to find you when you had asked for her help. We stayed at 6 places around the west, north and on Nusa penida and this was our favourite. The local children came to play on the beach a little further along in the late afternoon and were very friendly as was everyone else we met. It was lovely to see the children playing with coconuts and swimming and snorkeling.
- DGunung (10/5): Magical place in Sayan. Can’t wait to go back! - We stayed in the Jepun Villa for 4 days: wow, what a great place! The pictures do not even do it justice! It is well kept, clean, quite and has a perfect location. Away from the busy road to Ubud, looking out on rice paddies, in total privacy, the only sound you hear coming from ducks and toke. Hot water at any time. A light breakfast served in your villa 10 minutes after ordering it! The pool was fantastic. Great walks around the villa in the rice fields. Would I stay again? Absolutely YES! Walking to Ubud is possible but can be challenging. If you do not drive a scooter it is a bit far; also traffic around Ubud is dramatic nowadays.
- Bonnie (10/5): Best vacation ever! - Devi's Place was amazing. If you want to truly experience life in Indonesia - outside of the city, this is the place! My husband and I averaged 7.5 miles walking each day (our choice) and discovered little treasures everywhere we went. We also ate at the local restaurants. We did not experience any stomach issues that some people tend to have. Putu was amazingly responsive. Breakfast was delicious every day that we had it. The fresh local fruit was a great starter for our day. In the middle of the rice paddies, we were able to watch the planting season. We have so much respect for those working in the fields. We enjoyed the private pool and the outside shower. We will be back and we will stay at Devi's Place.

- Monica_W1970 (10/5): Amazing Stay In The Rice Fields - This is one of the nicest , most intriguing places we have ever stayed in. Since we had a group of 6 we had the main house (2 bedroom suites, kitchen, large dinning area with two deck living areas) and the a-joining smaller house (1 bedroom, kitchen, small dinning area and one deck). These two structures surround a pool and large canopy bed. The place is well decorated, the bathrooms were open air and beautiful. The rental was so nice we spent half a day just lounging around. I'm not sure how much we would like sharing the pool space with another couple if we had had only 2 or 4 in our group. I'm also not sure how often this happens on this rental property but it is set up to be used that way. They provide you breakfast, and when I say provide, I mean 3 people come at the time of your choice to fix and serve you a full breakfast of local fruits, eggs, toast, and coffee/tea. It was amazing!! Each day cleaners come to keep the place looking great. One of the things we loved most was the access to nature. There were all sorts of beautiful snails in the yard and even a few in the bathroom. There's a tadpole pond by the pool, birds swooping in and out and geckos keeping the bugs at bay. Mosquitoes were rarely an issue due to the breeze from the rice fields. The area is amazing. I kept wondering where the impressionist painters were. This place is IN the rice fields, which is a culture all of its own: shade huts for the duck keepers, spas, yoga studios and a vegan restaurant (excellent). There are walkways and paths cutting through the fields for a morning stroll. If you want to ride a moped in Bali, this is the place to do it. Our host provided us a car and driver for the days we needed it (HIGHLY recommend getting drivers in Bali for just about everything unless you are an expert moped driver. They are affordable and will give you a ton of information about the Bali culture, history and traditions.) While there is no shopping area close by. There are restaurants within easy walking distance. If I return to Ubud, I would have to come back. Such an amazing place for the price!!

- elinak361 (10/5): Hidden and beautiful! - So this is a "secret spot" of mine in ubud. I almost don't want to rate it because I want to have it for myself haha. But if you rent a scooter this is great value of money. They also offer you ride to ubud town, and they drove me around all the time. The service is therefore excellent and they all seem welcoming and service minded. Also you have breakfast on your balcony/terrace and you can order different dishes. When I was there in December I also had the common pool to myself which was lovely. Also the garden around the houses blew my mind.. And they were keeping it clean regularly. There's not a bad word to say! But one important thing is to know - there are plenty of little creatures, since it's so close to fields. Specially geckos and some of them are big, but indeed harmless. I had one "house pet" in my room and he was pretty loud haha. So if you don't like to be surrounded by little animals then this is not the place for you.
- Daddybanks (10/5): Vill Shanti a slice of Heaven - Villa Shanti sits within the Devis Place village. This place is awesome. The listing says it only sleeps 6 but thats with 3 very large Queen beds and ensuites in 3 rooms. There are also 3 large day beds, one is completely self enclosed as well. The central pool is inside the middle of the separate rooms. Making the Villa very private and spacious. Staff bring breakfast and help with anything you need. We hired some Vespas and found it easy to travel around the Western Ubud area. Use a car for the day if you want to travel out. Getting picked up to do ATV was great by example. Stasy at Devis Place but ask for Villa Shanti specifically.

Other than that, fantastic place. Cost was minimal for a taxi into Ubud. Would definitely stay here again in future
- TRAYCOS (6/5): Nice accommodation but not so nice experience - The accommodation is comfortable and in a good location ( if you enjoy walking ) The staff were way too blasé however. As we were in a close villa to the office area we could hear the family who run the place until up to 10 in the evenings. Not that I don’t like children but it was noisy and on holidays you just want some quiet time. Breakfast was below average so we ate out after the 1st morning.
- Arunner2015 (10/5): Happy to call this place home for our time in Bali - Devi’s Place provided more than we expected in pretty much every regard. The Mandala Villa was roomy, romantic and beautifully set up for an extended stay. We had everything we needed, and the separation between the living/dining area and the bedroom made it especially easy to keep our bedroom bug-free and cool without running too much A/C or fretting about keeping the dining area door open to the patio and enormous private pool. The outdoor path to the pool came in handy as well. Most importantly for us, the villa felt private, quiet, and utterly comfortable - a great retreat from hours spent in busy, traffic-heavy Ubud. The information booklet in the villa was a great resource, and Putu proved to be a fantastic communicator and host. She set up our airport transfers, delicious ordered-in dinner for the night we arrived, and a couples massage (totally worthwhile and relaxing) in our villa. Penestanan is friendly and convenient to everything, particularly the Campuhan Ridge trail, and we thoroughly enjoyed the early-morning pop-up markets for local breakfast treats; the one closest to Devi’s Place had the best Nasi Campur I’ve tasted yet. Our sole regret was not planning for a longer stay here. I can’t think of a single criticism for this place.
- CDN_PDX (8/5): Bright units and friendly staff - Devi's place worked out well for us on our first trip to Bali. The set up for a small family travelling with a teenager with the two-bedroom villa was a good choice as we each had our own spaces to escape to. The kitchen and common area was well organized and clean. The pool was also very clean and nicely maintained. Lovely view of stars in the evening over the rice paddies in the back. Staff was polite, attentive and helpful. It is a little distance from Ubud, which wasn't a problem for us. We did try and walk to the closest village from Devi's but without sidewalks and little shoulder on the road with all the traffic and winding roads, it was more daunting than we could manage. The driver Devi's provided was professional and kind, but very shy and quiet. He still working on his english, so we had a hard time communicating. We used another driver/guide from town who was less expensive as well. I would have given five stars, but my only complaint about the unit was the overuse of noxious smelling mothballs. I understand they are trying to keep bugs at bay that most westerners are not accustomed to, however, by the end of the second sleep, my throat and eyes were on fire and I was having a hard time breathing. My husband and my son were fortunately not as affected. I asked the staff to find them and take them out of the room which they graciously tried to do, but I found 3 more directly under the bed, near the headboard afterwards which explained why I was having so much difficulty at night. All of our clothing for the remainder of the trip took on the smell of mothballs and as we are unpacking there are still things that smell like mothballs. I would have to hope there is something less toxic smelling that could be used?
- allysunamoon (8/5): Stay at devi's place - A wonderful place to be out of Ubud, without being too far (25 mn walk) very quiet and peaceful. The rooms are very nice and typical. The staff is very kind. I liked the welcome drink ;) This place needs renovation but I saw a lot of people painting and improving the place, the rooms. Otherwise, the pool was hot and the view over the rice fields was beautiful, a must at sunset.
- briAuckland (10/5): Again, a very lovely stay - It was our second time at Devi’s place and we loved it. We very much enjoyed seeing the rice paddies back into being planted again contrary to last year when there was an irrigation issue. So peaceful and it reminded us of rural Bali years back. Unfortunately Putu’s young family has moved on to other duties, but Ketut, Kadek and Putri were still there and very helpful and engaging. Thank you all. Hopefully we will be able to return to another stay.

Swimming pool was clean, but a little cold (did not stop the children). Ubud is just a 60k IDR taxi ride away. Staff are friendly and very helpful in arranging everything you need from food to excursions. CCTV and 24 hour security. We really enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it.

- sclerner (10/5): older style cottage in rice paddy style - I have been coming to Indonesia off and on since the 1990s, and have lived in both Jakarta and Yogyakarta. This reminds me of the old style kind of family hotels you used to find in Sanur pre-1997, although it is more like a collection of cottages and houses under a unified management in the next village from Ubud (which is now, unfortunately, a little too popular). Butterflies in the garden, and a phylanx of dragonflies to keep the mosquitos away, marigold offerings everywhere. This is a great place for families and couples looking to relax and unwind, but not for younger party animals, or those seeking the luxury 4+ star hotel experience with hordes of staff everywhere. The whole village seems geared toward alternative yoga loving vegans, because every restaurant or spa I passed seemed to have not just vegetarian, but rather vegan offerings (meat-eaters take heart, they still have all the Balinese standards too). Those seeking a more lively pace can access it next door in Ubud, but if you appreciate the older more relaxed Bali style you will find it here. Will gladly come again.

- 868JH (10/5): Perfect - We recently spent a wonderful four nights in Villa Via and loved every minute of our stay. Devi's Place is well out of Ubud in the quiet village of Penestanan. Nearby, within walking distance, there are little convenience shops to pick up bits and pieces, a laundry, some smaller cafes and restaurants. A torch is a good idea for night time as the streets are narrow and dark. We enjoyed wandering out through the adjacent rice fields in the afternoons. The villa was spacious and lovely, with great outdoor living areas, a dining area, a great kitchen and the pool was perfect. The gardens were superb. We opted for the simple breakfast and made use of the kitchen to whip up anything we needed. We also had dinner delivered by local restaurants a few times and ate at home because we loved our space and didn't want to go out. The bed was comfortable, linen was spotless, air con was great, the bathroom was partially open air and spacious and the kitchen had everything we needed. We had a driver take us to the nearby Bintang supermarket to pick up supplies. All staff were friendly and helpful, making us feel very welcome. The lovely extras are too many to mention, from the pure water dispenser to the library shelf, there is no TV reception, but a collection of DVDs is provided. Our stay was perfect, we'd have happily stayed for a month!
- JH (10/5): - A lovely, quiet haven. Our villa surpassed expectation and the photos I’d seen before booking didnt show the space and beauty. Villa Via was beautiful. We had everything we needed and more. Staff were friendly and discreet, popping in to clean our villa when we went out for a walk. Backing onto rice fields, the location is in a quiet village area, perfect for getting away and relaxing. There are plenty of little cafes and convenience stores nearby to pick up any supplies. A torch is a must for walking local streets at night. We loved everything about our stay. We didn’t walk into Ubud, as the roads are a bit narrow and busy, but we spent a couple of dollars on a local driver to run us in. I highly recommend Devi’s Place. We will definitely return.
- cpopdontstop (10/5): So cozy with lush surroundings - Was very excited to stay here! My mentor had a spot here, as I was staying else where before i extended my trip. This place is so cozy, with bohemian chic feel, beautiful gardens, and very friendly staff. Bathrooms have no ceiling, so while you’re showering, you can gaze up at the lush gardens & nature that overflow in. The cat, Tewy was probably my favorite part. She visited me several times through out the day and checked up on me in evenings. I needed that as I was missing mine back home. The garden views are nothing short of spectacular, and you have access to walk through the rice fields onto the most amazing restaurant, Moksa. Sunrises and sunsets are breath taking!

There was plenty of space, a full kitchen, a private pool, and it was set in the middle of a beautiful rice field. The service was amazing. Every staff member took care to make sure every part of our stay was great, including arranging a birthday cake that was waiting for us at our villa after a day of touring. The staff is able to arrange drivers, tours, and anything you need. You also receive a discount at the Cantika Zest spa, which was amazing.

The staff were excellent, always on hand to help, the place was amazing and set in a beautiful quiet little village 25 mins walk to Ubud. We had a beautiful pool right outside our living area and felt completely relaxed. Putri would bring breakfast every morning whenwe ready and Putu organised a personal foot massage from Lisna and it was that good, I had another a few days later along with a back massage to feel completely rejuvenated before our trip back to Melbourne.We dined at Moksa vegan restaurant, twice (5 mins walk out the back gates) as the food was exquisite, even for us carnivores. Also a great view of Mt Agung out through the back gates too that you wouldn't see from the front. We would certainly recommend this place for a peaceful relaxing stay away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud.

Devi’s is perfectly located if you want a village feel. The environment is perfect. Quiet and peaceful. A great intro to the vibe that is Bali and Ubud in particular. Cottage Was unique and very personalised/tasteful. Nothing extravagant ..a bit like staying in a friends house while they’re away. And it grows on you the longer you are there. If you’ve come for the action or accessibility of beingin Ubud itself then maybe this isn’t for you but for those needing their space this is perfect. It’s not easy to get into town unless hire scooter or get a taxi but there’s some nice little cool coffee shops and food available within short walking distance

We had the most relaxing 4 nights in this beautiful place with private pool (shared with a second villa) - waking up, we could see directly the pool, the beautiful deity statue and then behind the rice paddies. If you are looking for a real home away from home - the spacious villa with living area and outdoor bathroom definitely allows this. Breakfast gets served in the fully furnished kitchen just for you, no other guest - fresh fruit and coffee as standard, eggs as (paid) add on. Team was incredibly helpful in organising on short notice trips to the volcano (1:30 am start), we were renting a scooter, bicycles are available, airport transfer easily organised and we did an extreme late check out due to a flight at midnight. Flexibility, hospitality and friendliness and helpfulness (recommendations) and an amazing place make this a place to return to. 5 stars from me

We loved the area too, though it's hard to leave for even a few hours since the spot is so serene. Internet was largely great (could stream videos and skype) though it did go out one evening briefly - this has happened to us at other nice places in Bali and was only an issue that one time. We did not see any mosquitos at Villa Mandala - it gets a nice cross-breeze. Staff helpful and friendly. We'll be back!
- Diana (10/5): A beautiful place to relax and retreat - I came to Bali to have a special time with my teenage daughters. Devi's place was absolutely perfect for that. It was the sanctuary that held us in a loving embrace as we nurtured our mother-daughter-sister-relationships. It is perfect distance from Upud, close enough to go there as often as we want and far enough away to have some peace and quiet. Both my daughters and I would love to return to Devi's place again one day.
- Susan (10/5): - Lovely stay at Devi's place, so private and peaceful. The breakfast was nice and fresh and promptly delivered. It was great to feel safe there as I was traveling alone and the security was good and low key. I stayed for 20 days and would have stayed longer if I could. Scooter hire was very convenient with new scooter in good condition. The aircon worked really well. Awesome stay.
