Switched us to the Retreat, which was lovely and didn't charge us extra. Unfortunately, we wouldn't stay there again if we had to take a regular room. Couldn't afford the Retreat at the increased price.

- Keith (10/5): - This is a small old school motel. Located right along Hwy 51 within 2 blocks of the downtown shopping area. Very clean and quiet. Owners are very receptive and prompt to any and all requests for additional supplies, ice etc. Not real fancy or terribly roomy but clean and well kept none-the-less. Parking right in front of the room and even though it is on the highway it was pretty quiet. Would recommend for stays in the future

- Thomas (6/5): I'll give it a B- - I enjoyed staying here. The staff were very patient with my elderly family members. However: I am legally blind without my glasses, and even though I spent three hours deep cleaning my room (I'm in perimenopause, and I've NEVER been charged an additional room fee) they charged my dad $20 for "excessive messiness..." Well...it wasn't me, or if there was a spot, I didn't see it because I'm nearsighted and I take my glasses off for deep cleaning. I hope that Rachel reads this and gives folx who are stressed out some grace. I'm sorry I couldn't leave a tip, but I discussed the reason why that might not be possible with my finances. To be traveling alone with C-PTSD, Autism, and ADHD is not easy, but I'm almost 40 and I know how to take care of myself. And I know how to clean a motel room. If you are not legally blind, this is probably a great place to stay, but honestly, my feelings are hurt. Value is good, but my favorite place to stay up here is the Skylark, they are far kinder and more understanding of their clientelle. Plus, this location is not for folx who just want a room key--please note: staff is not always reachable, especially if you're having a hot flash in the middle of the night, need ice, and the office keypad is not functioning correctly. I hope the owners read this review and refund my dad the $20. I would have paid for the room myself but I'm currently dealing with identity theft. Regards, Katherine.

- Susan (2/5): - Do not recommend. Arrived at 7 pm -- property dark and vacant, no staff or guests in sight so I called a number on the locked office door. A agent from another state answered the call and said he couldn't help. Another agent called me an hour later to tell me to enter the abandoned motel through a code. By that time I had traveled 30 miles to secure alternative accommodations (NOT on Expedia) and had no plans to return (of course I was still charged the full amount)! Steer clear of this place--for a premium alternative I highly recommend Cobblestone.
- Marshal (10/5): - Outside of the hotel didn’t look promising, but the inside of the room looked very updated and modern and clean, very close to Kurt’s island for bait if your on a ice fishing trip, right near the water, and within walking distance from the bars and restaurants downtown. Good tv channels and self check in/check out with door code.

- S5912JPmorgank (10/5): Nice stay - Clean, newly remodeled and cute modern farmhouse style motel. Had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Soft sheets and fluffy towels. Ice maker in the office and plenty of parking. There was even a plug in by the sign for our diesel truck. Would definitely stay here again!

- Robert (8/5): - Looks like the owners successfully renovated an older motel and gave it a more contemporary look and feel. Rooms are small compared to more newer properties but the room works for two if you're primarily just looking for a place to lay your head at night. Electronic check-in that allowed guests to go straight to their room was a nice feature. Some of the fixtures in the bathroom are starting to show their age. Also had to reboot the cable to get it to work, but all in all it was a good stay.
- Steve (4/5): - I truly wish I could give this property review as the location and the cosmetics of everything are fantastic. We had a horrible smell in room three. I truly believe they tried to get rid of it, but at the end of the day, we are unable to spend time with our friends or ourselves in the room besides sleeping. I don’t know if there was something on the carpet or potentially a rodent into dead in the walls. We had booked a room because of the location again next year. We will be taking the $20 hit and canceling the room, unfortunately.
- cheri (6/5): Mostly good - I knew the accommodations would be modest (motel), and I was only looking for a clean comfortable place just for sleep. It had been remodeled and had basic accommodations including a small refrigerator, hair dryer, hair products, coffee maker and tv. The room was very clean, the linen and pillows nice and comfortable. My main complaint was that the room smelled of vomit. As I said, the room was spotless and clean. I mentioned it to the housekeeping lady on the way out. She thought it might be due to a recent rug deep cleaning that has some residual odor. Regardless, it was very off putting.

No personnel on property, had to call and the manager came by to fix. We had an early check-in which cost (2 hrs early) which cost an additional $20. The hotel rating was a 9 and considered “wonderful” which steered us there, but not true.

You get a code to get into your room, and there are two doors you can lock (storm/screen door and regular door). Rooms are beautiful—lots of attention paid to the remodel. Bathrooms are also nice. I’d definitely stay here again, and I’m not usually a motel person.

- ajayhawkfan (10/5): Great location, very clean rooms, nice ower. - This location is great to visit the city center. My wife and I were on a motorcycle trip in northern Wisconsin. We stayed here for one night and enjoyed our experience very much. The room a spacious and very clean as was the bathroom. The bed was comfortable with nice linens. The owner give us a few recommendation for dinner and drinks that were very good. Our room was in the end of the building, closest to the highway and I was a little concerned about the possible highway noise at night. I heard nothing while going to sleep. I can highly recommend staying here.

- Joseph (10/5): Quaint Motel With Excellent Value - Second time I’ve stayed there. Great value for someone just needing a clean comfortable room. No frills such as free breakfast or a pool. Just a nice room at a great price. I also like the convenience of a motel - just back up into your room’s parking stall for a quick unloading. Only downside is the rooms are smaller than other hotels in the area. However I’m not going to pay 50% more for some added space. I’ve already booked my room for my next visit to Minocqua.

- Steven (4/5): Couldn't lock my door while I was there. - Couldn't lock my door when I left and it was unlocked when I got there. Nobody in the office and was told someone would look into it and never did.
- Neda (10/5): - The room was very clean but it smelled a little funny. We couldn't figure out what the smell was. The check-in and check-out were done via texts. The process was easy and smooth. We wish there had been 4 bath towels in the room where 4 people were staying rather than just 2. Since it was late at night when we checked in, we didn't want to bother asking for more.

I was very put off by the rusty water, to the point I couldn’t shower and bought bottled water to brush teeth. I don’t hold this against the owners but I wish I had known. There is no mention of this in any reviews I have read.

- TRACY (8/5): - Modern, clean, organized, quiet. Only thing to criticize is the grout in the shower was moldy and behind the bed was dusty. Caulking was also due for a replacement. It was Memorial Day weekend in a resort town and so I understand the surprising cost.
- Lori (4/5): - The room had an awful smell when we entered, almost like puke. I actually considered just leaving and going somewhere else and counting our losses, but decided to stay. Bed felt like it sagged, not very comfortable. Now looking at reviews I see that other people in the past have thought it smelled also, obviously nothing is being done about that. Won’t be staying here anytime in the future.

- kathleen (8/5): - The room was recently remodeled, which was really cute, but unfortunately the space between the bed and the entrance to the bathroom was soooo narrow, i was afraid id stub my foot! The bed was also very low to the ground, it was the height of a blow up mattress, and kind of hard. I only had 1 blanket, there wasn’t anyone in the office to ask for another ( it was 30 deg ) so i went to the store and bought another . All in all, for a 1 night stay it was ok, if it were actually $79. However, after fees and taxes, it cost me $101.

- Edward (8/5): Perfect for Solo Traveler - Basically, as expected so nothing disappointing. Bare bones, simple room, with anything youd really need. Pretty small so recommended if you have kids you should look elsewhere but price was right for a solo traveler and no complaints.

- Stephanie (8/5): Cute little motel - The room was comfortable and the location was convenient. We had a small issue but they were very quick to address it. Every employee we came across was very friendly. One small suggestion would be, now that it's off season, I'd suggest taking the time to clean the mildew from the grout in the showers. You can tell money was stuck into this place to renovate it but the mildew is a pretty big turn-off.

- John (6/5): OH THE SMELL - Terrible smell in room 9. It was Labor Day weekend so everything was booked so we just had to deal with it. But we never got “used” to it. It just smells bad. No experience with any staff. We travel almost every weekend for hockey so we are very used to hotels. This one was just barely ok. I would not recommend.

Had some lights that didn't work and always worried about possibly flooding the bathroom with the small shallow shower stall but it is a great stay and we are happy the inn is here when we come to visit my parents in the North Woods. Would highly recommend.
