Guest Reviews
- RobP154 (2/5): Not like Pictures - First of all - the staff are lovely. Wonderful kind people doing their best in difficult circumstances.
It’s not at all as pictured or reviewed here and no way justifies the high reviews. It’s shabby, dirty and run down and smells pretty bad. The bathrooms are pretty disgusting and it’s infested with mosquitoes.
Breakfast is nice but there are no options. Local area is shabby, smelly and a short walk from main area.
- Rob (2/5): - First of all the stuff are lovely. It’s clearly changed hands and they’re doing their best in trying circumstances. I don’t normally leave bad reviews but 4.5/5 rating is completely misleading.
WARNING - this hotel is nothing like the pictures. It’s very dirty and run down, the toilets and drains smell bad and it’s infested with mosquitoes. The breakfast is tasty but there are no options.
You can hear every noise from other rooms and it’s a loud area. The fan rooms are fair too hot and smell very bad.
If you want to come to Santa Marta then I would make sure you opt for the best accommodation you can afford.
- Geraldine (10/5): Excelente - Excelente
- Walter (10/5): Friendly and helpful - Excellent service, facilities, staff, they were all very kind and friendly.
- Melanie (10/5): :) - Fue una gran experiencia, alucinate el servicio, no encuentro palabras para describir este magnifico hotel
- Geraldine (10/5): - Excelente
- sadeeyor (10/5): Kind - When you are poorly, come here, beyond the cathedral. It's not a fancy hostel, but people will take care of you. Which happened to me after rampants diarrhoeoa. The girl fully made sure I was ok, mopped up my brown with no thing after from asks to call the hospital three times. I kept assuring her I was ok, as I crawled back to bed. I emerged weak. Just a ceviche wich processed the wrong way with vinegar. These things normally don't happen. When they did, she was concern. Next day, I was drained yet fine. Well, well enough to enjoy meeting my friend somewhere else in Colombia again. When you travel and inopportune things happen, that simple no fuss sure-you're-ok attitude is lovely.
- florentf265 (10/5): Nice & relax place in Santa Marta - My girlfriend and I spent an excellent stay at Aluna Casa. We arrived at 5am in the morning and the staff was so nice to let us check in with no extra costs in the room. We enjoyed the common space and a very good breakfast run the morning. The staff is nice and helpful and we had a very nice talk with the owner Jim. We will definitely return there if we stay in Santa Marta. Perfect for couples or travellers wanting to rest and prepare for other expeditions !!
- kaarins2019 (10/5): A gem of a place in the heart of Santa Marta - This is a great hostel: super clean, quiet, nice decor and well located. Rooms are cleaned daily, free coffee is provided, and there is a nice terrace. We found the staff helpful and friendly. An excellent value and a place we highly recommend.
- EmpanadaPolicia (10/5): Fantastic Peace and Quiet amongst the Hussle Bussle - Loved my time here, super chilled out and a great place to base yourself in the city. It is close to everything you want, the beach, bars, restuarants and shops. It is nicely tucked away, just off the main street and maintains a surreal calm behind the tastefully done cafe and reception.
The cafe/restaurant has great coffee and breakfast so you can plan your day in peace. The rooms are really clean and well maintained and overall you can tell the place has been very well thought out and designed.
Looking forward to my next visit....
- Jennifer (4/5): - Patrick is a lovely man. The breakfast, not included, was very good. The place has seen better days and the neighbourhood is quite unattractive. We moved to Santa Sofia hotel and were very happy there.
- ericaw3000 (10/5): Lovely friendly hostel - We stayed at Aluna for a couple of nights in September 2018. The hostel was basic but had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and helpful; they kindly stored our bags when we went to Tayrona NP and helped us organise a transfer to Cartegena, and even posted on some of our belongings that we left behind. The cafe was also great for breakfast.
- 782francesr (8/5): Good location with basic rooms - We stayed before going to Tayrona park. The staff were helpful when we asked about how to get there and had free maps. The accommodation was basic, with WiFi only on communal areas. Kitchen facilities available. We had booked a room with air con but got one with a fan that was good enough
- 681justusv (8/5): Nice and quiet - We experienced that there are a lot of party hostels in Santa Marta which are fun if you want to party but a pain if not. Therefore, we were glad about this place, since it is quiet. It does not have a typical hostel atmosphere since it is more like a guest house. The rooms are basic and mostly clean. A drawback is that the WiFi just works at the reception but not in the rooms.
- daustin12 (10/5): Great Place, Great Peopl.e - Recent trip to Columbia included a stay in Santa Marta, which turned out to be the best part of the trip.Friends and I stayed at Aluna, a cozy hotel just a couple of blocks off of the water. Patrick (the owner) and his staff could not have been more friendly, hospitable and helpful. Their recommendations of what to do/see (and what not to do) were all excellent. They made this vacation one of the best i've had in a long time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent hostel experience - For a hostel this was very good. Great staff, clean room with private bathroom, fine breakfasts and cafe choices at other times. It seems like this hostel has the best interests of the clients.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice place and quiet but barebones. - This is a nice place, safe area, quiet, and the staff are great and very helpful. The Wi-Fi essentially only works near the reception desk where there’s no AC and Santa Marta is hot. The bathrooms are very small and there’s no hot water.
- georgs838 (10/5): Excellent standard and great staff - This is an amazing place in Santa Marta! The hostel's rooms are super nice, clean, spacious and beds are really nice. Wifi might just work in common areas, but it was always fine for us. The staff is very friendly, funny and helpful! For the price definitely worth going there. The location is very good also
My recommendation: go there if you want to feel home in Santa Marta
- bernadetter189 (10/5): Aluna Casa staff - Just a quick note to highlight how helpful and knowledgeable Hidalgo was. The guy is just the type of staff anybody would want to employ.
The casa looks lovely, didn't stay there but we would if we went back to Santa Marta.
Thanks, Hidago, for assistance in booking bus to Mompos as nobody else seemed to know about this service.
- MisterT19822 (10/5): An outstanding, friendly and relaxing place to stay in the heart of Santa Marta - We felt super welcome and at home at Aluna with their fantastic service and lovely rooms and common areas. The extra services such as the handy luggage storage, laundry service and in house cafe make this a fantastic base for exploring the area. The location too, couldn’t be better, a stone’s throw from the best restaurants and bars in the city.
- Andymurphy90 (10/5): A comfortable stay - For an Irish couple abroad it was great to see an Irish welcome sign in the reception. We were greeted shortly after by the owner Patrick. A lovely man who was always up for the chats and was in and out throughout our stay.
Patrick was very helpful and answered all the questions we had about the area. He even suggested a few places we should visit on our later trip through Peru, which we have since done.
The rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. It's a little pricier than some of the accommodations in Santa Marta, but it is definitely worth it.
Patrick and his staff made us feel at home and as a result, our stay in Santa Marta that much more enjoyable.
- Andrew (10/5): Fantastic Service - Fantastic stay here, staff were very friendly and accomodating, place was very clean and has a lovely little cafe area. We opted for a ceiling fan instead of aircon which was grand bar one night that was particularly warm. Patrick was very helpful with his information about the surrounding areas and transport. 5 minute walk from the beach and bulk of restaurants.
- ALH384 (10/5): Perfect small hotel in Santa Marta (gateway to the Lost City & Tayrona Park) - The Aluna Casa y Cafe is a small Hotel only a few minutes walk from the central square in Santa Marta's old town. The Hotel does not offer great luxury but has everything you Need: clean, tidy and quiet rooms, simple but tasteful doecoration, very helpflu and friendly stuff and excellent coffee! Very good value for Money! The Irish owner of the place is a great guy and always ready to help or to give some advice if you ask for it,
It's not very far to the different tour operatorrs for Ciudad Perdida - and was for us an excellent location to start our trips to Ciudad Perdida and Tayrona.
- Adrian540 (10/5): Super budget hotel and staff - We stayed in this well situated downtown hotel as a family of four for two nights and really enjoyed it. We had a room with two bunk beds that was clean and pleasant and comfortable, there is 24-hour coffee, seating places and a cafe downstairs with drinks in the fridge is a good place to sit and read or chat. Breakfast is separate but very nice indeed and very reasonably priced. The staff were all friendly, cheerful and helpful, the owner Patrick had very informative advice on accessing the national park and, if you wish to go deeper into this region, I am sure he would be an excellent resource. Aluna is a couple of blocks away from downtown restaurants, bars and nightlife, which gets quite lively after dark and has a great selection of vegetarian food and restaurants. The wifi was a bit of a struggle at times, but otherwise our stay here was outstanding.
- h_s585 (10/5): Really friendly staff - We enjoyed our stay really. The people her are very friendly and the rooms are clean and for the price really a bargain (with aircondition and private bath) ! They have washing service and the location is nice, very short walk to the main streets and a big grocery store.
- NMP91 (8/5): Nice stay - Clean, comfortable and in the safe part of Santa Marta. The staff are friendly and helpful (don't speak English) and let us store our bags for free.
The breakfast (not included) was delicious and would recommend the iced coffee!
The internet only worked in reception, with the Extended Network not working at all. So don't stay here if you want good, fast, reliable internet.
Beds were comfortable, however Hostel World doesn't discriminate between air conditioning and non air conditioning rooms, so you will need to check on arrival.
- Susie (10/5): Great stay - Very enjoyable stay, close to the main resteraunts and beaches. The couple who run the place were from Dublin and were very helpful as our Spanish isn't great. They were very happy to help us organise the rest of our trip
