Guest Reviews
- Anthony (10/5): - When I booked to stay here I didn't know what I was actually booking since I only needed a room for one night and this was the only option close to the Fort William train station that was left. WOW! I was blown away by it!!! The rooms were amazing! The dinning area and dinner was wonderful. I've already decided that when it comes time for my honeymoon this will be place I want it at.
- Wesley (10/5): - Super cute space - loved that it was on the castle grounds (fun to explore and go on a nice long walk). Room was huge. Only downside was the room was quite damp (wet items didn't dry in 3 days with the heat on) and there was no fridge - which is tricky since you're sort of out in the middle of no where with not a lot of food options around, and a lot of hiking where you want snacks.
- Ronnie (6/5): - We were there 2 nights. Rooms are above the bar/pub so we could hear the music and noises from the kitchen. No hot water on the first day and no apologies or offer of compensation from the hotel. Located right on a busy highway going into Fort William. Definitely need a vehicle if planning to stay here as it is located a few miles from town. Rooms comfortable but bathrooms need updating. Not sure I would stay there again.
- Nicole (10/5): - The room was huge. It is an older room so the floors creak, which I did hear my neighbors walking around. There was a bar and restaurant downstairs which I decided not to eat at. Looked like it wasn’t very busy, so I drove into fort William which was about 15 minutes away and had more options for food. You have to check in at the castle down the road, staff was friendly. Bathroom had some gunk on the sink when I came in. It wiped right up. Overall great place and would stay again.
- Carol (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay. Room was clean and comfortable. Close to downtown Fort William. The Glen Nevis Restaurant close to our hotel was a great dining experience.
Would stay there again
- Jeanne (10/5): - Just a beautiful place. And, you had to check in at the castle - which was extra fun. Very quiet and comfy
- Mats (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay, and the rooms are very nice and located in the Inn with a bar below it which is convenient for refreshing drinks after the journey. Would highly recommend staying at the Factors Inn.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice but could be even better. - Quiet area with easy access to town by car. Room was a good size and in quite good condition. Instructions to find the room were vague as it was in a different building to where we had to register -a short drive in fact.
- Denis (10/5): - Very clean and nice surroundings
- Angela (10/5): - Loved this place! Bed was comfortable, staff when checking in was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and nice, would definitely stay here again!
- Lois (10/5): - Quiet, secluded stay. Out of town, so need a car to get around. No breakfast provided.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Quiet, comfortable room.
- Brian (8/5): - We had a good sleep.
- Thomas (10/5): Beautiful hotel to stay while in Ft. Williams - Absolutely beautiful cottage located about a 10 minute drive from the main area of Ft. Williams. The inn is also on the premise of a beautiful manor with gorgeous gardens and pathways that we walked. There is a bar and restaurant on site but we venture out to one of the local restaurants that had a live local band playing. The cottage has such charm. I would highly recommend staying here if you want to have a quiet, peaceful getaway from the main downtown area.
- Melanie (8/5): Decent room for a decent price - Our room was a tad dated but very comfortable. We had dinner in the pub which we felt had a very limited menu and pricey for the quality of food
- Richard (4/5): - The room was small, wall paper peeling, no elevator. Shower didn't work.
- Sarah (10/5): - Very comfortable stay
- Brenda (8/5): - Beautiful setting. The castle was stunning but way beyond our budget so Factors was a great option. Therooms are huge. No bathrrom fan or refrigerator but otherwise great.
- Susan (4/5): - Check in at separate location was awkward and confusing. Staff rushed us out the door. Their only suggestion for dinner was the pub below our rooms. The pub was dead and had a strange smell. We found our own spot for dinner. The rooms while large are above the pub. We couldn’t sleep until those noise stopped around 11:30. The road near beside the location is also busy and load.
- Kerrie (10/5): - We loved the beautiful surroundings and country feel. The facilities were very clean and pretty. We
- Scott P (8/5): Great Room, Confusing Check in - The check in is SO confusing. We checked in at the castle up the road. They stated we were in the cottage so we went to the cottage which did not have our room number. We went back to the castle and they finally told us to go to the pub and the room was above it. Great room, 2 bathrooms!
- Randall (10/5): - Rooms were very nice and comfortable. Check in at the castle was easy and quick. However, the real highlight of The Factors is to have dinner downstairs. One of the best meals we had in our entire time in Scotland. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
- Laura (10/5): - Beautiful short walk to the castle. Loved the walled garden
- Michele (10/5): - Beautiful property, lovely room. Ian, the gentleman whom we saw on check out was lovely to deal with.
- T (8/5): Excellent room and price on way to Skye - Initial problem with check in very happily resolved. We stayed in room 6 and were extremely happy with the spacious room and facilities, very, very comfortable and relaxing. Especially as we had our dog - bed and feed bowls provided. Eating in the Factors Inn below was an added treat, and we eould cerrsinly recommend. You should be aware of where to pick key up, and no breakfast where you stay, and rooms upstairs, but dont be put off as it is quite a gem in its own right.
- Michael (6/5): - Property is in bad need of updating
- Collette (6/5): - The room was nice. My problem was the check in process. Our room was not ready on time. Once it was ready, the receptionist was going to drive down to the cottage in a golf cart but decided not to. Her directions were not very good and we had difficulty finding our room. There are 2cottages and they do not have the room numbers on the outside. Our key did not work well in the cottage where our room was, so we thought we were in the wrong spot. My husband finally got the door open and we found our room.
- Laura (8/5): - It was quiet and unique. The restaurant was a little pricy but the food was excellent!
- Steven (8/5): - Great rooms very large and comfortable.
- David (10/5): - Our room was well decorated and spacious. It was very quiet at the Inn. We felt like we were the only people staying at the Inn. Factors Inn is very close to Fort William where we had dinner and did some souvenir shopping.
- Glenn (6/5): Factors is a two star operation - Ok, shower was terrible, little gnats in bathroom, sofa cushions in sitting area need to be replaced. Interlochy Castle tries to run it remotely, and basically it does not work. Tha staff at the castle and those we dealt at Factors for dinner were top notch.
- Barbara (10/5): - Lovely, elegant alternative to staying in the castle. The pub on the first floor was perfect- food and drink excellent and wait staff catered to our every need!
- William (10/5): - Best place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfectly respectable - It was what we were expecting which was good. It was simple and clean/tidy. Decor was dated but we did expect this being rated a 3 star anyway. Nice extra of 2 dogs bowls and mat in the room ready for our small dog. Just a shame that dogs aren't allowed in the main hotel to have breakfast so we chose to not have breakfast there, otherwise we would have.
- Richard (6/5): - There are no staff members at the Factor Inn, you have to check in at a larger hotel up the road and come back. Breakfast was not included even though it said it would be which makes the property overpriced.
- Gary (8/5): - A so so experience inconvenient for dinner options
- Lynn (8/5): - Lovely big room with all the facilities we needed.
- Neil (4/5): - The room was dated and relatively clean, but not the greatest. It was difficult to get help when we needed it from the front desk
- Kerry (10/5): - Wonderful place. Great landscaping and big room
- Wendy (2/5): Disappointing - Check in was horrible. First, you have to go back and check in at the Castle. There are NO perks. They show food and restaurant in the website and there is NONE. You can go to breakfast back at the Castle for 38pounds each. We asked about dinner for the 2 nights we would be there and they were booked solid (my fault).
We wanted to sit outside and have a glass of wine and there was not a table or a chair anywhere.
It was just a very disappointing experience. We stayed the next 2 nights at the Inch Hotel in Fort Augustus. It was awesome. Apparently, they are part of the same hotel group and they were very upset at our report when we were talking to them about it.
We found a little place at the golf course 5 minutes away... The Caddy Shack. It was fantastic. Great bar, sweet people and good food.
We went to dinner there twice and breakfast once.
They told us that the restaurant at the Inn has been closed since before COVID. It seems the website could be easily updated to reflect the current situation.
I will never book the Factor again.
- Alastair (8/5): - Lovely room - very spacious and easy parking. Only downsides were that the room was a bit musty smelling, one of the blinds wouldn’t close properly, and check-in was up at the castle which is a reasonable distance away over poorly maintained roads.
- Glenys (8/5): - Large room. Comfortable beds. Uncomfortable sofa. Needs a fridge.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Such a disappointing experience - 1. Inaccurate information of wifi name and password on the guest sheet and binder—2 incorrect wifi names that no longer exist
2. Unknowledgeable staff—had no idea what their own wifi name and password were
3. Irresponsible manager—asked me to check if the light was on the wifi router which is placed in the hallway, instead of checking up on it herself or sending someone to do it. I went and checked it anyways and told her the light was on. Again, no attempt was made to come to the site and check what was wrong. Instead, she said there was nothing she could do but calling an engineer who can come in the next morning since it was after 5pm (it was just after 5pm, meaning no internet service in my room for at least 15hrs). And she said there won’t be any compensation because wifi is an “outside provider” and the hotel is not responsible for it.
4. Unsanitary room—hair in the bath tub, a brown stain on the towel, blood on the wall, and a disgustingly dirty kettle + a HUGE spider under the sheet.
5. No reception in the building—Factor’s Inn & Cottage is operated by another hotel. You need to make a 15min round trip (or more if you have luggages or backpacks to carry) to the Inverlochy Castle Hotel which is a 5-star, fancy place. Probably another reason why staff is unknowledgeable and the manager is so rude, busy taking care of her own “luxury hotel” guests.
6. You need go to this hotel to check-in and pick up a room key yourself, so please be aware if you are a backpacker!
- Jonathan (8/5): Comfortable place to return from a hike - Comfortable, clean, lots of hot water, quiet. Easy parking. Lovely friendly check in staff.
- Irene (8/5): Spacious accommodation - Couldn’t find anyone at reception when checking in and out at the castle, but when I found staff, they were friendly.
The accommodation itself was spacious and clean.
- Meggan (10/5): - Beautiful property, excellent room and very comfortable bed!
- Beverley (6/5): - We were booked into Factory Cottage. We chose this as it had the option of kitchen facilities. Two weeks before our stay we were informed that we’d been moved to Factors Inn. No kitchen facilities or even a fridge in the rooms. No apology.
Factors Inn is dated and room 3 smelt musty. Toiletries are small so take your own if longer than a single night stay. The beds are very soft.
Our stay was ok however we would not stay there again if visiting that area.
- Deborah (8/5): - Extremely friendly staff at the castle.
- Carole (8/5): Nice stay but feels a little cut off. - You check in a Inverlochy Castle and there was a lot of standing around waiting to do so but lovely friendly staff and the rooms I saw if the castle were beautiful. You get your key then go down the road to Factors Inn. The building is just across the road from Ben Nevis so you can get a nice picture from the car park. Up the stairs to the room, and you enter into a nice large room with a bed, dresser, sofa and TV etc and 2 bathrooms, one with shower and one with bath. The sofa is a sofa bed and absolutely dreadful to sit on. I personally feel the two bathrooms for one room is overkill and feel it would be a better idea to have one of those as a small kitchenette with maybe a fridge and microwave in it as once you are in the Inn you are very cute off from the castle and it’s a bit of a way in to Fort William. I think they are missing a trick there as this would make them very nice self contained units. We were only there for one night so it was fine but any more than that wouldn’t have suited me.
- William (10/5): - It was quaint, nice and quite beautiful.
- Will (10/5): - My wife and I are American, we visited on our anniversary trip and they were very friendly to us. It must have been a slow week, middle of April, so they upgraded us to a better room for free. I asked when we checked out if we were the only ones in the inn because it was so quiet, apparently we weren’t. The king bed was great. Lots of space in the room, comfy couch, two bathrooms for some reason. The biggest thing that could be improved was the Wi-Fi, looked like they had a mesh system so the connection was great but the internet speed was barely usable.
- denise (10/5): - Very spacious. & comfortable room although it was not lit or sign posted very well so we wern’t sure we were in the right place … once we we in it was a great room … plenty of space & facilites, huge bathroom & they had put a dog mat & bowls in the room too
- Verified traveler (8/5): Thin doors - Having to check in at a separate location was annoying but after that the room was nice. However the doors are thin and you could here every time people came and went and as there was someone arriving at 00:00 and another departing at 05:30 I was kept awake at both these times.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Ideal location - The bed was very comfortable & the shower amazing with lots of hot water. The reception staff, especially the lady using Room 8 were so helpful. However, our room looked as though it needed a little TLC. There had obviously been some kind of flood from the bathroom above which had left the ceiling in our bathroom needing a couple of cracks filling in & a coat of paint. Places where fixtures had been repositioned required holes filling in or sanding & then painting. The bath surround had seen better days too. All little things but not what I would have expected when it is part of Inverlochy Castle Hotel. Perhaps covid is partly to blame for such things being left. But having said all that I would still stay there again. It is a handy location for exploring the area with parking right outside the property & the kitchen facilities are useful as well.
- Shearman (10/5): Wow factor - Amazing , breakfast outstanding!! Perfect choice of location
- Sue (8/5): NC500 - Really lovely room to stay in, but no where to get food or drink unless you are staying in the castle. We was shown around the rooms of the castle for example the living area and sun room but to be told only the guests here can order was not very inviting at all. My money is as good as anybody else's so that part of the stay was very downgrading. Not impressed with that part of the stay at all. 🤔🤔🤔
- Pauline (10/5): Fort William stopover - Clean & comfortable stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good service. Excellent accommodation. Comfortable beds. Good showers!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was gorgeous, very peaceful and just so relaxing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and excellent room and value for money
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Property is old, smelly and lots of bugs.
- Sheryl (10/5): Great Stay - Great stay; comfortable bed, large dog friendly room, lovely food and great customer service.
- Alan (10/5): By The magical castle - Truly excellent
- Sheila (4/5): sadly not up to standard - Sad to say this truly was most unpleasant. Upon arrival the entire building was in darkness, and locked up. There was sign advising me to call the main hotel. I then had to drive to the main hotel for the key into the building. It smelt damp, the room was grubby, the bathroom full of mildew, and other peoples long dark strands of hair.... I am blonde ! The bar was totally out of use, there was no dining on offer and this fact should be posted on the page advertising this property. Fortunately the bed was comfortable though the dust balls on the Padded headboard which I hadn’t noticed till this morning made me feel quite revolted. Such a shame.... this could have been good.
- Barbara (8/5): Barbara Galloway - The only thing is we have left a pillow my fault but please ask staff to take wet wipes to clean the television changer but lovely lovely room. And the staff second to none BRILLIANT
- Verified traveler (4/5): - See my e-mail to expedia saying why i chose never to stay there after seeing its location and reading more reviews. I am not prepared to spend my holiday in such a place.
- Julia (10/5): - Fantastic last minute break - room in cottage with shared kitchen on grounds of Inverlochy Castle - beautiful setting - convenient for outdoor activities. Staff were most helpful but also plenty of privacy. Would highly recommend for base in Fort William area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Worth it - Decent wee cottage with cool chill out area (kitchen)
- Peter and Christina (8/5): Nice place but disappointing.. - Stared off the directions given were wrong and we had to search for the property. When we arrived we had the property to ourselves..Good common kitchen and lounge room. The rooms were reasonably appointed. The curtains were impossible to move in their track. A light globe was hanging from the roof. Only 1 or 2 bedside lights worked.
The bed was reasonably comfortable..
The laundry with washer and dryer was clean and detergent supplied.
When other visitors arrived they were staying upstairs. The noise that came through the roof in our room due to sorely floorboards creaking upstairs was very annoying. We were kept awake by the noise from the people in the room above. We could even hear the people talking.
We stayed 2 nights. We were shocked to return to.our room.which had been serviced but the door had been left unlocked so anyone could have entered and gone through our things.
The front door was very difficult to close and and was always onlocked.
Overall the place was great but there were to many disturbing things. If these things were fixed we would stay again..
- Verified traveler (2/5): Do NOT STAY HERE - VRBO Charged me and then the hotel charged again, so right away, I have been double billed.
The room has a weird scent to it and it is a 2 Star hotel, not more.
- Carol (2/5): - Where shall I start. We went up to the big house to collect the key for the cottage, this is a bit of a drive up a very bad and long driveway. I went in and waited at the reception desk a woman in a black suit came to the deck did not acknowledge me and proceeded to go through paperwork on the deck when she finally asked if she could help me I told her that we had a booking for the cottage I was informed by her that she was the housekeeper and motioned me into a large sitting room where she rang a bell for someone to come and see me. I stood there for over 5 minutes I could see and male and female staff members on the other side of the room they looked at me a couple of times when eventually the woman came over to ask if she could help. I said I was there to book in she was quite pleasant and gave me the key. Off we went down the long and bad driveway to the cottage I tried to use the key and it would not turn in the lock there were two doors I tried both of them I also knocked on the door with no answer.
Back we went again to the big house, I told them that the key would not work , I was asked if I had tried both keys as there were two keys on the ring, (I am 67years old so yes I did) might be old but not stupid. long and short someone came down with us I presume the Manager he made me feel as if I was a stupid woman apparently you are supposed to lift the door handle up. Went up to big house for dinner another bad experience left without eating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable and quiet. Excellent breakfast offerings in an historical setting.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely to be so close to Inverlochy Castle. Quaint cottage. Nice room
- Verified traveler (6/5): If only it weren't so hot... - The rooms in the cottage were well furnished and quaintly decorated, except that the ventilation was not very good. We stayed there for one night which unfortunately was one of the record breaking hot nights in the UK. The rooms were scorchingly hot that none of us could sleep at all, and we heard that it was the same for other customers as well. The windows could only be opened a little, and it was stuffy all night long inside... I couldn't help thinking: what a waste in this otherwise very nice room! The staff at the Inverlochy Castle Hotel where we checked in were very nice and polite though. Customers of Factors Innand Cottage were allowed to use the hotel facilities and we had a great time playing in the lawn of the hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The overall grounds are wonderful, but the room we had did not have a working fan in the adjacent bathroom, causing our room to be full of bathroom odor
- Emily (10/5): Large Room, Beautiful Grounds - We booked two rooms for one night at this property. We chose this property because it was on the grounds of a castle. Check-in at Inverlochy Castle was a breeze and we were given directions back to the cottage and had no problems finding it. The rooms were very large, but the beds were a bit soft for our liking. The bathrooms were also very large and had a step-up tub, which would be a problem for anyone with mobility issues, but we were fine. The rooms were quite warm as we could not open the windows more than a few inches and there was no fan. The towel warmer was left on by the previous occupant in the second room, which made the bedroom quite sweltering. During our stay we had access to the castle grounds and walked many of the paths and gardens (some more well-kept than others). Our stay included breakfast in the castle, and we had fantastic choices made-to-order ranging from pancakes to eggs benedict. While the menu wasn't large, we left feeling full.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The guesthouse was a quaint old building that I really enjoyed set just off from the main hotel. The location was very tranquil and nice. The room was great with nice features.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a beautiful room with 2 bathrooms ensuite. We walked through the castle gardens and had drinks at the castle. Since the Inn is on the same property it's an easy and enjoyable walk.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We were not aware that the check-in is at the Castle until we got there. The check-in was smooth and we were surprised by how luxurious the Castle was. Service was also great. Our room was spacious with 2 bathrooms. Comfortable bedding too.
- Simon (10/5): Factors Inn - Beautiful grounds. The castle is very fine. The inn could do with some updates and the bed was ridiculously soft. That being said it was an overall good stay.
- Jamal (8/5): - There is no one on site for any help. The check- in process is a little cumbersome.
- Martin (6/5): - Excellent location, good facilities let down by uncomfortable bed
- Dieter (6/5): Traveling from oz - Stayed twice 2nd time was bad service and room
- Robert (10/5): Will come back - Peaceful, comfortable lovely location in the castle grounds. The food and service in the restaurant in the castle is superb
- Lillian (10/5): Cosy Cottage & Very Relaxing Stay - We decided to stay here as we wanted to break our journey from the Scottish Borders to the Isle of Skye. We were impressed with the cottage lights being on and the heating so that there was a nice cosy atmosphere when we arrived. We had no problem collecting the key from Inverlochy Castle Reception and then a short drive to the cottage. Although the facilities are shared we were lucky to have the whole place to ourselves which was nice. The room was comfortable and we had all we needed. We did self cater and were glad we did as it is a bit pricey dining at the castle. We did have breakfast there however but we still felt that it was a bit overpriced for what we actually got to eat. The staff were lovely and friendly and we would definitely stay again. The cottage would be a great place to stay if there were a few of you having a get together and the views from the grounds are lovely. We drove to Arisaig and the scenery around Fort William is breathtaking. We would definitely recommend the cottage to our friends.
- Alan (6/5): - It was fine, the room was very hot.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A nice building but the bed was not comfortable, the bathroom door would not close properly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Stopped in for a night and the room is a bedroom in a cottage with an ensuite, when the other guests wake up in the cottage it can be very noisy being that it’s an older building, but worth the stay
- Linda (6/5): - Nice large room. Very pretty location.Couldn’t get the Wi-Fi to work though Despite calls to the nearby castle where you check in. But a bit remote As it was about 10 minutes drive to find meals.
- CJG (10/5): - Big, quiet room at the inn with two bathrooms. Beautiful property on the castle grounds. Very hospitable staff. 7 minutes from Fort William.
- Jean M. (10/5): Outstanding. - Comfortable, beautiful location, nicely outfitted kitchen and I love high thread count linens! The walled garden and the grazing sheep were bonuses indeed.
- Oldie (8/5): Cottage on the Grounds of Inverlochy Castle Hotel - Pleasant self catering one night stay at the Factors Cottage on the grounds of Inverlochy Castle Hotel, Fort William.
- fleurviola (6/5): - We stayed in the Cottage. The interior walls were so thin that we could clearly hear folks in the next room and in the hallways - very annoying. The front door to the building was difficult to open and close, and so it was not always locked by other guests, raising security concerns.
- Elspeth (8/5): - It was on a beautiful property near Inverlochy Castle. The service in the lounge was unacceptable. We had to find a wait staff and our wine was not poured.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very luxurious place and good value for money. Good location within easy driving distance to attractions and facilities. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
- Alaina (8/5): - Nice large sitting room and great shower pressure. The bed was very comfortable. Nicely decorated.
- Judy (6/5): - The facilities were excellent but the staff was stuffy and acted in a superior manner to two very tired and weary travelers!
- Amanda (8/5): Beautiful room and spotlessly clean - Loved the bedroom - extremely comfortable. 2 bathrooms and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was exceptionally good served in a beautiful dining room.
Unfortunately there was an unpleasant smell in the hallway and landings. There was also rubbish strewn across the car park for the 2 nights we stayed.
- SRQJim (6/5): Overpriced - The room was OK but required an extra trip for the key, the bed was too soft and the street traffic made it hard to sleep. For the price I expected more
- Stephen W. (8/5): Pleasant place to stay apart from the main hotel; clean and quiet; breakfast at hotel was good. - Although separate from the main hotel, this was a nice place to stay...just a short drive or walk to the main hotel for breakfast. Clean and quiet, comfortable rooms, nice outdoor area for evening relaxation.
