Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): First experience of a hostel - First experience of a hostel and I could not recommend this type of accommodation enough. Wow value for money very clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.
- Abigail (10/5): - Friendly staff, beautiful building in a convenient location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Stayed 2 nights - I had to pay by cash although I had given my card details online. Luckily atm was just across the road, high charges though. Room was on the 2nd floor which didn't help lugging a big bag up the stairs. Room was warm and bed itself was comfortable and kitchen area was sociable. Bathroom was clean but could do with a dryer or hand towels. Location was handy, train station is about 12-20 mins walk depending on luggage, terrain was not flat. Overall a good experience, would stay again if travelling solo.
- Jess (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay here. A beautiful property set right by the river. Missed having a plug to charge my phone in the room, but other than that, awesome!
- Adeline (10/5): - The Old Mill Hostel is housed in a historic building dating back to around 1780, it brings a lot of charm to the place while everything has been well renovated.
The staff is very welcoming. Thomas paid attention to details and made sure every guest feels at home.
Bedrooms and linen are comfy which makes guests sleeping well and being nice. The showers water was at the right temperature which is quite difficult to get in an hostel, congrats on this.
The only negative point was the breakfast is very simple but it still a good value for money. I will defintetely come back to that place.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Beds are tidy but the floor hasn't been hovered of mopped for ages.
Bathrooms are also tidy, as well as the kitchen.
They have no lockers, so taken care of your belongings. Don't leave it at reception, just as I asked to leave my bag there, a man came in who left his bag at reception but it wasn't there anymore when he wanted to pick it up. I watched that the common rooms aren't always occupied by the stuff, so things begins reception an easily be removed by strangers.
Breakfast is ok, toast, jam and coffe or tea. They had the same old cut apples for my two days of stay. They were already brown and didn't look well. But there is a supermarket just around the corner so you can make your own breakfast. Even though when they say "breakfasts included" i expect more.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - One of the main reasons I chose this hostel is because the listing said it had free parking. When i checked in and asked where to park, the receptionist pointed to the paid lot next to the building. When I inquired about the free parking listed on Expedia, she said "No. It's free on Sunday, but good for you it's Sunday." When I asked what time I would need to move the car or pay in the morning, she didn't know and told me to go look outside. Paid parking starts at 8:30, it's €0.70 for the first hour, and €0.30 for each additional hour. Reasonable rate, except...When I checked in, the receptionist said she didn't have any change so I had to pay the exact rate in cash (they don't take cards) and now I had no coins.
The shower was also annoying, it operates a few seconds at a time by pressing a button...over and over again.
I have stayed at many other hostels, but this is one that I would not recommend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Receptionist was abrupt and offhand. On one occasion quite rude. She gave us no information about the hostel, and we were left to find out things for ourselves. When we got to the room some of the sheets were not clean.
- Amanda (6/5): - Wifi didnt work. Beds were comfortable, but rickety so every movement like an earhtquake. Floors were creaky so could hear people above constantly. Showers were most disappoinying - nowhere to put clothes (only one hook that barely held anything), push button shower that last 10 seconds with poor pressure. Included breakfast was bread and butter, no cereal. For €35 in a 4 bed mixed dorm i was disappointed.
- Iris (10/5): - The hostel was ok, the bed wasn't great so I slept on top of the duvet, the room was lovely and warm and the showers were great, I haven't stayed in an Irish hostel before and I was expecting more but for £54.00 for 3 nights I can't really complain. This is not a YHA so don't expect much. Continental breakfast is bread and a choice of jam
- Angela (10/5): great stay in lovely hostel - great stay for the budget traveller. They have a nice kitchen thats well stocked with cooking utensils and tools. They also provide wonderful homemade bread for breakfast with a range of yummy jams.
Tom and the rest of the staff there were very helpful and provided great service.
