218brianm (10/5): Book a room at the Roost! - My wife and I recently stayed at The Roost. Very charming Bed and Breakfast! We had the Sage suite. Loved it! We also were able to peek at the other rooms, too. They are impeccable! We were in Appleton for our 20th wedding anniversary and attended a show at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center (Moulin Rouge). The Roost was close to dinner and the PAC. The breakfast is worth it. Megan, the assistant Inn Keeper, was available for anything we needed. She is super friendly and wants you to really enjoy your stay at the Roost. Jessica (6/5): - Property has so much potential, unfortunately upkeep, mostly of the grounds and gardens is lacking. Rooms are adequately clean, but carpet is quite stained, light wasn’t working in our room, and outlets were at a premium. The assistant innkeeper was quite responsive and kind, especially with the minor issues of the light and needing an extension cord due to lack of outlets, however the larger problems lie in some of the owner’s choices. We originally had one of the smaller rooms as this was a quick visit, but both desks had appliances (coffee maker and fixings on one, and toaster oven on the other) so there was no place to set my own belongings on. There was a lovely soaking tub, and separate shower in another room, but only 2 towels and only 1 makeup wash cloth. When we unfortunately had a furry visitor scare us after we were ready for bed, we were promptly moved to another, much larger suite. This one had plenty of towels, an open desk, but no coffee maker. The parlor was lovely, with a coffee maker, to go treats, pizza oven and microwave, but unfortunately the power went out in that room when making coffee and heating up our leftovers. Word of caution if you book on this site, full hot breakfast is not included. Overall fair nights rest, comfortable bed (but no top sheet), and kind worker. We were able to see the other rooms, and would highly recommend the Bella suite for more space, but interestingly no appliances in that one either.
Donald (4/5): Sorry, not good - Grounds very unkempt, stains in carpet, ants and spiders in room. Shower head not working properly, no information in room about anything (tv, fireplace, literally nothing). According to hostess, breakfast not included because of booking through Expedia, so extra $20 apiece for breakfast. And I’m being kind in my review.

Traveler10431235457 (10/5): Feels like home, quiet place to stay. - This place is wonderful! The breakfast was amazing, it was delicious and more than what we could eat. Anyone that doesn't stay for the breakfast is missing out. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. Any extra amenities are available there. They had movies, books, wine, handmade soap and more. Most times you can't find that at hotels. My husband and I were looking for some place to stay the night and were originally looking at The Copperleaf hotel (which is very nice too). They were booked and most of the other hotels are near highway 41 by the Fox River Mall. Because we live out in the country, I wanted somewhere that had less noise from traffic so I could sleep better. I did a search for places to stay and saw this bed and breakfast. It was close to down town and the Darboy area. The bed was comfortable and our room felt like home, how it is decorated is warm and inviting. During the summer it has a beautiful yard and gazebo to take advantage of. This is something you don't get at a hotel. Both of us enjoyed our stay and talked about going back soon. De Ann is a great host and her pet dog is so friendly. Megan greeted us when we arrived and was wonderful as welll. I was sad to leave.

In a residential area, very responsive host, clean, and quiet. Best part was a very social breakfast in a common dining room with other guests.
ChicagoLadyB (10/5): Beautiful bnb - What a sweet and beautiful bed and breakfast. We were greeted by Megan at the door with an offer of wine (but husband opted for a beer.). After finishing up some paperwork, we went to our room and proceeded to get comfortable. It truly was a warm, comfortable suite. The welcoming fireplace, the beautiful bed, the reading area with recliners and a massive bathroom- all beautiful. There were lots of nice touches throughout-bubble bath for the massive jetted tub, bottles of water, a fridge, Kuerig with coffee pods and even a hot chocolate pod and some candy. We stayed in the Bella suite. We chose for breakfast delivery - because lounging was in order for holiday - and it was delivered at designated time and piping hot. It was yummy with a nice balance of assorted warm item and yogurt, juice and coffee. If you’re looking for a comfortable get away any time of year, this a great option.

Megan was super helpful with assisting us in booking the Charter bus to the Packer game. I was contacted prior to arriving and they recommended a couple options for dinner.

It’s amazing to be able to go away and not stress! Love coming to The Roost! This is our 4th trip and we have loved every one! The Bella Suite is amazing! You won’t be disappointed staying there for a romantic getaway!

Our room was clean, cozy and comfortable, the breakfasts were incredible and the hostess was delightful. De Ann’s special touches make this bed and breakfast top notch. I would absolutely stay again and I hope I have the opportunity to do so!

We stayed for two nights. It was a great place to stay while visitng the university that we have come to love - our room was a quiet space with large comfortable beds and in the morning there were huge tasty breakfasts.

lschreiner1234 (10/5): Great girls' weekend getaway - This was the perfect spot for our girls' weekend to visit a couple of the art galleries in the Appleton/Menasha area. We rented the whole place, so we were able to cook for ourselves throughout the weekend. As such I can't comment on the quality of the breakfast that DeAnn generally prepares, but I can say that DeAnn and Austin took great care of us, including shoveling us out from a 12" snowstorm that hit the area the last night of our trip! The inn is really nicely appointed. Huge bedrooms, each with their own gas fireplace and en suite bathroom with a giant Jacuzzi tub (which we didn't use). Very comfy beds and good lighting. Also a microwave in each bedroom which we didn't use since we had full access to the kitchen. Plenty of parking. All in all, this is a really nice alternative for a group that prefers to have space to hang out together rather than being cramped in separate hotel rooms. Thank you DeAnn and Austin for a really nice getaway!

This is a lovely place to visit, De Ann is a wonderful and gracious host. Rooms are spacious and romantic, each one has a whirlpool tub for 2. Selection of various movies (mostly rom/coms) always delivers. Coffee/snacks/candy available all the time as well!

Sadly, with that exception, our stay was rather unpleasant. When we first arrived, the hostess opened the door and greeted us IN HER BARE FEET. The advertising on Expedia says, "This property is managed by a professional host." The next morning, when she served us breakfast, she served breakfast IN HER BARE FEET. Not only is this unprofessional, but it is also unsanitary. Aren't there Department of Health standards for B&Bs in Appleton? If this weren't enough, the website says no pets except for service dogs. To our surprise, the hostess/owner has a dog on premises, and it's a noisy dog. This dog was barking during the first day of our stay, and again, early the next morning, this dog was barking so loudly we could hear it on the second floor. There is no warning that I could find on Expedia that says if you have allergies to dogs, you are forewarned that there is a dog living on the premises. And apparently, after looking at other reviews of this property, we are not the first person to have issues with the barking dog. Very unprofessional. Not relaxing. And to top it all off, the hostess/owner ignored four emails to them regarding our concerns, and Expedia had to contact them more than three times just to get a response. I WOULD **NEVER** STAY HERE. GUESTS BEWARE!

De Ann was lovely! She texted me to check what time I'd be arriving...and then greeted my family with a smile and a glass of wine!! She showed us around and I instantly felt at home. The rooms are beautiful and cozy. I loved all the decor - and the massive tub was relaxing - and the candles around it perfected the experience. The breakfast was delicious - it started with a breakfast parfait, then a fabulous french toast and eggs/sausage. The living room was a perfect setting to play a few board games with my teens. I can't wait to go back!

Everything was perfect and DeeAnn could not have fussed over us anymore. We arrived and were greeted with a glass of wine and an introduction to the room and its’ features. jlucey75 (10/5): Anniversary Trip - De ann is an excellent host!! The whole house is super clean. She met us as we arrived and took the time to show us around and answer any questions that we had. She cooked us a fantastic breakfast with gluten free options!! My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and she made it extremely special.

SuperTed19 (2/5): Failed to Meet Expectations - First, the positives: 1) De Ann, the owner/innkeeper is a very nice person; and 2) The breakfasts were fantastic. Unfortunately, the negatives were many and greatly outweighed the positives... On the Expedia listing, it states “Breakfast included,” “Free Breakfast,” and “Free full breakfast.” Despite all that, De Ann added an extra charge, stating via text: "due to the significantly reduced rate through Expedia.” If breakfast is not included in the price on Expedia, that should be clearly stated on Expedia. On the Expedia listing, it states “Pets not allowed.” In all of our previous reservations, this has meant that there were no animals on the premises and the environment was allergy-free. During our stay, there was a delivery on the stoop that appeared to be for a pet, I experienced allergy symptoms only while at The Roost, a barking dog could be heard in the building, and a dog ran up the stairs as we were leaving. If animals are present, it should be clearly stated so that people with severe allergies (like me) will know in advance. We were never able to connect to the main wi-fi, but we were able to connect to the alternate wi-fi. The signal was weak and inconsistent, often times disconnecting. We eventually disconnected and resorted to using our cellular service. The bathroom in the Meadow Suite is in need of attention. The fan and the shower light did not work, there is mold on the shower curtain, and the toilet refills for a few seconds every hour or so. Since The Roost is serving food, it seems reasonable to assume that safe food-handling practices (washing hands often, wearing gloves, wearing hair nets, etc.) are being followed. Discovering a long, red hair in one of the soufflés the first morning would seem to indicate otherwise. Note: De Ann’s hair is this length and color. On the Expedia listing, it states "Protective shields in place at main contact areas,” but none were evident. It also states that "Masks are required at the property.” Despite both of us wearing masks as we were taking our belongings to our vehicle and during the check-out process, De Ann remained maskless the entire time. Our three primary expectations when making a reservation for The Roost were the free breakfast, the pet-free (allergy-free) environment, and the policy that masks were required. Had we known none of those expectations would be met, we would never have made the reservation.

jeanbH4894BS (10/5): Great Place for the pre-wedding bridal party night! - I booked this lovely B&B for my daughter's pre-wedding night to help get the out of town attendants, friends and family members together for the pre-wedding night and time and next morning together. Hair and make-up folks came to the house, and all were able to share time with the bride and assist with her preparations for to get to the wedding church nearby! The rooms were beautifully decorated, some had fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, and most had lovely attached bathrooms. College friends who seldom get together could gather in the kitchen, living room, breakfast area or morning room to talk and giggle. This house could get all 12 of us all together for the night before the special day. Breakfast was delicious and prepared especially for gals to eat as they could on the day of the wedding. There was something also prepared for a gal with a limited diet as well. All worked out perfectly to make a special bridal memory in a beautiful home on the south side of Appleton. De Ann was a wonderful hostess and I would recommend this lovely setting for a similar experience for a bridal party, or a group of gals, or for a small family group to have time together. It would be a wonderful wedding night B&B, or romantic location for a couple as well! Added space at a home across the street may also be an option here, ask the owner if more space is needed. There are some lovely sitting areas in back of the house in a quiet residential area and lots of mature trees for a fabulous fall get-away. The location would be wonderful in any season!
debral596 (10/5): Fall colors getaway - We were up in Door County for fall colors and were blessed to find this B&B! It was quaint and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the excellent bountiful breakfast! Enjoyed all the amenities. Excellent location close to restaurants and downtown Appleton.
LaRita (10/5): - The Roost Bed and Breakfast is exciting to drive up to as it is large and on beautifully maintained grounds. Upon entering the B&B I felt as if I was entering a castle since the front doors are massive and the front hall is large with wonderful furnishings and artwork everywhere I looked. DeAnn made us feel welcome. Our room was clean, quiet and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was the most amazing breakfast I have ever had at a B&B! Great job, DeAnn. We loved every bit of our time at "The Roost."
David (10/5): Stellar Stay in Appleton. - Our visit to the Roost was nothing less than magical. The host was more accommodating than we could have imagined or hoped for. Attention to detail was phenomenal and the accoutrements were nothing less than first rate. We had complete confidence in the cleanliness and care was taken specifically to provide each guest with the sense of security. The host was simply remarkable; humble, kind, attentive and extremely hard working. My wife and I HIGHLY recommend this abode. We most certainly hope to return ourselves.

MsSassyAmy (10/5): Absolutely splendid! - My boyfriend and I stayed at the Roost Bed & Breakfast on our recent visit to Wisconsin. To say we were pleased is an understatement--this was by far the best stay I've ever had in any hotel/inn, anywhere. We stayed in the Hunt Suite, which was beautifully appointed. We had all of the comforts of home: a fireplace, a fridge, a gigantic bed, a large en-suite bathroom, and a huge jacuzzi bathtub (big enough for the two of us to enjoy together!). Breakfast was served at our requested time and we enjoyed it both in our room an in the dining room with other guests, depending on the day. De Ann is an absolutely fantastic cook; her breakfasts aren't to be missed. While we didn't spend much time in it, there is a lovely back garden with a screened in gazebo, a bubbling fountain, and yard games for your enjoyment. The Roost is conveniently located close to Neenah, downtown Appleton, and about 30 minutes south of Green Bay. There's even a lovely house dog, Zada, who was very excited to greet us and give us all the kisses we could ask for. We will most certainly be back and are recommending Roost Bed & Breakfast to every single person we've met, both in Wisconsin and elsewhere. If you're thinking about visiting, please do--it is absolutely incredible and a 5 star experience!
