- Lotte (9/5): -
- Michael (8/5): Quick overnight stay - You could hear the kitchen extraction fan from the room, a low hum, and breakfast being served from 8am, didn’t work for me- although the team did prepare me a breakfast roll and coffee ro go.
- Jonathan (3/5): - Dinner was awfull no apology just gave a free beer.
LP look my ml on NI in

Wonderful food & we thoroughly enjoyed our experience with you N/a
- Kris (7/5): - leuke gezellig hotel, De kamer was ontzettend klein, nauwelijks ruimte om valies open te zetten
- Kenneth (9/5): Had a wonderful time with overall comfortable facilities and great service. price a bit high - Room, comfort, friendly staff n/a
- prith (10/5): -
- Jurgen (8/5): -
- Warren (7/5): - The room was small but clean and was right above the pub so was a bit noisy as we had a really busy day.
The breakfast was excellent Room was a little small for the price

- vivienne (10/5): Excellent room/ food/staff. Highly recommend - We stayed at the pub in room 4 -lovely room very comfortable 4 poster bed . Great shower . We had dinner in the pub -lovely Kent rose wine -set menu is very good and food excellent -my husband said the burger and chips really good . Breakfast next morning as good as a 5 *hotel . Staff so attentive and friendly -highly recommend this place . there was also free parking at the back of the pub. nothing
- Joanne (10/5): Fabulous - Fabulous , booked for our Ruby Wedding anniversary. When we arrived they upgraded us to their biggest room with the Four Poster Bed. Room was gorgeous with everything we needed.
Stayed to Sunday Lunch which was amazing, as was breakfast the next day.
The staff were friendly and so helpful, really made us feel so special. Nothing
- Eleanor (10/5): -
- Lester (8/5): Really nice place, but disappointing road noise - The staff and the food were exceptional.
My room was very nice good Wi-Fi lovely breakfast evening meal was absolutely brilliant.
But I had a room on the front of the building and the road noise is absolutely terrible. If I was on the back of the building it may have been better. Some secondary glazing would be a must.
- david (10/5): Very nice! - Very welcoming staff, facilities excellent, would recommend. The room was a little small, though in fairness when I booked it I had the choice of the large or small room (for the same price) and as I was on my own I did tick 'small'. It was very nice though.
- Sinead (7/5): Lovely - Lovely pub and gorgeous food in a great location but a very snug cosy room, which would normally be fine but we had a baby too and so felt a little crammed in but for a couple, just perfect! Room was a little smaller than would have liked ordinarily
- Guemez (10/5): Vorrei tornare subito - Camera bellissima, se bene piccolina ma confortevole.
La collazione stupenda, molto completa e realizzata con cura Niente
- Verified traveler (10/5): Consigliato - Personale gentilissimo e disponibile ristorante ottimo.
- Sam (8/5): I would return just for the food! - The room was snug and may be difficult for some as the steps to the room were very steep, however there were other rooms in the property. The bed was so so comfy, shower snug but nice an powerful. The restaurant food for dinner and breakfast were - well nearly had my hubby crying as the chicken was delicious - as was my food. my only gripe - which they can't change - was the noise of the road traffic - sometimes trucks thundering past in the middle of the night - but the bed was so comfy
- Kate (10/5): Excellent - The breakfast Nothing
- Terry (10/5): Pre wedding preparation here, took lots of the stress off us and bent over backwards to help where possible. Highly reco - Lovely property, friendly and helpful staff.
Breakfast was delicious!
- Graeme (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isabel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeanette (7/5): Good -
- Wynter (10/5): Fabulous!! - Fabulous! A charming little hotel with great food and very accomodating staff.
- Vanessa (9/5): Lovely hotel in a beautiful village in the heart of Kent - a little gem - Situated in a pretty village the Dog makes a great base for exploring nearby attractions. Dinner was excellent although the portions could have been bigger considering the price. Breakfast was superb. Service was first class, all the staff were attentive, professional and very friendly. Dinner portions could have been bigger
- Pete (9/5): Superb - Everything was perfect and the breakfast was delicious
- Linda (9/5): Superb - The pub was very cosy and welcoming. The staff were brilliant. The stairs to our room were very steep and winding .
- James (10/5): Excellent stay at the dog, the food and the staff were absolutely fantastic. Will definitely stay again! - The staff and the food.
- David (10/5): Perfect - Perfect in every way, couldn’t ask for more really. Great place, great people 5*****
- adam (6/5): - Room too small
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Food The room was very small could hardly walk round the bed
- Malcolm (10/5): 2 night stay - Food was brilliant and the staff were very friendly and polite.
- Robert (10/5): Perfect - Amazing food great staff at Nothing
- James (10/5): Amazing food! Great location if you are visiting the zoo - The room was immaculate, and the bed was very comfy. The bathroom was also spotless. The staff where exceptionally polite and made us feel very welcome. The food was incredible, we had dinner and breakfast, the dinner was one of the best meals I have had in years, and I could not fault the breakfast at all. 10/10, we will stay again and I would definitely recommend to others. The room was small, we only stayed for a night so didn't have much with us and didn't spend much time in the room so wasn't a problem.
- Edwards (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanna (10/5): Perfectly fine for what we needed - Perfect location for visiting family. We were given an upgrade to our room, which was a lovely surprise. Nothing
- Marie (6/5): Pleasant - Food excellent Bed uncomfortable stairs steep to room
- Ridout (10/5): Lovely Pub in Wingham - lovely atmosphere, lovely staff. there wasn't anything to dislike
- Charlotte (9/5): A culinary gem tucked away in a lovely village - would recommend! - Easy access with a good rear car park. Lovely welcoming staff on arrival, large bar and a very comfy room. No road noise in the room, and had all the facilities required. The absolute stand out was the food - my dinner truly surpassed my expectations! Great, attentive service, a details menu and delicious food - excellent.
- Liam (7/5): Cosy and romantic - The location and restaurant The room was dirty and the room we had was very noisy from the kitchen and the room next to it
We spoke to staff and have received a free stay in a different room as compensation
- Wendy (7/5): Lovely place great staff but the room was disappointing - The food was delicious and the decor in all the public rooms was lovely The size of the room was ridiculously small hardly bigger than the small double bed When my husband is 6ft 6inches it was laughable
- Gordon (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (7/5): Nice pub with rooms but make sure it isn’t 1 or 2 - Lovely bar area The bedroom was pokey and the steep stairs unattractive, especially as noise from the bar was funnelled up them. The food was good but the menu limited.
- Laura (5/5): Nice but very small room - The bar and staff were lovely. The room was tiny, luckily we got ready at home and only needed to change in to our cloths and this was even a struggle, very disappointed in the room, however it was clean but the lack of space ruined it for us.
- Tom (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff, lots of character to the hotel/pub. Really lovely breakfast Rooms were a bit small/tight and the sliding door to the bathroom didn’t work very well
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Clean rooms, lovely staff, nice food Nothing
- Andrew (10/5): - Staff were really friendly, professional and efficient
Room price was a bargain with a great quality breakfast included
Definitely recommend
- Darryl (10/5): - Great room great food. Enjoyed the stay very much.
- Tosin (5/5): Passable -
- Natalie (10/5): Was an excellent stay, would return. - Nothing to fault. Had a great stay. £18 for a breakfast if not included is very steep
- Edwards (10/5): Exceptional - We have stayed at The Dog on several occasions when we visit family in the village.
The staff always look after us.
The hotel is clean and comfortable.
The rooms are quirky.
The food is delicious and not overpriced.
We were upgraded for this visit to the four poster room; which was lovely.
Thank you to all the team. Nothing
- Paula (10/5): Good night's sleep - Great pub with rooms in a lovely village.
Staff friendly.
Room had clean cotton sheets and big clean white towels.
Huge bed (room 8) and easy access to the garden.
Breakfast was delicious
- Koen (8/5): Very good -
- Waller (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (3/5): Squashed - Everything was fine apart from the room was uncomfortable due to its size. Felt the price was too high . Had to squeeze around the bed to move around Room size
- Bizzy_me (9/5): Superb -
- Marian (6/5): Friendly staff great location quaint building but small room - Location Size of room really small unable to fully close window
- Kevin (10/5): - Cosy comfortable room, good facilities and nice staff. Very satisfied all round.
- Ashley (10/5): 5 star food, 4 star comfort. - This hotel is housed in a beautiful, centuries old building with remarkable charm; you'll feel transported to medieval England in a very good way. However, the age of the building does come with some negatives; the stairs to my room (2) were quite steep, and the room itself was just big enough to house the king size bed within it.
Additionally, the walls are quite thin, so you'll hear activity from the restaurant below until about 11pm, and potentially later from adjacent rooms (I could clearly hear my neighbour snoring!).
None of this was an issue for me, as I sleep late and heavy, but I imagine it could be serious for some.
What made the trip worth it however was the food; oh the food! I travel for work and pleasure easily 50+ times a year, and I can honestly say that it's difficult to remember a time I've had better food than this. The chef(s) offer a perfect combination of rustic Britishness with European refinement, and powerful flavours to bring it all home. Honestly, even if the rest of my stay had been a 3 star experience, I would've returned again just 5o experience their culinary delights once more.
To briefly summarise; I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough to food lovers, but advise caution for light sleepers (though they do provide complimentary earplugs).
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Jenny (8/5): Had we have paid less I’d have thought it was a good start but for the price would expect a bigger room - Lovely pub with great decor downstairs and nice clean bedroom. Staff extremely helpful and welcoming. Decent breakfast! For the price we paid, bedroom was very small.
- Dominic (7/5): A charming place, from the building to those who work in it. - Staff very friendly and helpful, food was very tasty. The decor is nice, and the general feel is calm and relaxing. The value for money was difficult to see. We got placed in a very small room, which whilst nice, it was difficult to call this as good value for money. Same for the food, it was very tasty but I didn’t realise how upmarket it was price wise. The meat mains were £26+ each, and portions are smaller than you would expect.
- Paula (5/5): Passable - perfect location, breakfast included in room rate was delicious, with plenty of choice. Room was tiny, bathroom cold
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Kathryn (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent service and friendly staff. Great food and comfy quiet rooms Nothing
- Tanya (9/5): Highly recommended place to eat and stay - Beautiful old traditional pub. Lovely food and welcoming staff. It was a very hot day when I stayed and the bedroom was extremely warm at night and the fan just didn’t have enough of an impact. Not really something that could be improved without costly air conditioning.
- Vicky (10/5): Perfect hotel! -
- Frazer (8/5): Very good -
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Brid (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nick (10/5): - Lovely stay thank you
- Kim (9/5): Short and sweet - Room was perfect for us. Food and service was excellent Small car park meant I had to park elsewhere.
- Kenneth (7/5): Very good and welcoming - Food and cleanliness was very good Property needs some repairs carrying out to the windows
- Jessica (10/5): Lovely stay - Very friendly and helpful staff very polite every single one greets you with a smile! Nothing was a lovely stay made eveb better by all the lovely dogs in the bar
- Clare (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was tasty. Being a Yorkshire lad I was bemused at it all being piled on a piece of toast:)
- Stephen (10/5): Just brilliant - Wonderful staff and fantastic food Absolutely nothing
- William (9/5): Superb -
- Rhodri (8/5): Restaurant good - Restaurant very good - food is excellent. However if staying be aware that some of the rooms are tiny, and as such I think overpriced.
- Georgina (8/5): Overall very good. The room was the smallest ever but everything worked! - Staff were great. Very helpful No cup for coffee or spoon. No glass in the room. When travelling for business breakfast from 8 am is a challenge. I did have access to cereal, milk and juice. With a bit of forethought, info re being able to put lights on and maybe a yoghurt/fresh fruit in the fridge could have heen organised. The manager did offer to come in early to make coffee and toast - I said it was not necessary.
- Maxine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jamie (10/5): - Great food
Great Staff
- Laine (10/5): excellent customer service - great use of space with a warm & friendly atmosphere room was rather snug
- Sally (2/5): Access difficult and room size nowhere near adequate as a double. - Staff friendly and welcoming, room clean with comfortable beds Room should have been a single, way too small. Almost impossible to get in and out of the bathroom or round the bed. Access via ridiculously steep narrow, shallow stairs which we struggled with and were very worried by. Am amazed this was deemed safe by an inspector. If you're thinking of staying here, avoid rooms 1 & 2. I don't think there are any warnings about this. There were 3 of us in our 70s and the access was totally inappropriate for all of us.
We didn't eat at the hotel, the food looked good though.
- Peter (7/5): Good - The food and service was brilliant. The room was very small
- Tr (9/5): Superbly relaxing & comfortable welcoming environment to recharge. - Good location, easy to find, - basically just opposite the church, with good parking.
Smaller than average rooms but it is a piece of history, an historical building adapted to work & it does so just fine. Bed was superb, a rarity in hotels it seems. Good bar & (small) lounge area, very warm & homely with a good feel. Great open fireplace, not lit but a great feature for the winter I'm sure.
All staff were extremely welcoming, courteous & friendly.
Food excellent & well above pub food standards. Dinner portion on the smaller side but very well presented, adequate & crucially not too heavy.
If (like me) you don't have dogs & are worried about the dog friendly aspect, you needn't be, it's not an issue. The weather??!! but that's not under their control
- James (10/5): - Small room but very clean and well appointed. Excellent breakfast. Great staff.
- Barbara (10/5): Good - Breakfast was Excellent and service as well p It was Excellent not much more you could say
- Marion (10/5): Life @The Dog, Wingham. - Everything about The Dog was gorgeous. The breakfast, the people, the location was wonderful. I had a full English for breakfast because I just love black pudding and a fried slice. my husband had poached eggs with hollandaise sauce. yummy. Our room, although compact, was very tastefully designed and decorated, it had everything we needed. We had a lovely nightcap in the bar when we returned from our night out with family on boxing night, the ambiance was relaxed and friendly, the perfect end to a perfect stay. N/A
- Busfare (9/5): A very enjoyable short break - We both liked the food which was very well cooked and presented. Dinner was excellent but so were the breakfasts which were individually cooked and looked so much more appetising than the usual buffet breakfast. The first room we were offered was up some very steep stairs which I could not manage. The second room was much easier to access. It is obviously an old building with modern bedrooms fitted into a quirky first floor.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Maxine (9/5): Superb -
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional - We liked the staff went out of thier way to ensure our rooms were ready early. The breakfast wasn't to my taste, was a bit too fried.
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (10/5): comfy & very clean - room was so comfy. unfortunately we didn’t get to have a meal as we were attending a wedding but will definitely be making another stay and having some food! was so much the property, but taxis are an issues, wasn’t prepared for.
- Jon (9/5): Superb -
