It is very clean and good walking space for dogs.
Town has a few food options and great fish and chips.
Meet and greet efficient and we had lovely fresh linen and strong shower!

- Maree (10/5): - Older motel but new bathroom which was great. Room clean n tidy. Quiet aircon. Easy parking, easy to get to. Stayed 3 night n would definitely stay again.
- Terry (10/5): Pleasantly surprised - Clean, quiet, affordable accommodation. At first glance when you arrive the motel complex looks old/tired. But the units are clean and some upgrades (modern bathroom) have been done. Would definitely stay again.
- Laura (8/5): Happy to stay again - Met with a lovely friendly welcome and was especially grateful as was for 2 nights over the Xmas period. Spacious room with lovely bathroom. Loved the patio which was frequented by blackbirds and sparrow and we also saw a Pukeko each day.

Very comfortable beds, a great night's sleep.
A genuine, friendly, and professional prprietor.
The best of three motels we stayed this trip, and the least expensive.
- Diane (6/5): - Liked that it was quiet and had spacious parking at the door of the unit. The property is dated, and the outside areas are not well kept.

- DAVID (8/5): - unit a little dated, but was comfortable for 1 night
- Jamie (10/5): - Good little motel if you need to stay in the area. Easy parking and relatively quiet. Ōtaki township is just down the road and a BP is very close by if you need supplies.

- Voyager52154909955 (8/5): Well worth a stay - Very friendly, helpful and efficient hosts. Rooms are being modernised [bathroom is lovely] and are comfortable and surprisingly quiet considering the proximity of the highway. The garden view of trees and wildlife a pleasure. We would certainly stay there again.
- Brian (10/5): - Quiet, clean, spacious and comfortable unit. Well priced.
- Ann (10/5): Drive onto the ferry is 55 mins from otaki - I drive onto the interislander ferry from otaki 45-55 minute drive. Leaving early avoids traffic into Wellington and staying out of Wellington avoids hotel rates and car park fees. The bathroom is newly renovated— great water pressure! Tiny motel, one level, parking at the door. Great hosts. Great rate. What more do you need?
- Te Terenga (10/5): - Was a good and relaxing quiet wknd thanks
- Ann (10/5): I stay here often - The owners live on site. It’s little. It’s walk-in/park at door. It’s close to township. It’s walking to food— not hiking —walking!!!
It’s an hour from the ferry check-in.
- Alison (8/5): - It had a comfortable, well cared for feel nd a creative attention to detail -Eg plunger coffee packet leaning against plunger, towels and soaps. Staff were friendly and very obliging
- John (8/5): - Check in was quick and easy. The chap in reception was very knowledgeable about the local area and gave a good recommendation for dining.
They had turned the heating on so the room was lovely and toasty.
Room itself was old but clean and had all the necessities. A good powerful shower.
- Cindy (10/5): - We needed a place to stay the night as we traveled through. It is definitely dated but seemed cleaned, the staff was very friendly and accommodating and we got a good night's sleep!
- Ann (10/5): Lovely hosts - I’ve stayed six or seven times. Ōtaki breaks a long drive before driving onto the ferry. It’s spotlessly clean. The room rate is reasonable and this little motel has everything I could need. The patio opens onto a reserve.
- Ann (10/5): I’ve stayed many times - I’ve stayed many times and this wee motel is a good price. just the right distance from Wellington to make it really to drive straight onto the ferry the following day. Spotlessly clean. with a family of pukeko waiting for food if you like birds.
- Sally (8/5): - Friendly accomadating owners, tidy, clean unit. Would stay again. Thank you
- Doug (8/5): - Very pleasant and relaxing stay.
- Fiona (10/5): - Safe, quiet clean & comfortable

- Tuesa (10/5): - Great wee stop for the night. Room was clean and well maintained, and staff were friendly.
- Amila Sandaruwan (10/5): - Excellent service
- Ann (10/5): All I need!! - I always stay here and drive onto the ferry the next day. It’s perfectly positioned. Comfy, quiet and convenient.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Lovely hosts, clean and tidy units, comfy beds and excellent bathroom. Stayed one night after getting of the ferry. We were delayed by 4 hours and hosts were accommodating with us arriving very late. Room was warm and milk there for a much needed hot drink.
- Peter (6/5): - No smoke alarm, lights on the wall above bed too low with normal bulbs dangerous.
- Heather (8/5): - Very clean and comfortable. Great that it’s dog friendly. For us a perfect place to stop off on the way to the Picton ferry.
- sally (8/5): Good value motel - An older style motel, but it was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed for a nights stay. Good location after coming off the late afternoon ferry. Although we didn’t use it, the area outside our motel looked nice
- Ann (10/5): SKY movies a plus. -
Lovely welcome . Very quaint, lovely outdoor patio. Pukeko visited in the morning. room heated before my arrival. Nice to have a small stove. SKY movies a plus.
one hour drive from the ferry from Picton to Wellington ferry.
- Linda (10/5): - Very friendly well equiped very nice place to stay
- Eric (10/5): - Great location and staff go out of their way to assist you with what you require. Great communication. Thanks
- Jo (10/5): - Friendly and helpful management- really accommodating to my needs. Very very clean.
- Michelle (10/5): - Proximity to city centre was excellent only down fall was the traffic so close…
- David (6/5): - The property is what it is, a little old qnd past due for an upgrade.
It served our purpose to give us a nights rest to break up the journey between Chridtchurch qnd Auckland.
Was a little noisey with the state highwsy and main trunk line close by. It was what I expected for the price
- Stephen (10/5): Best ever motel - Best motel I have ever stayed in.
Friendly welcome, quick check-in, everything works.
Nice patio to sit in sun.
Comfortable bed.
All the Sky Channels.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Liked everything
- Adam (10/5): - Loved it - traditional motel, clean and friendly.
It is right on SH1 with the railway behind, but we had no noise issues.
- Ian (4/5): - Bedding smelt, as did the whole unit, peeling paint inside and outside of unit which had clearly not been swept of leaves/cig butts for some time, significant road noise at night from trucks/hoons. Elec jug had egg shells in it!
Convenient location and good shower.
Clearly this motel has not has any maintenance or upgrading for years.
- Gary (6/5): Rooms tired and a bit musty. - Rooms tired , dated and a bit musty.
Bathroom had been renovated and the really quite good.
Had resold our reservation as they were unable to contact us as we travelled to the venue but were able to resolve on our arrival
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and tidy. Not flash but very functional.
- 284beve (4/5): Disappointed - We thought somewhere quick to stay as on dusk and heading to ferry in morning. Right on main highway so very noisey but didn’t expect a noisey gas station behind us. Very tired motel certainly in need of tlc. Bed was “going down hill” one side. Shower window was rotting. Although it was clean on first look hadn’t been cleaned behind bed for some time and along carpet edges, needs a major refit.
- RosanaG1157 (8/5): old school quality motel - is a little tiered on the decour but very comfortable,Great little kitchen and very clean and tidy. easy access of the main road. very comfortable bed and great shower.sky tv and all over very pleasant stay
- Ann (10/5): Everything I needed. - Very convenient little family owned motel!! The heater was on and the lights which is u much appreciated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - fp
- DennisJ90 (6/5): Good value. - It cost $125 for 2 bedrooms, a lounge, a bathroom and a kitchen area. It was clean, the bed linen and the bed were good, and it had sky tv. It's so cheap because it is been around for a while and could do with a new paint job, and because SH1 is on one side and the railway on the other. But I slept well and I was impressed that when we arrived at 9.30pm the lights and heating were on in our unit.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s a little old fashioned, but the beds were nice and comfortable and the heat pump kept everyone warm.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I knew this was going to be a reasonably noisy stay as its on a main road - but the walls are paper this and the neighbour had his TV on all night. The room was roomy and clean, although very dated.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lots of road noise and one of the guests had a dog. Init was clean and tidy.
- Stay814399 (4/5): Interesting stay - Stayed for a wedding so needed room fit us all. Got called room had changed but we could still go. We went in got the key went into room to find people in there very embrassing Any way they had to move out as we needed the room to fit us in So we waited while we not the staff changed soap towels over. A lot of noise traffic and could do with a update. Roof was black mould suggest a paint job shower and beds okay. However we had to ask twice for bedding and a roll out bed as requested
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Roadside noise an issue but clean unit and pleasant staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice and clean, quick painless check in check out. Thank you for the stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The only disappointment was there was a strong cigarette smell around the room.
- Justin (6/5): Just OK - Very dated and tired Motel of another era.
Lots of road and train noise. Ok for a place to rest your head but not to rest and relax in
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Liked the space / size of rooms. Cleanliness and outdoor space as well. Lovely feel. Great service. Kids liked the trampoline.
- jimmandytravels (10/5): Fantastic people - very helpful - - Thank you Don, for your kindness and newspaper, Deanna and Richard. Very old fashion courtesy in this modern world.
Thank you Richard for your help with TV. All the best.
Good to spend a couple of days with someone with wheelchair.
All the very best to you all. See you.
- Robert (10/5): - Excellent, nothing to report
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable bed and nice outdoor seating options for a very hot day
- Cory (10/5): - Its close to the main road and railway track so it is a bit loud at night
- Shari (8/5): - It was very noisy.
- Geoff (6/5): - Handy to town and close to highway. Very clean and tidy - but somewhat dated. It wasn't expensive - so I'd say it was good value for money.
- John (8/5): Clean and comfortable but noisy - Otaki Motel is fine as a stopover because it is conveniently located on the main HWY but because of that I found the truck traffic noise and the train noise in the middle of the night to be a bit much
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Traffic and train noise. Needs double glazing .otherwis unit was good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent service and lovely people. The motel is clean tidy even though dated the service is exceptional
- 574englishc (10/5): Doggies welcome!!!!!! - Ok it’s not flash and nor would you expect it for the money, but o boy has everything you need including aircon.
Most of all our one family that normally gets a no was welcome, Poppy our little setter loved it, nice outside area to play and eat for all the family.
Thank you for making all our family welcome, will remember when we next travels and recommend to others.
Honestly gr8 value for money, let’s face it , it’s only to get your head down for the night.
- GrayMcGowan (8/5): Would return - It was on the main road (SH1) with trucks on one side and the main trunk railway on the other, but it was ok. Sure, I could hear noise, but it didn't detract from an otherwise pleasant night's stay.
The room was warm, comfortable and with every amenity I would ever want for such a short stay, so yes, I would return.
- patenap (8/5): Clean bright and comfortable - This motel does not inspire from the outside but inside everything is clean and bright with up to date facilities including free WiFi and Sky Sports. The shower was just wonderful. Would definately stay here again to break the journey.
- marsh21 (6/5): Clean and comfortable but too close to SH1 - The Motel room was very clean, and the shower was great. The room and bed were comfortable, and the staff were pleasant.
The interior of the rooms looks like it is from the 1950s or 1960s, but is in good condition.
Our main issue is the proximity to State Highway One. It was only about 30 metres from our room to the road edge. Heavy trucks could be heard easily inside the room, even with all doors and windows shut. The room was good value, but I would look for something further away from traffic noise next time.
- SMPG (8/5): helpful owner - This was a one night stay. The motel is dated, a bit of a time warp BUT our room was clean ,comfortable and had everything we needed including wi-fi . Comfortable bed, a place to eat our breakfast outside in the sun and the shower was great!.
The owner was very helpful suggesting we walk along the beach and see the sunset in the evening and providing suggestions of places to visit the following day when we had time to spare before the ferry in Wellington.
Great value.
- 989bruces (6/5): Friendly hosts - This is a small (4 units) family run motel set right off the highway in Otaki. Definitely older, but the rooms were clean & comfortable and partially renovated. Our unit had a completely new & modern bathroom. Nice little seating area on the patio overlooking the garden.
Only drawback was the proximity to the highway - the darn trucks seem to run all night!!
However this was made up for with the friendliness of the owners. Super accommodating. Had a late check out while we caught up with some laundry in their facilities - they even moved clothes from washer to drier fo us. No charge of course.
- stevew262 (10/5): Nice stop on journey through - Traveling between Taupo and Wellington, stayed one night here. Located on the highway at the entrance to the town with easy access to shops an a really wondered Indian restaurants.
Parking was right in front of the room with plenty of space. Lovely outlook to a large open grased paddock. Room had a bathroom, kitchenet and covered veranda.
Queen bed was very comfortable. Facilities were all there and worked well, like large screen TV, Sky, radio, stove, etc.
Hot shower pressure was good and clean. Noise level was just OK given close proximity to main road and commuter train line. Very friendly and helpful owner.
Overall a good stay and would be glad to return if in this area again.
- Biddynz1 (10/5): Super clean. - All you need is here. The bed is very comfortable. Close to shops. Level of cleanliness is extremely high. Staff were very friendly and let us check in early. sky TV and free WIFI. Highly recommend this motel.
- BerniceK81 (10/5): Orsome shower, clean, brilliant bed just loved all round. - A++++ would recommend to all that need a place to lay there heads for the night friendly people. Had a orsome sleep would've liked to have taken bed home with me lol if your heading to Wellington at any time that's the place to stay.
- jacquid250 (10/5): Fantastic motel! - Absolutely perfect! Had everything we needed. Wonderfully comfortable beds. No traffic noise. Friendly staff. Good Wifi. Great shower and facilities. Very Handy location. We Would definitely stay here again!!!
