Bennie (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay in the cozy cabin at Canyon Lake Resort. We were able to cook the fish we caught right outside and enjoy our supper in the nice outside area by our cabin. It was very quiet and relaxing.
Lisa (4/5): - Calling this property a "resort" is a stretch. There is a very small pool, a basketball court and two fire pits. The cabins are close together so not much privacy if you're outside. Upon opening the door to our small cabin we were greeted with an unpleasant old/musty odor. A friend who lives in Rapid City brought us a diffuser to try to mask the smell. There has been some remodeling done in the cabin living space but the kitchenette is original and the bedroom carpet was matted, crusty and gross. The windows and window sills were dirty. The beds were firm but ok to sleep on. Pros: Check in/check out was easy but I never saw the office open. It's located next to a park with a beautiful lake. The two fire pit areas were nice. In closing, when I made the reservation for Canyon Lake Resort I thought I was booking the adjoining property called Lake Park Campgrounds and Cabins. I've stayed there before and it's an upgrade. Lesson learned! I won't be making that mistake again!

Susan (4/5): - I got a reservation for a nice room in the Lodge, but the Lodge is now closed and instead I got a very dated cabin nearby. I was disappointed they did not inform me that the Lodge was closed so that I could make alternate accommodations.
Debbie (8/5): - The motel room we stayed in was dated and the bed was really uncomfortable, however, the sweet lady at the front desk was so apologetic and kind. Her friendly personality and help with this matter made it a positive experience and I would recommend them.

Sydney (8/5): Peaceful, clean, and comfortable! - A great place to stop. Our room was easy to find, and was scrupulously clean. The resort has age, which shows in the little things such as some desilvering in the mirrors and some outdated decor. However the place was kept very tidy and appears well maintained. We were pleasantly surprised with the kitchenette in our room. The A/C worked great and the resort has many complementary amenities such as a fire pit (wood provided) and paddle boats. The area is quiet and peaceful. We had no issues during our stay and would gladly return.

Room stunk of muskiness, rug needs a shampoo, bath needs a reno, no fan in bath. A/c didn’t work properly & it was hot that day/night. I really expected a decent stay but online rep was misleading. Was glad to leave & glad only booked 1 night. I’d never rec it to anyone. We loved SD tho,, do visit it, but stay elsewhere, it was no bargain either, lesson learned.

The motel lacked amenities you might find at a hotel, particularly regarding walkable restaurants or coffee shops, but those were only a drive away.

The ducks, the geese, the herons and the woodpeckers really add to the aesthetics of the lake property. Will be back definitely, management was incredibly friendly and helpful. Keith (10/5): Pleasant setting - It's not the Waldorf Astoria but that wasn't the intent. If you're looking for a clean friendly stay in a beautifully walkable setting this is it. Apart from the somewhat dated accomodations (hey, it was a tad rustic but it evoked pleasant feelings of nostalgia for this 60-something boomer) I couldn't have asked for a quiter room nestled on the shore of a beautiful lake (well, reservoir) and park. Plus we had the added benefit of being there outside of the tourist season. I'll be back.

Jason (4/5): Motel style rooms are severely lacking. - This is regarding the Motel Style rooms, not cabins. They feel old and are grimmy. The walls are thin, and you can hear everything, that means the baby next door to the family rearranging chairs to get comfy to the young couple next door, if you know what I mean. Also, everything is dated and old. The toilet was loud when flushed, and for some reason, there was a hot water heater in our room that ran every time anyone around us used water. The fridge and freezer were easily from the 1970s, and overall, it seems like a cheap motel, not some place you want to take your family for a weekend away.

There was an ice cream truck in the parking lot. Wish that we could've stayed longer. There is so much to do in Rapid and all around it as well. We will definitely be back!

Now after moving away, and having not being able to stay with family, we needed a new place to gather. What an amazing facility the resort is! They have everything you need for a largebor small gathering. The availability of the lodge, or cabins was perfect for a reunion/95th birthday party for 40 people! I cannot recommend Canyon Lake resort enough!

Jen (2/5): - Definitely would not recommend this property. Arrived around 8 pm and my room key was just taped to the door of the office where anyone could have taken it. The shower leaked so bad it shot onto the ceiling and then the water from the ceiling dripped down onto you. It smelled stale, damp, and musty inside the room. There was a bug in the bed. The mattress was old, squeaky, and uncomfortable. The pillows were flat. The room furniture stepped straight out of the 70's. The laundry area was open from 8 am to 8 pm. I needed this anemity as I was traveling and it was one of the few reasons I booked the location. Unfortunately, it wasn't open at 8, or at 9. I finally found and employee and they said only maintenance had the key and it would be a "couple hours" before they would be back to open it. On checkout, the receptionist was very condescending regarding my booking through Expedia. Overall, it was a terrible location and experience that I would not book again. I was too worried about the possibility of bed bugs and crackheads to actually enjoy my downtime in the evenings, instead sleeping with my loaded gun by my bedside and triple checking the locks.

There was one cabin available, next to the office, and next to the reunion tent, so we expected noise, but even with plenty of people around, it was quiet. Cabin was clean and very comfortable. We took paddle boat out in evening and enjoyed the water and all the birds. Staff was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay again, and would highly recommend!

The room was small but it had everything, kitchen table, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, stove top, dishes. A great shower and tub. The bed was comfortable and the cable tv channels were too many to count. The people in the office were super friendly and accommodating. We were only staying for one night but would have loved a week.

Erica (10/5): - Staying at Canyon Lake Resort during a trip in November met my needs exactly. The room was clean and quiet, and the staff were helpful and friendly. It is also a beautiful and unique location, situated within sight and walking distance of walking trails, the lake, and a park, all of which gave an added bonus of wildlife viewing opportunities! I would absolutely stay here again.
