Guest Reviews
- Jonathan (8/5): - The place is under new management who offered a warm welcome, a clean room, done up the place as best they could. The place still has a few issues from being taken over eg shower not draining well and a new mattress due but the new team are trying hard to make a go of it and are trying to make good.
- Charles (6/5): - 👍
- Bryan (6/5): - No breakfast available. We booked a “small” room but it was smaller than expected. Bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen. .
- Tayla (6/5): Basic but clean - good for the price, has everything you need for a night
- John (10/5): - Great hosts, comfortable rooms and a lovely breakfast
- Sarah (10/5): - The landlord and landlady are so helpful and lovely our room was clean and the bathroom clean also great shower great place to stay especially if you are visiting newton abbot race course. Thankyou so much to the landlord and landlady
- Simon (8/5): Good stay! - Good for business
- Ron (10/5): - Shaun and Teresa were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. In fact fine hosts. And would recommend it. Wish we could have stayed longer, and intend to return.
- Frances (2/5): False advertising - We arrived at 15 30 to be told the room was being cleaned , as no staff. The website said check in was from14.00.Very annoying as we needed to get ready and was being picked up for a party. The room was clean very basic. The price I paid on your site included breakfast, booked on 20th May.There was no breakfast, when I asked what time it was served I was told we do not do breakfast. There was a sign outside my room stating the time breakfast was served.I feel I was sold something I did not receive and should be refunded.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not of worthy of 3 star status. - Hotel surrounded by scaffolding.
Loud music at 3.30 and 4.30am.
Shower drain blocked.
Breakfast was poor. No fruit or yogurt.
Toast burnt or not cooked at all.
In mitigation, the landlord's wife had left him and he couldn't cope.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great B&B - Great pub B&B great value with very friendly service
- Julie (10/5): - Always fancied booking a room at a pub -( Possibly being from Canada and watching Corrie St & Eastenders gave me the notion ) and let me tell you I was not one bit disappointed with the Keyberry! In fact even booked it twice! Theresa & Sean are the best of hosts and they made me feel quite at home. Would not hesitate to book there again!
- John (6/5): - I paid Expedia for breakfast but the property is being renovated and the kitchen was out of order. There was also no parking when we arrived as scaffolding was being erected outside the hotel. Otherwise the stay was ok.
- g (6/5): Rustic - Nice soft carpet in the room. I think that's the most positive thing I can offer... and a good takeaway recommended by the landlord.
- Glenn (10/5): - The staff were great, very hospitable and the room was spotless can’t fault anything and the bar has a great atmosphere 👍👍👍
- Jim (10/5): Clean, comfortable accommodation with lovely hosts - Spacious, clean and welcoming. Good breakfasts, 10 min walk into town.
- Martin (10/5): - Our stay here was truely wonderful. The pub and family atmosphere combined with a huge breakfast to start the day was great . The owners Shaun and his wife made the weekend truely memorable. They could not do enough to make our stay really special. Thank you both from the Thornton family.
- Maria (10/5): - Very clean, very comfortable
- J (4/5): Okay stay - welcoming hosts - The hotel/ pub has not long been taken over by a lovely couple who are very hospitable and welcoming. The couple are in the process of upgrading the furnishings/paintwork but this is a basic hotel/ pub geared towards workmen.
- Lesley (6/5): - There is a lot to do at this property it’s dated and lots of furniture ect outside should be looked at the room was clean and was okay for me it wouldn’t suit disabled as about 12 steep steps breakfast was good landlady very kind they had only been there 6 weeks but am sure it will be brought up to speed
- William (10/5): - Lovely friendly staff and room was absolutely perfect
- Michael (8/5): - Clean and warm but no frills. If you don't want a full English breakfast inform the proprietor in advance, otherwise that's what you'll get. Not a suitable hotel for vegetarians or vegans.
- Jonathan (8/5): - Enjoyed my stay. Rob (proprietor) was very friendly and helpful.
- Paniz (10/5): - Very cosy and staff are very friendly
- Verified traveler (10/5): A lovely stay - A lovely stay at the Keyberry. A friendly pub with rooms outside. Room was nice and the full information was given of how to enter and leave. Had a breakfast included which was lovely.
- Nick (8/5): No frills overnight work stay - No frills pub, basic facilities . Shower , bed and wifi ok with parking . Ticks all the boxes for a simple overnight stay of working away .
Landlord , nice chap, good beer, limited food available . 👍
- Karen (8/5): - Second time staying at the Keyberry. Under new management now Rob was a great host. Really friendly and nothing a bother. Would recommend as a great base for exploring the area. Close to the moors and the seaside, Buckfast Abbey and not too far from Exeter. Enjoyed my stay.
- Geoffrey (8/5): - Very comfy bed. Bathroom all looked newly installed. New TV & kettle, obviously money has been spent in the property. Nice cooked English breakfast served with a smile by the owner.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The place was basic and clean. The manager was great. The cold tap in the bathroom didn't work properly and the toilet wasn't great. The green emergency lighting INSIDE the bedroom wasn't conducive to sleep. This wasn't an intermittent fire alarm light, but a full on green lightbulb which was on 24/7.
- robert (4/5): - i think the property is providing a service for workers not holiday/visitors.ie.breakfast is only served from 7-30 till 8-45 we arrived in the dinning room at 8-50 and was told the kitchen was closed.
- David (8/5): - Good breakfast.
- David (10/5): - Will use again
- Terence (10/5): - Quiet, comfortable stay. Good find! Thank you!
- Dena (10/5): - Clean, quiet, friendly hotel that is easily walkable from the station. Nice cooked breakfast and a decent Shipyard IPA on the bar.
- Emma (10/5): Friendly, basic but very clean - Really friendly people, rooms were nice and clean. Would stay again. Only thing, is i had to leave early for work and there was no where to deposit the keys. So i had to leave them in the room
- Seth (8/5): - The owner was really helpful in letting us do our bags off early and giving us the key to come back late at night.
The decor is very dated and the place is in the middle of suburbia but it served us well.
A little disappointed with breakfast after reading such good reviews but it wasn't bad.
- John (10/5): - Very convenient and perfect for our needs. Staff happy to please.
- Peter (10/5): - Paul the manager was very friendly he also phoned before i arrived at hotel.
Rooms where clean and spacious.
I had a double and single in mine which were very comfortable also had a ceiling fan which came in very handy.
Breakfast was plentiful and delicious.
Would i stay again definitely.
Thank you Paul for a great stay.
- danial (10/5): - Great price nice and quiet and a bar for a beer at the end of a long day
- Jan (6/5): - Good value for money
- Kim (8/5): - Enjoyed my stay and service was good. only improvement would be to dim the emergency exit light as this kept waking me and i had to sleep in odd position to keep it out of eyesight.
- Edward (10/5): Great stay - Great stay at The Keyberry, Rob the manager was very friendly and helpful. Large room, good breakfast. Will definitely stay again when we visit Newton Abbot
- Verified traveler (4/5): 2 nights stay for work - The hotel room was clean and the bed was comfortable, the shower was good clean with hot water. I stayed here for two nights as i was working on business at Newton Abbot, on the advertisement it says iron and ironing board on request, i went downstairs to the bar area and had to ask the owner for an iron and ironing board in front of all the other customers in the bar area, when i walked in it seemed i had walked into a scene out of a western (stranger in town just walked in) they all stopped went quiet and listened, the owner responded sarcastically and said he didn't have an iron, i replied and said it says on yhe advertisement, he replied and said have you ever heard of a travel iron? So at that point i went back to my room. I had to go to a local supermarket and buy a cheap iron as i needed an ironed shirt for work the next day. On the first night it was very noisy up until 10pm loud music and i could hear the bar customers bantering, though i was glad it stopped at 10pm. The second night was a nightmare as there was a woman staying at the hotel who was in and out of her room all night, she kept slamming the doors, had no consideration for others and outside my room there was a smoking patio, and she was mainly there literally throughout the night smoking and arguing with someone on the phone. I would never return here it wasn't for me.
- Arthur (10/5): - Rob the landlord was very friendly ,welcoming and nothing to much trouble for him, room was very comfortable and clean , and one of the best nights sleep we’ve had in ages . It was very quiet considering it was above a pub , facilities in the room were very good , hairdryer ect, and a fridge outside the hallway to put anything you wanted . Very good breakfast cooked by Rob delicious to , plenty of coffee tea ect
- Cris (10/5): - Rob the proprietor is amazing. He went all out to make my stay as good as possible! Bless him
- Vasiliki (4/5): - Not even basic
- Darren (10/5): Basic but comfortable - Quite a basic room but comfortable and clean. Landlord very accomodating providing me with a sandwich for my breakfast as I had to leave early.
- David (8/5): - Nice friendly staff, breakfast was fine, room was fit for purpose, large bathroom with good shower
- Juliet (8/5): - Cheap & cheerful, no great expectations for the price. Breakfast was good quality ingredients & the veggie breakfast was great.
Only complaint which we mentioned to the new owner was the extraction for the kitchen was directly outside our room. He said he would be more mindful in the future.
- T (10/5): No grumbles, I enjoyed my brief stay here. - This was actually a room above a pub. It's a small hotel (5 or 6 rooms in all) and had recently changed hands. The landlord was very welcoming and did an excellent full English breakfast included in the price. 'the hotel itself is on the outskirts of Newton Abbott, a 15 minute walk from the railway station and maybe a mile from the town centre. The room was very comfortable and surprisingly big, although it was baking hot when I stayed due to the weather and the sun pouring in through the window in the afternoon so could have done with a fan in it. There was an en-suite shower and loo. It was also surprisingly quiet considering it was above a pub (i slept like a log). Considering how much I paid for the room for one night I felt it was good value for money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Overnight stay, very friendly people, would definitely recommend and even use again
- Vicky (10/5): - Lovely stay, owners were so accommodating at all times.
- Emma (10/5): - Landlady lovely. Room basic, clean and tidy. Stunning breakfast. Excellent customer service. All good 👍😊
- Richard (6/5): bed for the night - It was a bed for the night, it was clean and comfortable, no frills
- Zoe (10/5): Looking forward to staying again - everyone there was very nice, lucky enough to be able to wish the landlady a very happy birthday! Staff were very pleasant, locals friendly and the Landlady cooks an amazing breakfast! Also were very happy to accomodate a slightly later leaving time as the meeting I had to be at the next day was only 5 minutes down the road.
- Garry (8/5): - a lovely and friendly place to stay with a delicious breakfast and just a short walk to the railway station
- Joanne (10/5): - Perfect stay
- David (10/5): - Lynn was very friendly and made us feel at home.
Rooms are above a pub but quiet.
- Samuel (10/5): - I stayed on my own and was made most welcome. Really friendly a good place to stay in Newton Abbot
- Aaron (10/5): - Very pleasant could not ask for better hosts nothing too much trouble.
- Noel (10/5): Great place for a stopover - Host was very friendly nice quick check in large room and en suite which was clean
Good fried breakfast included in the price and free off street parking
- Larry (10/5): Excellent value for money - Everything was A1. Will defo rebook on our next trip to the races
- James (10/5): - We had a pleasant stay
- Sean (10/5): Great staff - Met by landlady show straight to the room great breakfast
- colin (10/5): - Really nice hoasts, couldn’t be more helpful
- Miss A (10/5): Lovely - Stayed for 4 nights, room was very clean and also the en suite, the en suite attached for our room was huge! Hosts were very welcoming and breakfast every morning was cooked fresh, lovely and were very accommodating with choices. If youre ever in the area this is a perfect place to stay, definitely worth it! We were above a pub so expected noise especially as it was a bank holiday weekend but it wasnt noisy at all. We were told there was a party on one of the nights and so might be louder than normal but this didnt affect our stay and stopped at a reasonable time, had a laugh too as could hear karaoke. The station was only a short walk and so had a day at torquay, supermarkets are close by too. Overall a perfect place to stay
- Alison (10/5): - Thoroughly all round enjoyable. Only stayed couple of nights sadly . Looking forward to next stay .
- Andrew (8/5): - The owners are lovely and welcoming. The place isnt the Ritz but its in a nice area and the rooms are well equipped. Breakfast cooked to order, delicious.
- Malcolm (10/5): - I found this hotel to be perfect for a bed and breakfast stay.
Everything was clean and tidy and the management very accommodating
- Richard (8/5): - The hotel is in fact a pub with rooms.Nice cooked breakfast but no evening meal but I was provided with a lot of takeaway menus and chose a local Chinese which delivered and was very nice. The owner and staff were excellent in the way I was looked after and I enjoyed a nice pint in the pub lounge bar with a roaring log fire before my meal arrived At £50 for bed and breakfast it was a snip even if there weren’t the usual hotel niceties. I would certainly stay there again if I needed to be in Newton Abbott overnight.
- Carol (10/5): One night of real comfort. - Straightfoward on arrival. Able to check in early. Wonderful porridge for breakfasts. Hosts friendly but not overly fussy which I appreciated as was up early on day of departure. Quiet at night. Bed comfortable. Room lovely and warm. Very good bathroom.
- Rebecca (10/5): Cheerful, clean and comfy - Quick check in, comfy bed and clean room. Friendly staff and fresh breakfast in the morning. Lovely find.

The bar was lovely and friendly locals.
The breakfast was lovely. Lynn and Dave were really nice
- norman a (6/5): - Beds in accommodation need upgrading , to small to be classed as superior and mattress small and hard
- David Earl (10/5): - Loved the host. Really nice people. The room was spacious and was above a pub so we had plenty of options on where to relax. Location was a short walk into down town so very convenient.
- David (2/5): - Very friendly people
- Norman (8/5): - Pub with rooms. Was ok for one night. Parking on site was limited. Room ok but bed a bit firm.

- Miss Z (10/5): A wonderful Stay - We had a really lovely stay at The Keyberry, very friendly and helpful staff. The room was easy to access, spacious, and very clean. Everything we needed was available to us during our stay. A lovely quiet environment that felt homely and comfortable. We both enjoyed the breakfast served, we would highly recommend staying at the Keyberry and will hopefully be back again in the future.

Will be back when working in the area again..

- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was very clean and the owner made us very welcome it was close to family which was the reason for our visit
- Kim (10/5): Friendly hotel - Friendly place with the owners making sure everyone feels welcome. Room was spotlessly clean if a little dated but was fine for my overnight stay. Free wi fi in the room along with tea and coffee. Free on street parking if the spaces at the hotel are taken. Very nice breakfast.
- Riccardo (10/5): - Nice comfortable stay.
- Andrew (10/5): - Stayed for three nights and the people couldn't have been more welcoming.
great place to stay, I hope I work near there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice friendly Hotel in a handy urban location for Newton Abbot and the local area. Very close to all major road route and the Train Station a 10min walk away. Hosts were very welcoming, polite, professional and helpful. Our room was spotless clean, large simply furnished and warm with an en-suite. Plus the usual tea/coffee/milk, TV and comfy king size bed. Proprietors had done a good job with the Pandemic-Covid measures with clean hand sanitisers in the corridors, fresh tissues in the room and general pandemic info as well. We were up for the Dartmoor Classic Cycle Sportif, so handy on site free parking just outside the hotel which seemed secure with bikes stored in our car. Will book again for sure. Thanks for a good stay.
