Guest Reviews
- mikepD284BJ (2/5): This resort is a scam. - This resort runs a scam where they convince you to join their membership. The contract clearly states that they can change the terms whenever they want. So, for $7000 all we got was a discount. No stays, No free weeks. Just a discount on future bookings. Literally nothing they said they were selling us.
- WelshFoodiee (2/5): THIS PLACE NEEDS CLOSING, DO NOT BOOK. - We were sold a 5-star luxury holiday experience and paid over £5,000 for 7 nights for what we expected to be an exceptional standard of service and accommodation. Unfortunately, what we received was far from acceptable and fell drastically short of the advertised experience — in fact, at times, it was outright distressing.
Upon arrival, we were immediately taken aback by the demand for a $200 security deposit. In all our years of staying at high-end, long-haul resorts, we have never encountered such a request. This raised serious concerns about the type of issues the hotel regularly anticipates from its guests — and sadly, those concerns were soon justified.
Our bags were kindly taken to the room, and while the initial impression was passable, closer inspection revealed several alarming problems:
* The room was dated and poorly maintained.
* There was black mould around the bath seals.
* Rust was visible on door handles and inside cupboards.
* The entire room smelled damp and musty.
* Most shockingly, we discovered cockroaches in the room — which is completely unacceptable and raises serious questions about the hygiene and pest control measures at the property.
These were not isolated issues. We spoke to around 50 other guests, many of whom reported the exact same problems with their rooms — all of which should never happen at a resort claiming to be luxury.
When we raised our concerns, we were told no alternative rooms were available. As I began getting ready for the evening, I noticed that my brand-new trousers were bleach-stained, clearly due to contact with a surface in the room. I reported this immediately to reception and was sent to Guest Services, where my details were taken. I wasn’t contacted again until 2–3 days later. It was only when a TUI rep noticed my frustration that a formal record was created.
Had we brought our children — as we nearly did — I can’t imagine how unsafe and uncomfortable this holiday would have been for them. The room conditions alone posed a genuine health risk.
The restaurants also fell drastically short of expectations:
* The West Indies restaurant was underwhelming.
* The steakhouse experience was appalling. Staff ignored guests and sat openly using their mobile phones. When I challenged them, it led to a direct argument — unacceptable at any hotel, let alone a supposed 5-star resort.
* For the pre-wedding dinner, half the guests were refused entry due to a booking error between the butler and restaurant staff. After much back-and-forth with management, we were finally allowed in — but split up across the restaurant, ruining what should have been a special occasion for our friends.
The food was disgraceful: frozen steaks thrown straight onto the grill, lumpy and cold mashed potato, and completely flavourless sides. We were visibly able to see into the kitchen — it was shocking.
On the day of the wedding, we couldn’t get through to room service — no one answered the phones, and the app was completely unresponsive. Again, this is not remotely acceptable for a premium hotel. No drinks or refreshments offered to the bride throughout the morning.
Rainy days had absolutely no backup plan from the hotel — no indoor events, no communication, no effort made to accommodate guests.
Worse still, the hygiene around the resort was abysmal. At the beach bars, we saw staff "clean" cups by simply dunking them in a dirty container of water — no soap or proper sanitising. The bar areas were filthy and clearly not wiped down with any regularity.
As a result of these shocking conditions, many guests — including my husband — became unwell. He suffered severe sickness and was bedridden for three days. Others experienced throat infections and stomach-related illnesses, which we firmly believe were linked to the lack of cleanliness and poor food hygiene.
The staff overall were rude, dismissive and not helpful. They couldn’t care less and would actively gossip and slag you off to their colleagues right in front of you. It was disgusting.
In summary, this experience was distressing, unsanitary, and absolutely not the luxury holiday we were promised. The presence of cockroaches, ruined clothing, appalling food, and health risks are completely unacceptable under any circumstance — let alone from a holiday costing over £5,000.
I formally requested a full investigation into this matter and appropriate compensation for the physical, emotional, and financial impact this trip has had on us.
- bobdobilina (2/5): Please read this review if you are traveling there before August - We are booked for the Royalton Negril from March 24-31. The booking was made in early September 2015.
I was just doing some googling on the resort and found some articles on travel websites that they are closed until August 2026. There is nothing on their website. The most recently posted on their website in December 2025 to come enjoy their splash pad. We have received no contact that our booking is canceled. We were on course to turning up on March 24th to find a closed hotel!
I first used reddit to find out that indeed folks thought the hotel was closed. I then spoke to their reservation desk. At first they said they had no information that the hotel was closed, but after a wait confirmed that it is indeed closed until August. They said we were not informed because we booked through a third party.
Obviously the hurricane was not their fault and was a horrible thing to happen. But to not let folks know they are not open, that their reservation is cancelled, to keep on posting on social media and not let their own reservations desk no is just shocking.
- sss201 (2/5): NOT a 5 star resort. - This was my fifth stay at an all-inclusive resort, my second in Jamaica. I’m very forgiving when it comes to minor things at the resort such as air-conditioning not working, bugs, issues with rooms, etc. So for me to leave a one star review says a lot.
This hotel cost us almost $500 Canadian per night. It’s not worth half of that.
Only one restaurant was open per day. And their menu options were very limited.
Half of the hotel was under renovation so room requests weren’t being honored.
The food at the buffet was terrible. They had the same food every day, and what they had out for supper one night would be out at breakfast the next day. I also have a food allergy and they insisted on making me special food - which I would stand around the buffet for 45mins waiting for every meal. By the time I got my food, the rest of my family was ready to leave the buffet.
They ran out of supplies to make drinks at the bars every single day, specifically the juice mixes, fresh fruit and slush. So if you want fruity tropical drinks you won’t get them here reliably.
The jerk hut at the pool ran out of food very quickly every day. If you were at the end of the line, you weren’t getting fed.
Don’t depend on the golf carts to get you around, because there aren’t very many and they’re usually parked with no staff around them.
The entertainment was mediocre at best.
Don’t expect the front desk staff to help you with anything, they are very rude and not accommodating.
I will say that the resort was clean, and so were the rooms. We went during off-season so we were able to get seats at the pool easily. We rented a cabana one day and had phenomenal service - it was the best day of our entire trip.
This may have been a five star resort once upon a time, but it must definitely is not anymore. If you’re looking for a four/five star stay, you won’t get it here.
- GrandTour01809635904 (4/5): Avoid at all cost - Rude staff and my butler Damion Dixon was the worst person ever. Customer service was awful. I Do not recommend this resort.
- louiserE2016BT (8/5): Relaxing hotel in pretty spot - Been here 3 times now . On the whole a great hotel with lots of evening atmosphere.. the bars are a pretty lively scene not like your usual quiet Tui it’s more like an ordinary bar / club . One night they did a wear white silent disco outside and they really went to town they had girls dancing in hoops on pillars and djs who thought they were in London! But it all is quite tame and quiets down I think around 12 . The days are very relaxing by the pool or by the sea. The pool does have some competitions going on so I tended to go to a quiet spot by beach. Bar service varied greatly .. by the pool it was very poor .. infact in fact I felt the waitress didn’t like me as she practically threw the drinks at me but in contrast the evening bar staff were amazing and very happy showing off their cocktail skills and even remembering your drink choice!
The place is very clean and generally staff are happy and keen to help. I don’t know how they faired with the storm and I do hope they get bk to normal if they were effected.
I would say that you can’t easily see the infamous Negril sunset from this hotel as they have allowed building that stops it. If that is what you are after I would recommend going to hotel around the corner I think it’s now a Karissma Azul hotel it used to be the Tui Sensatori . This is much quieter place if that’s what you are after!
- Howard (4/5): For the price paid it was not as satisfying as I anticipated, being an Iberostar Grand Guest. - The Hideaway Breakfast could be more exclusive in the availability of items. The Bathroom had one basin in the passage and no Bath tub, Jacuzzi or otherwise.
There was no bedside Mat. There was not a good selection of Towels.
- 239iyaj (2/5): Dont come here - Dont go here. Water was hard to find . I had to go to the front desk often for water because the gellato / ice cream shop had none. Restaurants were hard to book we were subject to eating buffet( food was not good)... we got locked out of pur room and safe. We were approached on the beach for spa services- needing to change appointment, but they refused we were charged full price for services not rendered. This place was a drunken mess!!! The shower in our room flickered the whole time we showered during our stay - the water was weak and sewage was girgiling on the right sink .. alcohol was only served on the beach no water available..we did I excursion and one of the workers on the boat was portraying himself as horney he was humping poles and being very nasty with some woman. There is a full on nude beach next to negril beach. It was uncomfortable to see penisis and vaginas sprung up as legs straddled the lounge bed. The locals are very pushy so dont walk alone. I can best describe Jamaica Negril as HEDONISM. I will never come back !!!!
- Omer22 (10/5): Great trip! - This was our first time in Jamaica and loved it! Resort is a bit of a drive from the airport but we booked a private transfer- very comfortable drive. Resort grounds are gorgeous- service can be a bit spotty especially at coffee shop and restaurants. Beautiful lobby, great entertainment. Would highly recommend!
- lematthews3 (2/5): Do not go here - We vacationed at the Royalton Negril in October, pre hurricane, on the Diamond Club side. We only came to this resort because a group of friends wanted to come here and weren’t listening to our worries about the reviews we had seen about the resort. So we came with hopes we would be proven wrong, but we were only even more affirmed in our original stance. The review below will be choppy and the grammar won’t be perfect, but I have no desire to perfect this as this resort isn’t worth any more of my time.
Zen Restaurant:
Very plain presentation, nothing special about the entrees. The appetizers were good, but extremely small portions and the tiniest sushi I’ve ever seen. No gyoza, fried ice cream, or coconut brûlée (all of which we wanted to order). The waitress wasn’t happy to serve us either, even from the very beginning. We were told “no” or “we don’t have that here” to things a lot, mainly for the bar and the options we wanted to drink. Had to sit our party of 8 as 4 and 4, but not a deal breaker.
Calypso Restaurant:
Right next to the live band at the bar outside and no one at our table could talk it was so loud. It was so rude and not thought out by the resort. The food was not notable, just plain and simple. Nothing fancy. They were also out of a few items on the menu when we all ordered.
El Dorado Restaurant:
Best food at the resort. Plastic cups were served for some of the drinks, which wasn’t classy. Yellow dressing on the salad tasted like straight up yellow mustard. They had good presentation for the food and the service was fine.
French Restaurant:
Closed for renovations the entire time we were there.
Hunters Restaurant:
Decent options. The food was alright. Could’ve been warmer. The server was nice and got vegan food from the buffet for the vegan in our group. No chef ever came out when requested to see what they would make for the vegan, and almost every other all inclusive we’ve been to on other islands or countries have done that. This resort was very inhospitable to the dietary restrictions of their customers.
Grazie Restaurant:
Just meh Italian. They were out of a few things we really wanted to order. Only had one dessert of the four listed available. The chicken parmesan was nice, warm, and big. Pizza here was better than most resorts have. It was the best you could expect for Italian food at a Jamaican resort. It was annoying that they wouldn’t let you modify any pizzas at lunchtime. It was all or nothing.
Armadillo Restaurant:
This was the one place that had everything we wanted to order and we weren’t told “no” to anything. Our waiter was actually nice and helpful here. We ordered fries that were supposed to have truffle, parmesan and parsley or something like that, and some sort of Dallas mac and cheese, both with fancy names and descriptions I can’t remember. When they arrived, they were just plain fries from the buffet and mac and cheese that you could tell had been at the kids buffet for lunch. Pictures will be attached of them.
Coffee Bar:
Good options. Nice and hot coffee. Ice cream and pastry choices that we were told were made the day of, or at least in house. Never had kahlua during the weekdays, even though other bars would have it, this one just never restocked. Which was extremely annoying, and they even had drinks on their menu with kahlua, but had to either substitute it with something else or not make the drink entirely. It gets a little annoying after a while when you have 7 mornings there and 4-5 you’re told “we don’t have that”, but can see it across the lobby at another bar…
Jerk Hut:
The workers here were extremely rude. Like I’ve never seen shade thrown like that to a customer before so fast. The food was fine and seemed like fresh meat. Sides were just from the buffet, like everywhere else. Unfortunately they throw the leftovers off the back of their stations and the birds flock to them and it’s horrible for their stomachs to process carbs and human food like that. So that was very disappointing to see.
Buffet:
The buffet doesn’t have high quality liquors that diamond club would come with, and you’re only in luck if your server will walk to another bar nearby to get you some. The morning only has vodka and champagne. They will say no to baileys and such, unless you have someone who will go get it for you.
Our Room:
We booked the Penthouse room, diamond club level. No welcome champagne. No wine for the room. No welcome fruit. No snacks given in the mini bar. No robes. Our bed was shaped like a V when we arrived (so you both roll toward the middle when you sleep), which thankfully they changed out on day 2. I have a picture of it here that’s very visible. There was no curtain for the bathroom window, so the beach could see in very clearly and we had to hang towels on the porch to keep people from seeing in. The curtains provided couldn’t slide well, if at all, and some were longer in height than others, so it left a foot gap at the floor for light to enter on one half of the blinds. So we essentially kept the blinds closed during our stay, which was sad since the view was so nice. The penthouse pool was leaning to the side and you could tell the base was all messed up. The sliding doors for the bathroom were SO hard to move and noisy. The ABC TV station shows the screen but doesn’t play volume. ESPN worked fine for both. The room in its entirety was very beaten down and it was good they were at least aware of it enough to renovate, we just sadly weren’t there before it was done. Things were dirty and I didn’t wanna know how much mold was behind the walls and in the cracks. We also couldn’t figure out the light switches in the room to save our lives. You have to hit like 4 buttons on 4 different walls to figure out the secret code, and we never could solve it the entire week we were there.
Beach:
Extremelyyy annoying beach walkers trying to sell goods or services. Boats go right by the buoys bringing waves to the beach and annoyingly yelling at people asking if they want a ride. The water was at least nice and clear and had good sand. Jellyfish are there so beware. We’d see someone get stung once or twice a day. The resort is next to a nudist beach at couples, so if you’re walking the beach or near building 1 on the diamond club side, beware. The beach huts were always out of towels. You had to be down when they opened to be able to grab one. So just hang onto yours for the week and let it dry outside overnight. And honestly, if you can bring your own, I would. They seemed really old and dingy and who wants an all brown towel??
Pool:
The pool level at the diamond club side was a good 2-3 feet lower than it should’ve been for half our time there. You could see the seats at the pool bar it was so low, and no one could tell us why it wasn’t being filled up.
Spa:
We went for the free hydrotherapy we got with our diamond club purchase. We have been to one before and enjoyed the process and had someone walk you through everything, taking you to different stations and such, along with a 10 minute neck and head massage. We went to this spa expecting the same thing and it was so different. Someone shows you where things are, and then leaves you. It’s just a dry sauna, wet sauna (which wasn’t working), and the hot and cold pools with jets. However, the hot and cold pools were the same temperature. Both like bath water almost, not hot and not cold. I think we left after 20 minutes and that was with 10 minutes in the sauna and 5 of figuring out what to do.
General Thoughts:
The restaurants all had the same side dishes it seemed, and half the time it wasn’t even what it was entirely described as. The a la carte restaurants had nothing special that wasn’t at the buffet. We sadly “enjoyed” the food at the buffet more than the a la carte restaurants, which means a resort is not one you want to come to if that’s the case. Their buffalo sauce is sweet and tomato-y, not spicy. So if you order the buffalo wings at the pool bar, be prepared. Lots of plastic silverware and cups at the dinner bars, not a lot of glass, which is annoying and not classy.
It’s extremely hard to get a reservation for dinner spots, especially if you have more than 2 people in your party. We were with a group of 8 people, and it was like pulling teeth to get reservations together, if at all. Some nights we were sitting 4 and 4. One person finally had to put his foot down and speak with a manager for us to be able to have our group time together for dinner and be accommodated.
There was no umbrella in the room even though we were told we should’ve had one, so we had to work on that later with our butler since it rained in the afternoon almost everyday. Also we arrived with no welcome champagne bottle, no in room wine bottle, no robes, and no welcome fruit and snacks. Thankfully he brought us all of those the day or two before we left after I realized what we were supposed to have them with the diamond club. All of these things were included in the diamond club, but sadly we didn’t get them when we were supposed to in order to be able to enjoy them during our stay. So be sure to check the website on what you’re entitled to have on your stay.
Our butlers were fine, but I wouldn’t write home about them. They seemed to do their best and get what we needed, but they also ruined our anniversary night plans for my husband who asked them to decorate our room after we had gone to dinner (they knew when it was because they booked it), and we walked in from the pool to find them in our room… So he was extremely upset since that’s not what he had told them to do and he had even more balloons and gifts to set out along with what they did. So not necessarily the best service on their end and he lost the surprise he had been planning for me.
Everywhere is HOT indoors, even in October. Bring an automatic or manual fan with you, there’s no way to enjoy dinner without one. The food’s bad enough there, so don’t let the heat make it even worse.
The only place we found friendly servers and staff was at the Hideaway side. They were fun and nice and wanted to have a conversation, unlike the family side.
One night around midnight we were leaving the main lobby to head back to our room all the way over at building 1. It was pouring down rain and other people were stranded too. There’s a shuttle that goes around, but there wasn’t a driver in sight for maybe 10-15 minutes of waiting, even though there was a golf cart right there. My husband went to the lobby upstairs and asked for a ride, the worker playing on his cellphone behind the desk said he would call someone. Another 10 minutes go by, and nothing appears, so my husband goes back up. He’s met with, “oh really, let me call the night manager again.” Another 5 minutes go by and we know this isn’t working, so my husband went up and stood there and told him to get someone now, and the man proceeded to walk a few steps, open a door, and the person in the room he opened the door to was the manager who took us. He just never told him, or the manager didn’t care. When we got in the soaking wet cart with everyone else crammed in, the manager kept apologizing to us, and clearly knew he had messed up. We were heated. This on top of everything else the resort had failed on. And this of course could have been avoided if we had been given an umbrella in the room to begin with.
This was the worst vacation we have ever been on and we will never return to Royalton Negril. We feel awful for the people affected by the recent hurricane and all the devastation that was caused, but even if they started this hotel from the ground up again, we would not return.
- 266prettye (2/5): overpriced gift shops - Gift shop prices are extremely overpriced. A bag of chips was $15 USD. We were there during hurricane Melissa and the prices were never marked down. Basic pain relief pills and tampons were ridiculous. Comparing to Couples Resort next door, who was also overpriced was $10USD, during the the hurricane. A rip off to all customers especially during an emergency.
- luizoliani (4/5): -
- Morrisb1-Joanne (2/5): Not 5* Hotel - Don’t waste your money staying here. It s definitely not a 5* hotel. From the moment we got there we were told no for everything. Asked for mojito. No mint one night, no rum another. The short drinks we got tasted like paint stripper. The only soft drinks you could get were coke, sprite and ginger ale. Told no tea for breakfast or it had finished. Complained to tui the said it might be the case they just need to buy some and will send some to our room. Only two tea bags turned up for a fortnights holiday. Had to get a taxi to the supermarket to buy our own tea. No tea in the coffee shop shop either had to us sour own. But the girls in there were lovely. Always happy to joke and smile. Was told there was no beer in the buffet either and you could go upstairs to lobby. Also shouted at in the buffet for sitting in an area that supposed to be closed. Nothing to say it was closed off. All the tables were laid. The waitress then went on to say to other guest can you translate for me as they’re not listening and I don’t get paid enough for this. The cleaner told my daughter it was because of the birds. The birds were everywhere and would take food off your plates ? The restaurant s were another issue. We weren’t told they would only be open one day a week. Nothing on the tui site to say this and nothing on the Royalton site. Couldn’t book on the app as it just kept saying too many or closed. Went to concierge, said keep trying for a cancellation. Back to tui to complain. Tui did book us into the restaurant . The hotel is on a stunning bay. Clear warm water and lots of sea life. But the beach we used wasn’t cleaned. Broken glasses in the Sand, full glasses of drinks, wet towels. The hideaway and diamond club beaches were always. clean. No beach service of drinks either. It’s the first hotel in the Caribbean we come across that doesn’t off this or is selective on the which guest get it. You’d think this would be a service at a 5* hotel. We weren’t allowed to walked around the side of the hideaway. Again never had a problem at other hotels. What did they think we were going to do ? Plates of food was left in the corridors then moved to lifts. This was left there for days. When it rained the ceiling leaked in the foyer and they put towels down. When we come down at 6 am one morning part of the ceiling had come down in the lobby. It was cleaned up then yoga mats put in that area for the class. How do they know it was safe without doing checks. We were told the martini would be closed for renovation. It wasn’t and was below our room pumping music out full pelt to two in the morning. Fine if you like this sort of thing.
We waited two years for this holiday and it was just awful. So stressful. It s not a 5* hotel if you pay standard money.
- myronettas (2/5): Don’t book here at all horrible experience will not be back - It’s been an horrible experience we checked into a rm with no air they sent someone no change wouldn’t change our room mini bar was not stocked upon check-in never stocked until next day all the amenities that supposed to come with trip they stop Hurricane started today no food and they still want to charge us extra money for going over our check out date
- 98leahd (10/5): Honeymoon in the hideaway - Myself and my husband decided to chose the Royalton for our honeymoon, which is just amazing! The only downfall I would say is the charge you have to put your card details incase you loose your bracelet is 150 dollars per one on a credit card, which isn’t something I would normally bring on holiday
But once we had our bag taken to the room, we settled in nicely! The staff are amazing from the lady who give a drink saying welcome home! We were looked after a few times by some lovely waiters / waitresses, the ones who stood out for us were Kenton, who looked after us in Hunter Steakhouse, and Keith in Gourmet Marche, what a lovely lovely man, a credit to your team both members! So friendly and both of them made our visit amazing! The vibe team were great too, we were staying in the hideaway part!
We liked the idea of the prime traveller club and was mentioned in the best way, but just wasn’t the best idea for us at this stage but would defiantly go and have a chat again on another holiday!
Once the hurricane does hit the staff have been amazing, making sure everyone is safe! Fingers crossed Royalton does not have much impact from the storm😇
- akeliab2024 (10/5): Diamond club stay - Our stay was awesome, even when though everyone was preparing for the hurricane, we enjoyed our self and our safety was their priority
- 870darahs (2/5): NEVER AGAIN--- - My third trip to Jamaica, and my 1st and last visit to Negril. After traveling over an hour from the airport one would expect the trip to be well worth it, NOPE. My credit card was charged the booking balance twice at check-in, I've been back from my trip for more than a week and I am still trying to recover my funds. The hotel is not clean---the elevators, halls, and rooms are not clean. There was left over food in our microwave, a bug in the tub (that sat for more than a day), room service plates stayed in our room for 2 days, the food was repetitive, some staff were not at all friendly, they ran out of everything (towels, food, liquor, hospitability, and respect). I will never travel back to this or another Royalton resort. There is no way this place should be rated as high as it is. My advice is to separate the general guest reviews from the diamond club reviews.
- Kubasampson7 (4/5): Not what I paid $2300.00 for - No TV for 2 days now. Male staff harass the Single women guess are constantly asked for dates and saying things like I wish I was your husband as they wall past you. 3 cockroaches in my room and only 1 restaurant open a night when it is advertised 9. No Wrays Jamaican made rum! Male staff using the women's washrooms. I feel like I am on the show 90 Day Finance and I am 63.
My sister is at this hotel now and she is experiencing the same things.
Now they are giving her 2 beers for restocking for 2 people a day for the room.
We both had Luxury Suites!
- ellieanne1 (10/5): Celebrating my sisters wedding - Our experience at the Royalton was amazing. Star fire is the most amazing entertainer I have ever come across and she made our holiday and my sisters wedding the best there could be. We will miss her a lot and will definitely return to Jamaica to visit her again x
- Kathleen (4/5): Go somewhere else - don't stay here - The view The resort is in very bad shape. Closet doors were broken, drawers didn't open or close correctly. Bar cupboards are warped and damaged. Couldn't get reservations in any of the restaurants and when you asked the front desk about it they say yup that's the way it is and don't do anything to help.
Was supposed to get a $300 resort credit but the resort said it was a booking.com error and booking said it comes from the resort.
- 935chantellel (10/5): Amazing Royalton Negril - Our experience at Royalton Negril was everything we hoped for and more. The ambiance, the rooms, the staff and the food were amazing. We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend without hesitation.
- vg523 (2/5): DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ! - This might take a minute so sit back and relax ☺️
This is my 5th Royalton and my second time at this resort. The first time was back during 2020. Food; great! Customer service 10! Accommodation 11/10! I had such a great experience I HAD to come back right???
Traveled back earlier this month and it was a NIGHTMARE!
No air in our bedroom, leaking one of our bathrooms, paint everywhere! On the mirrors and floors, the jet tub didn’t work ROACHES!!! In our bathroom! I was absolutely disgusted with Royalton and their staff! All they kept doing is apologizing… I told them that I’m tired of apologies show me the money! I wrote a 2 page complaint and emailed everyone I could with my complaints.
Don’t waste your money! Go somewhere else !
- N5939YRkimr (2/5): DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME GOING TO THIS RESORT! - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME GOING TO THIS RESORT!
Our room was nice and kept clean daily. AC temp was perfect. The lady that checked us in was kind and attentive to our request. That’s all that was good with check in.
Sales people… Every time you walked by you were asked to do an excursion no matter how many times you walked by the same people in one day. They asked and asked and asked.
Swim up bar… Very limited in drink selection and ran out of items by early afternoon. We had to take a walk to other bars to get the drinks we wanted. Attitudes sucked from all of them except for Sabrina. She was cool and pleasant.
Buffet restaurant… Food and drinks were horrible! I never expect a lot at all inclusive but running out of food and items for drinks is unacceptable! Serving guests with attitudes and hostility is unacceptable! I could not figure out why were they so damn angry!
Beach and pool… Not having beach towels daily is unacceptable! Towel hut opened at 9:00. No towels available at 9:00 on first day. Towels ran out by 10:00 on second day. We had to walk back and forth hoping we catch a clean batch of towels before they would run out. Yes they ran out everyday.
Every time you walked by you were asked to do an excursion no matter how many times you walked by the same people in one day. They asked and asked and asked.
Our driver said everything is good in Jamaica… yes I agree for my past few trips to Jamaica but definitely not this one!! After that LONG LONG LONG ride to get to Negril only yo stay at a resort that should be closed down.
The island and view of course is beautiful but Royalton Negril Resort is HORRIBLE!
- Theoldertwin (6/5): 3.5 star - Cons:
Only one restaurant opens each night, and the food was a 6 out of ten when you ate there.
Cold sides, meat was always not to order.
You also could not get hot fries anywhere but the sports bar.
The beach is beautiful but there is not enough staff to clean it up so it's like an ash tray. Butts and chicken bones all over the place that attract the ants, and it smells.
Too many sugar drinks like most.
The towels situation is silly; they run out before 2 p.m.
Only two beers per room is another silly rule every 24 hours.
It is very dark when walking at night to any of the areas for dinner. They need to fix that.
Pros:
The staff is a 9/10, there is always one in each department that loves to abuse their power.
The jerk hut was really good.
Only one bartender at the main lobby bar who knows how to make a drink!
She has taken bartending courses and knows it's a five-star hotel, so you expect more. I forgot her name, but she is a tall skinny girl who is always moving.
The room was nice with the view.
All in all, I have been all over Jamaica in hotels and this was my least favorite.
Not luxury and not a 5 star.
- LeanneFraserWales (4/5): Not a 5 star resort by a long stretch! - Here now and very disappointed. Location is beautiful and staff are lovely. BUT there are major issues, which are down to poor management. We have stayed in Royalton hotels before so expected the same quality and hospitality.
Check-in service was appalling. No concierge to greet us from the bus and unable to check-in to Diamond Club at main reception. Sat for 45mins with no drink offered, not even water, until I complained again at reception. It was just gone 10pm when we arrived. We were told that DC reception closed at 11pm… and yet it wasn’t until I complained again at 10.45pm that the new shift at the main reception miraculously were able to check us in. A terrible start!
Room is large and swim-up is nice (Building 1) that we paid extra for, using the Royalton app before we arrived.
Constantly having to ask for items to be replenished in our mini-bar, like water and soft drinks, coffee pods for machine, no sugar, teaspoons, cups, glasses… things we would expect automatically to be supplied. Towels not replaced as part of daily housekeeping when dirty ones returned.
Pool towels run out on a daily basis at stations around the resort, drinks unavailable behind the bars such as gin, whisky, etc. No mint, no tomato juice, no fresh fruit for smoothies or milkshakes.
Restaurants only open on rotation, so not all available every night as we had expected. Limited menu choices with many things not available. Having to rely on butlers to make reservations. Buffet at the Marche doesn’t even have things like fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, avocado.
Toilets around the resort run out of toilet paper, flushes don’t work, no soap in dispensers, no paper hand towels.
This is basic hygiene.
Entertainment at the main stage in the evenings is very lack-lustre and poor at best. It’s all very half-hearted and certainly not a full programme.
Many UK visitors complaining about the same issues. TUI Reps on resort never around, despite leaving notes on their desk asking them to contact us. Eventually managed to track one down 5 days in to our holiday. We’ve logged official complaint and have been offered compensation.
However, we will never stay at a Royalton hotel again. And feel that TUI are miss-selling a 5 star resort and all it should offer. This is definitely NOT a 5 star resort. Jamaica is beautiful and so are the people/vibe here. But this is a real let-down for people paying a lot of money for a “dream” holiday.
If we had known that the resort was operating on limited service and half the capacity, we would have changed hotel before arriving here.
It could be so much better and should be representative of what guests are paying for and expect to receive.
- nicolegX7902DJ (6/5): Saved by the Butler - The resort has beautiful grounds and an absolutely beautiful location, with that said we stayed DC and from the very beginning it was an unpleasant experience majority of the staff where not welcoming at all, they definitely have the wrong people in the wrong positions. Hostesses where not welcoming at any restaurant waitresses all seemed to have attitudes. Rooms had issues one of the couples we went with had no air for 2 days and only a fan was offered, our room which was a penthouse had issues and we had no choice but to be relocated to another building away from the couples we traveled with just an utter mess the first 2 days of our trip. With ALLLL that said their where 3 people who went above and beyond to make our stay as smooth as possible once they were aware of the issues Brian our Butler was absolutely the BEST we ever had absolutely Amazing if you go and stay Hideaway please request him you will not be disappointed, Maxine propert manager was also Amazing once she found out what was happening she absolutely turned the trip around and made sure all 3 couples were taken care of and last but not least Tiffany who worked o the Score bar was amazing if it weren't for these 3 people we would have all relocated to another resort. They definitely understood what customer service meant and saved our trip.
- S2221OQmarkl (8/5): Great, except for beach towels scarcity. - Overall, the experience was great. There were just constant lack of beach towels, so there were many days where we had to run back to our room dripping wet from the pool/beach.
Other than that, food was great, beach was awesome, and their entertainments were extremely fun.
We also had excellent butlers, Sheldon and Roshaun, who made sure we were comfortable and having a great time. Even going to lengths as providing us with beach towels when there weren’t any available.
- P6820SRjohns (6/5): Bring Back Reggae Music - We came to Royalton Negril as a group of 18 people to enjoy Jamaica’s culture—not just the beaches and food, but also the music. When we first arrived, there was reggae playing and the atmosphere was perfect, authentic, and vibrant. But we were shocked and disappointed to learn that someone from head office told the staff not to play reggae or cultural music anymore. That’s the very heart of Jamaica!
We came here for the culture, the energy, and the vibe that reggae brings. Taking that away makes the resort feel generic, like it could be anywhere in the world. It feels like the very soul of Jamaica is being silenced. We didn’t come here to listen to YMCA, Justine Bieber, 90’s freestyle, slow jams or 80’s oldies!
C’mon Royalton, do better. We need the reggae vibes back— at least Bob Marley, lovers rock, cultural Jamaican music, what’s wrong with that?? Please bring reggae vibes back - that’s what makes Jamaica, Jamaica.
We still have a few days left here and we truly hope management reconsiders this policy and allows reggae and cultural music to be played again. Guests like us travel here to experience the real Jamaica, and music is a huge part of that.
Aside from that everything else has been bless -great hotel, food and staff…but poor music decisions.
- 932vr (2/5): This place is not I repeat a luxury resort - Place is horrible , staff not friendly most of them from the jerk hut to the Martini bar , the beach bar employees nice and bar in main lobby employees nice, the sports bar is trash , even check in experience was TERRIBLE given no information and conned into going on a 90 minute presentation to buy a vacation package really just a time share the sales people were horrible, pool towels gone by noon , bath towels hard az heck, Mimi bar stacked once in 5 days, and can’t get a reservation in a restaurant. To the management save your apology response you know this place is horrible do better waste of my hard earned money, I WILL NEVER VISIT A ROYALTON PROPERTY EVER AGAIN AND I ASSURE YOU I WILL MAKE SURE EVERYONE I KNOW THINKS FIRST , IF YOUR THINKING ABOUT COMIG HERE …..AND TO THE MANAGEMENT SAVE IT ,
- jessicacL4306EH (2/5): Extremely Disappointing Stay – Misleading Advertising, Rude Staff, Roaches, Odor, and Poor Food - I almost never write reviews, but my recent stay was such a terrible experience that I feel I have to warn others.
From the moment I arrived, things were off. The property looked nothing like the photos — what was advertised as clean, comfortable, and well-kept was actually dirty, run-down, and clearly neglected.
The staff didn’t make things any better. Every interaction felt like a confrontation. They were dismissive and rude, and anytime I brought up a concern, I was met with attitude instead of help.
The worst part was the roach infestation in my room. Seeing roaches crawling around was disgusting and completely unacceptable. When I switched rooms, I was hit with a horrible odor that made it hard to breathe and even triggered my immune system disorder. It turned an already bad experience into something genuinely unsafe.
To make matters worse, out of nine restaurants on the property, only one was open — and the food there was awful. Most of what I ordered was cold, poorly made, or just unavailable. For a resort, that’s ridiculous.
Then, to top it all off, guest services offered me a beach cabana only if I signed a release of claim. That felt incredibly unethical, like they were trying to dodge responsibility instead of making things right.
Overall, this stay was beyond disappointing. Between the false advertising, health hazards, rude service, and terrible food, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. I sincerely hope management steps up and fixes these issues, because right now, it’s unacceptable.
- S7EOcraigm (4/5): Beach is nice, everything else is not great. - The beach is great. Calm, clean, plenty of chairs with shade. The pools are good, bartenders & servers get the job done, although none are very friendly. The ladies at the Sand bar are the nicest I’ve encountered in the whole place. The vibe team have some great people, but there is still not much going on. The towel situation is pathetic, thankfully the room butlers starting bringing us towels each day, since there are rarely any available at stand. We stayed in a one bedroom suite in diamond club building 2. Room was clean, however a bit run down. On day 3 the ceiling started leaking into room. Must have diamond club butler to get restaurant reservations, since website doesn’t work and doesn’t have correct schedule. Food is poor to mediocre at restaurants and buffet. This will be our last stay a Royalton, due to quality of food. Will be our last stay in Jamaica due to the service. Other than the beach, we preferred Royalton Cancun.
- 698indiaj (4/5): Not worth the time or money. - This was myself first all inclusive resort as well as my husbands, most staff are attentive but you can tell some are tired and over worked. We purchased the diamond club experience and felt it was lackluster and not worth it. Our butlers were great, however the room had some issues and some obvious wear and tear.
The biggest issue however is activities and food, you are hassled as soon as you step out of your room to purchase expensive excursions, and will be pressured to do so. Activities just on the resort are lackluster as well, as the diamond club pool had leaking issues constantly and the water pressure was very very low and you could barely swim in the water.
The second extremely glaring issue is how awful the food is. When getting reservations at the restaurant, you would expect for the food to be decent as these are diamond club restaurants but they were awful. Food came out cold, or just warm not freshly made. Bland flavor and cuts of meat. The steakhouse was especially awful, as it was extremely salty and the Mac and cheese was just over boiled noodles in an awful “cheese sauce”. The room service was also awful, they never had anything in stock, and would forget some times you ordered as well. The only decent food there was the pizza. Alot of the food tasted like Walmart items, ESPECIALLY the desserts and Walmart items are okay, but not if you’re paying 3k for a wonderful experience. Overall the staff was okay, butlers were great but everything else was terrible. I would not recommend coming to this resort, I would save your money and look for a different all inclusive resort.
- Trek00633749184 (4/5): I would never return or recommend this resort! Don't waste your money! - Butler service using the what's app, they were very attentive and did enhance the experience along with the kids club family very nice people and caring for kids. That's where my experience of enjoyment ends at this royalton NEGRIL. To give you an overall understanding of my unpleasant demeanor, this was a family celebration for my wifes 40th birthday, just us 2 and our 2 kids. I booked their top tier(we thought) Penthouse 1 bedroom suite Diamond Club. Diamond club is what they upsell you on for added amneties, luxury room and service. We found out that Diamond club is a money swindle tier that just sound great. You get none of the real amneties unless you pay into this yearly/monthly membership program. Our room was DIRTY and that's being nice to say I would use Filthy the couch had huge stain along the sides and top, when pulled out the thin topper was crumbled and falling off. The lounger in the bedroom had a "Footprint an actual right footprint still visible imprinted. The floor was loosely swept as we took off our shoes and quickly put them back on after feeling the floor dirt. The rooftop jacuzzi was freshly painted, cheaply we got in and the paint rubbed off on us everywhere. Stepping out the room the Diamond club rooms are in back of the resort, the have only two cart to help you get from back to front and they don't run looking to pick up they have to be called and it take them 10 to 15 mins to respond as they act like it's not in the job description I scheduled a pick up on our leave date and the cart never showed i had to take all our luggage from the back of the property to the front by hand myself (Pathetic service) No one wanted offer help or greeted me as we walked to the front. Another lackluster Diamond club perk that's not a perk. Even with Diamond club were its stated you will have preferred resturant reservations (LIES) we were only able to book the steakhouse and not be able to sit at the hibachi, had to sit outdoor seating for Japanese over a 5 day trip. Employees don't make you feel at home, welcomed or wanted. I tip for all services little or big and from our past visits to jamaica I average about $250 I brought $300 this trip and I returned with $225 their service is horrid. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND OR RETURN TO THIS RESORT AND ALMOST MAKES ME NEVER WANT TO RETURN TO JAMAICA! ID RATHER SPEND MY MONEY IN MEXICO WITH A BETTER RESORT COMPANY.
- 130cookiew (6/5): Royalton Negril - I am currently at the Royalton Negril until the weekend. The setting of the hotel is lovely, picturesque views.
1. You have to request for the mini bar to be restocked daily. Otherwise, it will not be refilled, as we found out.
2. There is too much salt in the food, which would be really tasty but is ruined. Several people were saying the same thing. We are trying to avoid hypertension.
3. Booked the Calypso restaurant last night for 8 pm. Didn't get in until 8.45 as they do a block booking for several guests, and then it's first come, first serve basis. Apparently, they had to wash the cutlery was given. The salmon cake was too salty to eat, and the fish fritters slightly less salty. The pepper pot soup was nowhere near a jamaican dish. It was water, salt, a teaspoon of greens, and no flavour, not edible.
There was no snapper, so I couldn't have any of the fish dishes. The ribs were pure fat 2 out of 3 of our dishes. One of us ended up rushing to the buffet 10 minutes before closure.
You should not be running out of food, low season or not.
Would be ice to have some patties where they serve jerk chicken or in the gelatto shop. as again, the food truck is not open on the app, it stated open.
We are Jamaicans.
4. No, do not disturb signage. Every day, we have to endure the domestic staff knocking and trying to open the door.
5. Premium drinks for Diamond Club members are not worth the extra. Might as well pay less and go to Riu . The only things that are much better are the rooms and musical entertainment.
The app takes away responsibility from the staff to check the rooms and top-up. We have a Swim up room, but there is no incentive to use it because you have to keep going to the bar for a drink. Diamond Club can only use the spa/steam for free, 45 USD per day for non Diamond Club members. Some of the staff are unhappy and look miserable. They work hard and should be treated well. The entertainment staff were more engaging 2 years ago, i recognise just one the others have left. We have no incentive to return.
- N2879IHfrankk (10/5): Heartwarming and Fun Royalton Negril. - My wife and I visited the Royalton Negril and Spa end of September, 2025 for one week .
What a wonderful vacation we had and certainly all of the staff we interacted with treated us like family.
I want to single out a few who I remembered their names and faces that will have a lasting impression on us.
Firstly, our welcoming housekeeper Stacey-Anne beautiful smile each time we sees her.
She maintains our room immaculately clean and decorate our room with flowers and place a banner across our door with a birthday and anniversary card.
Secondly, Chef Gory , manages the main buffet and would have my gluten free bread at the pastry bar at breakfast times ready, even when he is not around.
What a wonderful gentleman and brethren.
Thirdly, Satina booking coordinator who booked and cordinated our dinner reservations for the alacarte restaurants.
What an incredible young lady very trustworthy with a approachable personality, always greeted us with a smile.
Leanna , at the main buffet who just radiates with so much positivity and charm.
Love her, she got us a huge sour sap for breakfast and recommended places to visit in town.
Lastly , I will mention front desk, took care our room change promptly , staff respectful. The remarkable ladies that serve us our hot coffee, cappucchino , pastry in the coffee bar. You are all exceptionally good at your craft.
The cappuccino is the best.
Dining room staff at the main buffet are all wonderful .
Finally, resort is big ,restaurants food is good enjoyed all the traditional foods especially Thursday Jamaica theme night, landscaping ,beautifully manicured, pools and beach are all fantastic .
- Quest26438521007 (10/5): Grazie Italian Review - The staff at Grazie Italian Trattoria namely Alexandra, Kenton, and Omar were amazing. Great recommendations, attention to detail and they provided warm, welcoming service in a timely manner.
- Trip28647623140 (2/5): A Two Star Hotel Not A Four/Five Star - The rooms need serious renovations. Leaky bathroom, raw sewage smell, soiled mattress, broken furniture, A/C broken
- MrChairman (8/5): Positives & Negatives - Positives & Negatives
We booked this 14 day holiday in April 2024 as part of a wedding package to see our son and his fiancé get married at the Royalton in Negril in September 2025. Then we read the reviews on Trip Advisor and oh my god did we have a shock….complaint after complaint, negative review after negative review….which included complaints about the food especially in the buffet, check in taking for ages, very tired rooms, air-con not working, rude staff, the list of negatives went on and on so you can imagine the apprehension and worry we went through from April 24 to September 25, more so as the negative reviews just kept coming.
The day finally came when we arrived at the Royalton, so let’s take a look at the positives first.
Let me start off by saying that all those negative reviews for me personally were absolutely over the top but you can appreciate I can only go by our recent experience. For a start check in went ever so smoothly and within minutes of arriving we were being shown to our room on the 2nd floor in block 3. The views from our balcony across Orange Bay were absolutely stunning and the beach below where we spent most of our time was perfect. Our room wasn’t tired, the air-con worked perfectly, the shower was amazing, the bed was exceptionally comfy and the fridge was restocked virtually everyday except for one, I must also mention Annette the lady who looked after our room, so friendly and polite and on the subject of polite staff, my theory is this, if you make the effort to speak to the staff in a friendly and polite manor, in return you will always get the same back, we spoke to lots of staff and we found the majority to be really friendly and very polite, I only wish the same could be said of the guests many of whom were Americans, some made it quite clear that they had no intention of even saying good morning, but I hasten to add that just as many were very polite.
The food in the buffet can seem a little repetitive as most buffets do over a 14 day period, however I’m celiac and the staff in the buffet restaurant couldn’t do enough to make sure that anything I ate contained no gluten, even going as far as to cook me stir fry with a gluten free sauce and gluten free pasta and at no point during breakfast, lunch and our evening meal did I ever struggle to find anything to eat.
We booked a really good trip with one of the guys on the beach where we visited a small island, then onto a reef for some snorkelling, where to be very honest the sea life is no more than very average compared to other places we have snorkelled, but it was still a great experience, then we stopped off further down the coast at a small beach bar before heading onto the caves below Ricks Cafe before climbing up the steps to Ricks to watch a few of the locals cliff jumping.
On a couple of days we walked along the beach to where some of the locals sell gifts and souvenirs, an experience you must not miss, the gifts are cheaper than those that you can buy at the hotel, plus you can barter with the sellers.
So all in all after worrying for the best part of 17 months, we had a great time topped off by seeing our son and his fiancé exchange their wedding vows.
Lastly the Negatives.
My one major gripe with the Royalton was that at the time of booking Tui advertised the hotel as being in their Platinum Collection and was a 5 star resort. There is no way that the Royalton is a 5 star resort, in-fact Tui have downgraded the hotel into their Summer Sun collection. Tui also advertised that the resort has 5 gourmet restaurants, unfortunately when we were there only one of the 5 was open, alternating each night amongst the other 4, with the buffet restaurant opening every night, the reason for the nightly closures we were told was that during September their had been a downturn in bookings compared to last year. Now I’m sorry Royalton but if you’re advertising 5 gourmet restaurants then 5 should be open no matter what time of year it is. Just to compound the situation out of the 14 nights we were at the hotel we only managed to book to eat at the other restaurants on 3 occasions as every other night was fully booked, so on the remaining 11 nights we had to eat at the buffet restaurant, so heaven knows what the restaurant booking situation is like when it’s busy.
Drinks were another issue as on numerous occasions certain bars ran out of spirits which for a 5 star platinum resort is absolutely ridiculous, this probably explained why no cocktail menus were made available at the Sports Bar, Martini Bar and Pool Bar, but I must hasten to add that none of these negatives spoiled our holiday, but I did hear lots of other guests complaining which I can quite understand.
Roaches according to some reviews were also a problem too in some of the rooms, we had none in our room but we did see the odd one in hallways, but do I have to remind guests that we are in a tropical climate so you’re going to see some.
Would we go back, I’m afraid not, the Royalton being a large complex is not the type of holiday we would normally go for, preferring instead the quieter boutique type hotels, but that doesn’t mean to say that we didn’t enjoy our time here, as we definitely did plus as I’ve said earlier the wedding was the icing on the cake, excuse the pun.
I hope my review helps potential guests, if you’ve got a question please feel free to message me.
Happy Holidays
Mr Chairman
- donovanh420 (2/5): Just a nasty hotel - I arrived at my room to find a BLOOD stained pillow case on my pillow. Obviously the room was not clean or the bed linen changed.
Reported it, wanted to see the general manager.
They put you thru so many hoops to avoid this.
- dougdY8482ZX (4/5): disappointing resort! - I would save your $ and go somewhere else. We made the decision to stay there given my Marriott Status ... had a 9-night stay at Royalton Negril (Marriott Autograph Collection) and it was… disappointing. 😞🛑 Resort issues:
No resort credits at check-in as promised, and when they finally gave us a coupon book, it was useless too late in our stay and we had already booked things we could have used a coupon for.
One of our showers had no shampoo/soap for 9 nights. No replacements small sizes available and no solution to fill the bottle according to them. Had to DIY with an empty water bottle and put soap in it from the other shower. (In a Presidential Suite!!)
Pool towel station was out of towels almost every day. No solution offered.
Mold on buildings, broken fixtures, water leaking into the lobby during rain, wood on doors and trim around the resort are in terrible shape throughout the resort, broken glass panes,. Not what you'd expect from a Marriott or what I would think they would want their brand represented by. (I have attached pictures of most of this!)
💬 Marriott Bonvoy frustrations:
Spent ~$10K and got ZERO points or elite night credit because I booked through a travel agent. I only knew about the hotel because of the agent I used. Had I known, I’d have gone elsewhere (likely the sandals next door!)
I’ve been loyal to Marriott for years, but this experience made me rethink and lately have switched to Hilton. 🏨#MarriottBonvoy #RoyaltonNegril #TravelReview #CustomerExperience #LoyaltyProgramFail I should have said that I reached out to Marriott for some sort of resolution and got nothing other than take it up with the resort. I did that and got zero response or help. I told them I would make sure to share my experience to help others and they also didn't care. Soooooo , I would find another option !
- B3089IQjessw (10/5): Star fire is a vibe - Star fire has made my trip so fun and energetic great vibe and the vibe team is amazing so much fun and energy to go around hotel is amazing
- tomjen2 (10/5): Fantastic holiday - We have just got back from the royalton in Negril, we stayed in the diamond club with a swim up pool room 1007. At first we nearly changed hotels as there was works happening, so glad we didn’t as you would of never know this we didn’t hear a thing. we had a fantastic time all the staff there are friendly and welcoming and spoke to us every day, the vibe team made it enjoyable getting everyone involved in the games, the food was lovely and so many restaurants to choose from, we had butler service and this was excellent they we’re always on hand if you needed them which we only had one issue which was being locked out of our room the butler sorted this very promptly ( needed a new battery), came back to room after a hard day sun bathing and the butler had run me a jacuzzi bath with petals and flowers it was so beautiful and a special touch, the room it’s self was lovely and cannot fault it. All in all I would highly recommend visiting , this is now one of our favourite places and we will return and hopefully get the same lovely butlers we had
- 289efrent (6/5): Disappointing Stay at Royalton Negril – Not Worth the Price - Disappointing Stay at Royalton Negril – Not Worth the Price
We were excited to book our family vacation at Royalton Negril, Jamaica, expecting a high-quality experience, especially considering the premium price and the reputation Royalton Resorts typically carries. Unfortunately, our stay turned out to be a disappointment from the very start.
Upon arrival, the check-in process was completely disorganized, and unlike most all-inclusive resorts, no welcome drinks were offered. It was not a great first impression. The resort itself was uncomfortably hot — none of the air conditioning seemed to be working throughout the common areas, leaving us all sweating and uncomfortable.
Our room was no better. It was stuffy and far from the comfort we had anticipated. We reached out to customer service multiple times about the room temperature, but no one came to address or fix the issue. This lack of response from the staff was very frustrating and left us feeling ignored.
To be fair, the grounds of the resort are beautiful. The gardens, beach, and overall exterior appearance of the resort are impressive and well-kept. Unfortunately, the beauty of the surroundings didn’t make up for the lackluster experience in other areas.
The buffet food was just okay — edible but very repetitive, with little variety from day to day. The à la carte restaurants were similarly underwhelming. In fact, one evening we had a reservation at a restaurant that was unexpectedly closed when we arrived, with no notice or communication from the staff about the change.
The entertainment options, like the Michael Jackson show and Jamaican cultural night, were fine, but not particularly memorable. It felt like the resort was just going through the motions rather than delivering engaging or standout performances.
Overall, this family getaway, which we hoped would create lasting memories, sadly became something we’d rather forget. I’ve heard that Royalton Negril is due for renovations — and it definitely needs them. But beyond the physical upgrades, the resort would also benefit greatly from improved service and guest communication.
Unfortunately, based on our experience, I would not recommend this resort, especially not at the price point. There are better options in Jamaica for a family vacation that delivers both quality and value.
- O6480PIdanm (10/5): One Love - A Truly Unforgettable Stay at the Royalton Jamaica – Thanks to Romaine & Samantha!
Our 11-night stay at the Royalton Hotel in Jamaica was absolutely incredible, and a huge part of that experience was down to the exceptional service provided by our butlers, Romaine and Samantha. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel like VIPs, and their attention to detail truly exceeded every expectation.
Both Romaine and Samantha went above and beyond throughout our stay. It’s clear that they take immense pride in their work – whether it was arranging special surprises, helping us with last-minute requests, or making sure we were always comfortable, they were always one step ahead. We felt completely taken care of, and it was their dedication that made this holiday truly unforgettable.
What really stood out, aside from their professionalism, was how great they were with our kids. They made the entire family feel welcome and at ease, always checking in to make sure everyone was happy. The kids adored them and always looked forward to seeing them, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Their kindness and genuine care were truly heartwarming.
If you’re fortunate enough to have Romaine and Samantha as your butlers, you are in for the best service on the resort. They made our trip feel truly special, and I can honestly say we’ve never had better butlers in all our travels.
Thank you, Romaine and Samantha, for making our stay at the Royalton Jamaica absolutely perfect. We can’t wait to come back!
- Ybklsbb (8/5): Running out of things - While had high hopes for the place were a bit disappointed. The hotel itself looks pretty new and the beach is just amazing and absolutely worth it. Great rooms however the service was way too disappointing. Don't get me wrong some of the staff were absolutely amazing and tried the best. While had a dimond club experience still had issues. For example could not make a reservation to the restaurant for the first 3 night even though we had 3 butlers to assist us and the buffet option was really bad. Ordering room service is also an option, but imagine our surprise when they told us they ran out of pizza. And that seemed to be the trend with everything. Ran out of milk, ran out of beer, ran out of diet coke etc the list just goes on and on. This also applies to the restaurants as well. Every restaurant we visited eventually didn't have about a third of what the menu said. While we were initially impressed with housekeeping that was gone mid week, when they stopped showing up for the night service and stopped changing the washcloths and hand towels. Tried the spa as well and never had a massage while they were trying to talk to me the entire time and sell more services

- R6419HXnatashaa (2/5): Very Disappointing Stay – Will Not Return - We traveled to Royalton Negril from August 20–27, 2025, with a group of 37 people to celebrate a milestone occasion. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing, and I would not recommend this resort.
Our presidential suite was not available the first night, despite being booked and confirmed. We were given a temporary room that was nowhere near comparable. Other guests had serious room problems: broken shower heads, doors that wouldn’t lock, and even cockroaches in multiple rooms.
Dining was a nightmare. Despite being told to book restaurant reservations upon arrival, we were told everything was fully booked for the entire week. None of the 37 people in our group could get a proper dinner reservation, which completely ruined the dining experience.
Food & drink shortages were constant. Mint for mojitos, whipped cream at the coffee bar, pool towels, and even basic sodas were “unavailable” most of the trip, even when visibly stocked.
Rude staff interactions. At the pool bar, staff rolled their eyes when we ordered drinks. At the buffet’s pizza/pasta station, when we asked politely if cheese pizza was available, we were told, “Can’t you see the pizza?” — even though the labeling was incorrect. This attitude was dismissive and unprofessional.
Customer service was unhelpful. Staff passed us from person to person, and no real solutions were ever given.
For a resort of this brand and price point, the experience was unacceptable. We met other large groups who faced the exact same problems. Between poor service, lack of dining, staff rudeness, and maintenance/sanitation issues, this was one of the worst resort experiences we’ve had.
We will not return, and I strongly caution others before booking here.
- ricardobZ8000YN (10/5): 💯 - The room and services at the Royalton Negril resort was excellent. Our butler Dorrett was very helpful with our needs. She made our stay pleasant. She communicated consistently on WhatsApp or called. Please give her a raise or promotion. The food was good. The restaurants are clean. The pools are clean. The beaches are clean. With nice blue water. The bathrooms were clean. The staff at the gym and spa were helpful. The night time entertainment was family friendly. We had no problems checking in and out of the resort. We made it to the airport hours earlier before our flight.
- Camper66342316573 (8/5): Almost a Perfect Vacation - This was my first time staying in Negril after vacationing in other parts of Jamaica and Royalton did not deliver in some of the most important areas but the staff made our stay worth it. Firstly, Thank You Dorrett "Wonder Woman" Black for making our stay well worth it. Kadeam , Garfield, and especially you are TOP NOTCH. Ms. Dorrett Black went out of her way to get my wife and I to tge airport on time after Nexxus Transportation dropped the ball and displayed subpar professionalism and lack of care. Cabana Staff Anthony and Andrew salute you guys were superb. Royalton Diamond Staff AA+, Resort Staff A+, Buffet Staff A+, Gift Shop Staff D-, Entertainment C-, Specialty Restuarants C-, Beach Staff AA+, Resort Security A, overall review 3.5 Stars=B- do to closed restaurantsand subpar nightly entertainment.
- elainehA8571CX (10/5): Incredible Vacation - Our stay at Royalton Negril was truly elevated because of our incredible butler, Dorrett. From the moment we arrived, she went above and beyond to make sure every detail of our trip was seamless and personalized. Her warm personality, attentiveness, and genuine care made us feel so well taken care of.
Dorrett anticipated our needs before we even had to ask—whether it was arranging reservations, making sure our room was always stocked with our favorites, or surprising us with thoughtful touches that made our stay extra special. She was always just a message away, and every interaction with her was professional, kind, and delivered with a smile.
It’s clear that Dorrett takes great pride in what she does, and it shows in the level of service she provides. She turned our vacation into an unforgettable experience, and we are so grateful for her. If you’re lucky enough to have Dorrett as your butler, you’re guaranteed an exceptional stay!
- Sarah (6/5): - I had a wonderful massage which was reasonably priced - 50 min deep tissue for $99.
😊
- johannalE8528ZT (2/5): The worst experience I don’t recommend this hotel to anybody - The worst hotel that I ever stay in my life, customer service was very unfriendly. My room had roaches when I call customer service. They keep putting me on hold. I ended up going to the front desk and they didn’t have nobody to help me with my issue, they put me in another room, which was the master suite at the diamond club . The sink was clock. The pool area was dirty. The next day they put me back to my room supposed to do a deep cleaning. I found another roaches and on top of that I went for a swim and my swim out pool that I have and it was a big crab meanwhile they never clean my room. Most of the time I was in the other side of the resort, which was the adult area where my friends was Room server was very bad. I call early in the morning for towels. They never brought it to me. I ended up going to the housekeeping area to get my own tower every time I go to the front desk, nobody was there to respond for any question that I had. This is a very bad hotel. The food was not good. Same thing every day. I don’t recommend this hotel to anybody. I’m trying to get my money back and they keep denying talking about they give me extra stay so that’s why they can give me my refund which I came back home on September 15 cause my trip was from September 11 through the 15th. Worst experience I have ever in my first time in Jamaica.
- patgL9127QJ (2/5): Mold in rooms!! - We stayed with a group of about 40 people. This was a business trip. A few of us had issues with mold in the rooms. I usually never complain but the smell was extremely bad. My kids both had sore throats as a result. When the ceiling began leaking I finally complained and they moved our rooms. The way it was handled was not professional and I will never stay here again. I expect more from Marriot as well.
- Deebush (4/5): Negril Ain’t got to worry about me - The food was not good. The restaurants were by reservation and Barely had any reservations. Also I was there for 5 days and the restaurants were mainly closed. Good thing my expectation were not high. I came to celebrate my friends and relax. The resort was relaxing. A lot of the rooms had no hot water until the last day. I believe if the food options and quality were better my experience would have been a lot better.
- 971kevan (10/5): Excellent Choice! - The resort was beautiful! The staff was kind and helpful, making sure all needs were met. My only issue is that all the restaurants were not open daily so they would get full quickly. Even so, the buffet was excellent and had great choices daily. I will definitely go back!
- jazmines778 (2/5): Unacceptable stay at Royalton: payment issues, poor service, misrepresentation, and fraud. - My husband and I are frequent travelers who have stayed at numerous Marriott properties worldwide. Unfortunately, our recent experience at the Royalton resort was unacceptable and raises several serious concerns regarding deceptive practices, breach of agreement, and inadequate customer service.
The reservation was booked directly through the Royalton website under the “Flex Pay” option, which, as advertised, allows U.S. citizens to pay in installments. Prior to traveling, I confirmed the booking and transportation arrangements with an employee named Alicia, who advised me that upon arrival in Montego Bay, transportation would be available at desk #15. However, upon arrival, we were informed that transportation was not included, forcing us to pay additional fees out of pocket.
Upon check-in at the hotel, I was asked to provide my credit card for incidentals, which I did. Shortly thereafter, I was contacted and informed that the room reservation had not been paid in full. I explained that payment had been made through the “Flex Pay” program, but the manager on duty claimed no knowledge of such a program and insisted I make another payment with a different card. This demand constituted either a failure of internal systems to recognize confirmed payments or a disregard for the contractual terms under which the reservation was made. To avoid further disruption, I reluctantly provided another form of payment.
The operational failures extended beyond the check-in process. Service at the pool bar was inconsistent and arbitrary; bartenders contradicted each other regarding available inventory. Breakfast services were misleading, as items were claimed to be “out of stock” well before service ended, only to reappear after repeated complaints from guests. Room service options were severely limited, with menu items unavailable or substituted with inferior alternatives.
Dining access was further restricted. During our four-day stay, only one restaurant, Armadillo, was open, and the quality of the food was unacceptable, with items resembling recycled meals or low-quality prepackaged products.
More troubling was the conduct of the spa staff. While walking on the property, we were aggressively approached by a spa employee and pressured to provide our names and room number, despite making clear that we had not committed to a booking. At checkout, we discovered a fraudulent $200 spa charge for services we never authorized, requested, or received. When this was disputed, the front desk agent was dismissive, arrogant, and refused to remove the charge. This constitutes an unauthorized billing and could be construed as fraud.
In summary, the issues encountered included:
• Failure to honor confirmed transportation arrangements.
• Mismanagement of the “Flex Pay” program, resulting in duplicate payment demands.
• Misrepresentation and poor quality of food and beverage services.
• Fraudulent and unauthorized charges to our account.
• Lack of professionalism and hospitality from staff.
These issues reflect systemic operational and managerial deficiencies that fall well below the standards expected of Marriott properties. The misrepresentation of services, unauthorized billing, and disregard for contractual obligations are matters of serious concern and merit further investigation by Marriott corporate.
We respectfully request a full review of this case, reimbursement of the unauthorized $200 spa charge and any duplicate payments made due to the hotel’s failure to properly process “Flex Pay,” as well as appropriate corrective measures to ensure other guests are not subjected to similar treatment.
- ayeshag928 (10/5): Royalton Negril Diamond Club Experience Worth Repeating - As a Certified Wedding Planner and Travel Designer, I always try to view resorts through both a professional and personal lens. With that in mind, here is the sweet and sour of my recent stay at Royalton Negril for a wedding of about 100 people:
Sweet:
The Butler service was absolutely outstanding and one of the best parts of our stay. From decorating our bed to celebrate a special occasion, to running a bath for us, to anticipating our needs with genuine care, the attention to detail made us feel spoiled in the best way. Their service alone elevated the entire trip. Our room was spotless, the property overall was exceptionally clean, and the Diamond Club amenities were top notch. The private check in and golf cart service were seamless, and the grounds were beautifully maintained. The beach was stunning, and the warm inviting water felt like stepping into a giant bathtub. It truly created the perfect setting for the wedding celebration. On top of that, our transportation was smooth and enjoyable thanks to an excellent driver, which made the long ride from the airport much easier.
Sour:
The only drawbacks we experienced were small but worth noting. On two occasions, our Butler entered the room without knocking while we were dressing. The apologies were immediate and sincere, yet it is something that could be improved. The other issue was towel service at the Diamond Club beach area. Towels ran out more than once, which was disappointing given that it is a premium level section.
Overall:
Even with those minor setbacks, this resort delivered a truly memorable experience, and I would absolutely return. Next time I would stay longer to make up for the long bumpy airport transfer. Compared to other resorts I have recently stayed at, the Diamond Club here was refreshing and genuinely top tier. From both a personal and professional standpoint, Royalton Negril impressed me, and it is a property I would confidently recommend.
- EllieD9314 (8/5): Lovely but a no for Moyà and security - Went with my daughter, her husband and their two year old.
We went diamond club, me in a swim up in building one and them in a first floor with balcony in building 2.
My room smelt damp when I arrived to find Moyà from Diamond Club in the room telling me it was up to scratch. It was great apart from the damp smell and the pan shower being partially blocked with scale. They said they’d come out to clean the scale but was still the same so I cleaned it. I aired the room out and it was fk e after that. That’s all Moyà had to do.
Was pleased with the mini bar, snacks and fruit left for me.
Room cleaning was good and always got plenty of towels.
Was told I couldn’t use the diamond club bar until 10am when it told me it opened at 8am on the tv app. Why would I want to go in and get a drink be. The other bars had opened? I saw no perk in having it if it didn’t have extended hours.
Room service was good and had decent choice of items. Brought straight into my room. No hanging around for tips of you didn’t want to give. Very respectful.
I used the diamond club pool. Quieter and in the end my daughter and her family used it as my granddaughter has autism and found she had sensory overload at the kids pool.
Drinks were branded and I appreciated both a proper swim up bar and an ordinary bar.
Beach was amazing. Sellers come along the beach one at a time but aren’t allowed to approach you. You have to go to them.
Saw rats and various fishes right on the shoreline.
Water sports were readily available. All very good.
Plenty of evening entertainment and a daytime foam party in the diamond club pool.
Not enough Bali beds.
Restaurants were fairly heavily booked. Our butlers got us into a few of them. Not a great experience. Food was underwhelming and choice was very limited. If you offer only four or five menu items do them well. These were not done well.
I preferred the huge choice at the buffet.
Each meal catered for everyone. My daughter and her little family ate their fill. I love my breakfast and, if I was t that hungry at dinner could just choose from a huge selection of cheese and biscuits.
Had mimosas at breakfast. Lovely touch.
Grounds are lovely.
Beds are large and comfy.
Butlers were all nice. I didn’t ask a lot but what I did ask was done. I had the two Brian’s.
Now comes the issue.
My daughter has sensory issues and brought her own pillow and pillowcase as it smelt of home. Made her relax at night.
The cleaner came in and took her pillowcase off, despite the pillow and pillowcase being totally different to the hotel ones.
We asked for it to be found. They couldn’t find it.
Security ended up in my daughters room moving furniture, going through their suitcase and scattering their clothes etc around treating them like liars while looking for her pillow case.
Needless to say it wasn’t there.
They left leaving a huge mess which was left for my daughter to clear up.
A couple of days later my daughter’s pillowcase was found having been put through a net oil wash which changed the colour of her pillowcase so that it didn’t match with the rest of her bedding upon her return home.
She felt violated by the search.
I immediately messaged Moyà to ask why they had been searched like criminals and to this day she still hasn’t read that message on WhatsApp.
Disappointing and disrespectful.
It was fine to message me when there was no problem but the minute we get one she ignored me.
This was our only real issue.
I’d still stay there again nd Jamaica does now have a special place in my heart, but Moya and the security guards attitudes stunk. Between them they took the shine off.
- 267jagb (2/5): Terrible. - I’ve been to Jamaica many times, usually to Montego Bay, but decided to switch it up for a family trip of 40 people to Negril Hideaway Royalton. Big mistake.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear this resort was not well equipped, prepared, or even busy. The Royalton brand charges premium rates and requires bookings in advance, but if you can’t keep restaurants open, provide the liquor selections you advertise (champagne, wine, etc.), or deliver on your promises, then you should be upfront about it. Instead, guests are misled into booking something that simply doesn’t exist.
I understand it was the “slow season,” but that should never be an excuse for a brand of this size to cut corners on *every single aspect* of the customer experience. The service was equally disappointing—indifferent staff with a handful of exceptions. Jamaica is a beautiful island with warm, hardworking locals who rely on tourism, which makes it even more disappointing to see a resort run so poorly under a major name like Royalton.
Dining was one of the biggest letdowns. Only *one* restaurant was open each night, and reservations were nearly impossible to get. The alternative? A buffet that served the exact same bland food day after day. Even breakfast was cut down, with no variety whatsoever. After five days, it felt like we were eating leftovers on repeat.
Bottom line: **Do not stay here.** It is absolutely not worth the money, and you’ll be much happier spending your vacation at another resort in Jamaica where they actually care about guest experience. This was a waste of both time and money.
- loribX3254HG (10/5): Nice stay at Royalton Negril - I visited Royalton Negril September 2025, the was BEAUTIFUL, Resort 9/10, due to construction some restaurants weren’t open and food was mediocre. Resort was very clean and staff attentive! Butlers Romaine/Samantha 10/10 were an amazing team! Royalton Fit 10/10 Jovie, Garrison & Karli awesome staff. I also loved the entertainment and recommend the resort!
- Keva (10/5): - The spa was absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!! Definitely a MUST!
- tg681 (6/5): DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THE PRIME SALES TEAM - DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THE PRIME SALES TEAM. They are some of the rudest people I have ever come across Jeveon was arrogant rude and downright dismissive once informed I did not want to invest. I was told I needed their permission to leave the sales presentation!!! Then stated that he didn't care if I invested in the prime programme as he has plenty of money. Also said tgat my tour operator TUI are issued withe lowest quality rooms as standard for Royalton.
Prime sales team, why would I invest just under sixteen thousand US dollars for a ten year membership when my only experience of this group is the royalton negril which is most definitely not a 5 star resort, 3/4 star at best. An unusable swim up room. Room smells of damp. Which I could have overlooked because of the wonderful beach and hospitality staff. Reception staff friendly and helpful, coffee shop staff lovely. The beach butlers and servers excellent.
Restaurant staff very accomodating and professional. Also the lical food at the buffet restaurant is very nice. Unfortunately you cant get a reservation fir the a la carte restaurant until 9pm if ever! Lifeguards friendly helpful and kind. The teams selling excursions are also extremely friendly do not try to aggressively sell excursions/tours if you want info and prices etc. Only to happy to help. Not rude and aggressive.
How sad an aggressive and stuck up sales team has ruined an already disappointing first time visit to Jamaica.
I will never book with any of the Royalton brands. PS HOTEL UNDER REFURBISHMENT ADVISED IT WOULDNT AFFECT HOLIDAY. THEY LIED.
- sb0645 (6/5): Sun, Sand, Serenity - I spent a week with the family at Royalton Negril. Waking up to the sound of waves and watching sunsets from the balcony was pure magic.
Room: Bright, airy, and beautifully decorated. Super comfy bed and a view that made it hard to leave.
Service: Warm and welcoming staff who made every moment feel special. From check-in to check-out, everything was smooth.
Food: Variety of restaurants on-site. Whether we craved fresh seafood, international cuisine, or casual snacks by the beach, there was always something new to try. One of the highlights of our stay was the coffee shop right in the lobby. It became our morning ritual—grabbing a fresh brew before heading to the beachBeachside bar was a perfect touch.
Activities: Plenty to do—snorkeling, paddle boarding, or just lounging with a cocktail in hand.
If you're looking for a peaceful, sun-soaked getaway with great vibes and even better views, Royalton Negril is the place.
- rosesH7274EI (2/5): Calypso staff are racist - The homo waiter at the calypso is racist to Indian people. Treated us bad since he assumed we wouldn’t tip. This happened a year ago when I was a teen and it completely ruined the experience.
- Diane (8/5): -
- tiffanylI7889LI (10/5): Honest review of Royalton Negril - Our experience at Royalton Negril was nothing short of amazing! The food was exceptional, and the service from the staff was truly phenomenal. My husband and I were so impressed that we’re already planning our next visit for next year. Everything about our stay felt first-class — from the beautiful ocean view and spacious balcony in our room to the overall atmosphere of the resort. Royalton Negril offers outstanding value for money and an unforgettable vacation experience!”
- philq58 (8/5): Great Family Vacation - Great Service and Value - Family of 5, 2 adults and 3 kids ages 12, 15 & 15 visited Royal Negril the last week of August. We stayed in Diamond Club and had the best time.
The overall resort vibe is great. We would recommend doing Diamond Club. Our butlers Romaine and Oshain were absolutely amazing. They are so genuine and friendly. They made every effort to make our vacation as memorable as possible. We are grateful to have met them.
The resort is clean. Yes there was some renovations occurring, but the resort did a good job in hiding it from guests. The room we stayed in was clean and was situated in a great spot.
The a la cart restaurants were excellent. Only 1 night we couldn't get a reservation and had dinner at the buffet. The buffet is was disappointing. The food at the buffet was not very good. One of our favorite places was Scoops. The coffee at Scoops was great and the sweet treats were enjoyable.
It was a great family vacation.
- Travel44593642387 (8/5): Transportation issues through website - It was a nice experience but make sure any type of deal you get is applied to your booking. I booked a deal that had free transportation to and from the airport only to find out the day before my trip that it somehow wasn’t applied and I had to book transportation through a 3rd party.
- shalaew2024 (2/5): We will never return - As a group of 15 who are well traveled, we were extremely disappointed. The food quality was terrible, the advertised al a carte restaurants were closed. The service outside of butler service was awful, the butlers were amazing. Housekeeping was inconsistent, the jet bathtub in our room didn't work, the air-conditioning in another didn't work. We were celebrating my best friends 50 birthday. We paid for a banquet for 15 with an upgraded bar. It took 20 minutes before the entire party received their meal. Half the table had finished their meal before the other half received their food. There were so many things that were unpleasant. It was the worst travel experience.
- DayTrip806666 (2/5): A Farce and Charade - My clients are there now trip started 9/9 it’s their anniversary called and emailed the resort for complimentary banner they arrived no door banner Shantae guest service said it would be I called the day of arrival to inquire was told by someone else no banner but complimentary champagne will be sent to the room no champagne this resort is a charade two hours from airport just to be gas lighted they did the time share 90 min and was promised dinner on the beach and or couples massage only to be told they could not offer that instead was offered a 50 dollar voucher for their time . Be WARE of this place and what they claim to offer I’m praying the rest of the stay goes well as it is their anniversary . As a travel agent this will be the last time I book a client here.
- 445davinar (8/5): Royalton Negril…good value - My sister and I went for a girls trip early Sept. Things we loved: Nicely appointed rooms, most of the staff were super friendly and polite, low season meant we didn’t have to wait in lines for anything. Things that need improvement: Only one specialty restaurant open each night we were there, our room was not ready at check in time and we had to wait an hour and a half longer to get into our room. Food was ok. No oxtail was a big disappointment. All in all though, good value for what we paid for the experience.
- David (8/5): - This resort was a wonderful stay and well worth the price, unfortunately we visited during a time of remodel so our room wasn't exactly up to a high quality standard however the facilities were still some of the nicest and I've been in. The icing on the cake was staff, I've never felt so more at home and welcomed and taking care of at any resort like I've been to in comparison. If anyone is visiting the pool bar make sure to say hello to chickpea.
- colinwC7279UY (2/5): Avoid This Hotel: Unsafe, Misrepresented, and the Worst Experience of My Life - I stayed at Royalton Negril, Autograph Collection in August 2025 with my family of 16. Last year this hotel was enjoyable, but this year it has become the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I strongly advise all future travelers to avoid it.
Health and safety failures: My 88-year-old father was thrown from a wheelchair when it got stuck in a defective drain cover, leaving him with serious knee injuries. The nurse did little more than apply plasters, and management tried to make us sign a liability waiver instead of accepting responsibility. Nobody followed up, and management refused to meet with us. Cockroaches were seen in the property, and dirty dishes were left outside rooms for days, attracting rodents.
Restaurants and food: The resort advertises multiple dining options, but on most days only half the restaurants were open. Guests were forced into the buffet, which served repetitive, tasteless, recycled food. Breakfast was oily and uninspired. For an all-inclusive resort, this was unacceptable.
Basic services: Clean towels were difficult to obtain, bottled water frequently ran out, and room service often took more than an hour to arrive, despite the hotel clearly running at low occupancy.
Staff and management: Many staff were openly unhappy and spoke about their poor treatment by management, including unfulfilled commitments after last year’s strike over pay and conditions. Several said they are not even allowed to eat leftover food from the restaurants, which is both wasteful and demeaning. Morale was extremely low, and this spilled into rude and disinterested service.
Lack of compassion: My brother-in-law tragically died during an excursion arranged with the help of hotel staff. While it may not have been an official hotel activity, the involvement of staff makes the resort accountable. The most shocking part was the complete absence of basic humanity. There were no condolences, no card, no flowers, and no recognition whatsoever from management.
This resort is a disgrace to the Marriott brand. It is unsafe, unhygienic, and mismanaged. Guests are misled by glossy marketing, only to find closed restaurants, poor service, and staff who are mistreated behind the scenes.
If you value your money, safety, or your family’s wellbeing, do not book this hotel.
- tundeya2025 (10/5): A Perfect September Retreat – 5 Stars 🌞 - Just spent four nights at Royalton for a family members birthday celebration. It was everything I hoped for—pure relaxation and enjoyment from start to finish.
The resort itself was stunning, with beautifully maintained grounds, peaceful vibes, and all the comforts of a luxury escape. Our room came with three butlers, and the service was consistently attentive and seamless. A special shoutout to Brian, whose thoughtfulness and professionalism truly stood out. He made sure every detail was taken care of and added a personal touch that made our stay even more memorable.
Whether we were lounging by the pool, enjoying the food, or simply soaking in the quiet moments, this trip was the perfect reset. The hydrotherapy spa treatment was the bomb! I left feeling refreshed. Looking forward to returning with my kids
Highly recommend Royalton for anyone seeking a luxurious escape with exceptional service.
- Iboju (10/5): Paradise In Negril - I was here for a family celebration of a milestone birthday. This was my first time at the resort. From check-in at the lobby all through to the staff I interacted with daily were friendly and warm; reminding me to relax, slow down and enjoy my stay.Love.
The food offerings were more than enough, I was interested in mostly local cuisines. I enjoyed the buffet meals my daily morning latte from the Gelato shop on my way to the gym.
The hospitality offered by the resort was exceptional. Oh! The DJs also played some jams that makes you dance.
If you can, get the Diamond Club rooms. Shout out to Brian, Shelz, and Roshaun, our butlers for making the stay relaxing and all the more enjoyable. Thank you for those daily morning messages, I read them all in the morning, so thank you for those reminders. Special thank you to Brian, much appreciated.
One love. looking forward to return.
- Carlette (4/5): - I’ll start by saying Chantae was amazing and incredibly helpful before our stay at the Hideaway. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill quickly after check-in. We booked a Diamond Club Penthouse One Bedroom Suite expecting a premium experience, but it was far from it.
The jacuzzi didn’t work when we arrived and had to be fixed. There was visible mold on the couch and in parts of the room, the toilet leaked even after being “repaired,” and the AC stopped working in the middle of the night, leaving us sweating in an unbearably hot room. These are basic maintenance issues that should never happen in a high-end resort.
To make things worse, there were constant towel shortages by the pool and adults-only beach. We were told to contact our butler for towels, a small but frustrating issue that added to the overall lack of service.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and mini honeymoon, and what was supposed to be a special, relaxing trip ended up being filled with disappointment. Some of the best moments of our vacation happened off the property, which says a lot.
We really wanted to love this place, but it simply didn’t live up to the expectations or the price. A resort like this should offer a seamless, stress-free experience, sadly, that was not the case.
- Marc1977henry (10/5): Natasha martini bar - Great hotel… amazing bar staff😃 Natasha at the martini bar was the best and we are defo coming back again.. 3rd time here and love the hotel, beaches, staff baby dragon aka Kevin and prince vibe team just amazing 🤩 and don’t forget chickpea sooooooo lovely 🥰 can’t wait to come back ….renovations going on but didn’t effect our stay
- F4521JDronaldt (4/5): Royalton Negril - 2nd week of holiday, hotel seems to be winding down, only one restaurant open tonight apart from the buffet so definitely no chance of booking as usual . Only jerk chicken and patties available at pool and beach areas as usual no burgers, fries, hotdogs available for the last 6 days. Drinks always hit and miss and seem to run out all the time or the bar staff just can’t be bothered.
The whole hotel looks a bit tired and in need of a facelift with a few shabby repairs made here and there.
We’ve spotted cockroaches on the buffet floor and in the corridor to our room.
The restaurants that we have actually managed to book mainly through the concierge outside the buffet have all had issues with their air conditioning, this seems to be the norm with Royalton hotels as we had the same problem in Mexico and the Dominican Republic but this is the first time we have encountered such a lack of food and drink around the beach and pool
- 838breab (10/5): The best resort in Jamaica, because of the people! - My husband and I came to Roylfon Nigril for our honeymoon in May 2025. As frequent travellers in love with the sun, Caribbean Sea and exploring new countries we knew Jamaica would be magical.
This was the most beautiful, organized and peaceful place we have ever got the pleasures to visiting. We were accepted and welcomed with so much love!
The butlers go above and beyond every day however we had Brian and Jermaine. They were both fast assist with our requests! We felt Brian treated us like family! Sending us beautiful morning affirmations and always thinking ahead bringing us lunch and drinks- we never went empty handed! Both were so kind, great to talk to and always gave you a good laugh. They would book dinner for you, and offer you excursion options and always checking in to make sure everything was perfect ( and it was ) I would personally recommend them to anyone who goes to this resort. They will make your experience even better!
The vibe team was fire! They kept you pumped, dancing and was were so friendly and fun you couldn’t help but want to join in! We personally loved the water aerobics and all of the trivia challenges! We absolutely loved Tiny T, Strep, Starfire the most! They made the white party and neon party the best times! My husband and I could stop dancing and loving all the
Events!
Food and drinks were constantly flowing! We had amazing staff help us out all around the resort. We did stay in the diamond club area and enjoyed the perks ( and is worth every penny) everyone spoke to us like we were old friends and family! We really loved and appreciated Sacha and Jeff ( at the pool bar )
Sacvelle and Shimmy.
In all honestly because of how amazing the staff was, it is highly recommended to go there!
I have no complaints. This resort is extremely clean, and well taken care off. Our room service was always cleaned, and we loved turn down service every night to as honeymooners! This resort allows my husband and I to not only relax, but get to enjoy being young honeymooners for 2 week in our own private
Romantic holiday.
We are coming back Sept 9th 2025 and bringing our son and a friend with us! We can’t wait to visit our family and home away from Home
- 412edenas (8/5): Pool butler - Enjoyed myself. Was met with great service by one of the pool butler Jevaughen. He made sure that me and my daughter was well fed and the drinks was coming in a timely matter. He was very kind to us as well.
- MadLegit (6/5): Buyer beware - Multiple time returning guest here and likely our last. The hotel just reeks of poor business practices from the top. Low season and low occupancy, so close restaurants/services/etc. The poor staff now have to deal with guest complaints that just shouldn’t exist because of misleading marketing and bad decision making. Sure you may save some money by only having 1 or 2 a la carte open in August at a time but there is an additional cost of unhappy guests and reputation damage, is it really worth it? It’s a shame because I think most guests can live with short comings, every resort has pros and cons, but don’t set high expectations, just be honest and I think you would see a lot more 5-star reviews and a lot more people recommending the resort to friends and family. We felt like crap telling people we met during our stay that we’ve been here so many times, they laughed at us said they wouldn’t recommend it to anyone and unfortunately their reasons weren’t unreasonable. Some things like towels not being available in rooms or for the beach, etc. How do you mess that up? Especially in diamond club, this isn’t even a complaint that should show up on any radar. Grazie, the Italian restaurant, not being open like a proper restaurant but only for pizza. It doesn’t make sense, Italian is the easiest and best food for a resort to have. Especially for families, kids eat pasta, easy win if they aren’t eating at the other specialty restaurants to line up an Italian night.
The only reasons to come back are the staff and the beautiful beach. Having been here multiple times, the staff recognized us, respected us and made sure that we didn’t have problems other people had. People that have already booked and going in the next couple of weeks, please bring a reasonable and size-able tip budget to support staff and they will ensure your stay is better than what the hotel would otherwise provide and what some of the bad reviews here say.
Management responds to all of these reviews with apologies and thanks that they will keep the feedback into consideration … but will they? Time will tell.
- Moni7501 (2/5): Trouble in paradise - I will never stay at this Resort again. My check was horrible I went back and forth with the Diamond club front desk lady about a major credit card for almost 30 minutes. I had to call my travel agent several times on this suppose to be vacation for her to step in. This was a milestone birthday trip (August 23-26, 2025) for myself. My travel agent requested my room to be decorated over 30 days (July24,2025) before I arrived sent an email and receive emailed confirmation that it would be all complete. Guess what it wasn’t done my butlers weren’t informed at all. This was my first time and maybe even last time in Jamaica. This was also my first impression of this Royalton Negril Resort! The management team took no accountability for any of their mistake and issues while I was on property until I had to asked for a manager. It was one thing after another. The wait staff at the Buffett the ladies had attitudes just unprofessional. I’m a Diamond Club guest only time I felt like a diamond Club guest was with my butlers Oshain and Daron. Oshain really made a great impression on me and my family. He informed me that they will get my room decorated for my birthday. They did an excellent job!
Now back to some more issues the Diamond club pool someone had threw up in that pool 2 days in a row, no signs as to the pool being closed, no staff or life guard making sure no one got in the pool. Twins guest came over and told us and my grandson to get out of the pool.
My Diamond club bracelet didn’t work to let me in my room the entire trip on my last night their I asked the Diamond club staff to fix my bracelet, they informed me that they would have to deactivate everyone bracelets. I requested that they Not do that because we leave in the morning I just didn’t want to inconvenience my kids. The staff were very dismissal and did it anyway. This resort lacks good customer service, lacks communications and they just don’t listen. I made for Diamond club and it really wasn’t a difference from what I could tell.
Also my room also had roaches which was the icing on the cake for me. I didn’t travel across the world to kill roaches especially with my Coach sandals. We had expired orange juice in our mini bar. Again not one time did any member of management come to speak with me as they informed my travel agent that they would make sure my trip was enjoyable from there on out August 23,2025! I’m still waiting to hear from them because my birthday trip was ruin. We had matching outfits we didn’t get to put on. Let me say this we made the best of it.
I can only say my most enjoyable day was when my private driver picked us up and showed us Jamaica. Craig and his wife Debra lowkey saved my vacation trip I was ready to return home on August 23,2025. They asked me to give them a chance to show me how beautiful Jamaica is!
- I4811FWsimonl (6/5): Wouldn’t return - A reasonably nice hotel. Needs a massive refurbishment . When we booked, my wife read about a pillow menu. Forget about that. It doesn’t exist. Rooms were comfortable, but need attention . Most of the staff were good. Hats off to our butler, Franz. He made the holiday more than it would have otherwise been.
The evening’s leave a lot to be desired. The Martini bar after party is a joke. It’s just super loud music, round a bar with plastic glasses and staff with bad attitudes. The pool bar at the family side was awful. The staff were awful. Personally I wouldn’t go back. I don’t like Red Stripe. That was the only choice. This hotel is set up to cater for the American guests. I’m not one of those. British guests tend to go for a longer stay due to the distance. The entertainment is set up for a week, so week 2 is groundhog week
- T1768ODdavidl (10/5): Amazing time at Royalton Negril - Just left this resort ‘this morning. Had an amazing time. The resort is beautiful, the rooms are beautiful, the food is fantastic and there’s a great selection of it. The staff go out of their way to make sure your vacation is the best. The nightly shows were fantastic. This was my 44th time in Jamaica and Royalton made it one of my best. You won’t be disappointed.

- B7982PUerics (10/5): Staff was Amazing - We just came home from a phenomenal week in Jamaica. The staff was top notch across the board from housekeeping , wait staff, bartenders and diamond club employees. Diamond club was absolutely worth the money. As part of the diamond club, you have access to private sections at both the beach and pool areas and the better liquor options. However, the biggest plus was the butler service. We have a child with special needs and dietary restrictions. Our butlers both Brian and Moore did an amazing job making sure all requests were met. If they didn’t have it at the hotel they went off site to make it happen. They set up all our dinner reservations, brought us pool towels while we were having breakfast and even when room service was taking too long they went to the kitchen and brought my kids the food themselves. We couldn’t have asked for 2 better guys taking care of us. We did want to give a lot of credit to the vibe team as well. They kept us entertained during the day and night. Big shout outs to Tiny , Star fire, Jada and Strappe for always bringing there A game and keeping the energy lively. Also all the bartenders at the diamond club swim up bar, made sure are cups were full at all times. Our last thank you goes out to Shanece aka Peanut. She did an amazing job looking after our son at times during the day in the kids club and then at night babysitting. We were so grateful to her and her colleagues and the kids club. We really had a blast and it was 100% because of the staff. If we make our way back to Jamaica we would definitely come back to this hotel
- courtnay29 (8/5): Staff make this resort!! - We stayed for 6 days/6 nights August 20-26th.
We are from Canada 🇨🇦
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and we would return.
The rooms were clean and bed was comfortable. Housekeeping was great everyday.
The beach was absolutely beautiful and that clear warm ocean. Just perfect! One of the most beautiful beaches we have been too. Lots of snorkelling right off the beach too.
The resort itself is starting to show its age, and needs some renovations and refurbishments, which were already underway during the week we were there.
Regardless, the stay was very nice, and we were still able to get into most of the a la carte restaurants notwithstanding that they were not all open every night, as the resort moved to a more skeleton staff around as needed during its low season. The food was great, and the staff (for the most part) were all very friendly, accommodating, and genuine.
The only exception was the staff serving food at the jerk hut and the food truck. This staff seemed genuinely unhappy, unfriendly, and at times, outright rude. We stayed away after our first few encounters with them. Hey, not everyone loves a tourist I suppose.
Front desk staff could be more helpful at check in with information and a smile wouldn’t hurt.
On the other hand, BIG, BIG shout outs to Nixon and Shantel at the beach bar, Meghon, Ritchie and Tevan at the lobby bar, Kenton for his exceptional service at Grazie; Shavel and Melissa at the buffet, and let’s not forget Conrad and his infinite wisdom at the Sports bar. Lastly, a special thanks to Dale in excursions for going out of his way for us!
Thank you to all of you for making our vacation a fantastic time.
- 874ashishb (2/5): Royalton negril resort - Was at this resort from Aug 20-27. List off all issues as follows
No room - accommodation to another room
Rude service - entire resort staff
Roaches is some of the rooms
Anything you wanted to food and drinks all we heard was "we ran out"
Pool bar service - never had any worse experience in life so far
The entire experience was garbage and would never go back even if it was free
- jodiannc602 (10/5): Amazing - Esroy was amazing
He ensured that I was okay and topped up on me drinks
His smile and customer service was top notch
He was very attentive
He was the only one that paid attention to me
- Mohammed (10/5): - It was nice
- chrys2lf (2/5): Worst resort ever and very rude staff! - The worst resort ever! Started off by checking in with very rude staff, took an hour just to do that. They didn’t even offer us drinks! We stayed for a week and not once did they have a beach towel available! Then we had to change rooms 3 times because of a gas smell! The first time they waited until 1 in the morning to move us! I can go on and on., This was the worst vacation we ever experienced!! We will not be going back here!!
- Wendy (10/5): - The food needs to be better and more food options for the evening sports bar…. It was either wings burgers or fries only available
- B9027XCmoniquef (10/5): Amazing Stay at Royalton Negril Diamond Club – Butler Service Was a Game Changer! - We had an incredible time at Royalton Negril Diamond Club. The resort is beautiful, 10/10. But what really stood out was the exceptional butler service. Our butlers Oshain and Romaine were attentive, polite and always one step ahead, making reservations, setting up surprises, and ensuring our stay was stress-free and special. Highly recommend booking the butler package, it truly made our trip unforgettable! Looking to return soon.
- sister_seaborn (6/5): The Royalton in Negril - I want to start by praising all the wait staff at all the restaurants and the buffet. The hideaway pool was nice and the entertainment staff were excellent. But, the rooms were sub-par for the price needs updating and they had roaches in the buffet and rooms. Some of the staff were not pleasant and had attitudes like they didn't want to be at work. Making reservations for the restaurants was horrible. They had an App that barely worked and their internet was poor. I personally wouldn't go back.
- Norman14201 (8/5): Started out disappointed but recovered - This property has potential, however there's clearly room for improvement in relation to training and property management. The good thing is that the customer facing staff will work to address your concerns as best they can. I find the staff at Roylanton Negril to be polite and friendly. My stay was between August 19-23, 2025. There were some issues with my initial room (4013) making it necessary for a room change. The "move" process can also be improved. Thankfully there were individuals on staff who worked to correct our displeasure and ensure that our stay met the Marriott high standard. Special thanks to Chad, Valrie and Kemone, without them this trip with my 94 year old dad would not have been memorable. As a customer it can be frustrating when there is a problem and there's no one to take ownership in resolving the complaint. These 3 individuals, made sure that we were fully satisfied and our stay was pleasant. They followed-up with text and phone calls, just in case we had other issues. They should be rewarded. Overall, I will be returning to Royalton Negril with hopes that senior management will put in place more automation at check-in/check-out, improve property upkeep and take this resort to its full potential.
- 1337sunny (2/5): Hide yo kids , stay somewhere else - This is not 5 star material, I'd give this a 3 star at most. Family travels twice a year , mostly DR, Mexico , never returning to Jamaica after this experience.
Check-in : Delayed, rude staff, and veryyyy slow getting things organized.
Rooms : Clean, spacious, good views, but no AC??? Saying a whole block is having AC issues and not fixing this for 2-3 days is unacceptable, especially when travelling with young children.
Room Cleaning : Cleaners did not have a consistent schedule, sometimes 10am, or 12, or 3pm? or 5pm? Pretty annoying trying to take little kiddos back to the room and finding the cleaners slowly working away at random times.
Room Service : AWFUL! 2/5 orders were never delivered and completely forgotten about, so we just wasted 1-2 hours wondering when food would come by. "The pizza oven is broken" so no pizza to rooms? But you have a pizzeria and buffet pizza's available, yet the oven isn't working? 50% of the room service menu was not available.
Food : Good flavours, variety of food at buffet that was pretty well seasoned, jerk hut runs out quick, patties were amazing, "fryer is broken" so no French fries for the kids at times? Decent options available throughout the resort, ZEN restaurant was dope.
Buffet Service : 1/5 , barely getting cutlery at tables, begging for water to finally be poured, ask your initial drink order then forget about you, attitude if you ask for anything else.
Pool/Splash : Great vibes, entertainment team is awesome, plenty to do for the kids/adults. *** BROKEN POOL TILES *** <-- you should probably close down the resort/pool area and get this fixed, I counted 4 broken floor tiles throughout, that are extremely sharp and reported this to the lifeguard... My kiddo slit her foot on our last day, and it was pretty deep, could have been a lot worse. Seems like they know about this from the numerous apologies we got.
Elevator : SAUNA with no AC, and a huge safety issue with how fast it closes on you... For families with strollers WATCH OUT, you try walking in when the doors open and they shut on you pretty quickly. My stroller caught a beating with the doors closing on us and waking up a sleeping baby. No beuno!
Coffee/Ice cream shop : 5/5 amazing staff and drinks. Great place to cool down and de-stress after this place pisses you off!
- 655eshans (10/5): Great experience - We enjoyed the stay very well . Friendly staff and very helpful. My two Butlers Oshain and Romain was the best . They made our stay so easy and relaxing . The beach was magical and the food was great .
- Kimesha (10/5): - The property was well kept and service was excellent
Staff was helpful
- Global24426305761 (10/5): Royalton Negril - Aug 2025 Family Vacation Review - I had the absolute pleasure of being cared for by Oshain and Romaine during my stay at Royalton Negril, and I cannot say enough about the exceptional service they provided. From the moment I arrived, they went above and beyond to ensure every detail of my stay was flawless.
Both Oshain and Romaine were warm, professional, and incredibly attentive—anticipating my needs before I even had to ask. Whether it was arranging reservations, making sure my room was perfectly prepared, or simply checking in with a genuine smile, they created an experience that was seamless and stress-free.
What really stood out was the personal touch they brought to everything they did. They took the time to get to know me, remembered my preferences, and made me feel truly valued as a guest. Their teamwork and dedication made all the difference, turning a great vacation into an unforgettable one.
Royalton Negril is lucky to have such outstanding butlers on their team. If you have the chance to be looked after by Oshain and Romaine, consider yourself in the best hands possible. They made my stay absolutely memorable, and I am sincerely grateful for their world-class hospitality
- Connector33248017827 (2/5): Royalton Negril terrible - DO NOT STAY!!! This place is TERRIBLE! My style was from 8-16-25 to 8-22-25! We arrived on the August 16th and as soon as we got to our room (3103) it was warm so we went to the pool thinking it needed some time to cool. When we returned the room was ok so we proceeded with the night activities. Day 2 I put in on the ROYALTON app for service to come and check the Air conditioning but after returning to the room the air still wasn't working. I went to the front desk and told them the air isn't working and only then someone came. After that it worked for 1 days. At 2:00 am on August 19th we woke up because it was extremely hot! The AC was out again so me and my husband went to the front desk because no one was answering the phone! They switched our room just to have to switch it again because that room (4116)AC wasn't working. It was almost 5 am when they finally gave us a room (6216) with a working Air conditioning. When problems arise they are not accommodating until you act out of character when they are fully aware of issues with that resort! The food isn't the greatest, Roach in the refrigerator, the staff never has a friendly face especially the WOMEN, they are aware of a gentleman on the beach that are scamming the tourist they will not make him leave, it's all inclusive but room service doesn't bring your food and the phones in your room gets disabled at night but miraculously works in the morning, your room is supposed to be serviced and stocked but that falls short. The best part is vibe crew, The jerk hut, Zen, The nightly entertainment and Housekeeping Manager Mrs.Patricia. If they invested in Royalton Negril far as the building and property train the staff on customer service it has potential. I wouldn't recommend Royalton Negril for vacation destination to anyone!
- Edward (1/5): Never repeat - Unacceptable Turned away and not treated with the service standard
