Guest Reviews
- Laura M. R. (10/5): Incredible B&B - feels like home away from home - Super convenient location
Gracious and extremely helpful hosts - we loved all of the suggestions they provided
Great roof deck for breakfast and happy hour margaritas N/a
- Christine (10/5): Beautiful hotel, super friendly staff, extremely comfortable - The breakfast was continental but substantial. What made it particularly nice was the elegant dining table set with china and silver. Very classy! Breakfast is served in the rooftop terrace. It is airy and cheerful. In the evening there is a margarita get-together at 5:30 each evening.
The staff is particularly friendly and make you feel at home. Everything is designed for your comfort. Zero complaints. I didn't like that I had to go home!
- Lori (10/5): So glad we stayed at La Perla. Our hosts offered excellent suggestions to help us make the most out of our time in Guada - Well appointed, well located, great vibe, fantastic hosts!
- Anita (10/5): - I had a wonderful stay at La Perla Boutique Hotel B&B. The hosts and staff — Lorenzo, Lemo, Antonio, and Tere — were incredibly warm and welcoming and made me feel right at home. The hotel is beautiful and very well cared for. My room was comfortable and nicely furnished. Their rooftop provided a lovely setting to gather for breakfast each morning and margaritas in the evening. A truly lovely boutique hotel with personal service — I would absolutely stay here again.
- Jorge (10/5): My stay at the hotel was excellent from start to finish. Margaritas where excellent, great ambiance. - Such a good breakfast! Tasty, filling, and exactly what I needed to start the day. They were considerate with my tiny request. I’d happily come back for this again. Nothing to complain - outside construction was a bit loud but out of their control.
- Gail (10/5): I would definitely recommend La Perla for a wonderful experience. - Fantastic hosts, location was excellent, plenty of bars and restaurants in the surrounding area, comfort and welcome. Nothing
- Michael (10/5): Wonderful place to stay in Guadalajara - Great location, very nice accommodations and exceptional staff
- Ruby (10/5): - Lorezo is a super host, he made us feel at home and provided all the information we needed for the city tour. We will definitely be back!
- Timothy (10/5): - Lars and his staff were superb, treating us like gold from start to finish! The breakfasts provided were healthy and delicious and included lively conversations.
- Barbara (10/5): Remember classic BnBs? This is one - Beautiful older building with eclectic furnishings and collections. It was a perfect stay. Breakfast was great every morning. Lars explained the lay of the land in the city and made recommendations. Everyone was so friendly and I got a lot of Spanish practice as a bonus.
- Anna (10/5): Perfect - Everything was perfect. We actually were the only guests and had great margarita time/conversation and breakfast with Lars and Guillermo.
We'll definitely be back 💜
- Jainam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (10/5): A wonderful place to call home in Guadalajara with attentive hosts! - Convenient location in Colonia Americana, a lovely mansion, excellent breakfasts....most important, the service and attentive care from Lorenzo, Guillermo and Antonio was unparalleled. Helpful suggestions and guidance on many things to do, restaurants to enjoy, and even arranging tickets to the excellent Philharmonic performance at Teatro Degallado. A highlight were several evenings enjoying rooftop refreshments with the staff and several local guests. The team made us welcome, as guests in their home. Nothing worthy of note.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceeded expectations - Beautiful house in a great location! But what really made the visit was Lorenzo’s and Memo’s superb hospitality. Early morning coffee, a good breakfast, plentiful drinking water, personalized advice and maps, happy hour on the roof … the list goes on. Highly recommended!
- Barry (10/5): A fun active stay in Guadalajara with first-class comfort and great hosts. - There was so much attention to the details by the owners throughout our stay. If we were not sure as to an activity or place to have a meal, one of the owners would provide us with a custom map, and he would highlight the best options along our route. It was a bit warmer during the afternoon and evening than I expected, but the mornings were really nice. If I return again in April, I will not pack a jacket or long pants.
- Konstantinidis (10/5): A small GEM in a big city. - We recently had the pleasure of staying at La Perla, and it truly was an unforgettable experience. The location was perfect, and the surroundings are beautiful. Thank you to the staff for making us feel so welcomed. Can't wait to go back!!!
- Thomas (9/5): highly recommended - Four things were outstanding about our stay at La Perla. 1) The location was perfect for access to everything in Guadalajara and surrounding areas. 2) The fantastic rooftop deck and social hour (+) offered an opportunity to know the staff and other guests 3) Guidance on what to see and what to do was tailored to our specific interests 4) Everyone associated with La Perla was interesting, friendly, and knowledgeable. Advice: pick a time of year that meets your needs--hot and dry or cooler and rainy. A more substantial breakfast available earlier in the day would be nice
- Harry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leeann (10/5): My wife and I had a wonderful time! Lars, Memo and the whole staff were amazing. They really make you feel special. -
- Montserrat (10/5): Fabulous hosts! They help in everything they can. - The house makes you feel like you are in the Golden Age of Mexican Movies. The location is perfect for sightseeing or getting to other places. Great breakfast! Lorenzo makes people feel special, and all the staff is friendly and very helpful. I have nothing to say in this section since I was very happy with everything!
- Peter J (10/5): Perfect in Guadalajara - Great stay, wonderful hosts. Give yourself a break from big hotels. Central neighbourhood but quiet street. But what puts it over the top is the exceptional hospitality .. made us feel like honoured guests and friends from the get go.
- Mary (10/5): Do it again - Beautiful location, wonderful ambience and lovely people.
- Laura (10/5): - The owners are just wonderful, taking care to learn what we are interested in and making suggestions to fit each guest’s needs. They are delightful, truly caring and lots of fun. The property is well-situated within walking distance of the Historical Center and many bars and restaurants. We loved our time here!
- Veronique (10/5): Exceptional. - The hosts, Lorenzo and Guillermo, are delightful, and very informative. They made our stay exceptional from the lovely house to the delicious breakfast.
- Riad (10/5): Wonderful - An excellent destination hotel. The host pay attention to detail and guest comfort, act as your personal concierge, and could not be more giving. A stay at La Perla is an experience for the better There was nothing to criticize. Everything offered is above and beyond.
- ABDUR (10/5): - The team at La Perla went above and beyond to make our recent trip truly unforgettable. Not only did they provide exceptional accommodations and service at their beautiful hotel, but they also facilitated a personalized trip to my family's hometown. I mentioned that I had family in a town near Guadalajara that I had not seen in 30 years, and Memo suggested making the visit a reality. This is something I did not think was possible due to the distance and remoteness, but Memo put everything into action. This was the highlight of the trip and Memo quickly became a welcome guest at my family’s ranch, even leaving with parting gifts from the family.
For the other part of the trip, Lars gave us great itineraries and suggestions to see popular sights and towns with an insider’s perspective. We also met wonderful guests and shared experiences during breakfast and evening margaritas. The whole La Perla team became dear friends, making our stay at La Perla feel like a home away from home. Their warm hospitality and genuine care for their guests truly set La Perla apart.
- Susan (10/5): Exceeded our expectations La Peral in Colonia Americana - Guadalajara - Staying at La Perla feels like spending the night with friends. The hosts, Lorenzo and Guillermo, were incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. Breakfast was served on the terrace; while it wasn't extensive, it was delicious and just what we needed to start our day.
We highly recommend La Perla for anyone looking for a warm and welcoming experience. Thank you, Lorenzo and Guillermo, for making our stay so enjoyable!
- Patricia (10/5): Great stay - The best hosts ever! Lots of information and fun!
- Audrey (10/5): This was the highlight and cherished memory of our visit to Guadalajara and Mexico City. - We absolutely LOVED the Staff!!! Lars and Guillermo made us feel like family. The hotel offers a blend of beautiful and arty texture that is visually appealing, yet also comforting. Breakfast courtesy of Antonio, the soft boiled eggs, the yogurt and fruit- the start of the day- delightful. Best of all, was the companionship of Lars and Guillermo and the margarita hour(s) on the rooftop. OMG- Can't say enough of how much we loved staying here. Purpose of the trip was to return to Guadalajara after living here decades ago (spouse in med school). Could not have picked a better place to stay.
- Eugene (10/5): - This place is beyond great, and I feel compelled to elaborate on my extraordinary experience there! As a solo traveler on my first trip to GDL, I wanted to stay in a smaller venue, and La Perla delivered. The house is just beautiful and conveniently-located. The room (I booked the Grand Queen) was attractive, well-decorated, spotless and roomy, and kept clean and well attended to by Teresa. And while everything about the physical space was great, my love for this hotel was about its people. Lorenzo and Guillermo were so friendly and attended to every detail. Breakfast on the rooftop with the whole crew was so enjoyable and informative. I immediately felt I was amongst friends, and was treated as such. Antonio prepares a great spread and was also much fun to be with. The highlight of my trip, among many close contenders, occurred on my last day when I booked a tour with Guillermo to the pyramids of Guachimontones and to Tequila. Guillermo gets to know each guest and tailors each trip accordingly, giving great history and mini-detours along the way. I fell in love with La Perla and will be back!
- Rita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Virginia (10/5): nothing short of amazing. BOOK NOW. You'll come alone, and leave with family. - everything was amazing, from the rooftop margaritas, the information about the city, the whole beautiful house, and the staff shouldn't be called that. They're family now! not a single thing needs to be changed.
- Rodriguez (10/5): Exceptional - This hotel is a real "gem"! It's in a great location for sightseeing and restaurants. The staff was efficient, friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Great price, too. It deserves a great review.
- Helen (10/5): I can’t imagine a better welcome in Guadalajara - Margaritas on the roof terrace in the evening were the highlight of our stay in this one of a kind b&b, a perfect time for stories of our day and recommendations for tomorrow !
Beyond that all the important little things were covered, from plenty of towels in the bathroom to coffee on the landing at 7, maps for walking and a decent hairdryer!
Truly we felt like welcome guests of Lars and Memo in this lovely house in a beautiful peaceful part of town!
- Jayma (10/5): Rollin & Jayma loved everything! - The hospitality was superb. Guests are treated like friends and family. We highly recommend and will stay at La Perla each time we visit Guadalajara!
- Janet (10/5): - The hosts were extremely helpful and friendly for first time visitors. They walked us to places in the neighborhood and supplied great personalized maps and information. The place was immaculate and beautiful. Overall, one of the best stays we have ever had in over 30 years of travel throughout the world. Highly recommend a stay of any length at La Perla!
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joe (10/5): The accommodations and rooftop bar and breakfast setting made it for a lot of fun! - Breakfast was great and table setting was fabulous. The host was very informative and a lot of fun to takñlk to. Everything was great and will return
- James (10/5): This experience goes to the top of our long list, we’re still 😊 - Wonderful spot in ideal setting. Staff kind, helpful, very fun and personable. Excellent breakfast each am and gathering for margaritas each evening. I would return to Guadalajara just to stay there… although the community offers a lot.
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful stay, fabulous hosts. So warm and helpful and generous with their time and tips. We left feeling like family
- Emily (10/5): - Amazing stay at a truly charming B&B! Beautiful atmosphere, fabulous hosts, great staff and overall a really wonderful experience. If you want to stay somewhere special, charming, and welcoming, this is the place for you. The hosts literally make you feel like family, are there to help with everything you may need, the food and drink are delicious, it is clean and SAFE. We look forward to returning soon!
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (10/5): A great experience! - La Perla is not only a wonderful boutique hotel, but it's much more! It's really an experience! Lorenzo, Guillermo and Antonio treat each guest as a member of the family, and the interaction with them, and other guests, is what makes the experience totally unique and special. They are warm, engaging hosts who quickly make you feel like friends. They are also very knowledgeable about Guadalajara and the surrounding area, and can offer very helpful hints (and personalized, hand drawn walking maps) of Guadalajara, Tlaquepaque, Tonala’ or whatever. Every night everyone (remember, this is a very small hotel, so we’re talking about maybe one or two additional guests) meets up in the rooftop bar for Lorenzo’s frozen margaritas (or bring your own wine or drink of choice), and the hosts show an enthusiastic interest in what you did, and can provide a lot of perspective on what’s you share, from a local’s point of view. Breakfast is delightful, and again, everyone is in attendance, and the conversation is engaging and informative, and can help you plan your day’s activities, or just be fun repartee. Of course, if you prefer privacy or to do your own thing, you can choose to do that too. The hotel itself, from the entrance to the common areas, to the breakfast room, to the rooftop bar, to the rooms themselves, is extraordinarily tastefully decorated and feels more like a curated showcase, without feeling fragile, or like you have to walk on eggs. It's a complete experience!
- Daniel (10/5): Truly a wonderful experience. The owners and staff were exceptional and I felt like we were among friends. Their guidanc -
- Nadia (10/5): Exceptional - We had absolutely wonderful stay at La Perla. The hotel used to be a house and has very homey feel. We had very warm welcome from Lorenzo and Guillermo followed by all useful information about the surroundings and the city. I was also impressed by a beautiful decor of the table and the dining room for our breakfast.
The location could not be better, there are so many restaurants and bars you can walk to and everything open quite late. We would definitely stay again!
Thank you very much Lorenzo, Guillermo and Antonio
- Margaret (10/5): Wonderful Hideaway in Guadalajara - La Perla Hotel was one of the best experiences we have had, from our curbside welcome to waving good byes, it was magical. Lars and Memo run a personalized boutique hotel and were a wonderful part of our stay. The house is in a tree-filled residential part of Colonia Americana which is close to the MUSA, the Expiatorio, and lots of restaurants. Our room was quiet, well-lit and spacious. Lovely bathroom in a remodeled vintage home, with up to date features but within the charm of vintage Guadalajara. Margaritas on the rooftop patio are a must. Breakfast was healthy and delicious, with Lars and Memo joining us for more lively conversation. Plenty to eat and do in the area. Lars shared his personalized maps of the city (with restaurant recs), Tonala, Zapopan, and Tlaquepaque, making these excursions a dream. We took advantage of the Sunday street closure to explore further and faster on foot. Lars and Memo are perfect hosts, we look forward to our return, we have made new friends!
- Echo7waves (10/5): If you want an interpersonal experience in Guadalajara, La Perla is a must! - Lars, Guillermo, Toño, Javier & Tere will make your stay unforgettable. It is a personable stay and you will feel like you went to stay at a friend's house. The B&B house is beautiful, it has a lot of classic character in both the interior and exterior, gorgeous decor and artwork, unique pieces and furniture. Exterior garden, private parking, and located in a safe and exclusive colonia (neighborhood). They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and homey. Welcome margaritas at the terrace await you the first evening. The hosts will wait to have breakfast with you at your desired time and will help you plan your visit to the land of Tapatios (the inhabitants of Guadalajara). Nothing that we didn't like.
- Lance (10/5): The attention to detail, personalized service, combined with warmth and fun made La Perla fantastic! - Staying at La Perla was like becoming friends with lovely people who have exquisite taste, warmth, and a caring interest in making you feel comfortable enjoy Guadalajara. Actually, it was that. Lars, Memo, and Antonio made us feel so welcome that I can't wait to go back and stay with them again! They got to know us and personalized recommendations in Guadalajara that made the trip even better than expected. I felt well cared for, in a great neighborhood, with a place that felt like the Mexican grand home of my dreams. I liked everything. Kuddos!
- Beverly (10/5): It was a pleasure staying here and we will definitely return. - Our room was spacious and comfortable with a very comfortable bed. Beautifully decorated. The bathroom was large with a great walk-in shower. The property is very centrally located in a quiet, interesting area. Breakfast was delicious and the hosts were warm, welcoming and very helpful. Absolutely nothing. We loved everything.
- Kelly (10/5): easily one of the nicest places I’ve stayed at and I’m a seasoned traveller, it’s a great location too surrounded by bar - what’s not to like! this place is fantastic
but what really makes it is the incredible team ♥️ from the fabulous margaritas on the roof Terrace to the wonderful breakfast , I felt like I was staying with friends I really can’t say enough about how fabulous they all was, my holiday would not have been the same without them, they go out of there way to make sure you have everything you need and then go a extra mile, if I could give 100 out of ten I would. I feel sad to leave them….please do not hesitate to stay here, you will not regret it for one second
thank you for such a great holiday! that I didn’t stay longer! 😀
- Janice (10/5): - Awesome hosts! So helpful, hard working and charming! Will be staying here again on our next trip to Quadalajara!
- Ken (10/5): An enjoyable stay La Perla Hotel. We highly recommend staying here. - Breakfast was good excellent. Coffee was ready at 7 am for the early birds. Lots of fresh fruit, granola and bread. Our hosts Lars and Guillermo were most accommodating and friendly. Our room and balcony were very comfortable. No negatives. All was great.
- Caroline (10/5): Lorenzo and Guillermo and their staff made our stay in Guadalajara unforgettable in so many wonderful ways; the concept - one of a kind! nothing to say
- Leslie (10/5): A perfect respite before heading home. - I chose La Perla for the end an extended Mexican adventure. This gracious mansion became the loveliest nest. And the staff became my tribe. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed and comfortable. Breakfast and evening Margarita hour on the rooftop were true highlights. Can't say enough good things about the people who run this. They take great care of you, and are the best guides to this interesting city. Guadalajara is a big city, so it's a bit loud on the nearby arterial, and some of the buildings have not been kept up. But as I said, it's a big Mexican city, so that comes with the territory.
- Joe (10/5): Exceptional - The facility was beautiful and the staff is super welcoming and made us feel at home. Nothing. Everything was perfect.
- Ivon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melinda (10/5): Hospitatlity, comfort and beauty abounds at La Perla. - We especially liked the old-fashioned bed and breakfast concept of getting to know the staff and guests, discussing what we hoped to do and then later sitting around margaritas at the rooftop bar, or in the living room, and disussing our day - along with stories of similar experiences we have had while traveling. Lars hearty laugh, as he listened to our stories, often made the day. We stayed for a week, so it would have been nice to have a bit more variety at breakfast.
- Davila (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): We loved our stay at La Perla and will return! - We loved the location, ambiance and the incredibly friendly and helpful hosts at La Perla. The property is an historic home in Guadalajara, beautifully restored and decorated. My friends and I felt instantly welcomed by Lorenzo and everyone who was there to help us get settled, comfortable and just enjoy the vibrant city of Guadalajara. We all loved sitting on the roof, drinking margaritas and meeting the other guests. It is truly a magical place!
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Darlene (10/5): - When you stay at La Perla, it feels like coming home. From the moment that your taxi drops you off in front of this beautiful hotel and staff greet with open arms, everything about their experience reinforced how much care has been put into making sure every guest feels welcome—even if only for a short time! The rooms are decorated beautifully yet still provide all modern amenities; there's always activities happening nearby or on site such as happy hour outdoors on the rooftop terrace. Serenity everywhere ~this place is magic!
- Aine (10/5): - The layout and decor of the building--gorgeous, evoking an earlier time. The real draw, however, is the spirit of hospitality, the care for each guest's specific needs. Lars and Memo are wonderful hosts. It's worth the trip to Guadalajara just to stay at La Perla!
- JohnWinston (10/5): - La Perla was an amazing place to stay.
The hotel: The room was quiet at night, and I could also keep it cold with the air conditioning and dark with the window shutters. As a gay man, I chose this hotel as it is gay friendly and was not disappointed. The hotel is rumored to be haunted - and I do think a ghost turned on a light in my room while I was sleeping. I wasn't scared - but rather happy that I had a story to share at breakfast.
Speaking of breakfast: every morning was a continental breakfast with breads, jam, fruit, juice, eggs, water, and coffee. The conversation with the hosts and the other guests lingered some mornings and never felt rushed.
The hosts: They gave me as much privacy as I wanted but also were as engaged when I needed. Lars provided a wonderful walking tour which allowed me to see the centro and also feel immediately connected. Thanks to Lars and Guillermo I learned how locals eat lunch for 70 pesos, I learned about options for nightlife, I saw the Independence Day parade, I experienced a shopping mall, and much more. The hotel has a happy hour at the end of the day which again never felt rushed and was a great way to meet the other guests and compare daily activities. I felt like a long time friend of Lars and Guillermo. I loved the email notes received weekly before my trip which helped build my excitement about the trip!
Location: A short uber ride to other parts of town.
- ekaterina (10/5): Wonderful B&B and a wonderful host. - Wonderful B&B with a wonderful host. The property is located in the heart of Guadalajara and is perfect for explorers of the city. The rooms are comfortable and charmingly decorated. The host and the staff are very helpful in every aspect, from directions and attraction suggestions to even moving of the breakfast time to accommodate our departure for the airport. High marks on everything.
- Gary (10/5): - What a great hotel.
- Douglas (10/5): WOW! - An amazingly wonderful experience. From meeting us as our cab pulled up to taking us on a 3 hour “walkabout” to the beautifully decorated home we were more than pleased. The team was always available to answer questions and offer suggestions. Breakfast was great each morning as well as wine offered every evening.
- Nors T (10/5): Loved our stay at La Perla! - Lorenzo and his team are wonderful hosts! They are really taking care of you. Also, the hotel is beautiful and is worth a stay by itself. Besides, the location couldn’t be any better: less than 15 min walk to the center and 7 min walk in the other direction to an area with great restaurants.
We enjoyed the breakfast, the people and our beautiful room upstairs! Definitely will stay there again.
- Alberto (10/5): Extraordinario - Una experiencia muy agradable, la amabilidad y servicio de los anfitriones incomparable. De las mejores experiencias de viaje que he tenido en la vida.
- Schizmo (10/5): Best B&B in Guadalajara - A charming boutique hotel in central Guadalajara located close to many historic landmarks. The rooms are all quite lovely and comfortable. The mirador or rooftop patio offers great views of this wonderful, vibrant Mexican city. Originally a mansion built for a 40's Mexican movie star, this B&B will make your stay in Guadalajara most memorable.
But the real reason to stay at the La Perla is because of the staff. Owner/manager Lorenzo (Lars) was born to run a B&B. He makes all his guests feel like family. Stay a few nights and you will get to know the staff as friends for life. If you are lucky, Adrian will give you a walking tour the historical city center. The staff bends over backwards to make your stay unforgettable and enjoyable.
Our flight into Guadalajara arrived very late and nearby restaurants were already closed. The after hours ham sandwich prepared for us was perfection and a perfect example of how La Perla goes out of its way to make you feel at home.
La Perla has it all-- even a ghost! And you will learn the history of this amazing B&B though a series of anticipatory emails that Lorenzo sends to guest to prepare them for their visit. Highly recommended!
- Kate (10/5): - Stop looking right now. This is it. You have found it. The absolute best B&B that this city has to offer. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left, I was positively thrilled with everything about this place and the wonderful people who make it thrive. The rooms are gorgeous. The location is perfect for sightseeing. The kind and engaging people who work at La Perla will make you feel that you are among friends and help you feel at home in any way they can, from coffee and pan dulce and assisting you in making plans for the day at breakfast, to a tour of the Historical Center of Guadalajara, advice on where to eat dinner, and engaging conversation over a glass of wine in the evening. They do it all. I loved everything about this wonderful spot. But most particularly as a woman traveling alone, I really appreciated the support in finding my way around and especially that there was always someone waiting up for me until I get home in the evening (no matter how late). You will feel at home here: Lorenzo and his fine crew will make sure of that. Don't look any further. This is the place.
