Guest Reviews
- Jennifer (10/5): - Unique, charming inn. We really enjoyed our stay. The inn was quiet, clean with a wonderful setting. We enjoyed the pool, sauna, outdoor areas and breakfast. I would stay here again.
- Heather (8/5): - The room was clean and the place is charming with an outdoor area that includes porch swings, a fire pit, and Adirondack chairs. It would have been better to have an even numbered room with a balcony facing the woods, but we were on the parking lot side and they told us it was the last room. The staff is not very friendly and did not apologize when we had to wait a long time to check in. The pool area was a little worse-for-wear with peeling paint—but the plants throughout the building were healthy and thriving. The breakfast area was clean and well organized and stocked.
- Jayme (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay in this quaint, rustic, and affordable hotel. Would look at returning for another stay.
- John (6/5): - An older property, a little rough around the edges. Noisy. Could hear kids romping upstairs.
- Alicia (8/5): - The property is beautiful. The only two things i didnt like was the fact that they didnt have enough face towels. Also, there is no elevator and no one to help carry heavy baggage up a flight of stairs. Its also wise to have a car. There is anything around other than a pizza place for dining. I definitely plan on coming back.
- Molly (8/5): - Our stay at the Spring House Inn was fine. It wasn't stellar, it wasn't awful. The place is dated. And every creaking floor tells that story. There is a weird smell throughout - if it's not bleach, it's something floral mixed with bleach and all the halls had Glade Plug Ins in them. Breakfast was fine for a free meal. Pretty identical to places like Super 8 or Econo Lodge. Parking was easy but areas of the lot need repair - there are only 2 handicap spots though right in front. Unos was pretty good. Good service and nice to be able to walk there.
- Vicki (10/5): - Lovely place. Good location for exploring National Park.
- Beverly (4/5): - Room lighting was ridiculous. We could hardly see. Furniture needs to be touched up.
- yelena (10/5): - good hotel
- John (8/5): - We enjoy our stay.
- Lillian (4/5): - If you have issues with strong scents, do NOT stay here. The smell of cleansers/chemicals permeated everything. They have a beautiful firepit area, though.
- Marisa (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay except for one thing. We booked a double queen room for a family of 4. There were only 2 washcloths in our room. We had to ask twice to get more and both times were told we needed to bring our dirty ones to them to get 2 more. When we told them we needed 2 more to have enough for our family they gave us a hard time and didn’t seem to want to give them to us. Not sure why washcloths were so hard to come by especially when we were just trying to get enough for everyone in our family to have 1.
- Patricia (6/5): - Air unit had a smell, room was humid
- Joshua (10/5): - Awesome stay
- Rosa (10/5): - It was my first time staying there. I truly enioyed the view from my balcony. I didn't get to go to the sauna. Next time though. A beautiful, comfortable place to stay. I highly recommend staying for a night; or, two.
- Selenia (8/5): - The location is very convenient to the national and state park.
- Dianne (10/5): - Spring House Inn was quiet, very clean, helpful staff and while an older facility, I told my family that it would be a great place to relax and enjoy for a group that wasn’t too rowdy. Owners are taking care of this place. I really liked the nice clean pool, the breakfast and seating areas, and the short walk across the parking lot to a secluded restaurant… Pizzeria Uno! Would stay here again.
- Makayla (6/5): - Our first room had a strange, strong odor. Kind of like urine but I assume it’s a cleaning product. The lower level was a bit musty but it’s an older hotel and I knew that when I booked, so I can’t complain about the problems with an older facility. The decor and everything was very cool. It’s a cozy hotel. The staff was helpful and changed our room without any troubles. The sauna had the same strong odor when pouring water on the stove. Probably needs a deep clean. The room was clean, cute, and spacious. Everything worked properly. Breakfast was okay, the coffee machine is nice. I would stay here again because it’s a unique place and I’m not super picky. There are improvements that could be made but I had a good time here and again, staff was great.
- Julie (8/5): - The main areas inside are really nice and there are seating areas outside. It's in a beautiful wooded area and super close to the national park. Our room had a smell like urine and stale cigarette smoke, but we would consider staying again.
- Andrea (10/5): - IT WAS WONDERFUL! I was here for a work trip but i will be back for a personal vacation
- Jason (6/5): - The hotel was clean. The mattress was aged and painful on the pressure points. The parking area can use better lighting and signage directing to the entrance. The price was correct for the accommodation.
- David (10/5): - It was an old hotel with alot of charm. There breakfast was good and well taken care of. They have an in door pool and workout room. A pizza/bar that is on the property. We were there for 3 days we did alot of relaxing and needed it. I would definitely stay again.
- WILLIAM (2/5): Not good - My room smelled so bad of musty dampness I had to change rooms, then in the new room I had to move the chair to fix the curtains so outside light wasn't blasting in and found a full humidifier. After empting the water basin it ran all night !
- Angela (10/5): - It was clean. No elevator. But it is just one way up or down. Every thing else was good
- Kristen (10/5): - Very cute.
- Evan (10/5): - I love staying here
- Rebecca (10/5): - The little spot was a nice getaway for us. The ambiancs is cute cottage like, filled with beautiful antique decor. Our room had a balcony out the back that sat along the woods. They were very clean, meticulously so, and the area was nice and quiet. Its a nice spot to stay for the price, and an even better spot for couples who are one a weekend getaway to the dunes.
- Wendy (10/5): - The place is comfortable, clean and safe. We liked it a lot.
- Sherry (10/5): - We loved the atmosphere here. It was so different than a typical hotel. Everything was clean and the breakfast was great! I would recommend this place and if we get the chance, we will definitely stay here again!
- Charles (6/5): - This property is under renovation.
- Pam (8/5): - Nice heated pool. Balcony faces woods. Breakfast was good.
- yvette (6/5): - Continue to remodel and the establishment will be fine
- Alan (10/5): - Nice heated pool and sauna. Also was able to build a fire outside in the swinging area around the fire pit!
- Eric (6/5): - Near Indiana Dunes made this spot very convenient.
- Connie (8/5): Quaint hotel, comfortable, met our needs - Quaint hotel, seems like it is slowly being updated and refurbished. Rooms were comfortable but they could not accommodate our adjoining request, but did give us next door rooms but only available on second floor, and no elevator made it a bit difficult. Pool was also down a flight of stairs. Rooms were clean, but balconies were very dirty/spider webs, etc. they need a good power wash and repaint. Same with pool area, needs some attention to walls, doors, patio. Breakfast was good, enough options for family. Cost was a lot for the area but very limited options, so that’s probably why. Uno pizza next door was yummy but service very slow. Everyone at the hotel was very nice, even had some fun little plastic animals hid around on Sat morning that the grandsons loved searching for.
- Sue (8/5): - Quaint accommodations. Bathrooms were updated.
- Katherine (10/5): - Very nice place to stay! I hope to be back.
- Robin (6/5): - The property is being worked on to make the experience better. Is an old place they are trying to make look newer. Ceiling fan in room was covered in dust. Bring your own pillows as I had to use 3 to get comfortable. The outdoor swing area is very nice.
- Sanbrita (8/5): - Cute cabin like feel. Clean. Breakfast was standard. No room service but we were there 2 nights so were ok. They appeared understaffed but everyone was pleasant.
- Bradley (8/5): - Older hotel being refurbished Alot kids there staying was kinda loud at times the rooms. For the price and location was perfect for a dune getaway
- Sergiy (4/5): Do not recommend to stay. - Poorly maintained and lack of service. Namely: bed had spotty sheet, all doors need extra push to open, the shower was half working, there are spiders in the bathroom and spider webs on the balcony, and finally a sharp nail was sticking out right at the exit to a balcony. The replaced only the sheet and all the rest ignored. Do not recommend to stay.
- Lewis (10/5): - Nice little Inn, great and friendly staff, really clean place, only thing to note is that the rooms could use a little touch, woodwork and furniture.
Definitely gives you “The Shining” vibe if you know what I mean.
- Tracy (10/5): - Close to Indiana Dunes. Rooms were clean and bed comfortable. Free breakfast & parking. Staff were friendly.
- Lisa (2/5): - The room smelled bad. It needed repairs. The bathroom room shower had no way to stop the water from going out. The breakfast was good but the sausage.
- Lori (10/5): Going back in time - Lovely front desk host. He informed us that they’d be painting the hall and it would be inconvenient navigating around the workers in the morning. For $17 more, we got a suite with a hot tub instead, in an area unaffected by the painters. Although outdated, the hotel was quaint.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very happy, relaxing stay - We stopped through on a weekday during the off season. Our stay was clean, comfortable, and blissfully quiet. A huge thunderstorm blew through overnight and the walls are so insulated we barely heard it. The forest view from our room was serene. The staff was friendly, and the breakfast area was clean and well stocked.
- ENYI (10/5): - Perfect
- Dave (10/5): - Beautiful property.
- Colleen (10/5): - Charm
- Angela (10/5): - The Spring House Inn is a beautiful property with all the essentials to make it an exceptionally clean, beautiful, retro, woodland retreat. Our King Suite had a hot tub in the room and we had our own balcony, overlooking the spring!
We stayed here one night on our way to Detroit from La Crosse. We were supposed to drive North to Lake Superior after Detroit but decided to come back to the Dunes Area so we can explore and get some down time at the Spring House Inn. The Speakeasy and Uno Pizza is in our near future too. 😀
- justin (10/5): - Great stsy
- Teresa (8/5): - Property is very quiet & peaceful. We did not have time to explore the grounds. Inside rooms in need of update & furniture. It was okay for 1 nights stay. Uno Pizza next door -not friendy waitress, long wait for lg pizza, all sauce is dumped on top. Not impressed.
- Gustavo (6/5): - Safe
- Steve (8/5): - Nice stay, average staff.
- Pamela (8/5): Beautiful and relaxing - Lovely and quiet 1950s chalet inspired public spaces lead to interior corridors and well-maintaned rooms.
I was in room 215 and everything worked perfectly. I had a good night's stay but the room did have an unpleasent whiff of ammonia. I sniffed the beds and chairs (yep, weird, i know) but couldn't identify the source. In the morning I wondered if maybe they have feral cats just outside this first floor window? Full disclosure, my sense of smell is overly good at times, so your mileage may vary.
Otherwise, fantastic stay.
- william (10/5): - Nice, quaint, woody hotel near the Dunes.
- Karin (10/5): - I absolutely loved this place. Very quaint, loved the decor. Set in the woods. Very cool Pizzeria Uno next door, which used to be a speak easy. Staff is friendly and helpful. I wish we had more time here, but this was a quick overnight stop on a long road trip. Rooms were comfortable and good size, there’s a sauna and an indoor pool. I heard the breakfast is really good we left too early to enjoy it. Would definitely stay here again!
- Audrey (8/5): - Nice but maybe needs an update or two
- CHRISTINE (10/5): Great placr - Very cool place. Wish they had firm pillows. Other than that great place.
- Alexandra (8/5): - This place is absolutely haunted. Everything feels dated and kind of grimy without being actually dirty, if that makes any sense. My husband complained about a weird smell on the third floor, but thankfully we were on the second. I'm pretty sure that there are only two people working in the hotel at night, because the guy who checked me in was also running the Pizzeria Uno next door. Our room did have a very nice balcony that I enjoyed relaxing on. The landscaping around the hotel is well maintained and the overall setting in the woods feels very cozy. It is also very close to Indiana Dunes National Park, so getting around was incredibly convenient.
Overall, the location has a creepy sense of abandonment, like it's on its last legs, but the staff that remains is doing its best to keep everything looking nice.
- Constance (4/5): - The place needs renovated badly. $169 a night was way too much money for the room we got.
- jasmine (10/5): - I feel better breakfast options but everything else was perfect
- Eugene (8/5): - Clean spacious room. Enjoyed the pool and sauna. Good breakfast in the morning.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly staff. Clean room. Drapes made the room dark and nice for sleeping in! Nice breakfast choices. Pool was closed for maintenance for part of one day, but fixed in a very timely manner to open by that evening. Staff addressed any concerns we had (one key card didn’t work and one wouldn’t open the exercise room - small issues) very promptly. WiFi worked well. Pizza place next door was good and really convenient. Nice outdoor seating options. We have two 9-year olds and didn’t feel anything was not kid friendly, but kids (under 18) are not allowed in sauna, exercise room, whirlpool rooms, or unattended in the pool - nothing we thought was inappropriate for 9 year olds, but may be more annoying for older kids or teens. One thing that we thought was a bit odd was the vast number of signs (many just typed pieces of paper) with “rules” written and posted.
We stayed 2 nights for a trip to Indiana Dunes. Was an easy 15 minute drive to West Beach. Also went into Chesterton one afternoon. Winery was nice and lots of other shops and eateries.
We’ve always done an AirBnB further away for this vacation but thought we’d try something new this year. Whole family voted to return here next time over the AirBnB.
The woodsy setting is nice and appreciated that it wasn’t a typical chain hotel experience. Close enough to everything to be convenient but set aside enough to still feel peaceful.
- Sean (10/5): - Very cozy woodsy bring the kids!!
- Jody (10/5): Woodsy retreat near the Dunes - A comfortable, quaint, clean spot. Nice outdoor seating areas with swings. There's a bar and an UNO Pizzaria (not the chain)on site that was pretty delicious. Beautiful woodsy area with a stream behind the building that our balcony overlooked (lots of birds to watch). Didn't use the pool or sauna but they were open. Pretty easy to get to the parks and dunes in the area. Definitely will go back with the family
- Mary (10/5): - Quaint
- Travis (4/5): - The room is dated and poorly maintained with wall paper peeling, broken laminate, holes in the walls, chipped doors and a towel bar falling pulling out of the wall. Room was musty and smelled pretty bad. There was no staff at the front desk for 15 minutes upon arrival though I had confirmed my late arrival time earlier when they called. Very overpriced for the quality and amenities being provided.
- Ashley (10/5): - We enjoyed staying at the Spring House Inn! The room was clean and spacious. There were great options at the continental breakfast. The staff was friendly & helpful! Our stay was great!
- Doug and Ruby (10/5): - We were surprised there was no elevator. Would've booked a ground floor room.
- Nancy (6/5): - The extreme humidity has created mildew issues and the carpets are heavily scented to stop the smell. We had to leave to feel better after the 1st night and then upon returning, it seemed better.
- Aron (8/5): - Easy check in although there is no early check in option but the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast has an adequate selection but all of the egg and sausage options offered were cold at 7 am when the breakfast opened so we had to heat that up in our room’s microwave because there isn’t a microwave in the dining area. Otherwise, great location and there’s a small pizza place/bar right in the same complex. I would stay here again.
- Brenda (10/5): - Beautiful inn set off in a wooded area with lovely landscaping and cute outdoor seating area. Room was clean and quiet. Staff was very nice. Property was very close to Indiana Dunes.
- Robert (4/5): Need updates - Needs sprucing up. Water leak in hallway. Pool closed for service. Breakfast was very good.
- JaDee (6/5): - There were many things about this property that I liked. It’s charming on the outside and the indoor pool is a great feature. After a long day hiking, and then driving, the last thing I wanted to have to deal with was incompetency at the front desk. The young man was extremely pleasant and engaged me in conversation. He was also knowledgeable of the property and provided me with essential information. Unfortunately, he also informed me my credit card was declined. After spending time on the phone with my bank, it was determined my card was fine and the problem came probably from improper input of the numbers. I never thought to ask to have him run the card again because I was so tired, but that was not a pleasant way to start our stay. The whirlpool in our room was lovely. The refrigerator was nice and cold upon arrival and there were plenty of places to put our hiking gear. The breakfast was adequate. We were happy we got up early to eat before the crowds arrived. The waffle maker takes quite some time! I would definitely stay here again and this time would make use of the pool!
- Amos (10/5): - Nestled in the woods it was a nice place to stay. The room was very clean and the staff were very friendly.
- Jason (10/5): - Very pleasant stay for family of 4. Loved the grounds of the property and inside was very welcoming. I would stay again.
- Laura (8/5): Good but not great. - The property is a little dated but otherwise pretty nice. My room had a musty smell to it. Probably due to the whirlpool in the bedroom which I didn’t even use. Not in a walkable area as it’s pretty remote but there’s an Uno’s Pizza next door. The check-in took a while as only one person was working the front desk and many showed up at once. Overall it was good but not great.
- Deborah (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay at Spring House Inn. It reminded us of staying in a state park lodge. It is on a large property with a creek, lots of trees, plenty of parking.
Our room was large, clean, and quiet. Breakfast offerings included eggs, sausage, waffles, and yogurt. The hotel is very convenient for a visit to near-by Indiana Dunes National Park (visitor center is about a 6 minute drive). We would stay again.
In terms of feeling safe and nearness to the park, the surrounding area is great. It is very residential. There is a pizza restaurant next door. No other shops or businesses in the surrounding blocks.
- Larry (6/5): Lake of TLC - Property was very dated with a lack of TLC. The room had a musty smell, pictures used online must have been old. Paint pilling from the walls in the pool area.
- Amy (10/5): - We stayed for one night after going to the Dunes. We we're very pleased! Beautiful grounds, friendly staff, very clean, quaint and cozy! We would definitely stay again! The price is right too! 😉
- Mark (10/5): - The property was very nice, clean and quiet. The rooms were big and quiet. The staff were very good.
- Kandice (10/5): - Breakfast was good, staff was helpful and friendly! It’s a unique place in a wooded area which made for a good experience.
- Jeff (10/5): Nice older Inn - It is a very nice older Inn.Bed is very comfortable, indoor pool, sauna, Uno next door is a nice Bar/Pizza. Everything is pretty close. Dunes are about 3miles away. Very Recommended.
- Elizabeth (6/5): - The property itself was unique. Despite the decor being very dated, the property still seemed clean enough. The breakfast was at best ok. The pool had very cloudy water. I stayed for two nights and they do not refresh your towels which is fine, however I did ask for some clean wash cloths and the front desk would only give me clean ones if I brought him my dirty ones. I thought that was very strange. The location is good for visiting the Indiana Dunes. Overall it was just ok. Also FYI, there are no elevators so if you are staying here try to ask for a room on the main floor. They did accommodate that request
- Geoff (10/5): - The surroundings were beautiful and quiet. Liked how kitchy the building
- Katelyn (10/5): - Beautiful and unique property!
- elaine (8/5): - It reminder me of a german house. Everything was clean but it was old . No elevator but the ckerk was nice enought to give us a room on the main floor. Pool was nice and pool area was clean. Breakfast was ok
- hector (10/5): - Great place to stay near the Indiana Dunes parks
- Kristy (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay at the Inn. It was peaceful and clean. Bonus points for the pizza restaurant within walking distance, it was delicious.
- Juan (10/5): - Charming property very clean and maintained
- Ksenia (10/5): - Would love to come back again! Enjoyed sauna and pool in the evening. Very close to Indiana Dunes National and State parks, and nice restaurants. Our room patio faced a beautiful forest. Very relaxing and tranquil stay!
- Diane (8/5): - Interesting layout with little sitting areas both inside and out. Followed through with online request that our 2 rooms be close. Kids liked the pool. Breakfast ok.
- Miguel (10/5): - The hotel is very valuble. It is close to Indiana Dunes visitor center. Everything is clean and quiet. For sure. I will back to this hotel.
- Christopher (10/5): - We had a very pleasant stay at this property. The hotel was clean, and the staff were consistently friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed the pool and sauna—both well-maintained and stocked with fresh towels. The rooms were cozy and appeared recently updated, especially the carpeting. One of our rooms was missing its ceiling fan, with visible wires in the electrical box, though it seemed this may have been under maintenance, as the other rooms had fully installed fans.
The location was convenient—just a 5–10 minute drive to the beach. Parking was easy and accessible, though the lot itself could use some resurfacing.
The only issue we encountered was with our reservation: although we had booked three rooms, the hotel initially had only two on file. Fortunately, they were able to accommodate us with a third room at check-in, avoiding further complications.
Overall, we give this hotel a 5/5 for cleanliness, staff service, breakfast options, and amenities. We would definitely consider staying here again.
- Jeff (10/5): - Super friendly, very clean, nice pool and sauna. Going to stay here again
- Christel (8/5): - Very cute, well decorated and welcoming. Very polite and helpful staff. Has no elevator so need a 1st floor room if differently asked. Phone was not connected. No coffee in room but was available 24/7 in the lobby. Breakfast average.
- Keiko (8/5): - The staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. The property overall is clean but needs some maintenance and upkeep done. Breakfast was mediocre. Overall, I'd go back for sure. It's a quiet area with a good restaurant on property. It'd be helpful to know there's no elevator prior to booking in case you're with someone that requires it.
- James (10/5): Family time - Nice area. Great old fashion decor. Breakfast bar little bland. Just like every other hotels that offers morning breakfast. Nothing special
- Jona (10/5): Beautiful! - I’m not sure what some of the fuss is about. Yes- this place is an older Inn; but it’s beautiful! We saw ONE spider which is to be expected in an old building that’s surrounded by scenic woods. It truly has so much history and charm, large rooms too. The staff was exceptionally kind and accommodated an early check-in for us. The pool was nice, clean, and didn’t reek of chlorine. If you want lame modernization, go to the Marriott and stay there. We loved this place and will absolutely be back.
