Elizabeth (4/5): Our own Steven King experience - Our first surprise was the $75 PER NIGHT pet cleaning fee. This might have been understandable if they had cleaned our room at all during our stay. We didn't see a soul the entire time. We were all alone in the hotel and surrounding restaurant. Good thing we didn't need clean towels. No services whatsoever. They gave us a key and told us to lock up when we left. Kind of like The Shining. But with waves.
Maryanne (10/5): - We had a wedding in the area. The wedding started at the same time as check in. This establishment let a group of us have early check in to help not scheduling difficulty. It was very much appreciated and shows good customer service. Plus the place was quaint and safe:)
Keith (4/5): Come for the Food, Not the Stay - Got a text from Sam (the manager?) at 4:10 asking what time I wanted to check in. I said “in 2 minutes” since I was literally a street away. When I got to Tavern, it was a little hard to know where to check in since the place is really set up more as a restaurant. I made my way into the lobby and found the hostess stand where I texted Sam where do I go to check in. No response. Some other staff finally came around and got Sam’s attention. To be honest, it felt more like I was an intrusion than a welcomed guest. Interesting sign in the lobby begging (bribing) not to be a Karen; give a good review for a free drink. Maybe earn your guests’ good reviews by providing a great experience? This is the first place I stayed where there is blue painters table on the walls in our room. As I am writing this, Sam just walked past me here on the front porch. No greeting. No smile. This place as the potential to really be something special, but it needs a little TLC to get there. It seems it’s been a little neglected over the years. Good: The location on the water is great. They have a great restaurant and bar with live music. It’s in a good location and the area feels safe and family friendly. Not go good: Photos online don’t really show the current state of property. Some amenities are no where to be found. While there is an espresso bar on the front porch, I have never seen anyone working at it. No daily housekeeping. There is a tip envelope on the dresser though.

Rocco (8/5): Almost there - The building itself is gorgeous. The location is ideal. Restaurant and rooftop bar were top notch. But the room needed some work. Blinds had missing slats which was a big deal since our room faced the rooftop observation deck. TV didnt work at all. AC was just a window unit which didnt really cool the room. The door separating our room from the adjoining room barely closed. Overall, room and bathroom were clean. Bed was comfortable. Extremely affordable for a weekend down the shore. Just needs some updating.
Frederick (4/5): Disappointing stay in Somers Point NJ. - Probably I should have read the amenities more closely as our room was on the third floor and there was no elevator, which made it very difficult for two seniors, 76 and 74, along with our dog. also the mattress should be thrown out as it was terrible. We ordered takeout from the restaurant and my wife's Caesar salad at $12 was crammed into a small 4 inch container. She also ordered 4 shrimp to be put on the salad at $12 and they grilled the shrimp and put on top, wilting the salad. The size was no more than a side salad. Obviously we would not stay there again nor eat in their restaurant and caution others about staying there.
Melissa (10/5): - We stayed one night while visiting the beach, and it gave us exactly what we needed. The beds were soft, the room and bathroom were clean, and the room was cool the moment we stepped in, which was necessary after being on the hot beach all day. The restaurant's food was delicious, and it was great to be able to eat and then go right back up to the room to rest. We'll definitely be back next year.
Bri (10/5): Quiet Gem on the Bay - Such an amazing place to stay. Great food & drinks. Jessie at the bar was so friendly, Thomas was a delight at check in and really made feel welcome. The views from the top deck are beautiful and the space is so relaxing. I definitely will be back.
Jeffrey (6/5): Absolutely no service - bartender was great! - The view from the terrace was amazing, but it appears to be a shared terrace. It was relatively clean, but a bit shabby. Our room was on the 3rd floor so the view was great, however there is no elevator so my wife and I had to lug the bags up to the 3rd floor. Some slats in the window blinds were broken and there was only a room air conditioner. When we awoke and walked around there was no a soul to be found we let a deliver person it since the outer door was locked. No coffee no breakfast.

gael (8/5): I like this place but… - We were in the so called Frank Sinatra room for one night. My daughter in law slept very well and loved the comforter. We found the bed comfortable and also liked the comforter but needed a lighter cover which was not available. Also, the sheets were 100% polyester which is unacceptable. They make you hot!! And one more thing-they really need room darkening shades! The room is bright at 4:00 in the morning! Not good! However, the amenities in the bathroom were great! And the towels were very good and absorbent. It was very nice to have a real refrigerator in the room. But if you say keurig downstairs in the early morning, please fill it with water, have an available plug and coffee with the necessary accompaniments. It’s almost wonderful but not quite..

Jill (10/5): - This hotel is really unique. The Inn was built in the 1880’s and makes you feel like you’re stepping back in time. It’s in a beautiful location right on the bay with breathtaking views. The owner, Sam, took great care of us including getting up early to make cappuccino on the front porch and share stories about the buildings use during prohibition to smuggle illegal booz into the county.
Christine (4/5): - I recently stayed at this property, and while it boasts a stunning location right on the bay, my experience was disappointing due to poor management and a lack of attention to detail. The location is fantastic—close to popular restaurants and nightlife. The property itself is gorgeous, offering incredible views of the water. However, the hotel lacks the leadership and hospitality expected from such a prime spot. Upon check-in, the owner was sitting off to the side in the lobby on his phone, offering no greeting or assistance. A young man walked us to our room, but no one offered help with our luggage, which was surprising. The room was clean but shabby and outdated, with an exposed light switch plate in the bathroom. The decor felt neglected, and there was a table on the upper deck right outside our window, allowing us to hear every conversation from guests sitting there. The restaurant on the property is beautiful, offering fantastic views, yet it was completely empty during our stay. In contrast, the restaurant across the street was bustling with a great atmosphere. Given the location, the hotel’s restaurant should have been the go-to spot, but it’s clear the property is poorly managed. Overall, while this hotel has incredible potential, it needs more care, attention, and stronger leadership. With proper improvements, it could be an amazing destination. As it stands, it feels like its best days are behind it.
Verified traveler (6/5): - No elevator made my stay difficult. My room was kind of clean but there was quite a bit of dust examples: the ceiling fan paddles and top of coffee machine to name a few. Before booking I called and made sure I could bring my service pet to both stay in my room with me and even dine with me. The staff were excellent except for the dining room mgr who refused to let me be seated in the restaurant with my service pet. The asst ‘Mgr helped make this upsetting situation better by taking my order and bringing it to me to eat on the 3rd floor deck.

They said they'd look and never came back about it. I asked again. He said he looked and there were none. Room was very cold. We left early and no staff there. I went out before my husband to the car with luggage. Little did I know the door locks behind you so he had to bring the rest down on his own. Overall happy with our stay.
Joanne (4/5): NJ Not relaxing much needed vacation - Unfortunately it is not as depicted in pictures. Bed was horrible. Lumpy with nails from box spring poking mattress; staples sticking out side of mattress. E weren’t told we had to call for room service. Asked for clean sheets (done) and bath towels. Received two towels no clean hands towels or washclothes. They left dirty stuff in floor where we had stacked it. Gross. Called and requested and they would be right up. Didn’t happen. Next morning I let the manager know how unhappy we were. Came back for our last night to new towels and clean sheets. Air conditioning was antiquated. Hangers were from the 50. . . Maybe 60’s. View was a postage stamp size. No coffee in room and not available Monday and Tuesday and on Wednesday whenever the guy showed up but it stops at noon daily. No coffee even in restaurant. Needless to say for the $$ we paid there are a list of other sad things with this room. Concept is good but I think we got taken financially. Someone needs to work with management to bring this up to par and make it a good stay.

Two gentlemen on our arrival day was very friendly and did take our bags up for us. Host the next day (Sunday) not so approachable or friendly. Not a smile to be seen. View from 3rd floor deck was great. Maybe a bit more comfortable seating and an umbrella would be a plus but still loved it. Took the A/C’s about 2 hrs to really get the room cool. Then they worked like a charm. Would suggest to friends and would return for another stay sometime.

Never answered the phone. Wasn't even there when we checked out (we had to leave a note.) Rooms are barely decorated and need a good all-over deep clean.

The windows could have had better shades to block out the light. The TV had a scratch on it which made it hard to watch. There was a constant smell of marijuana. I would not recommend the hotel or stay again.

karen (10/5): Quaint and comfortable - This was a "sister's" birthday trip. 2 nights. I liked the place very much. Sam had me laughing. The room was bright and comfortable, but it was 2 flights of narrow steps upward. A little harder to at 62 than before. My suitcase was not brought up or down for me, that's something that should be done, especially for older ladies. Also, as amenities go, add a blow dryer and the iron to go with the ironing board. That said, we had a terrific time and were quite happy with the stay.

Matthew (4/5): - The Tavern seemed to be under construction rooms need a lot of work. Doors and windows had gaps and rooms are very small.
Verified traveler (6/5): More like a B & B - They were kind enough to let me check in early. It was a self check in and out. No person at a desk to check in. The room was a bit creepy. I could see daylight through the door jamb into the room from the hallway. The comforter on the bed was stained. The mattress was slanted on one side, very soft but comfortable. The room could definitely be updated or refreshed. There were two window AC units. One window in the room opened up to the rooftop deck which creeped me out. If I could have opened the windows the view would’ve been great. Price was right. Luckily I took all my stuff with me when I went to my car in the morning because the front door locked behind me and I don’t know how I would’ve gotten back in.

Stephen (6/5): - Check in was a problem. Owner wasnt expecting us, no one was there. Heather was GREAT - helped with replacing fridge. I plugged in my phone and tripped the breaker, burned my plug. Heather offered to replace and offered different room. She also helped us figure out the TV. Give her an award. "Suite" was a small room - NOT a Suite - and had no screens. Loved the deck, fishing pier, beach and location.

Deborah (6/5): - really pretty place Staff in the evening was pleasant stairs where steep to carry my suitcase up and down Room needs updating And it was strange no one in the hotel during the day. Make sure you keep your key or you’ll get locked out of the hotel.

Beth (8/5): - The location is great, right next to a little beach and marina for families. The hotel is very clean and staff are friendly and accommodating. They really care. Parking is convenient, and adorable little community a quick drive from the ocean. The exterior is beautiful. Note: There were some quirky aspects to the hotel due to its age and perhaps limited budget from ownership. There is no elevator in this historic building and the steps are very steep. The rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. While the hotel is pet friendly, they want $75 a night per pet.

Jacinda (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay at Tavern On The Bay! Joseph was so accommodating from the second we booked until we checked out. The area was very walkable and scenic and we actually got engaged on the dock next to the property during our stay! The bartenders in the restaurant were incredibly friendly and the performer on Saturday night was amazing. Would absolutely stay again!

Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed for my 35th Anniversary - Mold in bathroom. Very poorly decorated. Mishmash of different decors. Room up three flights of stairs. Hotel food was less than par. Restaurant managers conversations were very inappropriate.

John (6/5): - We stayed in room 3, the shower head needs to be replace along with the slider door blinds . Very clean and very helpful staff . 3rd floor balcony was a very nice surprise . Should have instructions for the TV. Very comfortable bed and great A/C.
christine (10/5): - This Bay resort was perfect location for walkable restaurants and bars, ocean bridge walk, piers & small beach next door. The property itself has a an outside bar, amazing views!!!! Food at restaurant was delicious. Our room has its own deck to enjoy again the amazing views! Property manager was friendly and accommodating.

Kristina (8/5): DeMent - Everyone we encountered was very nice! A little surprised that the bartenders didn’t have the ingredients to make an espresso martini, as it is such a popular drink. Nevertheless, the bartenders were great!

Jacklyn (10/5): - This property is a hidden gem. Good food, nice location, and very close to Ocean City. We had a good stay. I would stay again. It's a great place for a couple nights of relaxation. Cute little man made beach next to the facility, and small park for kids.
