• Clarissa (6/5): - Abbiamo soggiornato in questa struttura attratti dalle recensioni sul ristorante, mai scelta fu più sbagliata! Abbiamo soggiornato in uno standard family chalet che si trova dietro alle camere famigliari de luxe (è era un plus) e sul quale non ho nulla da ridire: ampia, pulita e con tutto quanto necessita. Le camere apparentemente più belle vista mare invece sono sul passaggio del Jetty e del ristorante, pertanto non esiste privacy e c'è sempre rumore. Non c'è la possibilità di sfruttrare il mare di fronte in quanto molto basso e con barriera corallina (non balneabile in alcun modo) e con jetty sul canale tra le 2 isole. Per fare il bagno occorre o camminare 10 minuti attraversando 3 resort e passando su scale per andare al PIR o camminare 15 minuti attraversando la giungla (sconsiglio infradito) e attraversando dei resort per andare a sud dove il mare è migliore. La parte peggiore è stata il ristorante. Considerando che i taxiboat di sera raddoppiano i prezzi a persona e che il passaggio nella giungla non è percorribile di notte, si può mangiare solo al PIR (porzioni piccole, caro), o al Coral View (mediocre), o al Mama's (triste e lenti) o al Barat. La cucina del Barat è discreta, mentre il BBQ serale davvero buono. Peccato che per avere un tavolo occorre mettersi in coda prima delle 19 e già alle 20 spesso il pesce e le verdure alla griglia siano finiti. Ovviamente è carissimo rispetto ai ristoranti dopo la giugla
• silvia (10/5): - Alloggiavo in bungalow davanti al mare, seppur semplice ho trovato una sistemazione adatta alla genuinità del contesto con il ristorante ed il diving vicini che facevano da punto di aggregazione
• Giovanna (8/5): - Il The Barat è posizionato in un punto strategico del isola e a pochi metri si trova una spiaggia fantastica situata di fronte al PIR dove è possibile vedere tante varietà di pesci e coralli. Noi alloggiavamo nello chalet sea front che consiglio.La colazione a noi non è piaciuta e la scelta é minima pur pagando a parte. Da evitare i dolci al ristorante cheescake ect perché siamo stati male.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Fint hotel -forvent meget ventetid på restauranten - Vi boede i et værelse helt ud til vandet, hvilket var lækkert. De andre værelser var knap så godt beliggende. Hotellets restaurant er vores helt store klagepunkt…vi fik vores retter på vidt forskellige tidspunkter. Der kunne sagtens gå 30-45 minutter mellem den ene og den anden fik deres ret. Somme tider glemte de helt vores bestillinger. Derudover var transporten tilbage til Kuala Besut var åbenbart svær for dem at bestille…båden var 25 minutter forsinket.

Restauranten var ofte overfyldt, det kunne være svært at få et bord, og er meget dyr. Prisen i forhold til både placering, service og stand ligger i den høje ende.

Family sea front chalet was nice, airco and fan helped to cool down. View was a bit obstructed by the restaurant terrace.

• Yvan (6/5): Expérience mitigée - Points positifs : emplacement (à 5 min à pied de Turtle Beach, l'une des plus belles plages de l'archipel), la chambre (deluxe family room) récente, grande et agréable. Points négatifs : le restaurant, cher et pas terrible, quel que soit le repas (le Mama's à côté est d'un bien meilleur rapport qualité prix, et plus varié au petit-déjeuner), le service est une catastrophe, extrêmement désorganisé lent (même pour un adepte du mode slow, comme nous), des erreurs et des oublis dans les commandes pour le restaurant systématiques, mais aussi à la réception. Seul les excursions de snorkeling (correctes, sans plus) fonctionnent bien. En conclusion, si je devais retourner aux Perhentian je choisirai un autre établissement.

Das Hotel hat hier nicht eingegriffen, erst nach mehrmaliger Beschwerde. Mit Kind unzumutbar. Restaurant mit versteckten Preisen, die bei Bestellung absolut nicht transparent sind. Nach Rechnungsstellung erfolgt die böse Überraschung

On one night we had fresh fish and squid barbacue and it was tender and delicious. Loved Boat trip A and also hiring a boat to take us to a lovely beach for snorkelling on other days
• Elena (10/5): - What a great place to stay on Perhentian island (Greater)! A real gem. Location is perfect with 3 beaches in walking distance (one right next to the accommodation). We stayed in a seafront view family room and it was amazing waking up to the beautiful view. The rooms are spacious, clean, comfy beds, plenty of pillows, fridge, AC, a big fan on the ceiling. Big screen tv is connected to wifi so we were able to watch some of our favourite programs before bed. Spacious balcony - stepping out of it -> stepping into the restaurant. Staff are super helpful, professional, friendly. We strongly recommend this place. We would definitely come back if we come to East Malaysia again.

• jamal (2/5): A fuir - très mauvais accueil à l’hôtel. cheveux de femme présent dans la chambre à notre arrivée, cafard présent dans la salle de bain. chambre sale et miroir pas propre. présence de punaise de lit , au réveil nous nous réveillons avec beaucoup de boutons. la seule réponse que l’on a eu c’est le changement de drap de lit et le fait que l’on se moque de nous. nous avons donc demandé à changer de chambre mais c’était pareil. bruit de chauve souris présent tout le long de la journée. pour un séjour de 6 jours , pas de changement de serviette ni de draps si l’on fait pas la demande. Very bad reception at the hotel. Woman's hair present in the room when we arrived, cockroach present in the bathroom. Dirty room and unclean mirror. Presence of bedbugs, when we woke up we woke up with a lot of spots. The only response we received was the change of bed sheets and the fact that we were made fun of. So we asked to change rooms but it was the same. Bat noise present all day long. For a 6-day stay, no change of towels or sheets if you don't ask.

Non ha una finestra, se non la porta finestra che funge anche da porta d’ingresso. Il bagno, con lo scarico otturato, si allaga dopo 1 minuto di doccia. Sconsiglio questa sistemazione.

• Eric (10/5): - Die Perhentian Islands, vorallem die Insel Besar ist wunderschön und besitzt einen der schönsten Strände die ich kenne. Die Unterkunft hat allen Erwartungen entsprochen und kann von mir nur weiterempfohlen werden, ich würde und werde selbst noch einmal dorthin zurückkommen. Der Strand vor der Barat ist zum schwimmen ok aber um am Strand zu chillen und den schöneren Strand zu nutzen läuft man 5-10 Minten nach Norden, dort ist der oben erwähnte herrliche Strand zu finden. Das Resort bietet gutes Essen.
• Mallie (4/5): Dårlig service - Værelset var udmærket. Rigtig behagelige senge og køleskab og aircondition, som fungerede godt. Håndklæderne var ofte beskidte og havde hår på. Beliggenheden gjorde det lidt besværligt at lave noget, da man enten skal med taxabåd eller leje kayak for at komme hen til strande man kan bade på. Man må nemlig ikke bade på stranden der er ved the barat. Der er Kun 2-3 restauranter på stranden og maden er meget middelmådig og intetsigende. Ingen steder man kan købe lidt ind, medmindre man vil gå 20 minutter igennem en jungle hver vej. Værst ved opholdet var attituden i receptionen. Ung kvinde som ikke smiler og snakker meget flabet til en, som om det er træls man er der. Dette var blandt andet grunden til, at vi tog afsted en dag før end planlagt, da man simpelthen ikke følte sig velkommen og man har ikke har brug for mere end 2 dage. Man kan købe billetter til forskellige bådture på stranden ved hotellet og det var en god oplevelse. Bemærk at taxabådene bliver meget dyrrere om aftenen. Du kan heller ikke hæve penge på øerne.
• Michel (4/5): 2 stars at the most - Although the island is very nice, this hotel is not. We paid for a deluxe room and believe me it wasn’t. The beds are hard, the air conditioning is too strong and hard to control. 3 times per day, the electricity goes off and you have to restart the breaker. The food at the restaurant is pretty much all frozen food so not very good. The beach in front of the hotel is not useable so you have to walk 5 minutes to the other beach which is amazing. The best snorkeling of my life!

• VICTOR MANUEL (2/5): - No recomiendo. Relación calidad/precio muy baja. Suciedad en habitación, baño, sabanas… El restaurante muy caro en comparación a otros resorts (incluso resorts de categoría superior tienen precios más bajos)… Te cobran al cambio 4€ por un capuccino de cápsula (dolce gusto). El dive center en mi opinión solo se preocupa por cobrar buceos. Yo pedí “fun dive” y a ultima hora para ahorrarse un barco nos metieron con los del curso de advanced para la profunda (sabiendo que no había visibilidad). No tiene ningún sentido, solo su beneficio económico.
• Lauryn (10/5): - Nous avons séjourné dans un chalet simple au Barat. Le personnel était extrêmement serviable. Plusieurs autres hôtels avec leurs restaurants sont situés à proximité, notamment le Mama's Restaurant, qui est excellent. Cependant, le ponton n'est pas très pratique, donc il vaut mieux éviter de venir avec de grosses valises.

In prima prenotazione avevamo scelto la camera con 2 letti a castello ma abbiamo cambiato per il seguenti motivi: Picccolissima,soffocante,maleodorante,sporca in pratica da non scegliere!Grandezza 2,5mtx2.5mt Prendere assolutamente una camera spaziosa con letto matrimoniale. Prezzo eccessivo per pernottare. Per il resto, ristorante ottimo e staff cordiale. Il mare davanti non è bellissimo ma spostandosi a sinistra verso il Pir, le cose cambiano decisamente.
• Maik (8/5): - Man kommt am sehr langen Steg der Unterkunft an, es kann ein wenig schaukeln, wenn man darüber läuft, ist aber gut machbar. Direkt am Barat ist der Strand nicht wirklich gut, hier sind im Meer viele Steine. Aber nur 10 Gehminuten in Richtung Norden ist die fantastische Bucht des Perhentian Islands Resorts - dort ist es wunderschön! Der Check-in ging schnell und das Personal war sehr freundlich. Das Familienzimmer mit Blick aufs Meer war geräumig, Bad und Toilette getrennt und ein Balkon mit zwei Stühlen vorhanden. Die Sauberkeit war in Ordnung, die großen Scheiben der Schiebetüren könnten allerdings eine Reinigung vertragen. Insgesamt ist die Einrichtung okay, wenn auch nicht die Neueste. Die Klimaanlage war gut, Wasser in Flaschen wurde einmal täglich gratis bereitgestellt. Einmal war das Waschbecken verstopft, das wurde schnell durch den Techniker behoben. Wenn man warm duschen möchte, muss man den Schalter des Durchlauferhitzers einschalten (vor dem Bad) sonst gibt's kein warmes Wasser. Alles in allem okay, wenn man nicht direkt Strand vor der Haustür haben möchte.

• letizia (4/5): - We had the standard chalet and I’m sad to share that the condition was not good and it didn’t match the pictures from the website. The rooms could definitely use some renovation and the cleaning standards are very poor. They also have newly renovated rooms, that unfortunately were not available when we booked and probably are in better shape. The island is very beautiful and 5 min walk from the resort there is a beautiful beach.

Fledermäuse machen extremen Lärm. Ab 6 Uhr kein Schlaf möglich ohne Kopfhörer. Meer vor Hotel nicht schön. Viele kaputte Korallen. Insgesamt gibt es für mich keinen einzigen positiven Punkt. Man bekommt für sein Geld ein paar Resorts weiter deutlich mehr. Sucht euch was besseres auch wenn es 100€ mehr kosten sollte.

• J (10/5): - Wowza! This was one of the best 5 day asian island resort experiences we've had on our travels. The resort has gone through a full refurbishment in the last couple of years, so we were delighted to see that most of the negative feedback has been listened too and actioned. Do not hesitate to book. All the staff - reception, restaurant, cleaners, concierge, footmen and management - are so friendly, helpful and enjoy a sense of fun, whilst all being totally professional. Our room was clean fresh with clean linens and towels. Sometime it takes an issue to truely rate an experience and we were absoultely blown away at the attentiveness and resolution. It turned our experience from 5 star to 6 star. We will definitely be back!!!
• Sonia (8/5): - Abbiamo alloggiato nel seefront family chalet: bello e pulito il bungalow, poca privacy perché davanti al molo, per il resto tutto ok. Caro il ristorante, spesso abbiamo mangiato in quello accanto.
• Enrico (8/5): - Ci siamo trovati molto bene al Barat. Non è sicuramente il resort dell'isola con la spiaggia più bella ma in 5 minuti si raggiunge la bellissima spiaggia del PIR oltre a tutte quelle raggiungibili con il taxi acqueo in pochi minuti. Noi avevamo la camera fronte mare al primo piano. Camera recente, arredata semplicemente ma completa di tutto. Vista mare molto bella. Il ristorante è buono ma è possibile usufruire anche di quelli adiacenti altrettanto validi. Le Perhentian ovviamente sono bellissime ed io consiglio di rimanerci almeno una settimana per godere appieno di tutto quello che le isole hanno da offrire.

• Patricia (8/5): Es agradable pero falta limpieza y mantenimiento - Cogimos una habitación superior, con vistas al mar, muy amplia y cómoda. Todos los días reponían las botellas de agua. La oferta del restaurante está muy bien, pero el mama's es más barato ya que el barat te cobra impuestos y servicio aparte. Se puede pagar con tarjeta sin problema. Las excursiones de snorkel que hicimos fueron buenas. Sería genial que estuviese más limpio, subiría la valoración!

• Abdullah (8/5): Perhentian islands stay - Very basic place to stay but nice and clean. You get free water everyday. The bathroom is very basic, i wasn't expecting 5* so i wasn't disappointed with what we got. Short walk to the beach from the room we had. Trees over head full of fruit bats that screech during the night and early morning but not bad enough to disturb us too much. Overall happy with our stay.

• Stephanie (10/5): Séjour reposant! - Nous avons loué une chambre « deluxe family » et tout était était très bien! Il faut cependant savoir quelques petites choses : Propreté : la chambre était assez propre (ce n’était pas parfait non plus mais cela ne me dérangeait pas forcément), avec un nettoyage quotidien. Les serviettes étaient souvent neuves donc certaines n’essayaient pas très bien. Emplacement : la plage de l’hôtel n’est pas terrible… le sable n’est pas « fin », et la vue donne sur l’île d’en face (au début j’étais un peu déçue de ne pas avoir la mer à perte de vue…) MAIS! À 10 minutes à pied vous trouverez une plage de sable blanc magnifique, eau turquoise, avec un aquarium géant à disposition : tortues, requins de récif, corail vivant, perroquets a bosse… un vrai régal! D’autant plus que cette plage est très souvent à l’abris du vent (donc pas de vague) mais vous avez quand même de l’ombre. Restaurant : le staff est très gentil, souriant, aimable et serviable… la nourriture est très bonne, la musique est sympa, bref : tout est parfait! Vous avez 3 restaurants accessibles à pied depuis le Barat (dont 2 autres moins chers), mais c’est le restaurant de l’hôtel que je vous recommande. Vous trouverez des taxi boats à l’hôtel ainsi qu’un centre de plongée (je vous recommande vivement de plonger avec Neville 😊), et des excursions à la journée (les trips À et B sont à faire!!) J’espère revenir un jour 😊 pour moi cet hôtel était parfait.

• Samuel (6/5): - Alles etwas älter und nicht im besten Zustand, dennoch empfehle ich diese Unterkunft. Das Personal war sehr zuvorkommend. Das Zimmer ist zwar etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber Tierfrei, warmes Wasser und die Klima war super. Die Lage ist perfekt. Ein paar gehminuten zum Turtle Point, hier haben wir tatsächlich eine Schildkröte gesehen. Dieser befindet sich am Strand vor dem Perhentian Island Resort. Der Turtle Point ist auf Google Maps falsch eingezeichnet!! Allein dass man diesen Strand so gut erreicht ist für mich ein Grund diese Unterkunft zu buchen. Bei anderen Unterkünften weiter unten muss man hierher teilweise durch den Dschungel laufen. Das Essen war uns im Barat zu teuer, hier kann ich das Belinda Cafe empfehlen.
• MARIA RITA (2/5): - Non abbiamo soggiornato in quanto all'arrivo siamo stati investiti da un persistente odore di fognatura, lo chalet standard vista giardino si è rivelata un camera minuscola, non si sapeva nemmeno dove aprire la valigia, scarsa pulizia con per terra un tampax (fortunatamente nuovo), incastrata tra altre due. In pratica tre camere che condividevano un piccolo patio per di più sporco. Il bagno non merita menzione. Abbiamo chiesto di avere una camera più decente ma erano al completo. Abbiamo deciso di cercare altro. Non ci hanno riconosciuto nessun rimborso.
• giovanna (4/5): - The room on the ground floor had a damp smell, I found a big spider and a cockroach, but in the tropics it's normal.. the towels were clean but they didn't dry. The once beautiful structure is in a bit of decay, even if we were customers when we ate both taxes and service were applied to the bill ... The reception staff was not always friendly, when you asked for something it seemed they were doing you a favor. I wouldn't go back and I don't recommend it

• Davide (4/5): - From the beginning nobody showed up at the pier to help us with the big suitcases and stuff after a long flight / taxi and jetty. The room was tiny / dark and humid plus it was not possible to open the windows . In The bathroom same situation : it didn’t have any window and the shower was without any tent so when you shower you get wet everything around. Another problem was the electricity and the telephone signal that went done every tot hour , so without electricity every six hours in the middle of the night you wake up sweating and feeling uncomfortable . In addition Prices of the bar were high and expensive even if compared to the other luxury hotels that sell sodas for less money … Employees at the request are not so helpful and understanding… So for all these reasons not suggested at all .

• Raphael (2/5): - Diese Unterkunft ist eine Frechheit! !! Wir hatten für 2 Person 6 Nächte mit Seafront gebucht. Die Seafront bestand aus einem Ausblick auf alte Plastikliegestühle, mit Lage neben Toiletten des Nachbarresorts und Müllsäcken, die sich von Tag zu Tag direkt neben unserem Apartment gestapelt haben. Der Zustand des Apartments innen war nicht besser: schmutzig und offensichtlich nicht oder wenig geputzt, Reste von Duschgel an den Wänden, Löcher in der Decke und in der Wand hinter dem Bett, Löcher in den Moskitonetzen, Sand und sonstiger Dreck auf den Bettlaken. Nachdem wir den groben Schmutz selber entfernt und die Moskitonetze und Wandlöcher (über die wohl die Kakerlake hineingekommen ist) notdürftig zugeklebt hatten, konnte man sich einigermaßen einrichten. Während unseres Aufenthaltes hatten wir 2 Dauergäste in Form von Geckos, zudem Kakerlaken und eine Ameisenstraße. Das Housekeeping hat auf unser Anfragen hin die Kakerlake entsorgt und uns gleich einen Insektenspray im Zimmer gelassen. Ein Handtuch pro Person pro Aufenthalt (haben mehrmals nach neuen gefragt und immerhin auch welche bekommen) und keine tägliche Zimmerreinigung. Lediglich standen jeden Abend 2 kleine Waserflaschen und eine Klopapierrolle vor der Tür (am Ende unseres Aufenthalts hatten wir einen Stapel von 6 Klopapierrollen). Das Personal war überwiegend freundlich und der Service im Restaurant auch in Ordnung. Dennoch rate ich von einer Buchung in diesem Resort dringend ab!

• Verified traveler (6/5): Cleanliness issue after long closure; poor wifi - Beautiful seafronting setting. Dedicated pontoon jetty for easy arrival. Granted early checkin which was nice. Wifi was terrible and barely useable. Main issue: cleanliness. There were dead bugs and roaches in the bathroom which could have easily been hosed away before handing over the room to guests. More importantly, there seemed to be minor bed bugs from the mattress. My partner and I both had uncomfortable bites. We are still nursing the itches currently at home with cream/ointment. Pretty disappointing from an otherwise pleasant stay at The Barat. Hope the management can have a look (our room num was 322).
• TeenTeen (8/5): - We stayed in the 4 bed dorm room with attached bathroom and toilet, which is really nice to have. The room however, gets quite cramp when there’re 4 bags in it, and there isn’t enough table space for things. Nevertheless, we like the tidy grounds and quality food at the restaurant.

• Peter (10/5): Oasis in the sea - The Perhentian islands are an oasis in the sea about a 30 to 45 minute high speed boat ride from Besut off the north east coast of Malaysia. Well worth the effort to get there because it is truly a little paradise. Beautiful sand and seawater that is as blue and green and fresh and salty as you would expect of heaven. It’s not for everyone, those with a wanderlust and experienced travellers will definitely be rewarded. The Barat Resort itself is basic but very functional and well managed.

• Gandhi (6/5): The Barat @ Perhentian - The dorm room had thin walls, so you can hear the rooms beside you. The shower was just about acceptable. We left our luggage in the locker, however this was not locked and controlled hence anyone can enter at will. However a convenient stay for accessing coral view beach, a very good snorkelling site.
• Irene (10/5): Best location, best service - I've been to other hotels in the Island and definitely the Barat is the best one: - Best location in the Island. Walking distance to several beaches and restaurants. Kayak and taxi boats always available next to the hotel - Small but clean room with AC and fan - Great service, the front desk girls are really nice and always trying to help - Free beach towels - The food in the restaurant is really good. Great breakfast options! (You can use credit card)
• Douglas (10/5): superb except for dying seas... - I cannot fault the attitude of the staff nor the service levels at Barat. My concern is how much coral has died and sea life has disappeared in recent years. What to do?
• Anna (4/5): - The BBQ is okay. The rooms are not clean. The septic tank is right in front of the aircon, it smell very bad in the room so. Unbearable. Ants everywhere even in the fridge. The floor looks soft and rotten somewhere..
• tan (8/5): - We had the dorm room for 4 persons. We were extremely happy with the condition of the room. It was extremely clean. Towels, comfortable linen and water were provided and replaced/cleaned every day. Aircon works well. We had private toilets but were located outside the room. The cleanliness of the toilets could be improved. The staff were very helpful and quick to solve the issues we had with the safe. However, for the price we paid, we are satisfied with our stay overall. The atmosphere of the resort is pretty quiet at night. If you are looking for some nightlife (fireshow, cheaper food etc), I suggest staying on Long Beach. Otherwise, it is 10RM per way for a water taxi to long beach, and the price doubles at night. Food around Barat were more expensive than the small island. There are no nice sandy beaches within walking distance from Barat, which was quite disappointing.

Wherever you go, you're in the smoke. Someone needs to teach them about composting and nature preservation. There is plastic waste everywhere.

• Verified traveler (6/5): - I want to be fair: good food, ok room, great location with a sea view and 24/7 electricity. The larger 3 bed family rooms had AC and were right on the sea whereas the others were a few meters behind with (mine had no AC). Ok for the price of 400 ringgits for two nights which included a return speedboat, meals and a snorkelling trip. Would recommend caution however due to bed bugs in my room.

• Rebecca (8/5): Fine for a night or two - Busy but pretty little place. The hotel is clean and restaurant offers some good Malaysian dishes. Staff are polite enough but don’t expect many smiles or too much help. They appear to be used to a high turnover of guests. Having said that, it felt safe to stay there and the rooms were confortable.
• Mariam (10/5): Really nice well located hotel - Our room with a detached an suite was clean. We were about 10mins walk from an amazing beach (supposedly the best beach on the island). The staff were also very helpful and knowledgeable.

• Verified traveler (2/5): Horrible. Do not stay here - Do not stay here and especially do not go snorkeling with their people by the pier. They say there is a tv, but it's useless as its not setup for reception. WiFi is nonexistent in the room. Almost nonexistent by the restaurant too with so many people trying to use it. These islands are also incredibly boring as you are literally stuck in the vicinity of the resort.
• dennis (10/5): Lovely hotel near city center - Very nice & clean room & friendly & helpful staff. Good WiFi. Free sodas in mini bar. I was so happy to arrive at a nice Joel after a 13 hr bus ride. I checked in at about 2:45 AM, and it was no problem. If I had to find a complaint it would apply to most “high end” hotels. That’s the price of other amenities. When I saw the laundry charges, I passed. They were prohibitively expensive. Otherwise this is a great hotel for the price. I will be going back there for my last 3 nights in KL.
• pq (6/5): Hotel close to beach and food facilities nearby - The hotel was beautiful, however the food from the resort took too long to arrive (30mins) despite not busy. There were some machinery noises at the surrounding area make it hard to fall asleep. However, the snorkeling trip was spectacular, experienced divers and beautiful corals. We went to the Thai restaurant next to the resort the food was good.
