Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): - TO START WITH THE PICTURE OF THE PROPERTY ON EXPEDIA DOES NOT REFLECT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PREMISES GOING ON THE BEACH SIDE OF THE PROPERTY. 2- THE PROPERTY AT NIGHT WAS COMPLETLY DARK, NO SECURITY AND FULL OF FUNNY NOISES WHICH MADE IT KIND OF SCARY TO STAY THERE AT NIGHT.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel was under construction and not able to do what was in the advertising. No drinking water in room. No breakfast included as internet information said. The hotel is changing hands but the internet web page needs to be kept current. The phone numbers were wrong could not contact for shuttle service. The restaurant had good hamburgers. People are nice
- Kerlin (6/5): - The hotel was in a nice area, i really liked its towards the end of West end! The staff were friendly, the 3 days my family and I stayed there we ate breakfast which was a plus! The room was ok, it was clean and every day House keeping came to clean. The ocean view was amazing!!But we were kinda disappointed our room didn't have no TV, no iron and no microwave. We were told that only two rooms had TV and they were booked already! We had to go watch tv in the kitchen. Miguel was super helpful, he took us on an Island tour which was really nice my children and I were excited. Thank you Miguel for all your help 😊. The hotel is going to be removed which I am excited to see. If one day I'll come back to Roatan I will stay at Brisas Del Mar.
- rockycdt (10/5): Mr - Absolutely one of my best stays in travelling. Ray was a super host and helped with every inquiry. Out of busy area but only a few minutes to West End. Would highly recommend this property. Great sunset views.
- Jalama (8/5): We Made the Right Choice!! - We know what we like having traveled to many islands over the years. And after much research, we chose Sueno Del Mar. Could not have been happier with our choice!
It is just what we wanted...
Not touristy, A bit out of town so not as populated and crazy, 4-5 minute walk to the restaurants, bars, and shopping area, Beachfront property with sunset views, A welcoming beach bar & grill, Basic clean accommodations, A safe/lockbox in the room, A friendly staff.
Only 8 rooms...all with a patio/balcony and a view of the ocean. You can swim or hangout right in front of your room! Breakfast served upstairs every morning and it is included in the price of your room. It is a great place to talk with other travelers! There are books to read/borrow/ leave as well. We stayed 8 nights and most of the guests we met had been coming here for years!
Ray, the owner, is kind, laid-back, and very helpful with suggestions & island information. There is a dive shop and pier connected to the office and Ray scheduled all dives for my husband. He had some great dives and is still talking about them. Some guests dove with other dive shops and were picked up right at Sueno's Pier.
Rooms were cleaned daily, although a few days we told them we didn't need the service. Shower always had hot water.
The beach bar opens in the early afternoon and was a nice place to chill out and talk. Lots of locals come there and young people come most nights to play volleyball on the beach. The bartenders were friendly and speak with everyone NOT just the locals so that was cool! They serve ice cold beers, great drinks, and a nice pour on wines! Our room was on the bottom floor and it was fine. I kinda wanted an upper floor but sitting on the porch each day and evening was awesome and I was glad afterall to have a bottom room!
We loved Roatan and had a great vacation!
I suspect we will return once more to Roatan before our adventures take us to new destinations and Sueno Del Mar will get our business again!
- MaytaLne (10/5): good breakfast - I stayed in this hotel 02 days as my friend recommend, it did not let me down, very beautiful resort located near the habor. My room have great view, thank to ms, haun, she very nice and dedicate to make us happy. This would be unforgettable experience. Very nice
- OkpikCambridgeBay (6/5): decent place, can be a bit noisy at times. - It is a clean place and the staff are friendly and welcoming for the most part. It is in need of some repairs and upgrades but for the price we were happy enough. Don't expect a 5 star resort, with multiple amenities. The bar can be quite noisy and fun, but hard to sleep when it is going strong until late hours! The dive shop was getting a work over when we left, and should be checked out if you are a diver. The beach was a welcome set up with little traffic during the days that we were there. It is located close to the restaurants and all the shops etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice staff. Great beach bar "" Tita's pink seahors - Xxxxxxxxxcxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxc
- captrooter (10/5): Great location in west end walkinf distance to all the activities - I was treated like family at Sueno Del Mar and at titas bar on the beach , one of the best locations in Roatan. The hotel will pick you up at the airport help you with you baggage to your room and give you helpful hints on scuba diving, excersions and lots of helpful information. The hotel is a safe location with security and also has a dive shop located on the first floor with dive boats leavin daily . You can also book snorkiling excersions. The water taxi will pick you up at the dock for a short ride to west bays adventures.
- bealafea (10/5): Little piece of heaven in Roatan - I love this hotel! Small piece of paradise. I felt like everyone here was my friend. Room was perfect all that I needed: hot water, AC, safe, WiFi and not necessary but good to have TV. Rey the owner was very nice and accommodating! I will come.back again for sure!
- RENEE (8/5): todo bien - todo ok
- 251marieeveb (6/5): Need updates and be aware of dogs barking - My husband and I stayed 2 nights at this hotel while we are looking for another place to stay longer in Roatan.
Prices are a little bit high but not to bad. Rooms are nice and comfortable with AC and the location is great.
Breakfast was good, you can choose between pancakes and eggs and there is coffee.
Two major problems: wifi is really bad and does not work most of the time in the room and neighbors have dogs that never stop barking day and night! The bar near can also be noisy at night.
The place really needs updates (mostly reception and the kitchen) and they need to do something about the dogs, really!
- sailfinblenny82 (8/5): Diving, relaxing and enjoying the sun - Great place to stay, located right on the beach, offers breakfast and has a PADI 5 start dive shop, love the Dive staff Mary, Dennis and Sam our star Instructor for the week we were there, we had so much fun with Roatan Dive Center, saw a hammerhead shark, Eagle ray and so many fishes, diving was fun and the best dive week ever,Avi our front desk receptiones was great, super friendly and helpful, a big thank you to all you guys. We will see you all soon at Christmas again.
- Mark (8/5): great staff, comfortable stay, would stay again - The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked fine. The shower was wonderful for this part of the world. Breakfast was good but could have had a little more fruit. As some have noted, SDM could use a bit of TLC and investment but overall we enjoyed staying there. The noise from the bar was only a issue a couple of nights for a short time. The attached dive shop (separate owner and management) was superb.
- cubmanruss (4/5): Needs major updating - Run down, no lobby (looks like they started to build one but abandoned the project). Our AC didn't work. Great ocean views and the adjacent bar was fun but other than that this place is not worth the cost. We moved to another property after one night.
- Scott (4/5): Not a good spot - Bad location away from all the other facilities. They didn't have my reservation and said they couldn't understand
the emails from Expedia. No problem as we didn't want to stay there anyway. The first room had a leaky toilet and air
conditioner didn't work.
We got one room a day early and the rate was less than half what we were charged on Expedia.
- skyzen00 (6/5): Tempering others comments - Unfortunately, we reserved there based on comments from other travlers. We found these comments to be too enthousiastic. We have traveled to over 15 countries and stayed in all kind of accommodation. would like to be more realistic to this hotel.
When you arrive it looks like in demolition as the old reception building is a wreck. the surprise is the picture on this site and the reality is quite different.
1) well situated on a small beach.
2) rooms are clean but old. Sheets in the bed were old and stained.
3) Prime time of this establisment is past for many years, need renovation.
4) there is breakfast, eggs, pancakes, french toast,...
5) Wifi is poor and intermittent when we were there, slow (but that is an island)
6) price is good, recommend for no frill travelers.
- rogera523 (8/5): Six Canadians Diving in Roatan - After 10 years, this quaint place located at the West End is still one to go to. It has good rooms facing the ocean, good dive shop (independent) and excellent breakfasts. They really are there to help you in solving any issues. It is unfortunate that their WiFi is not good at all and therefore don't count on it. The owner will let you connect in his office if you are in dire need...so there are solutions. Ask for the divemaster Sam....he is good.
- TDCINC (6/5): SPring Break Dive Trip - The resort is at the far end of the West End community and is pretty much one of the only ones on the beach. It includes breakfast, but that mostly consists of some eggs, bacon and toast, with some cut up fruit available and very black coffee.
The resort is in desperate need of an upgrade/remodeling. Very little Wi-Fi is available. While we got more towels each day, no one removed the used ones for the five nights we were there.
The bar outside is very loud a night with locals and guests. During the day you often can expect the snorkel cruise ships gangs of people passing through to the docks loading and unloading and if you were resting on the beach front, plan on that being a major pain in your peace and quiet.
The dive shop operation is totally separate from the Resort operation. Roatan Dive Center is a PADI 5 star Instructor Development Center and Gary and Mary run a top notch dive operation. The reefs you will dive are beautiful and full of marine life. They take a very good head count and you will never be left behind.
- Avon07717 (10/5): Best vacation I have ever had!!! Wonderful location, people - couldn't ask for more! - Stayed at Sueno Del Mar Resort for 2 of the best weeks of vacation! Have been to Belize, Costa Rica, Dominican in the past couple years and they can't compare to the hospitality shown by the owner Ray and his staff!!! First rate complimentary breakfast by Elvia in the morning was wonderful! If we needed anything, Avi was right there to make it happen! Dive shop was attached and Mary was wonderful with helping us schedule snorkeling trips. Miguel was available to not only do the airport shuttle to and back, but he and Ray actually went above and beyond to help us out in a "special" situation we had due to our forgetfullness - Thanks again, guys!!! Don't plan on island hopping next year as we are going back!!
- John (8/5): Sueno Del Mar Resort Stay - The location was great. Just at the end of West End. Minutes walk to restaurant's shops. The local bar Tita's was fun. The dive shop was in the hotel. Had a great time.
- O9037ZLrogerh (8/5): A week in paradise - Recently took a trip to Roatan, an stayed a week at the Sueno Del Mar Resort. My first impressions were skeptical, however I had never stayed in a small resort such as this before so my feelings were really unfounded. After a couple of days to "unwind" i really began to enjoy myself and got into the island routine so much that I did not want to return to Ontario.
Ray and his staff were great, and we got to meet lots of new friends. This is a clean and charming place to stay with lots of character and charm. I would recommend this resort 100% for a relaxing getaway!
- dp86001 (8/5): Nice location on the beach - Enjoyed the beach location that was at the end of the road and a bit away from it all but close walking distance to everything. The dive shop being on location is a plus along with a great little bar to enjoy a cocktail and the sunset. The staff was very flexible when we had a change of plans to our trip which we appreciated.
- PatricknPam (10/5): A great affordable place to stay - This is a very chill, clean, affordable place to stay! We have stayed there 8 years in a row and love the convenience of location- it is at the main end of the Main Street in West End.
It includes breakfast and snorkelling for a really good price.
There is also Tita's Pink Seahorse bar on site- she serves the best burgers and monkey lalas on the island.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - My first night at this property was disappointing. I had specifically booked the one room with a king bed, and due to a mistake, someone else was in that room for the first night. I understand that mistakes happen and was pleased that by the second night (of five), management had corrected the problem and had moved my things into the king room. How a business corrects a mistake is a true measure of quality, so I was happy. The first room I was in had a stained bedspread but the second room was perfect. The breakfast was great and very convenient. I would absolutely stay here again.
- 568JessicaM (10/5): Just what I needed - This place was exactly what I was looking for. For the price, I couldn't have asked for more. Our room overlooked the water with a hammock on the balcony to enjoy the view. I found it so relaxing that I was happy spending time reading a book on the balcony at times. We went diving with Roatan Dive Center located on the premise which was really nice to have everything so close so between dives we could easily run upstairs to grab something quickly. It was a short easy walk to West End (it's basically on one end of the main strip). The only two downsides for us were the smell in the bathroom and the wifi signal. Both were manageable. For the bathroom smell my husband tossed his orange peel into the shower and that really helped mask it. In our room we had a little bit of wifi signal most of the time but we could go out into the hallway or further down the stairs if we needed a stronger signal. Breakfast was great too. It was a cook to order setup with eggs, toast, French toast, pancakes, sausage, fruit, and cereal all on offer. I would definitely stay here again.
- andya209 (6/5): I think my expectations were to high - Have you ever heard how great a movie was and then when you went to see it, you did not find it to be as great as you heard? This is more or less the way I felt about my stay at Sueno Del Mar. Likely, this is because Ray was not around during our stay. If I understood correctly, he had come back to the states for Thanksgiving. It may have also been because I did not take advantage of the dive opportunities available through Sueno Del Mar, having previously booked with a different shop. As such, we dealt with Miguel, who was to say the least, someone we had to go look for. Sueno Del Mar is a decent and clean place to stay with hot water and A/C. Heed the warnings others have made about taking insect repellant as the sand fleas and mosquitos are a bother. Remember, this is an island. If you are like us, you won't be staying in the room as there are so many other things to do in and around West End. As such, you will really only be there to sleep. For this purpose, it is again, clean and comfortable. In regards to location, while you do need to pay attention to your surroundings, it is safe. Some other notes, on the rare occasion we saw Miguel, he was constantly asking us if we had paid, insinuating that we had not. He claimed Ray was asking him, but this had been covered prior to our arrival. As a precaution, take any paperwork you have showing that you paid with you when you go to eliminate this bummer, presuming you pre-pay. Room 101 leaks during heavy rains and water will accumulate on the floor around the entry door. Unless repaired, this is not a place to leave your luggage. Although there is Wi-Fi, it worked so poorly that I was never able to check email or Face Time my mother and children on this trip regardless of the time of day I attempted. Although I said no restaurant, there is a bar and grill, which seems to really only be a bar. I did not use this facility and so I cannot comment. So, would I stay here again? In short, yes - but only after seeing if something comparable was available.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Well located, quiet - Even if this hotel need some TLC in the entrance due to a incident, the room we had was very clean. A nice terrasse size with see view. Quality price is good and the owner Rick is a very pleasant person.
The bar below is quiet and nearly no distrubance from it. We ate there but the price is quite high.
A 5 to 10 min. walk to the West End center with a huge quantity of restaurant is a better choice.
- ItchyFeet_WarmHeart (10/5): Home Away From Home - I first visited Sueno Del Mar Resort in August of this year and definitely plan on returning. While it is a pretty basic resort, the people here are wonderful and it has an amazing location. I travel quite a bit so there are some things I am very particular about: particularly the bed and cleanliness. The room I was given at Sueno Del Mar was great. It's not luxury, but that is not what you are paying for. It was very clean, the bed was in excellent condition, the AC worked perfectly, the Wifi was good and I had a great little veranda to read on and look out at the sea. As this was primarily a diving trip, one of the best things about this hotel is being able to literally wake up, get coffee and walk two doors over to the dive center which is located right at the resort. It was great being able to go back to the room and take a nap between dives. Tita's which is a small bar/restaurant located at Sueno Del Mar is fantastic. Tita and Nicki are awesome people and are a blast to hang out with (Although beware of drinking with Tita's girlfriends, they are fantastic but you'll have one hell of a hangover the next day). The breakfasts there are provided and made for you on the spot. Pretty basic stuff, like pancakes and eggs, but a nice touch. I am really happy with this hotel and as my title states, it has become a home away from home for me. I am already looking at when I can go back next and do another dive trip and see everyone. A definite recommend.
- stephaniesJ7198IZ (10/5): 2016 Roatan Trip - Sueno Del Mar was conveniently located at the end of West End, far enough from the restaurants and shopping to be nice and quite, but close enough to walk there as often as I would like to go. Very responsibly priced and breakfast was delicious. I would definitely stay there again. Tita, makes the best Monkey La La on the island!!
