Guest Reviews
- Alicja (10/5): Exceptional stay! - A truly unique property with a stunning garden and wonderful breakfasts. The hosts are incredibly kind and welcoming.
The location is perfect: peaceful and secluded, yet right next to the city center. Highly recommended!
- Grégory (10/5): A spotlessly clean hotel with excellent food in the restaurant, just a stone’s throw from the national park, and with st - A spotlessly clean hotel with excellent food in the restaurant, just a stone’s throw from the national park, and with staff who are always on hand to help and provide us with some very interesting sightseeing.
- KatRed (10/5): Lovely hotel with excellent staff - Fantastic location right near the national park and very close to the shuttle bus and starting point for other activities. Restaurants and shops all close by. The staff were really helpful and answered many of our questions about the activities we'd booked in Periyar NP, they even saved breakfast for us when we were late back after our morning nature walk without us even asking them to. Our room was very spacious and had a lovely balcony area on top. The setting of the hotel is very scenic and despite being on a busy road it is quiet and tranquil. A bit warm at night due to no air conditioning.

- Ashank (10/5): Just Perfect. - One of the best hotels I have stayed. The hotel is not luxurious but vintage. Very well maintained and great attention to details. The breakfast was great. Highlight were the staff and the service they offered. The moment we entered they guided us with maps. I didn’t know about anything about Periyar Tiger reserve but after talking to them my day was sorted. Limited items in the cafe menu

Personale estremamente disponibile e gentile.
- Clément (10/5): A cosy jungle retreat - The Wildernest is a cosy small-scale hotel conveniently located right at the border of Periyar National Park. The staff here is so helpful and kind, rooms are huge and clean, and the restaurant offers delicious dishes with a beautiful view on the courtyard. Overall it's a 10/10, our stay there was perfect and i would have enjoyed a longer stay. Until next time!
- joanne (10/5): Great staff in a quiet but close ( 10 mins ) to everything above - Great little place close to the bamboo walk & the national park, get a buggy to take you round to the lake where you can book more trips. Nice town to walk round too, where you can pick up local spices & fab Kashmir scarfs for good prices & Monkeys & bird life all round Nothing
- Malavika (9/5): Very conveniently located to experience activities for National park. - Quaint and spacious, staff were very hospitable. I wish the cafe had a few more local delicacies on the menu. We had breakfast and lunch from the cafe, and went to a restaurant nearby to experience local cuisine.

- Anna (9/5): - Super friendly staff, lovely and spacious rooms and a great location very close to the wildlife park. Cafe was great too!! Shower could have a bit more pressure
- Rebeacca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kumar (6/5): Pleasant -
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Carolynn (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the layout of this hotel with its charming garden courtyard. The plum cake and tea was very welcome. There was a great roof top terrace to our room but this was only furnished by a concrete bench - a little more outdoor furniture would have made this a fantastic space to enjoy.
- Kelvin (10/5): Lovely staff, great location - Staff were very lovely and very helpful, always seemed to be smiling, Thankyou for a lovely stay.
Breakfast was good, cold coffees delicious
Very close to one entrance to the National Park and the bus park for boating and Nature walk, and close to resaturants
- Gillian (8/5): Lovely hotel, beautiful rooms, great location - The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, even at busy breakfast times.
The breakfasts were really delicious consisting of freshly made pancakes, toast, banana and a choice of eggs with tea or coffee and juice.
The rooms are very generous and spotlessly clean.
Perfect proximity to the tiger reserve. It advertised having a bath (one of the reasons we booked) but there are no baths in the resort so that was really disappointing, and they must remove bath from their description. This is the only reason it isn't 10/10 across the board.
- Mathew (8/5): Good place to relax - Cleanliness is top notch . Very helpful staff It’s a boutique property and the size of the property is very small so there ain’t much you can do at the property. There’s a cafe but you should be considering other hotels for your lunch and dinner .
- Nessa (10/5): Exceptional -
- José (10/5): Exceptional - This place is just paradise.
- Wolfgang (7/5): Idyllic scenery - Service needs improvement - * A hotel built from natural stone in the middle of a green oasis
* very friendly staff, helpful * No airconditioner in the room.
* frequent power outages (3 to 4 times in the night)
We (a couple) wanted to sit at a table for four pax for breakfast, but were asked to sit at a small table for two. 10 minutes later, 2 Indians came and were seated at the table for 4. 😞
* Poor breakfast, less choise, a terrible coffee taste (like colored water)
The order, how the breakfast was served is very strange;
They started
1. with the dessert (fruit and sweet pancakes (muffins with honey)
2. A glass of juice
3. omelet (that's how they called it even it didn't looked like)
4. NOW (after sitting there for 20 minutes, they asked us if we prefer coffee or tea.
5. After 10 more minutes they served 1 coffee but forget to serve my wifes coffee. We had to wait another 10 more minutes to get her black coffee.
6. Table water was only served on request.
In conclusion:
* This is a tea-drinking country. They have really NO IDEA what coffee should taste like.
* They should be more attentive and learn to serve the food in the right order. Start with the beverages and put the sweet stuff and fruit at the END of the meal.
* Good employee training would be appropriate.
But if ALL OF THIS this is INDIAN style then I'm wrong.
- George (7/5): Good -
- Deepana (8/5): Very good - The view, ambience and staff No activities
- Alastair (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (10/5): Fantastic place to stay - Loved the shape of the spacious rooms, loved the staircase to the balcony, loved that we could sit and watch monkeys in the trees by the balcony and watch them jump onto the roof of our room. And it was peaceful.
- Kurian (9/5): Fabulous! - Overall a great place to stay, this is our third stay and would love to come back.
- Gill (10/5): Exceptional - We loved this place. A great feel to the place, with 10 rooms around a courtyard, very friendly helpful staff and a lovely cafe. Excellent location for Periyar Tiger Reserve. Would definitely recommend
- Trudgie (9/5): Recommended - Highly recommend this small hotel. Lovely spacious rooms in a great location on edge of town, close to wildlife park and variety of restaurants. Staff were super helpful- had booked us various safari activities within half an hour of arriving - friendly and efficient. Would stay again. No curtains on some high up windows in the room means hard not to wake early.
- Helena (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, very large clean rooms in green garden setting. National Park across the road. Staff were lovely and helpful. Great value.
- Brydon (9/5): Pleasant stay. Very helpful staff. - Very friendly, attentive and helpful staff - assisted with all the questions we had. Great location - close to shops and departure point for the Periyar Tiger Reserve buses. Coffee house on site served good food for breakfast (included in what we booked) and dinner (paid separately). The floor in our room stained our socks/shoes. Would be easier for international guests to use dispensing soap/shampoo instead of blocks. Luggage storage wasn't secure - stored next to reception desk in the open.
- Nicola (10/5): Relaxing and cared for - Food was excellent. Staff were exceptionally helpful. Location great
- Rafael (8/5): Nothing to complain :) - Very helpful, thankful and friendly staff, clean and big rooms and good food in the hotel. Location between the entry of the national park and the places to get tickes quite good. If you want to eat at the hotel it is really worth it but you have to bring a bit time :)
- Brendan (9/5): Superb -
- Vassilena (8/5): Good. - Clean rooms with high ceilings and good bathrooms. Good ventilation. A cafe with a selection of international and Indian food. Easy parking. Great location for the national park on a quiet road off the busy town centre. Communication with the cafe staff - eg. requesting specific food item or adjusting a dish didn’t quite work out. I think the staff need a bit more confidence to say when they don’t understand a request. Also the room layouts vary quite a lot. The hotel should separate them on booking.com so it’s clear what room is being booked.
- Anonymous (8/5): Thr stay was excellent - Food and spacious rooms Near to road side
- Nicky (9/5): An amazing location with easy access to the Periyar Tiger Reserve bus stop. - Stunning location and beautiful design. Spacious room for couples. Staff very accommodating of our late arrival. We had to borrow a futon mattress from another room as ours didn't have one for our child - which meant we ere a little cramped.
- Fbmakrand (8/5): Great ambience and location. Decently priced. - Great location and breakfast. Service was good. Dinner option can be added ... Also, they can add a mini-fridge to the rooms for keeping stuff.
- Tyagi (4/5): Disappointing -
- Suprathik (9/5): Superb -
- Patricia (10/5): A safe bet for your stay - Rooms are big, spacious and very clean. The design is very original. Staff is helpful and the location is perfect, close to Periyar park and the main restaurants. Coffee shop in the same property. Some breakfast options for early activities in Perinyar would be nice (Ex. packed breakfast)
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - perfect location and very helpful staff 🙏
- Renjith (8/5): Nice experience - Centrally located with very easy access to nearby attractions. Rooms were spacious and clean. Staffs were very friendly and overall service was very good. There is no restaurant at the property. What they have is a cafe and hence the options are pretty limited. However you have other restaurants nearby. There was no air conditioner in the rooms but was manageable as the weather was kind of cool.
- T (9/5): Huge clean rooms with cool architecture - The rooms are very big (28m2) with high ceilings (two stories high) and interior staircases in the rooms leading to private balconies. The architecture of the entire property is cool, with a fieldstone façade. The property is designed around an internal garden / courtyard which helps to block the sound of the road. Directly across the road is a large bamboo grove on the edge of the national park. Unfortunately, no monkeys entered the property during our stay.
When booking the accommodation, based on the map, I thought and hoped that the property was outside of town, isolated in the forest. However, the property is in town, albeit on the edge of town, in a relatively quiet area (though restaurants, shops, the park booking office are only meters away). I was hoping for a more isolated spot.
- Athma (9/5): Superb -
- Suryakanta (9/5): Superb - beautiful property amidst marketplace, yet 3 minutes away from Periyar National Park..special mention about the staff, extremely cordial and polite. they are very helpful, ready to assist you anytime. Great stay.perfect breakfast!
- Christine (8/5): very nice accommodation with polite staff. shame about the monkeys. - it was in a good location both for the town and the Peryiar tiger reserve. the monkeys came around the terraces every evening which meant you couldn’t sit outside.
- Ramu (9/5): Superb -
- Nissam (10/5): Value for money - Environment
- Howard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gokulkrishna (8/5): Very good -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Allum (10/5): Excellent staff, very good accommodation and a perfect location. - it was small but lovely. fantastic value for money. in terms of position it was perfect, 5 mins walk from the Periyar Reserve ticket office, 10 mins walk from the nature walk/bamboo raft and the same from the centre of Kumily. The staff were excellent and couldn’t do enough. Value for money was excellent so there was nothing I didn’t like about the property.
- Dr. (10/5): 100% recommended for those who want to visit Periyar National Park - everything was great:
really very clean, spacious rooms with a balcony.
very friendly staff.
food was pretty good.
great location (2min to the tourist info centre, 5 min to bamboo grove).
cleaners will clean the room during the day. nothing
- Sophie (9/5): Superb - Location fantastic - if wanting to visit the Tiger Reserve; this is just down the road. Staff very helpful.
- Jon (10/5): fabulous location, very warm and genuinely friendly staff, great place for families with children - really interesting design and fabulous staff minor issues where the internet disconnected, and the range of food available was minimal, although the staff were kind enough to pack a lunch for us to take out when we had an early start.
- Peter (8/5): Very good - Best feature of this stay was the centralized location. If there is an intention to be involved with the available programs at the Periyar Tiger Reserve, this location is perfect since the 2 park entrances are between 5-10 minutes walk from here and the booking facility (ticket counter for the Periyar programs) was next door. Room was comfortable but basic. Hot water seems to be an issue here at times, and I had some issues with the wi-fi. Only breakfasts are available but there is no restaurant at the premises. A great restaurant option is next door to the property at the neighboring resort - top shelf restaurant there. Staff was very helpful and friendly. I thought the stay a bit pricey for the facility, but I believe its the location that makes this property a bit more expensive, and the centralized location makes this option quite attractive.
However, contacts at the property sourced the best jeep tour guide from the property Ask for the guy with the bright red jeep. Best jeep tour of the different ones I had while in Kerala - very enjoyable! Also recommended would be the nearby performing arts theater and martial arts exhibition, which is only a 5-minute walk from the property. I enjoyed the Thekkady area very much with my stay here for the week and gained an excellent photo log from the venture. Also some good souvenir shops in the area. No frig, hot water wasn't always available, wi-fi was come and go.
- Bhole (10/5): Exceptional - Good interior and food quality
Near to market
Value for money -
- Esha (9/5): Superb -
- Swaha (9/5): Superb - The staff was friendly, the rooms were big, clean and so were the washrooms. The dining area was bright and comfortable, although small. The location is great. The food menu was very limited, breakfast was repetitive and we had the same options all 3 days. The restaurant closed at 8.30 pm so we had to make sure we ate in before that or had to eat out.
- Kaur (8/5): Very good -
- Liam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (9/5): Gem of a place - Great location and the staff were so helpful. Excellent value for money. The shower wasn’t great.
- Keene (8/5): Very good -
- Sabu (8/5): Very good -
- Haresh (7/5): Good -
- Hemanth (7/5): Good -
- Jinang (7/5): Good -
- Jonas (9/5): Superb - - Located right at Tiger Reserve and close to restaurants
- Friendly staff
- you can watch monkeys, fruit bats, birds, etc from your window
- continental breakfast
- Karthikeyan (6/5): Average - Just the room alone No good breakfast
No room service
No proper Eseentials offered for the asking price of the room
No other recreations available in the property just other than being inside the room.
- Prakash Govind (10/5): - Absolutely mind blowing experience. Have stayed in several hotels in over 40 countries and have had several good experiences. But this tops it all, to date.
And what made the difference was the fantastic set of people who were involved in the day to day affairs of the place - Mr. Rollin Augustine, Mr. Debin Mathew, Mr. Manu Abraham and Ms. Ashwathi Rajesh. Fantastic cooperation by these 4 hotel staff made all the difference.
While I have had no interaction with the owner of this property, the fantastic and helpful people running its day to day affairs and the way this boutique property is maintained, speaks volumes of the hotel owner and his love for nature and for preserving nature.
Wish the entire team lots of good days ahead.
- Manoj (6/5): - No arrangement for tea/coffee in room. One cannot get morning tea before 7.30am.
There should BDS provision for booking activities on request by guest, on prior payment. We could not do bamboo-rafting, since the slots were full during our 2-day stay there.
- g bruce (10/5): Superb Rooms, Service, Location and Value - I love this place. The rooms are VERY large, and have an attractive, irregular shape and various appointments that make them very comfortable and just right for a country safari lodge. The bathrooms are very good and also large.
The common area/tea room where breakfasts and teas (including their fabulous English plum cake) is small and includes the reception area and adjacent kitchen, but this results in their very fine, attentive and friendly staff being constantly present and eager to help. They arranged for me an otherwise complicated ticket on the first, 7:30 am boat in the park.
With a very good location, rooms and service, I would enjoy staying in this place for weeks.
