- Marsha (8/5): - Interesting rt 66 classic motel. Friendly, informative owner. Noisy AC.
- Wendy (10/5): I would book it again in a minute ! The art work on the outside of the building was great also !!! - This was very clean both room and bathroom . Bed was comfortable , had plenty of towels , nice shower and inside has great pictures . Each room has a theme which is cool ! This was lots of fun because of the theme . Great owners that made you feel so comfortable! A wealth of information on the area! Great stay ! All! good !
- lyn (8/5): Sam, thank you so much. I did partake of an amazingly, delicious meal at the Dambar & Steak House! - Thank you Sam and wife for such a personable greeting, check-in experience. Sam, your unsurpassed knowledge of the area, history, etc. was remarkable! I enjoyed you taking the time to share even the 1st race of the Kentucky Derby on your TV!
Thank you wife for having the air conditioning, TV and light on when I opened the door for my stay! So fresh and inviting!
Thank you for the availability of the Bible and the Daily Devotional!! All were functional/operative (plumbing, electrical). The fresh, clean towels, amenities available. However, please consider continuing with the minor maintenance issues such as missing floor tiles (seal so the open areas can be routinely cleaned), replacing/cleaning molding shower curtains and rusty rods, fixtures, etc.

- Damien (7/5): Worth the experience - Location is great. Owners are quirky, carry on a bit but are a fun. No hot water. Front door looks like you could lean against to open

- Moore (10/5): If you’re going to do the Route 66 experience a place like the El Trovatore motel is a requirement - The owner was fantastic, historic place, was awesome and essential for a Route 66 experience Not much, anything you don’t like just chalk it up to the fact it’s a small motel
- Jim (9/5): Step into the past, and enjoy - The view was fantastic, the owner who checked us in was a wealth of local information and full of great history stories. I enjoyed a long morning walk and just let my mind go back in time, We will be back. It is a old motel so the outlets are few and bathroom (while very clean) also very small.
not really walking distance (but could be done) to the local breweries and a fantastic meadery "Hive Five Meade on 66
Overall a unique experience that we will do again
- Zeta (10/5): Amazing vibes! - Loved this motel, was the best night sleep we had, great location and atmosphere! The gentleman at the reception check in desk was so helpful and gave us a map and some great locations to visit on our route 66 road trip! We did go to oatman and it was worth the visit! And the Grand Canyon! Thanks again!
- mrandmissst (10/5): Awesome route 66 stop - My mom and I just did a route 66 trip. I had several motels on my list to stay on route 66, this was one of them. Check out justin scarred's video on this motel.
My mom and I stayed 3 nights but originally were only going to stay for one but we loved it so much we stayed for 3.
We had a large themed room (room 146) with stage coach and horses painted out side.
It had the classic route 66 that transports you back in time.
The had a microwave and refrigerator.
The owner Sam was great and gave us a lot of route 66 information and you can tell he cares a lot about the history of route 66.
- Rziemkowski (10/5): - Has the route 66 feel you'd want when planning your trip Was not long enough time here
- Susan (6/5): A bit of the old Route 66 vibe. - Cheerful, clean, nice people. Cute paintings on buildings and themed room decor. Some old classic cars on the property as well .had the Audrey Hepburn room, and when I came in, the TV was on with an old Humphrey Bogart movie to set the scene.😊 Tables and chairs outside to use (when it's not over 102 degrees. It was 90 when I left at 8 am!) The refrigerator was large, and had a good freezer compartment for my ice cooler packs. Dog friendly. I like the old-fashioned "motel" style. Air conditioning was off when I came, and it took two hours to bring heat below 80. (It was over 100 outside.) It would have been nice if they had turned it on when I made the reservation a couple of hours earlier. The mattress needed rotating as it was breaking down on the side toward the bathroom-a common occurrence in hotels. No surfaces to put things at normal level, only a bathtub covered with a flat surface. I have a bad back and can't bend down too much. Couldn't use outside table and chairs due to the heat. It's an old place and must be hard to keep up with.
- Kathleen (2/5): Go anywhere else. This is a terrible place. - They take dogs. The room was small, crammed, and very old. The bathroom was a horror. Old bath tub with a board over it - facets were removed. The sink was grubby and the water system rumbled - and exploded water all over me. The shower stall is low - husband couldn't use it. I was charged an additional $25 per dog (for cleaning?). The price of this old and crumbling motel was excessive - way more than other Motels around the area. Homeless were living at the back canyon of the hotel. Swimming pool was empty of water.
- Alexandre (10/5): - The motel was very cool, retro. We enjoyed our exchange with Sam, thank´s again for his presentation of the city and its surroundings.
Very good motel.
Alexander
- Russell (10/5): Themed retro rooms are fun. Lots of murals - Lots of murals and the owners support artists and they enjoy teaching facts about Route 66 and Kingman. Perfect for the Route 66 traveler.
- Todd (5/5): -
- Xavier (9/5): -
- Sharon (10/5): Very comfortable room in iconic location - Great stay on historic route 66 in iconic motel. So helpful with information on the local area, room was really comfortable and spotlessly clean, only sorry we weren’t there for more than one night. Would have liked a mirror in the bedroom but by n means a deal breaker , the bathroom mirror was okay!
- Ariana (8/5): -
- 165MarkP (2/5): Disgusting - This place is a complete disaster. Not sure where to begin but there's no one at the front desk until 3pm. Once you actually get into the office it is in shambles with the ceiling and light fixtures falling down. The room I was given had an entry door that did not close and seal which left a 1/4" gap you could see daylight through.
Once inside the room it was realized that everything was from the 1940's including the flooring, electrical and plumbing fixtures. I noticed a loud buzzing coming from the electrical panel on the outside of room which pretty much buzzed/vibrated the room constantly (Not sure if that is even safe for occupation?
The final straw was when I went to the bathroom later in the night and stepped on a large fresh cockroach that was not there before-I think I jumped high enough to reach the ceiling.
After that I gathered up my bags and checked out at 10 pm and was not offered another room or a refund. The proprietor pretty much told me to hit the road. I was so disgusted with this experience that I drove 4 hours home in the middle of the night (I NEVER drive at night!)
I really can't understand why this is still a legitimate business and highly recommend staying away....the whole site was sketchy and not worth stopping.
- Sandra (8/5): -
- Leslie (10/5): Would definitely come back - Love the property loved all the pictures opportunity on Route 66.. the owner was wonderful and gave out a lot of local information and history N/a
- Cooper (10/5): -
- Marilyn (9/5): - Loved the theme, murals, and layout of this historic Route 66 motel. Enjoyed the history of Kingman and the information and current restaurants/things to do. Excellent staff. Loved the art above our bed (see picture, looks like our bed is on Route 66) No ice! But did get directions to the nearest Walgreens 😊
- John (8/5): - Quirky and kitschy hotel with friendly staff. Good location to have some BBQ food. Bathroom.
- Mary (10/5): - Amazing, cute, route 66 motel! The TV was even on with TCM playing Roman Holiday. The bathroom is original with the tile and corner sink, old style commode. Sweet little corner bench and table for two. They bed was comfortable and AC great.
Samuel, the owner, knows a lot of town and motel history (next year-2026- is Route-66 centennial, so big plans for the whole route!) I actually have no complaints about El Trovatore.
There was only one outlet which was busy with the TV, fridge and coffee maker. No big deal, they didn't have gobs of devices in the 193
0's (there is a plug in the lamp in the bathroom for his electric shaver...hahaha)
If you are expecting a holiday inn vibe, do not pick this place. It is fun and campy.
- Christopher (8/5): - I stayed here like 20 years and the property is still in good shape. Its historical value to Route 66 is amazing!
- cathryn (10/5): - Fun property with lots of character.
Very clean & comfortable bed.
We would stay again
- Kim (4/5): - Honestly didn’t recognize this hotel based on the photos. The owner and his wife are very nice and obviously struggling with a motel that has seen better days. Rustic or run down.. this was definitely rundown with the bathroom sorely in need of some TLC and cleaning. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
- John (6/5): -
- Antonio (8/5): -
- marie (10/5): - We liked everything. But there was no ice machine. The owner was a wonderful, knowledgeable, funny gentleman. His wife was very nice also. Our room was very cozy. We would definitely come back.
- Eberhard (8/5): -
- Wedema (10/5): Kingman top motel - Locatie perfect op route 66. Tussenstop naar grand canyon. Goede restaurants op loopafstand, D'z diner, Dambar steak house, etc. Prijs-kwaliteit is prima.
- Myrna (8/5): Great Room - Great recently Refurbished room Reception area needs an upgrade
- Arianna (7/5): -
- Mateus (10/5): -
- Zoe (2/5): - This place had so much promise and I hoped it would be a memorable route 66 stay for us. Unfortunately the place is very run down. The final straw for us was a gigantic cockroach (and I mean gigantic) jumping out of our curtains and sprinted across the floor. We had been in the room for less than an hour and grabbed our suitcases and left. We didn’t try to get a refund nor speak to the reception about the issues. We knew that the response we would get wouldn’t be in the realms of professional customer service so we decided to save ourselves the negativity on our trip. We returned the next morning and put the keys into the drop box outside. Listen to the other reviews because they are true.
- Giulia (7/5): -
- Petra (7/5): -
- Cosimo (1/5): I bagni erano indecenti - Nulla Tutto
- Mark (10/5): - Each room has a different theme. Although old, I like the classic nature of the room I'm in (has a James Dean theme). Owner/manager Sam is also a delight at check-in. He regaled me with stories if the history of the area. A true delight to talk to him.
- Peter (3/5): Don't stay here - The owners are nice and friendly. Beds were comfy. By all accounts we had one of the nicer rooms, Clint Eastwood theme. However we were not impressed. No light or extraction in the shower. Bathroom basin was only fit for brushing your teeth. It had chips and cracks that had been repaired with silicone! Not hygienic at all. Also coffee stains up the wall above one bed. We were due to stay again 3 it's later, tried to cancel, but no reply from owner. Still no reply 2 weeks later.
- Gerard (5/5): 1 nuit maxi - l'emplacement
la décoration la propreté
cafards dans la chambre
sol sale
- Insuranceguy1962 (10/5): Experience a true piece of history! - Are you looking for true nostalgia? Does a motel deeply entrenched in Route 66 history and folklore interest you. If so, there is no need to look any further. Sam and Monica have perserved real history in the El Trovatore Motel perfectly. Come experience a true period correct motel, built in the late 1920's. It's super clean and the owners will provide you with so much history of the motel, the Kingman area and whats available in the area for you to experience while staying there. Check it out . . . you will not be disappointed.
- Peter (3/5): Needs money spending to update it, lots of it is original by the look of things, - owner is friendly and knowledgeable about the town very dated and unsanitary bathroom. No light in shower, no extractor fan, chipped and cracked sink that had been repaired with silicone! Not hygienic.
- Matteo (7/5): -
- John (10/5): - Fun to stay at because of all the murals on the outside of thebuildings . Very quaint! Very friendly!
- Carla (10/5): Route 66 Feel - Definitely has a” Route 66” feel to it. I loved the lady who checked me in. She was so personable!
- magdalena (2/5): - Shower broken. Very bad smell in the room.It is no longer a hotel, but old dilapidated houses where poor Americans live or the rooms are turned into warehouses. Nothing is repaired. I think there are only 2 hotel rooms left :(((((
- wanderingdog1 (2/5): We could not stay here, owners have not kept their word to refund our money. - We are driving Route 66 for a national magazine assignment, experiencing historic motor courts along the way. We were nearly three weeks into the trip by the time we landed here. While it looked charming from the photos, when we arrived, we decided not to stay. There were bugs in the room, and it was dingy and musty (sandbags outside are a telltale of flooding). The proprietors were friendly, but the office is cluttered and in disrepair. We booked the most expensive room, which the website stated had been remodeled. If it was, that was some time ago. When we brought up our concern about the bugs to the proprietors, and told them we needed to stay elsewhere, they agreed to refund our money. But it's been nearly a week, and they have gone ghost. The bugs probably weren't bed bugs, but in case they were, we didn't want to risk spreading them to other hotels and guests on this trip. I would also steer clear of this place if you have kids. There are permanent residents living either at the hotel, or nearby, who, sadly, have drug incapacitations. Part of the charm of staying in motor courts is hanging outside in the evenings and talking to fellow travelers. That would be risky here. If the owners read this, please just honor your word and refund our money so we close this chapter and quietly walk away.
- patrick (8/5): - Hollywood themed loved it
- Jenette (8/5): All The Route 66 Personality and Vibes - We loved staying in a unique and locally owned motel. There was plenty of space for the four of us. The motel is a type of retro-kitschy vibe that people will either appreciate or view as dated. We appreciated it! The owners are engaging and eager to help anyway they can. We have experience with older buildings, but we did find the shower a challenge. The room we were in, it was a dark space, and the plumbing was...quirky. But nothing we weren't able to work around.
- Kelly (10/5): - Staff were really knowledgeable about the area and very helpful. The rooms were clean and it was a great stop on our RT 66 roadtrip.
- Marcel (5/5): Passable - The hotel's themed exterior is very cool, and fits in well with Route 66;The person who greeted us upon arrival was very helpful. It's really annoying to arrive at your hotel after a long trip and find the minibar empty. We suggest stocking it with drinks, which you may be charged for later, but especially with cold water;
The room was very dirty, under the bed it looked like it had never been cleaned;
There is no light in the shower, the bath is in semi-darkness.
- Jeffrey (8/5): Very good - This is a very old, actually historic motel, and as such has its quirks. But it also has loads of character.
It also has themed rooms based around different stars, who may have even stayed there. This trip I stayed in the Marilyn Monroe room, I've also stayed in the James Dean and John Wayne rooms.
It's no Holiday Inn express or Marriot, it's a classic old motel, just like you might have stayed in when driving Route 66 60 years ago (except with AC!) The owners are trying hard, but it IS old. The most annoying things I found were a lack of counter space in the bathroom, just a small shelf mounted over the sink, and no place to hang a towel in the shower.
- Mandy (9/5): Charactaful property and host which made enjoyable stay - Great character and was what we expected.
Owner was very welcoming and gave great history of the hotel and surrounding area. There was nothing we didn’t like
- Phillip (9/5): Superb -
- Villa (2/5): Very poor -
- Stephen (6/5): Very cosy and friendly place - Themed rooms and Sam was a barrel of laughs A little run down in the older rooms and could do with some TLC
- Wyn (10/5): - Quirky. Great owner/customer dialog.
- Tammy (10/5): - This spot had a lot of charm and character! The owner was very knowledgeable about the hotel, the area as well as surrounding areas. This was one of the most fun stops on our trip!
The hotel is historic so it could be thought of as a bit rustic but it doesn't feel like it.
- Marc (10/5): - Sam and Monica were awesome! Loved hearing Sam's stories and informative information about the town. Will definitely stay again
- Cameron (2/5): I can not endorse this motel. - The owner is a well travelled person and knows his Kingman. and Route 66 history. I liked the idea of the historical significance of the hotel for our Route 66 trip from Chicago to o Santa Monica. The murals are great. Unfortunately the establishment has slipped even further into disrepair since my last stay in 2019. The neon tower is no longer working and it sounds like there is not much chance it will be fixed any time soon. I had prepared my son before hand that the rooms are very dated however when we found several bugs scurrying around we were a little freaked out. Then we found them outside the doorway as well. With a little research we discovered that the bugs were a cockroach native to Arizona. The owner did offer a different room but at that point we had decided we couldn't confidently stay there. We booked a room elsewhere.
- daniellec22 (4/5): Not amazing - Not a very good experience.
There’s a bright light shining in my room all night. The bathroom was so small, I could barely fit in there. Hslg the outlets not working, very loud from the street. just didn’t get a good feeling about the place. My room had no theme at all.
- Perea (5/5): Nice - Interesting/ ok property Plumbing
- Alice (7/5): Great service and friendly - Wonderful art on the walls No hot water in the shower
Needs a shelf in the restroom
- Jan Erik (10/5): - Got lot of information about the town.
- John (8/5): - .
- Chris (6/5): Pleasant - History is good, cute room. WiFi is not good and the bathroom sink needs replacing.
- Rolando (10/5): Route 66 classic - If you are traveling Route 66 and want the tru feel then staying at El Trovatore is great for the vibe. No luxury but clean and comfatable. loctaed close to old Kingman Historic store and restaurants and great part of Route 66 Kingman including a Mr. "D's" Dinner.
- Pam (8/5): Nostalgia stay on 66 - The history that is associated with this old original motel. We had the James Dean room
Room and stay were as expected per former reviews..
Owner Sam gave us the history... Great for a funky one night stay along Rt 66..
But although it was probably clean...we didnt use the old dark shower
( bed was comfortable)
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (9/5): Superb -
- Glory (7/5): Good -
- Andre (6/5): Very Old Motel - The outside was really cool looking, quiet spot but the bathroom was especially dated. However overall an ok stay for the night, no issues, super friendly manager.
- Christian (10/5): - An amazing and authentic Route 66 motel. Hosts were fun, friendly and welcoming. Gave some really useful information about Kingman and made the check in experience fun and memorable compared to most places. The room was quirky and felt really original like a time capsule. I'm glad route 66 still has places like this.
