• Madeline (9/5): Great value for money stay in a great spot - Morino Lodge is a great value for money stay in Akakura. A short uphill walk to the bus for access to the other resorts and is short walk to restaurants and shops. The lodge has a lovely onsen for afternoon recovery, the bedrooms are a good size, and staff are friendly. Only downfall is the slow breakfast in the mornings, but otherwise the breakfast itself is a nice spread of options.

• Gretel (8/5): Perfectly fine place to stay, not hugely over attentive staff, just enough to get by ;-) - Onsen, large Bed size and room size, The washing machine situation was excellent. Breakfast was European, missed that there wasn't even pickles to remind us we were in Japan. Beers on tap Staff although friendly, has a very relaxed - end of season vibe going on. Coffee, even when we paid extra to have a cappacino it was average
• Kerri (6/5): More like a backpacker lodge than a 4 star hotel! - Nice lodge with bigger than average rooms and comfy beds. Big and bright communal dining and lounge area. Good location just a short walk up the hill to the bus stop or Akakura Onsen chairlift. What could be a fantastic experience in a lovely lodge is let down by the staff issues, as mentioned in previous reviews. We decided to take a chance but realised the past negative reviews were 100% correct. The staff seem to outnumber the guests, and the majority were unfriendly unless spoken to first. Good luck getting a seat at the bar area, always full of staff and friends drinking....smoking at the front entrance door....parties and bonfires with snowboard jumping competitions outside guest rooms til nearly midnight...lots of staff in onsens washing clothes in change rooms and drinking together in outside onsens with guests present. This is a MANAGEMENT issue! Of course these young staff will take advantage if allowed. Even after complaining to one of the 3 managers Jeff, and a staff meeting ensuing, nothing changed. The other 2 managers don't seem to think this is a problem either. We definitely felt as if we were intruding in a backpacker lodge, but we definitely weren't paying backpacker lodge room rates!! Breakfast could have been amazing if it wasn't cold most of the time. Big choice of food but someone needs to sort out the bain maries, cold hashbrowns / eggs / mushrooms / bacon nearly every morning.

• Leanne (8/5): Thanks for looking after us for our first trip to Japan - Location was very close to the snow. Was a hill but you expect that at the snow. Close to dinner and ski locations. Rooms were comfortable and the indoor and outdoor consents were excellent. Highlight was sitting in the outdoor Onsen while it was snow. Also great to have the pizza as an option for dinner if you didn’t want to go out. Loved the views from the room!

Staff were relaxed, friendly and helpful. I accidentally booked rooms without a shower (triple check when you book if this is important to you) but the onsen area was lovely for showers and soaking (just no doors on showers).

Perfect ammenities for skiers/boarders - with a place to store gear at the entrance and a dry room downstairs for boots and wet clothing. A simple onsite bar was convenient as well as a homemade pizza offering. The complimentary western breakfast was a great way to start a day mid skiing. Room was plenty spacious and loved having an onsen on-site. Staff was warm and welcoming! Highly recommend.

• Caroline (8/5): - Breakfast was pretty basic but adequate - things were sometimes a bit slow to be topped up. Could have done with more fruit. The pizzas looked and smelled great and despite being advertised as only available on certain nights, we were told they were in fact available every night. We booked village restaurants for all bar 1 of the dinners that we had in Myoko and intended that night to order the pizzas, which had smelt amazing when we were having pre-dinner drinks there on other nights. Unfortunately we only found out about 6:30pm on the night we intended to stay in, they were short-staffed so weren't offering the pizzas that night. It took us a while to find a restaurant in the main street to be able to fit us in with no pre-booking. Would have been good to have a notice up about that earlier in the day. Some of the staff were excellent and appeared to work hard, others seemed just a bit too casual & laid back. The staff that live onsite apparently have tiny sleeping quarters & nowhere else to congregate when not working, other than in the same spaces - lounge/bar area - as the guests. They could get a bit rowdy after dinner with a few drinks on board. This only affected times when guests were also using the lounge area. They also share the same onsen facilities as the guests.

• Stephen (10/5): An amazing stay at Morino Lodge - This lodge has really been well set up for a ski trip! The rooms were clean, comfortable and warm. Breakfast was great, and the on-site onsen was amazing after a day of skiing on the mountain. The staff were also very helpful and picked us up and dropped us at the station as well. Overall a great stay and I'd definitely come back!

• LAK184 (9/5): Loved our stay! Will be back! - Fantastic stay at Morino! Would definitely return. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable, Netflix on TV (a must with kids!), awesome breakfast, great bar and common lounge, lovely indoor/outdoor onsens. We also loved that we could leave our skis up at Myoko Sports overnight so no need to walk up/ down with them (not that the walk is very far - 150m tops) Will definitely be back! Nothing!
• James (8/5): Nice basic stay, close to main area of Akakura. Comfortable facilities and relatively large room. - Good location. Pick up / drop off from train station. Breakfast was included. Room was a reasonable size. The onsen was good (although temperature was really unpredictable). We stayed in for pizza one night as there aren’t too many eating options in the village. The pizza was really nice (although we had to wait (literally) 2 hours for it) and the availability can be hit and miss (it was snowing heavily one night and windy so thought we’d stay in but we’re told when ordering that the ’chef’ wasn’t working that night. Just meant we had to go and play in the snow. Breakfast rush often meant items were empty and staff struggled to keep up stock so things were often empty. Was a nice basic ‘buffet’ style though. I thought we had our own bathroom when booking but when we got there realised we did not. Might have been my interpretation when booking though (although I usually pay attention to that). The shared bathroom/ onsen was good though. The dry room was too small. Often having to compete for space meant snow gear often wasn’t able to dry properly and other guests often moved our gear to make way for theirs.

Ping pong table was a hit with the kids. Massive breakfast buffet. Good selection of games. Delicious pizza, good bar on site. Staff especially Miyu was really kind and helpful with all our questions, and Jeff was great too. Thanks guys. The walk up the hill to the ski slopes. More hooks or somewhere to hang wet towels would be good.

Good size with tatami floor beds in one room and western beds in the other room. Free breakfast was provided which was perfect before a day of skiing. Loved the common lounge/ dining/ bar area, it was a great place to hang out. The common dry room was convenient for storing ski gear and laundry room was useful too. Staff were amazing- always happy to help. Thank you to Jeff, Miyu and team.

You are still at max 10min walk from most restaurants. - Breakfast was good, a bit repetitive but you have the choice between cereals, yoghurt, bacon and eggs, bread, etc. - Super friendly staff - Happy hours - The tennis table Heating in the room was slow to reach a comfortable temperature, we turned off the heating during the day and when leaving the room for dinner but it took forever to heat again and barely enough to feel warm. - The shower was leaking, it was quite a mess in the bathroom
• David (1/5): Worst stay I have ever had. Checked out 2 days earlier than planned as we couldn’t take it anymore - Nothing Rooms were dirty. Bathroom shower curtain had black mold. Carpet was disgusting Staff made you feel like you were in a backpacker lodge and you were intruding. Breakfast was ordinary at best. Half of the food was cold and nobody checked to see if anything needed to be replenished. Never ever again. Location is a 500mtr walk uphill on a road to get to the slopes or shuttle bus which was not easy with your ski boots on. No offer of a lift uphill from the hotel even though it was stated in the brochure in the room. Even when I asked there was no one available.

Nice breakfa - Close proximity to town and lifts, great lodge feel, friendly staff, lovely rooms. I would definitely stay again. I loved the family bedroom great mountain view. Thanks all for making our stay lovely. Best espresso martini’s in Myoko. Nothing bad to rate
• Janice (3/5): Extremely disappointing and not what is described on their website. - Female Japanese staff member was excellent, she embodied the true graciousness of the Japanese people. Jeff who checked us in was very welcoming. We will leave this honest review because we do not want anyone else to be misled by the Morino Lodge website: - was not clean- room was filthy- stains on carpet and walls- exposed wires inside mini bar fridge- shower curtain covered in black mould. - furnishings are old, worn and dirty. The photos on the website do not depict what you actually receive. - breakfast was terrible- very low quality food- some food was burnt/ inedible. Website states fresh baked goods, this is not the case. - location of property/ access to ski hill- steep climb/dangerous, busy road (definitely not a 3 minute walk) dangerous in ski boots. When this was mentioned to the manager, he never offered free shuttle service which is mentioned in the booklet in your room. No free shuttle services offered to other ski resorts as mentioned on their website. - when we checked in, Morino Lodge staff were lying all over the seating, bare feet on throw blankets. One staff member was picking her toes 🤢. When Jeff introduced us to the staff, they never acknowledged us, they continued scrolling on their phones. - Morino Lodge wants staff to mingle with guests, and for guests to feel at ease, but this does not occur. Guests are not acknowledged, staff dominate the bar and lounge areas to the detriment of paying guests. Conversations between management and staff should be kept private and professional. On several occasions the manager was overheard swearing at staff. - unfortunately (or the Universe working in our favour) the first 2 days of our stay, our bathroom flooded with putrid,dirty water. The manager said this had happened in other ensuite rooms and was caused by pipes having moved during the recent earthquake. We asked to be moved to another comparable room but there was not one available. We requested a refund. The manager had to ring the owner to get approval as he said he did not have the authority to refund us. He contacted the owner, who then authorised a full refund.

• Jesse (10/5): Next time I visit Myoko, I'm definitely staying here again. - The staff are awesome, make you feel at home and the entire vibe of the place is really relaxed. Big shout out to Dougie and the whole crew (sorry I didn't get everyone's names but they all remembered mine =)). The bartenders make great drinks, the drinks are priced really well (it's always happy hour), and the breakfast is solid every morning. The other facilities here are great for skiers/boarders. The dry room and waxing stations have everything and plenty of room for many guests. And a soak in their onsen was great every evening after ripping the slopes. Not much to complain about here!
• Katrina (10/5): A formative life experience that shaped me for the better. - In my 36 years of life I’ve never experienced such awe and inspiration in the form of accomodation. Staying at Morino Lodge was like being hugged by a large giant cat whispering fairy tales in my ear. I endeavour with all my might every day to return. Leaving.
• Duncan (9/5): We had a wonderful stay with great hospitality and we also had excellent snow which was a bonus! - The Onsen was great! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was convenient, close to the shops and restaurants, etc. Good facilities for storing ski gear. No major issues….. the heating in the room was very difficult to regulate.

• Damian (8/5): fabulous - Good sized lodge; great ambiance at the lodge, very easy to meet people; also the bar! good coffee optionally purchase at breakfast time very good thank you; staff most helpful and smiling, nice relaxed feeling We felt at breakfast maybe offer Japanese choices especially great vegetables; some times we felt the breakfast could have been hotter, but overall good western choices

• Pelaez (3/5): Fairly disappointing. - Breakfast was good and transfers were convenient. We didn't have a finished made bed, rubbish bin was full. Pillows were too flat and small.
• Belinda (7/5): Convenient location, warm & good vibes - Nice, friendly vibes in the common areas. Yukiko was very nice & helpful. Although it was an uphill hike to the ski area/ bus stop, the location was convenient. Appreciated the pickup from the train station & sendoff to the Shuttle station. The bathroom was uncomfortably cold. Would have been good to have a portable heater in there, but there wasn’t a power outlet.
