Guest Reviews
- Cole (10/5): - It’s nice quiet My tv never worked
- Cole (8/5): It was truly great - It’s great The tv wouldn’t change channels but I was here mostly for sleep
- Genoji (9/5): -
- Paula (10/5): I will stay again - Everything was very nice
- Marcia (9/5): -
- Warram (7/5): It was nice enough for just resting at the end of day and breakfast was good, just needs some updating. - Convenient location and easy parking. Quiet nights, Pool was too cold to swim, no elevators for taking bags inside, our room was not cleaned/trash taken during our 4 night stay. The phone in our room did not work and the hair dryer kept falling off the wall.
- 944tammyv (8/5): Nice hotel but not for swimming - This is a very nice hotel, and we would stay again if we didn't have children. We planned a night of swimming and fun, as our 2-7-year-olds were excited. Unfortunately, we didn't get that fun as the pool was so cold that the kids' lips were turning blue! The hotel itself was very nice, and even the pool area was nice and big, but again, the cold was disappointing as the kids didn't get to swim.
- kevinmY1057QH (10/5): Great place to visit - Friendly staff and clean rooms
- Joseph (8/5): -
- Brown (4/5): - Location The fireplaces were not working. I did not get reimbursed for any nights we didnt have fireplace and have to deal with a bunch of heating issues and we got moved twice. Rooms were not cleaned as they should have been.
- Shandra (8/5): - Got us into a new room quickly when heat didn't work in our first room. Clean rooms. Water was cold in pool.
- Marti (3/5): It was better than sleeping in a tent. - Breakfast was horrible. The lack of upkeep and maintenance of the facilities.
- William (7/5): - Breakfast was simple but good. Rooms were decent and parking very good. Towels were smallish and thin. Lacking body wash in shower. Chair was worn and flimsy.
- Joy (7/5): - In the morning breakfast was to be from 6-10. There was no one in the breakfast area, no food out, and no one was at the front desk. There were people stanidng in the lobby waiting to be checked out. Finally at 8 a.m. the front desk person had to start getting breakfast out. (Someone did not show up for work.)
- Spencer (8/5): -
- Deborah (8/5): very nice stay and quiet area with nice people - location. size of room clean quiet overnight eggs and coffee
- Raymond (5/5): Unfortunate situation caused a forgettable hotel one-night stay. - Location was fairly close to the event I was participating at. Close to food/restaurants and shopping. Water pipe busted in the laundry room of the hotel flooding a portion of the main lobby/front desk. The flooding knocked out the DirectTV access to the hotel. Fire alarms went off that evening intermittently, assuming to the flooding that occurred within the laundry room. Parking lot was completely snow covered and packed, and didn't look like it was ever going to be cleared/plowed.
- Trinity (8/5): - Very clean, well kept. Pool was freezing. I don't think the heater was on at all.
- Barbara (10/5): - The room was nice and clean. Breakfast was delicious too. Coffee could be better
- 560allenm (8/5): Iowa funeral trip - Breakfast was hit and miss, no OJ, Sat., no sausage or milk on Sunday. Not the number of entreys we normally find. Beginning to show wear in bathrooms and carpets. Public area and pool not picked up.
- Susan (10/5): - Easy reservations and check-in. Comfortable beds. Great shower. Good hot breakfast.
- KC (2/5): - BEDBUGS!! They guy at the desk was unfriendly and unwelcoming. Made sure to let us as well as the fella ahead of us know we are an inconvenience especially because we booked 3rd party.
When doing the room walkthrough I discovered bedbugs. I went to the desk retunrned the keys and asked for a refund. I was told he can only cancel the reservation. He stated I will have to fight with my 3rd party (Expedia) to get a refund.
- Barbara (10/5): Weekend get away - Love the room and the hot tub. The breakfast was wonderful this morning. The old recliner chair in the room.
- Ronald (10/5): -
- Alana (2/5): - We were put in a room that seemed to be crumbling with age. The TV console dresser looked like it was falling apart, there were rust stains in the bathroom, in the whole room smelled of mildew. We were only there for a couple of days so we put up the tag that said do not disturb (yes, it was absolutely the side that said do not disturb) and we had left some clothing on our bed because of it- and when we came back that night- even with the same side of the tag hanging on the door, and walked into the room the bed had been made which made my wife and I very uncomfortable that someone had completely ignored the sign the hotel provided and touched our personal items. The only space in the hotel that was actually clean was the breakfast area, but the other hotel guests were very rude. Sky at the front desk was helpful as was the woman running the breakfast setup while we were there, other than that, no staff members would give us the time of day. This was was such a disappointing stay.
- Arria (10/5): - We had a nice stay
- Katherine (4/5): - The Inn was beautiful until you enter the room.
The parking lot was full , mostly because we got there at 830 at night. There was a crowd outside til about 10ish. There was hair and soap scum in the sink and tub. One lamp was missing a lightbulb. When we got there, the toilet papaer roll was empty! After a long trip, what does one normally have to do....use the bathroom. The man at the desk was so rude! Wouldnt even look at me....
- Dennis (4/5): Disruption of quietness. - Our first overnight, the fire alarm went off at 5am with a loud shrill noise for no known reason and when I asked the manager, he had no explanation as to why it happened. Additionally, the following morning the telephone stated ringing at 5:30am and again, for no known reason. It certainly was not a pleasant experience either day.
- Denise (10/5): - We have slept in several hotels this trip and even though I don't remember specifics I do remember my husband and I being very pleased with everything!
- Claire (10/5): - Nice stay, good value.
- Escobedo (4/5): Room #12 was clean. - Clean hotel and quiet. The TV service did not work DIRECTV and Roku TV. I tried to notify the front desk over the phone, never picked up. I had to walk over to the front desk with my pet. My pet and I had to wait in hallway for several minutes while the front desk clerk tried to fix the TV issue. Hotel desk clerk was not able to repair the issue. I don’t understand why the hotel clerk did not even suggest to accommodate me to an other room, I’m spending more than $170.00 in room # 12 and did not even made a suggestion how make up for the defective TV service. Also the latch on the door was broken.
I believe this hotel is well recognized however staff needs to make sure each guest is well taken care for.
- Odyssey66138462674 (10/5): Everything was great - Everything was wonderful rooms was great the staff was wonderful 😊 Breakfast is was great we add the stay until 1:00 which added another $25 on to the bill which was just fine for us we need the extra sleep anyway
- Roxanne (10/5): - First time staying at an Americinn. Would stay again
- Colon (10/5): -
- jammie (6/5): Was pleasant ,bed was soft and pillows are tiny . - Location and price Pool and hot tub needs work . A lot of unfinished maintenance work. Bath fan was not hooked up . Growing mold in bathroom.
- Joanne (8/5): - A bar of soap was left stuck to the tub from the prevoous occupant. The room also smelled a little musty and felt a little damp.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Less than expected - This hotel is pretty run down - blinds in room broken, ice machine out of order, air conditioning not working well in halls and lobby, pretty worn.
- Daniel (8/5): - Pool hours. Nice carpeting and window shades.
Remote was troublesome. No fruit for breakfast.
- Kevin (8/5): - Pool was cold. Hot tub was luke warm
- Mike (6/5): - Dried spots on sheets and pillowcases. Dirty hand prints on bathroom walls
- U9881YGkevinb (4/5): - The property has definitely become more run down since we stayed here in 2021. Holes in the wall in our room were patched but not painted. Furniture had seen its better days. Parking is ample and convenient but much needed resealing is long overdue. Hallway had missing ceiling tiles and baseboard molding. Orange juice machine at breakfast was out of order. Maintenance is not a priority here. This was our last stay. Room rates are too high for this rundown property. There are better options in Algona but skip the Super 8 by Wyndham.
- Diane (6/5): - The room was clean for the most part except our fridge was broke it froze everythg and the knob was broke off inside so u couldnt adjust it and the bath tub need replaced it was discolored due to excessive wear on it . I realy didnt feel safe there there was always guys standing outside the entrance to the building
- Brad (9/5): -
- Randy (8/5): - Room was nice, but went to go have a couple drinks at the bar and no one was there. We waited a good 15-20min before going to hyvee and instead had drinks in our room.
- Brianna (5/5): Passable - Staff were nice, lobby was clean. We weren’t overly impressed with our stay. There was a bad water leak outside our room (which we get things happen). Our fridge had frozen water and food from previous stay. Made us wonder if they really even cleaned the room or changed the sheets or just mad the bed. We got 1 channel on our tv. That was rather annoying, especially watching the same episodes over and over. They did have a bar there, wasn’t very stocked at all.
- Jason (9/5): Superb -
- Terry (6/5): - Bathroom was not cleaned. Toilet was noticably used and floors were not vacuumed. We laid towels on the floor to walk just in case. White stain on carpet was noticable furniture was in rough repair. Hallways or back exit areas were not vacuumed.
- Trenton (1/5): Avoid at all cost - The bed when finally able to sleep on it was a comfortable and the lazy boy was good to sleep in considering it was a chair and not where I had wanted to sleep. When I arrived which was at 8 pm at night the room looked like someone had just climbed out of the bed and took a shower. There was towels all over the bathroom floor and the bed linens looked like someone had just thrown them off. There was also still garbage in the bins and chips or cracker crumbs on the bed. When I went to ask the front desk no one was there which was a common occurrence almost everyday. Woke up the 2nd day after sleeping in the chair with no blanket cause I didn't trust the bed to no one in the lobby. Used the lobby phone as it said to and it sounded like I woke someone up who said they'd make sure to change the linen. Asked if there was a breakfast as its one of the main things I look for when booking rooms for work and the hotels website said continental breakfast from 6-9 am. It was 630 and the person informed me no. When I returned after work and the gentleman was at the desk he said yeah their is always breakfast at 6 am and I informed him there wasn't this morning he said when he arrived at 7 there was so he didn't know. The next day when the breakfast was there all it was was weird tasting sausage and hard bread. Would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Tanner (2/5): - The room I got was ok but bed didn’t look made well. The chair in the room (lazy boy) was broken. The shower head barely had pressure. The fridge in the room was dripping water and didn’t keep anything cold. Their coffee in the morning was horrible. And they didn’t even open the breakfast one day we were there. And then the next few days they had stale baked good and a gentleman said don’t eat the sausage cause it had a weird smell and taste. Also my Crewmans room when we got there was already used and dirty and after asking the front desk they said there’s nothing they can do so he had to sleep in his chair till room service cleaned the room the next day. I will never stay here again!! Also they say they charge you 50.00 for a hold on damages but then randomly they charge you 66.00.
- Mike (7/5): Good for a night mostly construction workers there. - Clean room, comfortable bed and the building was quiet. Breakfast needed work. No coffee 1/2 hour after breakfast started. Waffle maker was on low so waffle didn't cook right, pancake maker out of order. Apple juice was out. Eggs are tiny little scramble circles.
- Brandon (1/5): I always stay at Wyndham when traveling and have never experienced anything like this trip. - I did not like anything about our stay this time Asked for 2 double beds. Got one king room it hadn't been made, the room had not been cleaned so we had to get another room that one did have 2 queen size beds and he said he would give us a discount I just received my bill today and it was $50 higher than originally. $194.00 The second room we were in the TV didn't work the telephone didn't work the electricity didn't work and it was very dirty. Also the pool was never lit up we had to request him to turn on the lights. We used our room keys once and they could not be used again had to get them replaced. No ice in ice machine. It was totally a disaster.
- vickiej645 (8/5): Sisters birthday weekend - The staff was friendly and helpful. The beds were comfy and the room was clean. The first room smelled really bad so they moved us immediately. The bar and breakfast were disappointing. The ads said restaurant on site which was nonexistent..big disappointment
- V4908NXtimc (10/5): Excellent - Best place to stay. I like the cleanliness and smell in the room. The pool and hot tub was awesome, which is great, and the hot tub feels good. Breakfast wasd; there weren't more options, but whatever they had was really good. I will stay here again.
- Dean (8/5): Would stay again when in area - nice pet friendly facility, comfortable bedding, very clean
- Cesar (10/5): - Enjoyed my stay. Breakfast was good too
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (1/5): Bad - Are stay was very disappointing they need to fix their amenities and the breakfast was horrible.
Being an American inn they need to do better we won't be staying ever again if these items are not taken care of.
- Iris (10/5): Exceptional - Great staff, very friendly.
- Joey (8/5): - Ok
- Owin (9/5): Superb -
- Erika (10/5): - The breakfast was very good, with a full range of standard options (including sausage and eggs) despite it being a weekday in Algona, Iowa. The staff was friendly & accomodating. Very pleasant experience.
- Becky (2/5): Was very disappointed and won't stay here again. - The breakfast lady was very friendly. The front desk lady was not friendly at all. Tried asking for help on something and she was stand offish from the beginning. The shower walls had dried snot from the previous person on them. Room had a weird smell.
- Edward (10/5): We will be back. - We were crunched for time and allowed to check in early. Yes 10.00 charge but it was worth it us. We stayed here 2 yrs ago and will continue to stay here when visiting family in the area. Service top notch.
- Whitney (4/5): - Walked in and was fussed at for using Expedia. I asked for early check in and the guy had no clue. Thankfully the room was ready. Got to the room and the fireplace doesn’t work. The door also had a crack that you could see into the hallway between the frame and the door. Staff was rude the whole time and hardly ever looked us in the face or spoke to us unless spoken to. Didn’t charge us for a hold the first two nights but put a hold on for the third night. Then after we left they tried 3 times in as many hours to charge us an additional $50. Room wasn’t bad but not great. Hair in the bathtub and an empty alcohol bottle in a side table. They also won’t drop the hold on the card without stating why. Pool was also freezing and the jacuzzi didn’t work properly. We were not notified about the jacuzzi. The “bar” that they advertise for is drinks in a cooler behind the counter. No lounge like advertised and they didn’t have everything they advertised for. The lady clearly didn’t know what we were asking for. Also was accused of smoking very rudely.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Staff was rude, came to our room and accused us of smoking, going so far as to threaten to call the fire department. They could have happily done so as nobody was smoking in the room. We did have to walk past people smoking directly outside the front doors nearly every night of our stay however.
Moreover, they tried to upcharge the room we got on Expedia saying “it’s the wrong SKU” despite it being THE SAME ROOM we were in from my wife’s prior booking, with the same listing.
If you have no other options, and there is fire raining from the sky, stay someplace else
- susanvM9358PZ (6/5): Nastiest Coffee Ever and Dog Doo - Room cleanliness was ok. Bed was comfortable. Thought we would go to the lounge for a drink. There is no lounge, as advertised. The morning coffee was the worst coffee we have ever, in our 60 plus years, tasted. We couldn't even drink it! Tasted like it maybe brewed for a week or two. Breakfast bar was minimal and definitely nothing special. The chairs in the breakfast area were dirty. The worst was the disgusting exterior grounds of the building...many piles of dog poop on both sides of the doors, cigarette butt's all over, dead shrubbery and garbage in the parking lot. A good exterior clean up is badly needed.
- O6213UBisraelr (8/5): Work - Had a great day the beds were comfortable person at front desk was friendly and courteous, and helped out and got us checked in quickly had a great day overall breakfast area was good. They had pancakes, cereal, yogurt, the regular things that you find at a hotel to eat.
- Trudi (8/5): - Didn’t realize towels weren’t replaced but facilities were very goid
- Jesi (8/5): Very good - I didn’t love that the pool was under maintenance and we didn’t get notified. We had two kids with us looking forward to swimming. Just a heads up would’ve been nice.
- Laurie (8/5): Really nice stay for value - We didn't eat The pool was enjoyable. Halls were clean.
- Timothy (10/5): - Nice place to stay
- Craig (6/5): - Rooms were decent, but my room had issues.
Sink faucet dident work.
The jacuzzi had bugs crawling out of the drain all over the bottom of the tub… made me nervous.
The price I paid for the room dident reflect the quality.
- Yvonne (8/5): It was ok. - Clean Bathroom was really old looking. Rust around the door trim, busted up caulking around the toilet, and badly stained tub floor.
- valleylaura (6/5): Very disappointed. - Very disappointed. We’ve been staying here for years. Our family has made it our home base for family gatherings since they first opened.
This visit we couldn’t help but notice the whole place smells moldy or mildewy. Room service is nonexistent.
They didn’t even bother to come into our room one day.
Another day it looked like they had thrown the comforter onto the bed from the hallway and called it good.
The comforter smelled used.
Breakfast was not only bland and boring but it didn’t even offer fruit.
There were large chunks of rocks and gravel in hot tub.
The towels in the pool area have always been a joke. Teeny tiny. Almost like they are afraid you might use them to dry off. But this time I noticed they are not only small but also almost threadbare.
What’s up with this AmericInn???
This use to be our go-to spot in Algona.
I think we need to try one of the other options in town. Something I’ve avoided doing so far but if AmericInn can’t be bothered with taking care of their property and maintaining it to an acceptable level than I don’t think we’re interested in staying there any longer. Sad day!
- Jane (10/5): - Clean, quiet and reasonable. Will stay there again
- N5883YBbeckym (4/5): Would not recommend - I called on Thursday to make a reservation for 2 rooms on Friday night. I was told the rate was $97 plus tax for each room and given a confirmation number. We arrived Friday night and was told they "couldn't find" our reservation and charged me $207.44 for ONE room! She said that they were busier now so they were charging the higher rate.
I had to argue and show her on my phone where I had called with the date and time posted in my recent calls list. I even hit redial and the phone next to her rang to prove that I had called the right number! She finally said she would adjust back to the rate I had been given when I reserved the rooms, As of Sunday the charge still is posted on my card account as $207.44, I told it takes a few days to change....I'll be watching.
The room had an unpleasant odor and was mediocre at best, certainly NOT worth $207/night! Breakfast was lousy, but typical fare for this type of motel.
- Amber (8/5): - Was good service
- Gary (10/5): - Like staying there.
- Amber (6/5): - Our bathroom has black mold on almost every single ceiling tile & the room smelled dirty and like tobacco. We also had several ladybugs all over the ceiling in the room. The microwave is extremely outdated & so is the tv. It just did not feel clean or updated.
- William (2/5): Incredibly Bad beginning to early end - Horrible. Room was dirty, walls, mirrors and toliet all had remnants of staining. TV not working... turned around and left feeling bad karma. Rude front desk employee would not refund our payment.
- rogermO3341QO (2/5): NOT your best choice. - We are considering a move to the area, and stayed over a couple of nights in our search for a home. We checked into the hotel, and received our room assignment. Upon entering the room, it was an absolute pigsty. VERY messy. It was obvious there was some miscommunicated between the cleaning crew and the front desk as to which rooms had been cleaned. We were assigned a second room, which had been cleaned, but it was apparent that it was a "quick-over" at best. We chose not to stay and checked out. Seeing all of the goofing around that the cleaning crew was doing at the front desk, left no doubt as to why they were having such problems. They need to fire these teen-agers, and get some serious help!
- Devin (9/5): Superb -
- Cynthia (10/5): - Easy checkin, nice staff, quiet. We stayed 2 nights. Would be nice if when checking in to pay if staff person would mention any discounts like aarp etc.
- David (10/5): - Quietist hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Super clean. Great staff.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Stephanie (4/5): - When we opened the door to our room and walked in, instantly we all could smell a very bad musky odor that smelled like mold. I immediately went to the front desk to report what we could smell the front desk assistant went to the back room and came back out and tried to hand me some air freshener. I asked him what would you like me to do with the air freshener and he said well you could spray it and then it wouldn’t smell like mold. Explain to him, that’s not how you get rid of the smell as I would like a new room due to the fact that I’m allergic to mold and I have a eight-year-old son that is severe cardiac. The clerk was very confused as I had to explain to him that I needed a different room or I would not be able to stay in his hotel. He gave me a room with one bed for four people, as he never apologized was very rude and mad that he had to look for a new room Didn’t even offer me a rollaway bed. I had to ask for one as we were waiting for the new room we were sitting in the waiting area. He gave us keys. We went into the new room as it was fine, but then I still had to go ask for a rollaway bed , then when I asked for a rollaway bed, he said I’m sorry. Could I switch you to a different room which was the same thing one for four people very irritating. We stayed two night as for the second night I had to ask for a room with two beds again no apologies nothing. Then the 2nd night a fight broke out in the hallway around 3am waking up my whole family. We had to call local
- Marcia (8/5): Very good - Not much for someone who has allergy to dairy. No fruit, non dairy items.😒
- Bobbi (6/5): - Basic hotel. The room I had smelled wet and musty. The shower nozzle wasn’t installed properly and sprayed into the bathroom area when turned on. Ice machine never worked. Neither did the soda machine. My door to my room was hard to open and close making it very loud to do either. Staff was very friendly though.
- Michael (10/5): - Price point and location are great. I did not like the process to use the TV.
- Randy (10/5): - Staff was fantastic very welcoming and helpful .....the only thing is asking for a rollaway they charge for that where ot says complmentary
- Mona (8/5): - Clean
- Miller (10/5): Great place - Great breakfast
Clean
Friendly
- Zach (10/5): Exceptional -
- Billie (1/5): Bad -
- Antonio (3/5): I would not recommend this hotel to any family. - The rooms were clean. When we first checked in we were given a room that had not been cleaned but the manager corrected his mistake and gave us a clean one. They was a group of men staying there. When we first went to our rooms there was loud music, one room-the door was wide open and was real messy, there was a smell of someone cooking in their room and there were men sitting in the hallway. Felt very uncomfortable. I was concerned for the safety of the young ladies who cleaned the rooms. Also there were no ELEVATORS!
- Krystyna (10/5): - Very nice people, a clean property with a good, hot breakfast.
- Jaques (9/5): Superb -
- Cindy (6/5): - I'll start with good. The pool was nice. Thats it. The hot tub was broken. The room was filthy, other people's hair in the bathroom, the floor around nd the toilet was disgusting, the last people's trash was still there. And in the middle of the night an alarm went off in our room, scaring us, waking us. When i complained in the morning I was told it was the humidity. Also our room was advertised as "soundproof" which was a selling point. It was not soundproof. Very, very disappointed and won't ever be back.
- MIKE (10/5): - I loved the cushioned chair in my room. Very different from other places I’ve been in
- Salina (2/5): - The pool/hot tub was completely closed. Under maintenance. No sign out front saying that. No manager on site when I asked for a refund. They wanted to charge a "per" fee for my trained and certified service dog. Tried checking in and got told we would have to pay a 50.00 dollar damage fee, waiting to see if it gets payed back. Room smelled awful. Hot water worked half the time. Front desk person barely spoke English. Extremely unhappy and disappointed in America Inn. Contacted Expedia for a refund, wanting to hear back from them. WILL NOT STAY HERE AGAIN.
