Guest Reviews
- Azita (10/5): - We love this place. Gorge and his family were so nice and kind. We highly recommended.
- Tracy (10/5): - Very nice cabins in a quiet setting. Nothing fancy but super nice owners with an excellent breakfast. Close to quite a few nice hikes
- Heidi (10/5): - A beautiful place run by a very nice, hospitable family. I think I was the only one there! Nice, clean and comfortable room, with a great shower. No AC, but the mornings and evenings let in a cool breeze, and the fan was sufficient. Great breakfast included in the morning. Would highly recommend.
- Fer (10/5): - Muchos hospitalidad y un gran señor quien nos atendió
- Bruce (10/5): - What a great spot! So peaceful and clean with the best folks ever to help you out. I used it as a base to explore Volcan Miravalles which has a trailhead a 1km away. Wish I had a few more days to hang out.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A simple but confortable, clean and ffiendly place to stay near Miravalles volcano.
- Tiffany (4/5): - Owner: friendly& will help get transportation setup to the property. If you don't have a car, I strongly advise you not to stay here. It isn't walkable & if you aren't on the route to LIR,roads are terrible. Property landscaping is pretty.I had asked if we could see the coffee plantation via messaging and he told us we could see production, however after checking in at 3:30p, he just pointed to where the beans were growing & told me which way to go in the pathway to get to them. Room: clean, but very basic. There were 4 of us& it had exactly 4 towels. No washcloths or hand towels. We asked for 1 more towel in the morning & he said there were no more. No air conditioning, so it's hot & humid. I asked for an extra fan& he brought one quickly. Beds are very hard (I think very firm memory foam mattress) & have half sized pillows. Bathroom door had a lock on the outside which seemed odd, you could actually place a pad lock on it to lock someone in. Maybe this is common in Costa Rica? Absolutely nothing to do w/ kids& no food on the grounds, no bottled or filtered water. He said there was a restraunt 400 meters down the street, but it was pouring rain all evening &we had no car, so we couldn't go eat.For breakfast, you do not get a choice: SMALL bowl of fresh fruit, 1 scrambled egg, about 1/4 cup rice/beans, small slice of avocado (maybe half of a 1/4 avocado), 1 piece of cheese, a few thin plaintain slices. It's cooked fresh& quickly. Good coffee. Cash payment required at checkin
- Lorel (10/5): - The family is very welcoming!! And eager to give information and great recommendations!, rooms are clean, breakfast and coffee are yummy and filling, the grounds are gorgeous, does lack adequate AC though, waited til evening to open windows to cool off, Loved the place overall!!
- Alexander (10/5): - This is a wonderful family run place. The property has beautiful plants, it is located near many attractions and the family that runs it makes you feel like part of their family.
- Natesh (10/5): - Nice no frills lodge near miravelles lodge. Excellent host.
- Virginia (10/5): - One of the most beautiful quant bungalows we’ve stayed in Costa Rica. Just book it! Jorge and his lovely family are amazing hosts who helped us with all our needs. Nestled away and intimate with the best of both worlds, close to the beach and nearby activities. We suggest a 4x4 and bring light luggage. Very clean, great hot water, comfy bed, and Fans only in the bedroom because the natural air is cool by the volcano! We were served a delicious breakfast with the opportunity to drink the most delicious organic homegrown coffee, a must try and yup, we bought some! We will definitely return back, leaving all our New York stress behind and grateful for their hospitality.
- Bruce (10/5): - This was a beautiful place for us to go to! Very knowledgeable about the area, what to experience and places to eat! I am so glad we found this gem!
- Deborah (8/5): Good budget option with exceptional breakfast - Great breakfast and wonderful host. Hotels.com offered an option for a king size bed but in fact this hotel only has double beds. I was not happy about that but do not blame the hotel as I think this must be an issue with hotels.com. It was very hot and the portable ac unit worked in limited capacity. It did cool down at night and we slept with windows open.
- Shawn (10/5): - We loved our stay at Parasio Volcano Lodge. What an adorable, peaceful location. George was so wonderful, he welcomed us as we checked in late after a long travel day. He gave us a great recommendation for dinner and provided a map of the area along with details of things to do. In the morning we were serve a wonderful breakfast and the most delicious coffee from the beans harvested only a few feet from where we slept! George then gave a us a personal tour of the land, we learned about the coffee and all of the fruit trees that provided fruit for our breakfast. What a gem of a place to stay. If we are ever in the area again we will stay here
- Jennifer (10/5): - This place was really a paradise, a hidden gem in a beautiful country! I traveled with my two teenage kids and we had an amazing experience here. Jorge already communicated with me before we flew to give us lots of recommendations of fun things to do. He and his wife prepared a delicious breakfast every morning. He roasted coffee from his own property for us to bring home. He also helped us with a rental car. The property is gorgeous and relaxing. There are thermal baths close to the property and some great restaurants. We loved our stay and can’t wait to come back. I would highly recommend this place!
- Sorin (10/5): - Small resort (5 cabins) located on a quiet property. Excellent staff and good traditional breakfast. In the back of the property the owners have their own coffee plantation.
- Alison (10/5): - Our family stayed here for 2 nights in June. The property is easy to find, just off a main road. It's about a 5 minute drive from Miravalles volcano and 30ish minutes to Rincon de la Vieja, and a 10-15 minute drive to hot springs etc.
Jorge and his family were wonderful hosts. They were attentive, responsive and provided us with a useful map of the area with places to visit. Their breakfasts were fresh and delicious. Our kids, who can be picky, ate everything happily and asked for seconds of the plantains. The coffee grown on their farm was so tasty my husband and I both drank it black (normally we put in cream).
Our little cabin was simply furnished and clean, and included a small fridge and a fan. I enjoyed sitting on the little porch in front of the cabin. Breakfast was served in a central covered dining area. We ended up spending a lot of time relaxing there. The property is lovingly cared for and my children thoroughly enjoyed exploring it and playing on it.
We definitely hope to return to stay here in the future and explore the area even more.
- Ashton (8/5): - Great location, minutes away from the montevarlle volcano and good dining. Staff was very warm and welcoming and explained the area well. Only issue was the door was not flush to the ground and so nunerous insect would walk in. Resolved this by stuffing the hole with a towel.
- Juan (10/5): - Muy buena relación precio calidad, muy tranquilo y natural el ambiente. Desayuno delicioso y variado. Mejorar la conexión de internet.
- Nadia (10/5): - The host was amazing! Just at check-in he gave us a map with all the attractions nearby, options to eat, hike, sightseeing and relax!
The room was nice, clean and isolated, so you have as much privacy as needed.
Also, in the property, there's a butterfly house that you can visit.
Oh, and the breakfast.... THE BREAKFAST! It was incredible! You have drinkable options (tea, coffee, chocolate, orange juice) and 2 options to eat (a 'Pinto' or Omelette and bacon).
Great atay
- Sara (10/5): - Great hospitality!
- Julia (10/5): - Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The property owner went over and above expectations. Breakfast was delcious and the property is peaceful and private. They have a butterfly garden that you can tour. Definitely recommend renting a car (restaurants, hot springs and stores are 10-15 minutes away). Hot water in the shower was hit or miss but that was minor. Overall we had a great stay!
- Jim (10/5): - Villas are on a small coffee farm in the countryside a few miles from Guyabo. The owner/host was great. Basic accommodation and great value. No AC, but it wasn't needed. Close to several terminales and magestic Miravalles volcano.
- Kathrine (8/5): - Great little lodges, wonderful breakfast. Jorge was very welcoming and informative.
- Sara (8/5): - Jorge was great host, he gave us a map with some tips of his favorite spots around. The property was very relaxing and green and the breakfast were delicious! Had a great stay !
- Marilyn N (10/5): - If you are a nature, plant and want to relax in a beautiful setting with access to enjoying the rainforest and cloud forest with all it's vegetation and animals , this is the place to stay. We enjoyed the daily breakfast and the best part was the home grown coffee.
- Volodymyr (10/5): - A great place for a quiet and relaxing holiday. The lodge is located in a beautiful location overlooking the volcano. Separately, I want to say about the owner and his family, they are wonderful people who can organize trips to waterfalls, volcanoes, national reserves. I was satisfied with my stay at the lodge and I recommend this place to everyone who is going to Costa Rica.
- Wynn (10/5): - The host was terrific and made sure we knew where and what to do as well as making us feel welcome.
- Marina (10/5): - Nice property with several bungalows. Close to the Volcano Miravalles trail hike, thermal pools and labyrinth. About an hour from Rio Celeste.
- Clint (8/5): - . You are in A beautiful place. The hot springs are awesome. Nice rooms ,food is great.
- Itsanne (8/5): - Convenient lodge, very friendly and assisting owner. Good option if you want to explore the area. Breakfast included (típico) was fresh and well prepared.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The cabins were small and welcoming, just right for our family. The host was very friendly and provided information about local sites and waterfalls to visit. The breakfast included with the stay was a very delicious typical Costa Rican meal. The view from the property was beautiful. A truly enjoyable visit!
- CRAIG (10/5): Buena Vistas - Muy muy amable! Buena vistas! Rico desayuno! Gracias Jorge!
- Verified traveler (10/5): AMABILIDAD DEL PERSONAL - el lugar es pequeño, pero lindo , lo principal es la amabilidad de los propietarios
- Davin (10/5): The perfect getaway! - This is an amazing place! So beautiful and quiet. It was the perfect place for my husband and I. The owners went out of their way to ensure everthing was satisfactory. Each morning we would have breakfast in an open area. The owners would put out watermelon for the birds which allowed us to see a Toucan and several other native birds. A great way to start your day!! I would highly recommend Paraiso Volcano Lodge. We will be back!
- Mark (10/5): - The property was well maintained and very beautiful. You will see many birds, lizards, and squirrels. The plants and flowers are awesome!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice affordable place - I would stay again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The area where this place is located is so paceful and calm, beautiful and clean. Thanks Jorge and Magda
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Amazing place to stay with very large clean rooms. There is no A/C, or screens on the windows but each room has a fan. Jorge and his staff are very accommodating and we're helpful in planning our hikes and soaks in the many local hot springs. Very reasonable rates. Rooms were cleaned each day and had a refrigerator.
The included breakfast was good with the option for either a traditional Costa Rican breakfast or a continental breakfast with ham, eggs, and toast. Each breakfast came with hot coffee, delicious juice and a fruit plate.
They have an on-site restaurant with multiple home cooked options for dinner. A few other locale restaurants are also available in Guayabo a short drive away.
Excellently located for trips to the Miravalles and Ricon de la Vieja volcanos
- serguei (10/5): Separate cabins for your privacy and rest. - That. Is very good maintained garden with cabins. Very easy to find. Good rest after hikes.
- David (8/5): Nice quiet stopping place - This is a great stop with enough elevation to cool down at night for great sleeping. Food was great, grounds were well kept up and Jorge was a very nice host. I didn't see any camping areas as I expected from the name.
- Corrie OConnor (10/5): Amazing and tranquil - Absolute best stay I've booked from hotels.com. The owner of the property hector was so friendly and accommodating. I felt very cared for and welcomed. Beautiful property and surrounding area. Very close to zip lines and rincon de la vieja. The restaurant had wonderful food and a delicious complimentary breakfast. So grateful to have stayed here!!!
- KOZY (10/5): - Great family run 'camping' place, with cozy, clean, well located 'cabanas' type accommodations... Jorge went above and beyond to make everything great... Pura Vida
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a nice surprise more value than we ever expected. We stayed in a cabin. A set of such cabins is apparently owned by a family.
In the cenetr is a restaurant that is a common room.
All were very friendly to us- cannot appreciate their service more.
Beware- it is a simple and friendly stay.
It worked perfect for us- even after a luxurous Arenal lodge the night before.
This being said, if you are not ready for a simple cabin stay you might not share our attitude.
The place was not crowded at all - only better for us, we came here to enjoy the tropical nature.
For a full disclosure:
Internet via their WIFI might be very slow sometimes.
There are a lot of birds and animals around and some of them can try to get into the cabin.
We enjoyed the nature and we liked observing the birds- so decide for yourself.
Nearby there is a nice hot spring (we visited the farthest from the road and we liked it so much that nobody wanted to leave until complete dark). The hotel host would indicate all of the hot spring and attractions around, but we only tried one hot spring and the national park. We had no time to try many other attractions.
There are a at least two volcanoes not very far away and the national park.
We had time for one only. Maybe we'll be there again of al the stars align- we would like to, but our vacation time is very limited.
- Eric (10/5): Awesome place!! - Amazing place with attentive staff.. from the second we checked in to when we left, we felt at home!
- Deborah (10/5): - My sister and I spent one night here and the host could not have been more gracious and helpful! The breakfast that was included was so delicious! We went to one of the hot springs in the area and spent a few hours relaxing. It was so nice,
- Elanor (8/5): Good vale and friendly owner and family - Good value for money compared to other places (52 usd for a family of 3) and good service and friendly atmosphere. Free drink on arrival and good breakfast and helpful advice about what to do nearby. Beds pretty hard which may not suit some
- Dana (10/5): Quiet, beautiful grounds and lovely hosts - We really enjoyed our stay at Paraiso Camping Lodge, which is more like a bed and breakfast with separate cabins on beautifully landscaped grounds. It was very quiet and private; there are 3 fairly new cabins with typical Costa Rican furnishings, each with two queen size beds and a large bathroom, very clean. The small restaurant is next to the cabins. Jorge and Magda are very gracious and accommodating hosts. Jorge is very personable and informative and Magda runs the kitchen and is a great cook. Breakfast is made to order and we also had two dinners and a lunch in their restaurant.
The area is abundant in hot springs and, although we didn't go, there is a canopy tour very close by. The lodge is in a serene and lovely setting at the base of the Miravalles volcano. It is a 45 minute drive to Rincon de la Vieja National Park and a 90 minute drive to Tenorio National Park with the amazingly blue Rio Celeste. The 90 minute drive is through a beautiful rural area.
- Mary (6/5): We weren't there long enough to judge much, but . - We arrived very late one night and left early the next morning. The host couple was very welcoming, made us hot drinks (it was raining when we arrived), and breakfast was adequate to fuel us through the morning. The hot cocoa must have been completely home-made because it was super delicious! The room had a slightly musty smell, but nothing that seemed dirty or otherwise unpleasant. We saw the lush surroundings the next morning, and they were beautiful (not unusual for Costa Rica). I would not choose to stay there for the "ambience" or for a long period of time, but it was fine for our needs.
