Guest Reviews
- John Kervin (2/5): Untidy and dirty - The room is kept untidy. Mirror with stains and bathroom door are full of dust. There’s no shampoo and soap provided.
- jimaef (2/5): BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. POOR ATMOSPHERE of Hospitality. - Not the best choice to do a simple staycation to relax when the service is just giving you stress.
We checked in at 3pm but upon checking in, your Front Desk Clerks are not even smiling or even acknowledging your presence as guests by making eye contact. Their auras are too busy when there are only 2 of us in the check in counter. It’s not giving a welcoming atmosphere. Giving my benefit of the doubt that it is indeed busy, but the way they treat their guests was consistent even upon checking out.
No quality personal touch to make an atmosphere to be hospitable despite that a hotel is part of the hospitality industry.
When the keycard was given, no orientation or any touch of informing us about breakfast or even how to reach them incase we need assistance.
Upon entering the room, it was fine for us to be placed to tower assuming that there is a phone to reach the front desk. Since it is a staycation, we prefer not to leave the room and just rest. Again assuming that there is an access to reach the front desk and room service given that there is a menu at the room, unfortunately the Phone does not work. It was but a display. No dial tone. So that means, I have to walk far to the restaurant to order food.
At the restaurant, I initially told already the waiter that it’s for take out giving them information that we were checked in. Complaining that we thought there is room service. Given that info, the staff dis not even bother to give me an option that they can do room service. Doing the transaction for take out and paid my meals, i saw a waiter carrying a room service type of food. So I approached the counter telling, can my orders be turned to room service so i can go back to the room and just wait there.
Too much alibis etc, i gave up. They did not bother looking into the comfort of their guests. Talk about service!
When my order came, i requested if there can be disposable spoon and fork and plate, given again WE WERE CHECK IN Guests. Still to no avail! I had to buy one myself outside the premises.
The next morning, i saw how lousy your staffs are even during breakfast service. Despite that there are 3-4 waiters, they were just standing not even bothered to check if the buffet, the coffee or fruits are still available. Do they have to wait if the meals are empty before refilling it? The waiters and staff are just chitchatting. Imagine, their only concern is to check if everything is still good at the buffet and clean up tables for new guests, only one was concern to do that the one with eyeglasses, the rest, auras are not welcoming, lazy, and unwelcoming.
The hotel has been one of the go to in zamboanga, but the service is leading to its downfall. The reason I am giving my review this way because I am too a person from the hospitality industry.
Sadly this is the kind of service we offer. Nakakahiya pong magdala ng bisita sa ganitong serbisyo.
We have been travelling a lot and the service of astoria is like an inn. Sad reality, a lot of Inns are better in service and customer care!
Never again a choice for stay.
- NONA (10/5): - close to downtown
- Edward James (6/5): - Staff was okay, though.
- Lance (6/5): No sleep until 5am - Don't get any rooms next to a wedding group. I had too bang on their door at 3am because I couldn't sleep. They thought it was their right too keep everyone else awake. Hotel staff did nothing except told me it was a wedding party. Explains why NONE of their parents wanted the room next too them.
- Jason Scott (8/5): - Love the ambiance 👏
- Lance (10/5): - Fix the elevator in Tower 2. It closes very fast , I don't think the safety work's on the doors. I complained about it in 2019 and 2022 and it's still the same in 2024
- Vacation61863121202 (2/5): Filthy hellhole - Don't be misled by the fancy name. This is a terrible rundown city hotel.
1. Bed is small with very thin sheets. They only provide ONE pillow per guest. An extra charge per day applies if you request for an additional pillow.
2. Hallways are always dirty and wet.
3. FOOD is HORRIBLE. I can just imagine, this is what prison food is like.
4. Restaurant seating is very limited. You are left with no choice but to share table with several strangers when it is packed.
5. Room walls are thin. You can practically hear the other occupant's private business through the thin wall.
6. They charge for everything. You need a hair dryer? There's a charge for it on an hourly basis.
7. Cleanliness and hygiene is non-existent. Check under the bed, this has never been cleaned.
8. Room phone does not work. See photos.
9. Even TV screen is broken. See photos.
If you have option, better to stay at another hotel in the city. Avoid this like plague.
- Maria Elena (10/5): - i would refer to my relatives and friends to stay there
- Edlouie (6/5): - The place looks run down. Needs fresh paint. Pillows are flat. Bedsheet and towels are old and frayed. No iron. No cable. Breakfast is always late. Not worth the price I paid.
- Annalyn (4/5): - Not for people with disabilities
- PepeLab (6/5): Good experience - The best thing about the hotel was its staff. Easy to work with.
Breakfast buffet? Filipino food. Two to three options.
Near the mall but not that near to the souvenir place.
Downside? Internet connection is bad. You cannot even connect from your room; you need to ho to lobby or common areas.
When we were there, a construction was ongoing. So that might explain the loud noises or busy lobby of the hotel.
- FELIPE III (6/5): Hmmmm - Just about okay. Nothing spectacular. Just also don't ask for extra pillows as they will charge you for them
- Bruce (4/5): - Elevator is broken
- Divina Grace (8/5): - Convenient
- d0ctrine (6/5): Conveniently located hotel - The hotel is conveniently located along Jaldon Street in Zamboanga City. You can easily go to places like the airport, shopping malls (KCC Mall, SM Mindpro), the barter trade at Canelar, and City Hall. You can actually walk from the hotel to City Hall or perhaps the Gov. Lim Boulevard. The hotel can be very crowded as it is a popular venue for many events including parties and seminars. The rooms are okay considering the pricing. The linen and towels are old so I hope the hotel acquires new linen and towels even for the lower priced rooms. Our rooms didn't have windows so it's difficult to tell whether the weather outside is fine. The TV works but has limited channels. The breakfast buffet is average but sufficient. The staff are helpful but sometimes appear to be overwhelmed as they attend to many people.
- Jaime_Sydney (10/5): Nice stay - It was a wonderful stay in this hotel. The good points: 1. Friendly staff, 2. A secure and safe place, 3. Clean, 4. The aircon works very well, 5 Centrally located, 6. Excellent value. 7. Good onsite restaurant.
Bad points: Breakfast supply does not seem to be replenished after 8:00am
Tips: Go for your breakfast early.
Would I stay at this place again if I visit the city again? Absolutely!
- Francisco (8/5): - When there is a convention. The management should prepare the facilities like elevator, operating...
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Not so good. I think just because I booked through Hotels.com, they gave me a second floor room next to the street. It was very noisy early in the morning. The room also smelled of dank and sewage that has not been cleaned in a long time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room was nice, it was spacious and had a lot of furniture. Location of the hotel was also near the mall and a lot of public transportation is available just outside the hotel. Only issue I encountered was the breakfast was not delivered the following days.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was near the town but the rooms are not sound proof. I checked in for an important online seminar but I was hearing the television of the room on top and the hallway sounds of children shouting and people talking are also heard
- confusej (6/5): Ok for Price! - not that recommendable as rooms are not that clean however food is still acceptable. Worth to try once as the location is not bad, but I think there are other hotels that can give better service.
I think there's a lot om improvement needed in this hotel. Thus, we still enjoyed our stay.
- iaminnocent (4/5): Expect the Unexpected - Been reading some not so good comment on this hotel, but still giving it a try as most hotel are full that time.
The side of hotel has a new extension under construction.
During check in, I was given a small room, this is comparing the same amount paid in the same period of time but in a different hotel, I happen to have a friend who are staying in EverO. My room was incomparable with him.
Not much of comment on the breakfast, not liking it as many people are like snatching food from the buffet, which i can only take what's leftover. LOL
I did not expect much from the breakfast though but my colleague was eating rice with egg alone as there are no other options.
The room is indeed dusty, floor are sticky, and without complimentary water in the room but they gave you two glass. There's a TV mounted on the ceiling without remote control.
The bathroom is with general toiletries like soap, toothbrush and shampoo which I only use the toothbrush set. Show was the best experience as the water does not go straight to you, pressure was low. The next day after room cleaning, they put two tiny bar of soap on my bed, it is unwrapped, is it really this cost savings?
I am paying P2000.00 plus a night for this room.
I thought I was biased until i saw my client who are staying in the same hotel and with the same comment, we both laugh. hahahaha...!!
There are better.
Staff are helpful, at least some are.
Forgot the lift, hahaha... i see people walking down from 8th floor convention.
- Jon (8/5): Has basic gaps but makes effort to be responsive - No hotel is really perfect. Thus, what is equally important is how the hotel appropriately rectifies or makes up for the gaps and deficiencies to make guests as comfortable as possible. Astoria Zamboanga is such hotel. I found the cleanliness and overall condition of my room very poor. Initially, the room was tidied up upon my request. But the staff did not stop there; they transferred me to another room, which was not only better maintained but also was bigger and of better overall condition.
- Jessica (2/5): - The room is so smelly
The towels are dirty
Everything is worst
- Jo (4/5): - Not so nice
- AndreasTheSwede (4/5): Try to avoid the rooms - There are two hotels named Astoria in Zamboanga, try to avoid this one. Rooms are dirty and worn, we lost power several times in our room and the management was not helpful.
Kudos to the friendly and helpful staff at the hotel, also prices are very good in the restaurant.
- Alfe (10/5): - Comfortable because of good hotel service.
- aquilalegis (6/5): A good hotel for the price! - The location of the Hotel must have been the central area in the past, as it is very accessible to transportation and a walking distance to and from the central market and good restaurants. For the price that we paid, We can not complain, except for food for breakfast, which was so limited.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff are courteous...very clean place
- Verified traveler (6/5): Value for money - ok for the price
- jeromedeiparine (10/5): Enjoyable Stay - The place is good. Have a free breakfast. Though the remote for the TV is not functioning yet it was an enjoyable stay. I did have one trouble though I have a low network signal in my room and the hotel wifi is not functional during my stay.
- Xander (6/5): - Its great that the hotel is in the city. The staff are friendly and no problem. But the facilities may need improvement. The elevator is too slow and needs upgrade, its not yet full with people but its already alerting with overloaded. The water in the dispenser in the hallways is not cold. They may also need to improve breakfast.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - NONE very dirty place to stay. Its not nice when you traveling and you need to stay this kind of hotel
- Captain747 (2/5): - There was no hot water. No mobile phone signal, and the wifi was extremely weak. There are bed bugs. the sheets gave me a rash and itchy. Terrible hotel. Will not be booking this establishment again. I would give it less than a star.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Need to improve their facilities
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The breakfast are not really good and the table don’t have any tissue. Some of the table are dirty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Wifi is OK on the 6th floor only!Me and my sis-in-law felt harassed by the housekeeping guy on the 6th floor because he’s holding his private parts everytime he saw us!!The room boy, staff serving breakfast and the front desk staff were friendly and accommodating except for the lady guard who’s not courteous in greeting guests coming in..there’s cockroaches on our room on the third floor(because we changed room on our second booking) and it was so disappointing...but over all stay is OK.
Thank u!!!
- Bemraie (10/5): - Everything was excellent . i will recommend it to all my friends.
Thank you
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice location...Very clean hotel
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Bed was clean. Air conditioning worked. But no hot water in shower. And the complimentary breakfast was only rice , egg, bread, and fish heads. But most importantly to mention as well is the water they served at breakfast was tap.. and no warning. I got sick as a result. The only other option for liquid was coffee. Asking for a slice of cheese cake for dessert meant talking to 4 staff members at the same time. Asking for water was a bit of a chore for them for whatever snarky reason. This hotel is not meant for foreigners. Locals may like it? Im not sure?
- steve679111 (2/5): Terrible - Old dilapidated rooms breakfast pathetic front desk completely useless worst hotel in Zamboanga wouldn't give me deposit back for safety box unless I gave them receipt front desk need retraining to help not hinder customers I asked to see manager completely ignored my request I've been coming to Zamboanga for 25 years I would never stay at this hotel again
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The problem of weddings held and birthday in the sixth floor and people staying in the hotel inconvenience People staying at the hotel mean the birthday of wedding weddings.

- denregis (6/5): A bit old hotel but with good location.. - the hotel is a bit old but management is trying to improve its looks as evidenced by the ongoing renovations...my room is clean, with simple mattress and linens..the aircon is good...there is no coffee facilities and drinking water on the first day but upon request, they provided these items on the next day..water dispenser is found in the hallway for everyone.. be ready to hear noise coming from the next room or from guests walking in the hallway. room needs repainting to look better. public areas need thorough cleaning and repainting as well..staff are courteous..this hotel is very near downtown area and the famous barter trade center..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The elevator is crazy..it will close even you’re not yet totally in. I almost get hurt.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Think Twice - We had to check-in at 9 am because our bus arrived earlier than planned. The receptionist said that there was no available standard room because no one checked out yet. He pitched for an upgrade to a deluxe room if I want to be able to check-in right away, and I had to pay extra Php 800.00. I paid and checked in. The room was not the cleanest. The headboard was dirty, there was no foot mat in the bathroom, and the furnitures and sanitary fittings were old. I made a complaint and spoke with the manager. Unfortunately I had to leave for a meeting so I told her that we’ll settle the issues when I get back. When I got back around 5pm I asked if I can be transferred to a different room. The receptionist was quick to say yes and offered to refund the php 800.00 that I initially added for the upgrade. The nee room that I was given was cleaner and had a bigger bathroom. In a nutshell, the experience was not the most convenient and comfortable. However, I am thankful to the staff who helped resolve the issues and proactively offered to refund the extra payment.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Keep up the good job
- Oscar (2/5): - bathroom is very dirty! smelly!
- Herfe (8/5): - I only had a comment for the breakfast food. Might as well serve as platter and ask for u’r guest food preference than having a buffet w/c had no choice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - the room and service
- Verified traveler (10/5): - accessibility/please have better food choices.
- d0ctrine (6/5): Good location and rates but still very crowded - We were back in Zamboanga for a brief stay for a workshop. My colleague booked us at Astoria again as it was a good location and fit our budget. It was still very crowded and somewhat chaotic but less than the last time we stayed here. This time though, we were upgraded to better rooms (we purchased through Expedia) as the double rooms we reserved were already taken by the time we checked in. Still, this didn't bring them to VG in my rating.
Their in-room internet still sucked and the food for breakfast was still so-so. If it weren't included in our rooms' fees, we could have easily ate elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good customer service and clean room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - price and location
- Darren (6/5): - Everything works, but the hotel is showing its age and needs updating.
- jewelrosel (2/5): WORST HOTEL IVE EVER BEEN! - Since it has no ratings/reviews buttons on their page, i would like to share this review for others’ awareness of the hotel services. I rate this hotel in 1 star only. I checked in last August 2 and extend my stay on the next day August 3,2018. I asked them to change sheets, bring new towels and toothbrushes but the receptionist told me they can only change/bring new sheets and towels except toothbrushes— reason why? Because they already gave us on the day 1 of our checked in and they not going to give us the new one. I told them the toothbrush is disposable so we threw it away after we used it and its the same thing if we check out and check in on the same day they going to change/give us the new ones. They didnt gave us the new passwords of the wifi if we didnt asked too. And also the parking area for guests needs to be validated from the front desk, if you lost the parking ticket you are entitled to pay Php10/hour for the whole period of stay in the hotel. Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED especially for the travellers like me who wants to have a comfortable place to stay in Zamboanga City. Services is not good, clogged sinks, dirty carpets, smelly toilets, so UNTIDY ROOM and do not follow hotel standard management for guests. THE GRAND ASTORIA IN ZAMBOANGA CITY IS THE WORST HOTEL I'VE EVER BEEN!
- Jamal (10/5): - Perfect, clean, and the staff is friendly
- POtiEL (6/5): Good location, reasonable rates. - Free shuttle from the airport to the hotel and vice versa. Friendly front desk staff. Hotel is located in the city center. Our room was clean and comfortable. Complimentary breakfast selection was so-so, but room rates are reasonable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - People friendly pillows flat hotel not so good.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room over all is not to required to expedia in the picture nice when u cek in out
- Travel (6/5): - My room is clean. Hallways and lobby is too noisy. I would say that the poorest part of my are the staff. No greetings, no smile, no proper assistance. Food is salty and cold.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - unfinished contraction of some parts
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good place to stay
- Jovy (8/5): Zamboanga - Pleasant staff at check in.
Ideally located.
Very clean room and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I don’t expect they have free breakfast this is so good. Overall rating is 5 for being highest. Staff and ambiance room. Clean nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - i like the location, convenience of public transport.friedly staff ,security is awesome
- Jon (8/5): Good value for money but needs better maintenance - The hotel rooms are good value for money; been going back to stay here. Great location as well - not too far from the airport and within the city's main commercial area. The beds were comfortable, EXCEPT for the pillows which are old and really thin. I asked for thicker ones, and they gave me 2 pillows jammed into 1 pillowcase. The hallways were also dirty, and water from the sink faucet tasted bad (even for toothbrushing). The breakfast buffet can be better - that is, be more breakfast in fare rather than a chinese lunch.
- britz (4/5): - TELL YOU STAFF TO BE QUIET ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT!!!!!
- Anne (10/5): - Super nice hotel to stay in zamboanga
- Verified traveler (8/5): Adequate - Pros: Centralized location. Close to airport and KCC Mall. Convenient restaurant in the lobby. Good shower water pressure and warm water. Refrigerator in the room.
Cons: Roaches in the room. Hard pillows.
- Anonymous (2/5): - The place is old which is okay but it is dirty. Roaches roam around the room and hallway. Sink is clogged
- Opip (8/5): - Nice hotel close to the city center.
- skylayas (6/5): Good place but... - Stayed at Grand Asturia via Trivago, last Nov 23 to 25, 2018, location is geat, but ...
Food 3 stars, Food prep is not that good.
Ambience 4 stars for hotel
Lobby
Room accommodation 3 stars with small cockroach
Roaming around your bed, aircon too noisy.
Staff 3.5 ...
OJT staff, 4.5 stars, they are very courteous, and very helpful.
Security guard we're all helpful.
Our stay in Mindanao is very memorable bec we were able to visit Pink Beach Resort. The tourism in Mindanao is good. They are all very courteous and accommodating.
- theAJuan (2/5): Poor Astoria - Stayed here for 2 nights. Room comes with breakfast and transportation(airport to hotel). Did not know this until we approach the reception desk for check-in though. Since we were not able to take the transportation from airport to the hotel as we were not informed upon making the booking, we tried to request with the receptionist if we could get a car to the airport upon departure in lieu of the airport-to-the-hotel transfer. We even mentioned that we won't be taking breakfast on our last day since our departure is early in the morning (0400AM) just so if they would consider our request. We spoke with a few of the front desk associates to arrange just a simple request and made follow up's everytime we come across the front desk, but to our dismay, got denied.
Water pressure in the shower and toilet is so low. We've called several times to raise the concern but no one showed up to attend to our need.
Overall, they could not show even a slight of flexibility and lacks empathy and interest in their guests. We have traveled from up north down the Asia's Latin City expecting a grandiose experience but fell short because of our experience in this hotel. Everything else is great in Zamboanga, especially pink sand beach in Sta Cruz, pasonanca area, fort pilar, canelar barter trade and paseo area. We had a great time spending our days and nights in their famous restaurants and bars like Jimmy's Sati (great sati for breakfast), Dennis (coffee and light snacks), Distrito & Harley's (drinks), Knicker Bocker (luscious dessert) and my personal favorite is Bay Tal Mal Restaurant (Authentic tausug delicacies. Great for guests and tourists. Cozy ambience, Friendly staffs). Canelar Barter trade is a great place to buy local goods, from clothing to some stuffs (like chocolates, sweets, noodles & coffee) imported from Malaysia and Indonesia.
- melovesummer (10/5): Best hotel in Zamboanga - This hotel is amazing. Clean, looks new, affordable, and accessible. The hotels also have a restaurant inside. Just a tip. I suggest you book at the hotel or reserve by calling them. I book online at hotels.com and ended up paying P1325.30 per night when their single type room with a twin bed is just P1100 per night. Anyway this hotel is a good choice.
- Ai (6/5): - Free breakfast but the food is not good only rice and boiled egg, the hotel staff especially at the frontdesk is not approachable, they have free one way airport pick up but they didnt pick us at the airport and if you ask them to send you to the airport you have to pay 200 pesos..
- Helen (8/5): - Nice hotel
- Andrea (8/5): - Very nice. Good at everything
- Jeff (10/5): - I had a great stay, will recommend to anyone that will stay in Zamboanga City.
- Fred (8/5): - I have staying in this hotel before it was New Astoria my first time when it was renamed Grand and it speaks for itself
- SariLynn12 (4/5): Nice location Poor facilities - Been here thrice ( July, Aug and Sept ). This has been our to go accommodation whenever in Zamboanga due to it's nice central location . Though most of the staffs I encountered are accommodating and helpful sadly the hotel facilities are poor.
1. Smelly water and low water pressure
2. Old room fixtures and furnitures
3. Broken and rusty windows ( during our stay there was a heavy rain the window kept opening due to heavy winds. I tried to ask for assistance but they just told me that it wont get fix. So for the whole duration of our stay it was open and only cover by curtain. Even the restroom window is broken which is not safe)
4. Poor breakfast
5. unstable wifi connection
- Mark (8/5): Family visit - Nice hotel thanks
- Ma. (8/5): - The room is clean and big.
- Jaime (4/5): - Astoria Hotel never gave me a senior citizen Discount and a Free Breakfast which was given to all checked in patrons.
- Felma (10/5): Location is great! - The staff are nice and accomodating. The location is near to all establishments. Breakfast is ok. Love the arrozcaldo.
Will recommend this hotel to all.
- Verified traveler (8/5): very accessible - i love staying staying here coz its very accessible, near downtown, near the big mall, its in the heart of the city. spacious, room is clean, services is good. thumbs up guys!!!!
- Albert Joseph (2/5): At grand astoria not a good experience.photos blow - Not so good im not satisfied with my 3day stay..
- marvin (6/5): Wifi sucked - The front desk was not that friendly and not enough room for every one to sit and wait for 2pm check in. Room was clean but the wifi sucked
- Deano (8/5): Nice hotel in the centre of town - I had a single room in the new tower, great room but air conditioning and fridge a bit noisy, but I rented a couple of extra pillows as you only get one, room service is OK, but no food after ten pm,
Which is the restaurant closing time downstairs,
The restaurant is good and cheap, the staff are very friendly and helpful, I would give the astoria a
Good 3.5 out of 5, excellent value for money!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ok - It was fine. The location is very accessible.
- Nick (6/5): Good hotel, located downtown - The room was quiet and cold, perfect for the hot summer in zamboanga that I spent. The staff are mostly courteous and attentive, with a few exceptions. The room service food was OK, delivered relatively fast, just don't expect chef-prepared meals. The free internet was good enough, it worked for an hour or so, then I kinda had to turn Wi-Fi off to relog to the network. But the speed was good enough for browsing, whether in the lobby or in my room. The room cleanliness was sketchy, there was mold on the upper walls, the bathroom tile grout was dirty in places, but the bed was perfectly made every day, new sheets and blankets. Do expect to pay extra for a second pillow if you get the single room. I looked forward to resting in my room every day I was in zamboanga, so that's saying something for Grand Astoria. :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Accessable - We were able to check in ahead of hotel checked in time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was quite nice. Newly renovated as I stayed at the tower 2. However the bathroom was very dirty. There were a lot of dirt on the floor which looks like molds. Aside from that, everything was fine.
- Damian (6/5): You get what you pay for - This is the second time have stayed here and again had the same issue with the Wifi not working.
The bathroom mirror was dirty again. I think they need to get there Wifi replaced.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay - It was great. Had a nice stay with this hotel. Really recommended..
