Guest Reviews
- rickcardoc (2/5): Ripped off not honest - Don't stay here people people not honest ruined my family's vacation took our money for prepaid 2 week stay,, They won't work with the Travel Agents, they just keep the money and no room, wished I read the reviews before, many bad experiences
- Dream15513510312 (2/5): SCAMED - Scamed by owner not honest. Knew Travel agents were calling to change date on my stay. I prepaid 550. For 28 Days , he would not work with me on arivel dates when i was finely able to reach him, he was very rude on phone. I stayed in area were Host were very nice and helpful not this person
- porc2023 (10/5): Kindness - The room is very clean and nice… a big space, and a great experience! Hotel is very close to the supermarket and convenience stores, bus stations etc. employees are kindness and respect of the service. The best experience I ever had of the hotel in Phnom Penh Cambodia…
- b0ng0e (10/5): What a nice little hotel - The rooms are comfortable. What I want in a hotel is a comfortable bed, clean, good shower, and cold A/C. The Mou delivered on all items. The bonus is they have a wonderful staff from the front desk, security, and the cleaning gals. I have to mention one staff member by name, Mr. Piseth from the front desk who is very helpful with directions, where to eat, and is the go to problem solver.
I had a problem with the first room and with in minutes he moved me to another with no fuss. I will defiantly stay here again when in Phnom Penh.
- rachelgR153XN (8/5): No frills but good location and friendly helpful staff. They let us leave our bags at reception for the day. - We found this place in an excellent part of the city which wasn’t touristy. The room was pretty basic but spacious. The staff were very helpful. Thank you. We were able to leave our bags there for the day and get drinks from fridge and pay later. Life saving after a big night out!!
- H9773WSmarkd (10/5): Excellent value for money - Friendly staff very clean hotel very reasonable room rate no frills but well looked after in a good location easy distance to attractions toul sleng trips can be booked for killing fields and tours bike hire available if brave enough to cycle in Phnom Penh but away from the bustle of riverside Asian food good European food basic but Eatable
- Hellouhno (2/5): The worst thing that sums up the city Phnom penh - I not only got harassed EVERYDAY at about 5am from someone at the front desk calling from day 1 (and I stayed no less than 10 days at this hotel) asking if I was going to check out, to being screamed at because I offered my debit card to be charged but because one of the staffs was disturbingly slow- he basically held my card hostage and told me to pay in cash (Help this make sense when you have my debit card). I literally saw a kitchen staff on the first floor empty a bottle of minute maid 'orange juice' into a cup, cover the cup and took it up to a guest. So they buy juices for 2 riehl I suppose, charge guests, three or four dollars and keep the change. Let's not get started on the noodle soup I ordered that ended up being ramen noodles (like I can tell the difference between ramen and plain ol' noodles') and they charged about $5.00 for it. Please this hot mess of a place doesn't deserve your money nor time. Absolute disgusting from the owner to the floors in the bathroom.
- 565vannake (6/5): I love to give more then three star to hotel - This is a good mid range budget hotel that you are looking for once your planing to see phnom penh, cambodia,
location: It was located to center of the city close to every main part of phnom penh.
Room : The room was really good but the door case broken out, Air-conditioning working well, room floor clean.
Staff: People in the hotel some of them are so good to talk to, but I think few of them was impolitely, especially the maid I was met on the first day.
Yeah totally fine hotel, I realized my booking with Welcome drink serve but it was not.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is a bit run-down. But it is a good value for the money. Very nice staff
- marioJkt25 (6/5): Decent hotel compared to what I pay - Not a fancy hotel but quite proper. Big room with twin bedding which each of it on queen size bed. So yes, it can occupy up to 4 adults. The bedding was hard, so be used by that. There room was clean, the air con works, the hot water running well, there's also fridge and water boiler. TV works well with several channels. Location is 15 minutes walk from Central Market, and around 1-2 USD with TukTuk to everywhere. It also near the Central Bus Operator which cheaper if you wanna made a journey to Siem Reap, VN, or Bangkok by direct booking. But this hotel needs to improve their elevator, which something scary for me to be honest. The view from top floor of this hotel was amazing. Overall, the price I paid was decent to what I got.
- zenitya (2/5): Never stay here! - Don’t believe pictures. It’s worse in 10 times in reality.
Super dirty bed cause it’s a hotel for sex.
Cockroaches. Rooms smelly with smoke. Weak internet. Elevator not working. All space smell awful. Towels so old that you can’t use them.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It’s okay for a night or two to stay. Some decent coffee shops, restaurants and a convenient store nearby. My room was fine, except for the closet was very dusty and the shower area in the bathroom have no door. So water splashed everywhere when I showered.
- Lisa-MarieH (2/5): Do not stay here - I just returned from 10 days at this nightmare of a hotel. It is infested with cockroaches, mold and the ceiling had fist sized holes in it. The pictures on their website are old and this hotel is definitely not “brand new.”The elevator and air conditioning only worked half of the time. We had 6 rooms and they were all saturated with cigarette smoke. The staff is terrified of the owner. She is an old woman who apparently hates customers. We were treated so poorly that I am still in disbelief. She overcharged us on our final night and completely ignored and interrupted me when I attempted to speak with her. We spent over $2k at this hotel over 10 days and you would have never known it with the way we were treated. There are hundreds of places to stay in Phnom Penh, do yourself a favor and stay anywhere but here.
- kawaiip2017 (6/5): Nice Place Good Value - My friends and I decided to choose this hotel because this place is near by the market and the bus station. This hotel is a good place and friendly staffs. I booked a tuk tuk from this hotel for a half day trip and the price was really good. So if you have questions about trips in Phnom Penh, I suggest you contact the receptionist directly. The room is quite big and very clean. The highlight of The Mou is the rooftop bar, although not very large but the price of food and drinks is reasonable. Just one for this hotel must change in TOWELS, yes a towels in room, because they were very old and very very rough. However, totally for this Hotel is worth a price.
- 30DavidG (8/5): Ideal for short stay - We only stayed here for one night and for that it was perfect. For €20 we had a good sized twin room with good facilities. We arrived 3 hours before the 14h check in time but were still shown directly to our room and given free reception drinks.
The wifi was very good here also
- Josh (8/5): - Nice spot good food was upgraded due to a problem with aircon
- Emma (8/5): Asia trip - They place and service is good. It was decently clean. Close to all the local street food and foodie area.
- Marie (4/5): - Unfortunately there is nothing positive about this hotel besides the super friendly staff.
- MarjorieP190 (4/5): Very friendly staff.. - I would like to write a positive review for this hotel but besides the super friendly staff there is unfortunately nothing else that is positive about this hotel. I will have to say that the way it is presented is misleading, the photos online have been embellished to the max.
- MatildaM49 (6/5): Disappointing - If you paid for this hotel for a few days in Phnom Penh, you’d be disappointed. It was fine for one night, as a bed to stay in and a shower.
But in terms of cleanliness, there was a banana skin in our wardrobe which shows someone hadn’t done a thorough clean, as well as dirty plates and glasses in the hallway which weren’t cleaned away for duration of our stay. The air conditioning was not great. We were on the 8th floor and I think the elevator was faulty because it took AGES to arrive, and 8 floors was a long way to walk up to the top. I think having 2 elevators would be a good addition for this hotel. There was a mix up about whether our room included breakfast (which it did) which was frustrating but easily solved.
The location was good for the Russian Market but literally nothing else. Overall, I’m glad we only stayed for a night.
- KR (4/5): - First room we are given smelled of cigarettes even though signs says no smoking. Second room was not cleaned at all. The floor was dirty, the bath towels were dirty, the fridge was broken and the bed was dirty. Housekeeping didn't change the bed from previous guest at all even though you can clearly see it's dirty. They just remade the bed then skipped everything else. There are only bath towels given - no hand towels or anything. Toilet paper holder is broken and hotel didn't bother fixing it. Toilet paper given were 1/4 of the roll for a 3 night stay. Elevator takes forever, therefore, had to use stairs (not bad going down 6 flights but hard in the heat going back up). Guests are allowed to smoke in the hallways next to the stairs and elevator right next to the "no smoking" sign. When I spoke to the staff about the smoking, their only answer is "they're Chinese and won't listen". Not worth the price at all and no idea how they got good ratings.
- 154yuvalp (10/5): Amazing place!!! - I highly recommend this place ! Staying here was amazing! So much better than my expectations. The room is huge and very clean. The staff were so nice and helpful and the host did everything in order to please us. We got free bicycles and it was very convenient to visit all of the places around easily. Sure I will come back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Received smiling face from staffs and Comfortable room
- sothys2017 (2/5): Poor service and dirty hotel - Certainly one of the cheapest hotels in the city center. The hotel room is fine, but it is very dirty once you step outside the room. The elevator is never clean during my week-long stay. I asked the front desk receptionists twice just to clean up the room, but they never come to clean up until 3pm or 4pm. It will be my first time staying in this hotel, and it is definitely my last time. If you are short of budget, don't mind dirty place, then this is the place for you.
- Verified traveler (8/5): All good - Nice hotel, professional service and safe environment.
- Peter (10/5): - Nice ,clean,friendly staff.slightly out of the way from
Popular activities eg. $2 tuk tuk to riverside .Price is reasonable .😊
- 356lucash (8/5): Good and friendly staff - Even The Mou Hotel is not located the tourist hot spot like riverside but the place is quite and the staff really helpful and friendly. The room always keep clean and the staff help me replace the broken chair after i was informed them. The food at hotel kitchen was delicious and price is acceptable compare outside food.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not one of the better hotels - Some of the staff are nice, others quite rude. Will not return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was easy to go anywhere and the room was great.
- Brendan0C (2/5): Hotel is nice, staff were not - We booked a room for a night on agoda with breakfast included, then right after arriving we asked if we could extend for one night. The staff asked if we would pay online or in person, so we asked if everything would be the same or if there were differences in the rate, and we were told it would be exactly the same as if we used Agoda.
When it came to the end of our stay, we were told that Agoda had made a mistake and breakfast shouldn't have been included, so our bill was almost double what was expected. We were being asked to pay extra for our first night already paid in full online, and more for our second night that the reception staff had said would be exactly the same. They then said "ok, you just pay for the second day breakfast". We refused to pay this, not for the money's sake but because it's simply not what we agreed upon. We said we would pay the agreed price, instead of 40% more.
Eventually, they called the manager to talk to us, who said that if we didn't like the price they were now suggesting, we could pay on agoda, where the price has now been changed to a highly inflated price. We ended up paying a small amount more than we should have, purely because I'd handed over my money and was waiting for change, which they refused to give.
In 2 months of travelling, this is the first time we have been forced to pay more for a mistake on the hotel/agoda's part. It's incredibly disappointing because the room was alright and the breakfast itself was really good. However, as some other people have stated, I would not stay here or recommend it to anyone due to the complete unhelpfulness of the staff and the rudeness of the manager.
If you don't plan on having any contact with the staff and just need a place to sleep, still go for somewhere else as there are plenty of much nicer hotels nearby for the same or less money, where the staff won't treat you like a fool - Pacific hotel, Khavi Villa, Succo Gene boutique.
- Jun (8/5): ok stay - it was ok stay. just for 2 nights only.. wifi slow.
- Tom (10/5): - This is a lovely hotel centrally located near the Olympic stadium In Phnom Penh. There are many restaurants and a mini mart 5 minutes walk away. The staff were wonderful, the rooms were superbly clean and the beds were so comfortable. I cant recommend this hotel enough, you likely wont find a better hotel for the money than the Mou Hotel in PP!
- sochanreaksmey (10/5): Best hotel room.Honestly. - As a Cambodian myself, I have been to so many hotels both in the provinces and in the Capital. But oh my god, the room at this hotel is so incredibly clean and spacious. For only 20$ per night, we got a room of two beds, each almost queen size. The AC works perfectly, there's a mini fridge, TV, Very clean bathroom, luggages storage shelves, lift, and very good restaurant serving pretty good healthy local cousins. I don't normally write review, but here goes.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice but average hotel - The hotel staff and room were pretty average. Would recommend staying here but dont expect anything standout. The room is clean. Good washroom. Comfortable beds. A little out of the way from the riverside and main tourist attractions. Neighborhood is safe and clean though. Expect to take a tuk tuk or taxi to most places. Walking will take 30-45 mins to most tourist sites. Good tv channel options.
- Tan (6/5): - first day didnt give me family room resason is the room rent out
- Kristel (6/5): Terrible service - Hotel was nice and clean. But I was brutally mugged and they refused to help me. They would not let me use the phone or advise where the police station was. I was truly appalled by the male receptionist. So were the other guests. I would never ever stay there again. I think their behavior to me was beyond disgusting.
- Walker (10/5): Great hotel for a great price close to attractions - This is a fairly new hotel located near the Olympic Stadium. The rooms are very clean, wide, and spacious, and they DO look like the pictures posted online. I like the location - 1-2 kilometers from the main attractions, yet far enough away to where it is quiet at night. Friendly staff!
- Sam (10/5): Customer service! - We had a great stay at the Mou Hotel we were here for 4 nights and what really stood out was the amazing service the staff provide and how friendly they are (especially the two guys on the front desk. Despite not speaking that much English nothing was too big an ask and they were always happy to help even letting me borrow there phone at one stage.
Room is lovely and spacious and location is good as well about a $3 Tuk Tuk ride to the river but right next to Olympic stadium and pretty near central market! Great stay.
- Jasey (8/5): Nice little place - A little bit noisy if your in the lower front rooms but it is phnom pehn. Everyone was really nice and happy got given free food and stuff. The room was clean and comfortable bed. Bathroom a bit strange in choice of colours. TV stations good, restaurants food was good. Oh Wifi was slow but probably lots of people on it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Only stayed overnight, so can’t say more than it was clean, functional and staff were cheery
One particular feature was the roof top bar- enjoyed views and chilling there with a cold beer
- Verified traveler (10/5): 1st time staying was great. 2nd time something els - Stay about 3 weeks ago. Experience was great.
So I booked the same hotel again. I only wish the staff pay more attention to their work and not assume my words. But manager did more to correct the issue so I give him some credit.
- philip (6/5): Rubbish - Rubbish experience and I am now on the streets of pattaya. Where is my rebate and compensation? Amp
- Anderson (10/5): Excellent - Good location, The room was very clean and comfortable. Good Wi-fi, I would stay here again.
- Richard (8/5): Good hotel but customer service issues - Staff was friendly and the room was very clean and modern. The coffee pot and packs of coffee they left daily in the room were much appreciated.
I only had two complaints. First, we were three adults sharing the room. We requested two keys (they are electronic keys to the rooms) but were told there was only 1 key per room. So we had to always leave the key at the desk when we split up so nobody was locked out. Having a second key would have solved the problem.
Second, when we checked out they seemed confused. I asked for a receipt and they said they couldn't! Then they asked me to wait while they checked the room. I waited at the front desk as one of the front desk staff went upstairs for maybe 5 minutes. He then returned and said I was free to go since I am guessing we hadn't stolen any towels or damaged the room. Again I requested a receipt of my stay and again they said they couldn't give me one. No explanation was given and we had a bus to catch so we left.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value, clean, a little noisy outside - Overall very good value for the hotel. Room is very clean and staffs are friendly! However, the room that we had was very close to the street and we could hear all the noises.
- Alice (10/5): Affordable and comfortable hotel - Within walking distance to food centers and tuk tuk transport. I enjoyed my tuk tuk ride everywhere especially the city centre. Local people are so friendly and nice. But the weather is too hot for me. Anyway, it was a great experience for me and my friends. The Mou Hotel is great with its value for money. The manager, a young man, was the most helpful and friendly guy which I had ever known. He helps to settle all our personal problems during our stay in the hotel. And helps to arrange our trip. We want to thank him for all he has done. Thank you.
- Ana (8/5): - Mou hotel was really good value compared to other hotels. Room was a good size and bed was comfy with good air con. I wouldn't be picky but our hotel room clearly wasn't cleaned...shower had black hair in it and door of shower was dirty. For a new hotel it was fairly dirty in general just with marks on walls and windows dirty etc. Reception staff were really nice and friendly and location was ok if you don't mind getting a 5/10 min tuk tuk they are always parked outside. Was handy place for cheaply stay and we were only in Phnom Penh for 2 nights so it did the trick!
- Low (8/5): Allowed early check in - Let me checked in at 10.45....love it !
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cheap, but not worth it. - The staff was nice enough, but the facilities needed work. The sink faucet was broken, and the bathroom was not the cleanest. The sheets & comforter smelled like sweat, and the pillow had a huge hole in it. Location was "ok" - not much around, and don't even think about walking unless you like a dangerous life. It was cheap, and gave us shelter for the night - but really, I'd look elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not perfect, good for low budget - I had to stay there for one month, the hotel is not bad and not excellent in the same time. Here are some points I would like to comment about:
- Do not expect the staff to help you if you found a cockroach or a lizard in your room. They do not kill it for some personal beliefs.
-Cleaning service do not dry after cleaning. They also throw the bed blanked on the floor while changing the sheets.
-Bathroom drain used to clog every time I want to take a shower.
-The kettle was very dirty inside and outside.
-Airport shuttle is expensive ($13)
-Poor English for most of the staff (except the receptionists)
- Daria (8/5): Improbable - Despite being good value for money, this hotel needs to improve cleanliness (I think glass doors of shower were never cleaned as well as metallic surfaces as shower and taps) and cooking (tried few dishes only one was decent). Housekeeping never came. Location is fine, can find tuk-tuk next to the door.
- Abayomi (8/5): I will return again - The hotel was good and my daughter has a nice time. But small ant is the problem.
- Ken Goh (8/5): Good Stay !!! - Enjoyable
- edz (6/5): Near to city - Friendly staff, late check-in, upgraded room.
Recommended for 1-2nights stay.
- Taylor (8/5): Value for money room - I was upgraded to a triple room on the 8th floor. Huge room with strong AC. Has many channels selection on cable TV. Friendly staff and helpful fromt desk personnel.
- ilene (6/5): Could have been better! - Good price, clean and new. BUT staff seemed to change too often and wthout sufficient English as I required basic information.
The manager was excellent the one time he was at the front desk. He was extremely profesional but needs to train his staff better,on the job training. Hotel is lovely and clean but that wasn't enough for me. I have confidence it will improve and be a five!
- Jay (10/5): Friendly Honest staff - I have to be totally honest about this the
mou hotel was great apart from not being able to maintain the correct water temperature in the shower. On the morning i checked out I arrived in another part of Cambodia to realise I'd left a silver chain with my Buddha pendant hung up by the window of the room the night before. When I phoned the hotel later that day
I was very upset and angry as they couldn't find it. I threatened the police and all sorts only to discover that I had told them to look in the wrong room . Upon giving them the correct number they found it and returned it to me. Embarrassing to admit but I made a Hugh mess of that situation, The staff at the Mou Hotel are totally honest and fantastic and I apologise profusely for doubting them.
Keep up the good work Mou Hotel.
- Kylie (8/5): Great stay - Our stay was really great, especially considering the price. The staff was very nice, bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean, no problems at all. Our only small issue was that it was a bit farther away from everything than we wanted so we had to tuk tuk everywhere. It was quiet though with was a plus. We would definitely stay again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quiet spot - Good place to stay. Not touristy but within twenty minutes walk of river front. Quiet, simple restaurant and even rooftop bar. Beds are a bit hard, but that's Asia! Everyone was nice. Bus tickets are cheaper at station.
- Krzysztof (8/5): nice place but not for a ling stay - Hotel was good and staff was friendly but in 5 day time they only clean my room once, and there is a lot of ant's everywhere
- Ryan (8/5): Perfect for 1 night - We were only here for 1 night so didn't reallt explore the surrounding area. Best thing was they arranged for us to visit the Killing fields in the afternoon and the tuk tuk driver was available straight away. Decent restaurant and rooftop terrace on site. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Calm and Peace - It was a nice and restful stay. Local area was fairly quiet. Various eateries around, less shops, not centrally located but the beds were comfy and the hotel has good amenities and wifi works well. If you want peace and calmness you should stay there. Staff are welcoming and helpful.
- Sophanna Kang (8/5): Nice hotel in Phnom Penh and close to down town - It is a great hotel with reasonable price. I will come back to stay when I visit Phnom Penh again.
- Ash (10/5): Great mordern hotel a little bit outside - Great mordern hotel a little bit outside the main tourist district but easy enough to get tut tut or walk. Tut tut driver is always outside so no problem getting one from hotel. Hotel itself was very modern had a nice rooftop bar. Shower good, rooms were big and comfortable. Staff were very nice and we booked our excursions through them as they were very reasonably priced. Would stay here again.
- Peter (10/5): Great stay, would recommend! - My wife and I had an excellent stay at the Mou hotel. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Staff was friendly and happy to help.
- jesse (10/5): Perfect condition new hotel - New hotel so all the sheets, towels, lights, and AC is in new condition. The nearby street is run down but overall this is a great value deal. I would book this hotel again.
- Smith (10/5): Wonderful hotel , close to S21 museum. - The location is perfect for visiting S21 museum , just 10 minutes walk. The room was very clean and spacious. They arrange the bus ticket to many provinces at the frontdesk with free pick-up service. Friendly staff , they always happy to help. Definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Hotel Mou. The Real Story. - Unbiased review. I travel to over 45 countries regularly for the past 25 years. I stay in every grade Hotel 2 to 5 star in these countries. Any good review of this hotel is based on its low price, It's Kind staff and the lack of knowledge of what's really going on behind the scenes. I also suspect that any poor review of any hotel on Expedia and other sites can be easily removed between Expedia and hotel itself. With that in mind here is the REAL REVIEW:
Review is not meant to be vicious just honest. Cambodian people in my experience, are the kindest in the world. However friendly staff was somewhat incompetent. My behind the scene view into the restaurant kitchen revealed filth and unsanitary conditions that in any other country would not be tolerated. Room smelled of wet dogs, AC did not work, trash on the floor including piles of dead ants. Refrigerator not working, bedding not changed but bed made, bathroom not clean with quarter-inch of water standing in the bathroom. Complained, second room much like the first with the addition of Muddy footprints in the soaking wet bathroom. Met with management they did not understand my concerns but cleaned the third room. Claimed it was their best. Room had stains on the wall some of which look like blood, cobwebs with spiders, ants on floor, furniture and inside of both beds with human hairs in the beds and every indication that the Linens have not been changed. Filthy urniture. Dirty toilet. Sink faucet torn off. I left ASAP
- Robert (10/5): Nice hotel close to many attractions - Not a big hotel, but more than what expected.
The room was very clean, the staff at front desk were very helpful.
The Wi-Fi is working well , but need to improve the taste of food at the Restaurant on 1st floors.
- Vichet (10/5): Great hotel to stay in Phnom Penh. - Excellent location , this 11-storeys hotel located on street 125, they offer complimentary early check-in at 12:00pm and is approximately 10km or 20 minutes drive by car from Phnom Penh International Airport. The room is clean , The staffs were very helpful, and what I love most is the restaurant on the 1st floor, the food was great. This hotel also has a roof top skybar, I really enjoy my cocktails with partner at night. I will recommend this hotel to every couples/families. You won't regret, just be there.
