Guest Reviews
- Tim (8/5): Peaceful when your neighbor is respectful. - The property was great. Very peaceful and the hosts were so accommodating and welcoming. The only issue is that the walls are pretty thin and when we got neighbors they were very loud. They proceeded to try to sign into our television while we were watching the ufc fights. We had to keep signing back in. Then they tried to do their airplay and couldn't figure out why we kept denying the sync request.
- Natasha (8/5): - The property is beautiful and very thoughtfully planned. Every detail is thought out. If you are traveling for a romantic weekend, I wouldn’t suggest this place unless you love being silent in every manner. Very library like, can hear everything in others rooms passing by or through the walls. Using the hot tub was great but again felt like you had to whisper anytime not in the room.
- Kentala (10/5): -
- Gregory (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Great spa.
- James (10/5): - It was all excellent!!
- Michelle (10/5): - Stayed just one night at this lovely lodge on our way back home from a road trip Feels more like a big homey mansion where strangers are considered family. Very cozy and relaxed and definitely dog friendly.
Interesting architecture inside with lots of beautiful warm wood and spacious outdoors with splendid and far views. Definitely recommend!
- William (10/5): - Beautiful building in a beautiful setting.
- Nicolle (10/5): - What a great find in Sandpoint. Friendly staff, and a beautiful resort. We'll be back.
- Helga (10/5): - An absolutely unique and beautiful property. The hosts and chef were welcoming and the food truly amazing.
- Tom (10/5): - Beautiful property. Friendly staff.
- Tom (10/5): - We stayed in lower level (not basement).
Hooks in bathroom for our robes would have been convenient. Also perhaps another bed side lamp?
Got a chance to converse with Heather the owner whose passion trickles down to her hosts Chad and Jill and Chef Jimmy who prepared the best meal I've had in a long, LONG time.
- Patra (10/5): - Beautiful property.
- John (10/5): Surprise in Standpoint - Chad and Jill are great managers/hosts
- Chris (8/5): Beautiful high quality place, distant detached staff - The location Self check in. No one around . Owner quite detached and made it clear they were only there for emergencies! Weird
- Tommaso (9/5): -
- Justin (10/5): - Talus was simply breathtaking and inviting. Our room was gorgeous, clean, quiet and relaxing. The house and property were some of the most beautiful places I've seen. The hosts were friendly, happy and fun to talk to. My wife and I will make staying there a yearly habit, or maybe a few times per year if we can afford it.
- Tyler (10/5): - Beautiful property! Friendly staff and full facilities including a sauna, which I used and worked wonderfully!
- Esther (10/5): - Beautiful ,relaxing place ,with all the comforts of home!
- Diego (10/5): - Great place to relax for a few days, very comfy and warm!
- Leckrone (9/5): Hands down highly recommend!! - Gorgeous inside and out; private but social; peaceful and beautiful! None of the following would prevent me from recommending this lovely place to stay nor prevent me from booking it again!
No outside alcohol policy when you arrive but not stated in advance (at least not that we or the other guests knew about). Alcohol available onsite to purchase but selection limited - prices reasonable:)
Hot tub chemicals irritating- wouldn’t use next time.
- SHERRIE (10/5): - Such a beautiful location and peaceful and quiet. Enjoyed coffee on the deck and walking the trail nearby. Room had fridge, microwave and everything we needed and nice sunken tub too! Highly recommend!
- Josephine (10/5): - Close to town, comfortable bed
- Joseph (4/5): - It’s not quiet. It wants to be quiet, and everyone there was quiet. If you’re not quiet, then you hear everything. Large space below room door, thin walls. Not an ideal place for pets. Pet will hear all sorts of noises, we heard all sorts of noises—walking, whispering, etc. No perks. Everything has a cost, or, “smile we’re watching”. Big field, take the pup for a walk, nope, poop everywhere. Staff ignored us. We didn’t know for sure they were staff, no identification or uniforms.
Won’t be back.
- Daryle (10/5): - I
- Josiah (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful! A wonderful, restful retreat.
- julie (10/5): - Everything in the inn was stunning, artistic and very creative. Beautiful, inside & out!!
They should make it more clear that you have to leave your shoes at the front door.
- Meriah (9/5): -
- Krous (9/5): -
- Tim (2/5): Dissatisfaction - Pretty No tv ..they asked us to take off our shoes..charge to use kitchen..no ice..no air conditioning, given a list of rules at check in..
- Britt M (2/5): Not Luxury - Talus Rock is not a luxury retreat. Its a house converted into a hotel, and unlike a bnb the caretakers didn't care to check us in and introduce themselves, we just received an email with a code for the door. There was someone there the whole time, so it was like I was walking around someone's home that i never met. Awkward. When we got to our room, the air conditioning was blasting, but there was no way to turn it off. Since its a home, the rooms are not individually climate controlled. It was slightly warm that day but cooled off a lot at night and I was really cold and uncomfortable. I texted the number listed to receive help as instructed on a sign in the room but they refused to turn it off, suggesting I turn on a heater. I slept terribly because i was cold, and the noise from the ac was also annoying. It was not hot out at all so it was really frustrating and bizarre. There was also no breakfast, like one would receive at a luxury retreat, or a bnb at that price point. The only snacks and beverages were for purchase. I definitely don't recommended this place, absolutely not worth what we paid! The decor was nice but the service is horrible.
- Trevor (10/5): We will be back - The place is beautiful and peaceful. Staff are so friendly. The extras were out of our price range. Last time we stayed we got a simple continental breakfast. It would have been nice to keep that
- Sarah (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful!!! Lovely setting, the house is an art piece all on its own - everywhere you look, it’s a feast for your eyes.
- Tony (10/5): - We loved our stay. Beautiful property with great amenities. You feel like youre staying in a beautiful home.
- Catherine (10/5): Talus Rock charm - Lovely place, comfy beds.
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathy (10/5): - Very unique and serene. The property is beautifu and I explored the trails throughout the acreage. I highly recommend.
- Donna (10/5): - It was just what we needed. Quiet, relaxing, no fuss, and the property was gorgeous. We'll definitely be back for a longer stay!
- M Zsuzsa (10/5): - This is wonderful place to stay!
For some reason I thought a continental breakfast was offered the last time I was here.
😊
- seth (10/5): - Very unique hotel. Absolutely beautiful inside and out. Just a few miles from downtown Sandpoint.
- Loren (10/5): - Very unusual furnishings
- Alina (10/5): - Wonderful!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Norma room - Room was comfortable but hard to identify but the room name was some 20 foot away! The lobby area and lounge were great for conversation with other guests. Jacuzzi and was so relaxing and the views wonderful . Unfortunately, at least 6 trains with horns blowing twice per, made restful sleeping difficult. Otherwise a great stay.
- Brian (10/5): - I arrived later in the evening and there was a good variety of drinks and snacks available. I didn't have to make an extra trip out.
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- RALPH (10/5): - Such a beautiful place, so well crafted
- Cindy (10/5): - Amazing stay. Very enjoyable. We’ll be back soon.
- Ronald (10/5): - Beautiful venue. The lodging is a modern Tuscan Villa crossed with Northwest Mountain Lodge. Very comfortable bed and large rooms with a view. The shared space is large and comfortable with couches and overstuffed chairs, a breakfast nook at the large view windows and large fireplace. The gourmet kitchen is well appointed. The outside deck has a luxurious hot tub that was greatly appreciated after a day of skiing. The large grounds include a pond and seasonal dipping pool. Just beautiful. You won’t want to leave.
- Mustard Seed (10/5): - Beautiful peaceful setting. The staff was very nice
- Joseph (10/5): - Very friendly staff and the personal chef was wonderful. If you are looking to just relax away from it all and want something quaint. This is perfect.
- Makayla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Makayla (10/5): Exceptional -
- jenny (10/5): - Really beautiful house- read the story of how the family created and built the Retreat- so much care and thought into every detail.
Husband and I were passing through between ski resorts, so we only stayed for one night, and because it's winter, we could not really explore the grounds. I am sure it's magical in the warmer months. (gorgeous kitchen, although no breakfast as it's low season)
- Cathy (10/5): Talus Rock Retreat - This was an amazing place and one I'd recommend to anyone wanting to get away. Its situated on 18 acres. Outstanding and peaceful. We had an amazing private Chef's dinner and shared a couples massage. Caretaker's husband/wife team Chad and Jill were wonderful hosts! Very helpful, giving insight for places to see and eat in and around Sandpoint. Definitely worth a return stay!
- Daria (10/5): - This place was absolutely stunning. We enjoyed every minute of staying here. Thank you so much and we will definitely come again!
- Kateryna (10/5): Quick 1 night stop between Washington and Canada - The room was really spacious and had a unique touch.
The Mountain Views from the common area were spectacular.
We came in EV and there was a parking spot with a charger - saved us an additional stop on our way home. There wasn’t much of a noise protection, we could here the other couple talking in a room behind the wall and in the bathroom, almost like having a bath with someone behind the curtain, and then someone’s snoring at night
- Ayman (10/5): - Very nice place and Excellent hospitality
- Greg (10/5): - We enjoyed a nice escape to this very cozy and relaxing lodge. The peacefulness was palpable.
- Debra (2/5): - I fell on this property 10/9/24 evening down concrete steps onto parking lot because the light was off & was pitch black at side entrance to parking lot. I fractured both wrists, twisted shoulder/back & right arm bled badly & now scarred from hard fall to asphalt. Calls for help went unanswered. I reported incident to all staff next am & left to seek medical treatment. One staff member said they forgot to turn light on. They refuse to help me with insurance info telling me to file with mine. Wrists still in cast as of 11/11/24. Numerous attempts for assistance from them unanswered.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charming woodsy hideaway - We were lucky to book on a Monday night in Sandpoint
The staff and inn are remarkable
What an awesome surprise, so gorgeous!
- Michael (10/5): - Unique facility on 18 acres of forest trees. Staff are very accommodating and friendly.
- Mark (10/5): - Very beautiful property just outside of town
- Verified traveler (10/5): Unique and beautiful - Unique, beautiful, peaceful property! Warm and welcoming staff. We loved it.
- Shawn (10/5): Talus rock - The room was unique not at all like a motel. The grounds are well maintained, the lower grounds had wild turkeys and deer browsing in the morning. The ponds were clear, so well maintained, and mosquito free. The entire building was clean. The staff was helpful. I was greeted and taken on a tour of the building and shown how the door lock system worked. Though breakfast was advertised and included it was carbohydrates not protein. I went to get some coffee to go only to find there were no to-go containers. There is no air conditioning. The window crank handles were missing in the room. The maintenance person found a crank that could fit all of the windows.
- Ochoa (1/5): Overpriced. Short on amenities. Overall poor experience. - Pleasant staff They overcharged us.
- Cheree (10/5): Wow, sensational! - What a delight! This custom home is gorgeous as is the grounds. Our host Chad was exceptional. Welcoming and warm. Just go stay here. You will not regret a moment. Bubbling in the hot tub watching the sun set on the Cabinet Mountains while deer play in front of you 💖 We loved everything but know that you need to sort your own dinner. It's not far back to town for lovely restaurants. Just something we think to be aware of. It's gorgeous, you don't want to leave the beautiful grounds but if you're hungry, you will need to 😁
- Philip (3/5): We made it work but wont be back. - The breakfast was so poor we left and drove to a restaurant. The location was quiet. No kitchenette just microwave and minifridge in a closet, no air conditioning, large spiders in the room, no nightstands, no actual breakfast, just microwave oatmeal, banana, and toast, way overpriced for what you get.
- Olson (9/5): コミュニケーションがもっとスムーズに取れればよかった - great garden and inside decoration was so amazing. Sauna, hot tub we enjoyed a lot. bed comfortable. bathroom was great. communication were not smooth. I sent messages couple times. question or about room etc there was no answer at all. no charge for kids, but there was difference between 2 adults or 2 adults +kid.I thought no charge for kid but difference was $40. charged for $40 for breakfast? if so sorry but breakfast was't like $40 worth. also it was much cheaper from their own web page. seemed it fixed now.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bradley (10/5): Very memorable for me and the kids. We caught - Beautiful place with amazing decor and atmosphere. The managers are so nice and informative.
- Amar (6/5): If measured by a good night sleep and a hearty breakfast, this place fell short - Location was very peaceful and beautiful. The staff were friendly. Walls were paper thin. Could hear everything in other guest rooms. Difficult to sleep.
Breakfast was paltry and somewhat stingy - like 2 oranges in a bowl put out for 6 guests.
Reviews were misleading, and unbalanced. A B&B Is about a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast. This place was average on both.
- Peter (10/5): Beautiful property with kind and friendly staff! -
- Marcia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Erickson (9/5): Superb -

- Gabriel (10/5): Rest & Relaxation - The atmosphere was amazing. The entire resort was beautiful. Very relaxing. We loved the bed...it was a firm memory foam and we slept great. Our hosts( Chad & Jill) were very kind and friendly. They had a spa which was amazing at night. We plan on coming back and would recommend this place for anybody looking to get away and relax.
- Tim (10/5): The Perfect Get Away. 12 out of 10! - This is one of the most beautiful, amazing and unique properties I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. From the moment you drive up the driveway to the large beautiful Tuscan style house you know you have made the right choice in lodging. The large great room, is incredible. Words can’t do it justice. Chet and Jill and the most amazing hosts you will ever encounter. The property and views are 10+! If you get a chance to stay in the Grand Arbor room, do it!!! So much fun! So romantic! It’s actually quite intoxicating! I’m coming back!
- Larry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alon (10/5): Amazing Home - Unique home. Beautiful architecture.
- Glenn (10/5): - Loved the stay it was fantastic
Only gave 4 star for facilities as I found the kitchen needed to be better equipped with cooking equipment like pans etc but other than that first class loved it
- Dann (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great and the staff made us feel right at home. I would definitely recommend this place for others to stay. Nothing, everything was great
- Michael (10/5): - Relaxing and quiet location.

- Erik (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marcy (10/5): - Talus Rock was the perfect girls’ weekend getaway for my sister, daughter and I. Just a short drive to Sandpoint for delicious food and a little shopping, then back to the resort for peaceful reading and watching the stars from the hot tub. The staff was absolutely lovely and accommodating. We will go back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Relaxing one of a kind stay - An amazing one of a kind place. Every room is unique. Very comfortable and relaxing. Continental Breakfast was really good, including cold eggs from their chickens and ducks. Service was great. Highly recommend for a get away near Sandpoint.
- Patricia (10/5): An unexpected gift! -
- Stephanie (8/5): 20th Anniversary Trip - This was the first stop for my husband and I on our 20th anniversary weeklong trip. This place is absolutely gorgeous with the most beautiful scenery. It is exactly what we needed to start our trip. It was so incredibly relaxing and the staff was incredible. The house is stunning and the rooms are so cozy. The only recommendation I would offer is regarding breakfast. We were a bit surprised at the offerings at breakfast, especially since the home showcases a beautiful kitchen upon entering the front door. We expected something of the hot variety, yet there was yogurt, bread for toasting, hard boiled eggs and granola.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Gary (10/5): - Wonderful placce
- Laura (10/5): Private estate luxury with amazing staff! - Wow, this place is truly stunning! It felt more like we were staying in a private estate in another country. Staff was above and beyond! Wish we could have stayed longer! So basically there was nothing we didn’t like.
- Barry (9/5): Superb -
- Melissa (9/5): Superb -
- Mike (10/5): Relaxing…. - Rustic cabin near good hiking area. Very slow service in bistro.
