- Zack (6/5): - While the location and the grounds of the Colony are impressive, the room we stayed in and the service were quite unimpressive. The very old, stained carpet in the room (as well as in the elevator), the squeaky floors, and the lack of even a bottle of water in the room (not to speak about a coffee/tea machine) gave us a bleak, unwelcome feeling. Regarding service: by noontime on the second day, our room was not yet made. We alerted the front desk, and they promised it would get done later in the afternoon. We returned to the room close to 5 pm, and the room was still not cleaned. When we asked the front desk about it, they told us that the cleaning team had already left for the day. Only after we insisted did we find the room rearranged on our return at 8 pm. And all this for a room of over $500 a night. Highly disappointing—will not return and will not recommend the Colony Hotel.

Didn’t know we were staying in a place that had no AC and no TVs in the rooms. The property looked a little ran down. Weddings on site took away from the experience and was noisy up to 12 am in the morning. For the $600 a night cost I would never stay here again
- Jeremy (6/5): - The Colony Hotel is in an enviable position on Ocean Drive and on entering the hotel we were struck by the imposing reception area and beautiful sea view from there. Our room was beautifully decorated and we appreciated the fact that we had free parking and that we could walk into town. However, we felt that the hotel is totally reliant on the beautiful building and location for business and does not appear to be particularly concerned with customer experience. The sheet on our bed was torn and despite mentioning to housekeeping was not changed. After much discussion we were offered a free breakfast which we accepted. The bath had a constant drip and the bath was stained as a result and we found hair in the bath that was clearly neither of ours for the duration of our stay. We also felt that the lack of tea/coffee making facilities was poor. To add insult to injury, when we checked out they attempted to charge us for 2 evening meals that had been incorrectly assigned to our room and which took an inordinate amount of time to sort out. We had thought that staying at The Colony would be the highlight of our trip but were left feeling totally underwhelmed. We will not be recommending The Colony to our friends.

- Paige (8/5): - The Colony is a largely historic property with a superb view and outdoor pool about a mile (walkable) from Downtown Kennebunkport. Our room was not ready on time the day of check in, and we received mixed messages from staff about when it would be ready. Ultimately, we dealt with a staff member who was not helpful at all, some might say rude, following a day of travel and long wait. Fortunately, the gentleman at the pool and pool restaurant staff was lovely while we continued to wait and wait. We could not get a table for breakfast the first morning, which was frustrating. Our room was much smaller than advertised and did not have AC, which was not ideal in August. Overall, our experience at The Colony was mixed. The outdoor pool area overlooking the water was by far the best feature, but otherwise the hotel was a disappointment, especially for the price.

The Colony is a very historic hotel in an absolutely unsurpassed location... truly like walking back in time. While some aspects of the property could use some updating, I give the experience a total 10 and highly recommend it to people that appreciate the historical significance of the experience and the stunning oceanside location. Can't wait to go back!

Unfortunately, the rooms themselves were a big letdown. They felt very outdated, noisy, and not at all convenient. You can hear every step and conversation from upstairs, which made it hard to relax or get a good night’s sleep. For such a prime location, I really wish the accommodations matched the setting.

- daniel (10/5): pool lounge beds were very uncomfortable. - Everything was excellent except one critical thing. The pool lounge chairs/beds have a metal bar that puts pressure on your lower spine and is painful after 15 min. Very uncomfortable and unforgetable.

There is no air conditioning in the rooms just 2 fans but as long as it’s not over 82 degrees you are fine. The room we stayed in was near the outdoor lighting so you had to pull down your shades fully which also hampered airflow into the room. All in all it was a lovely hotel the staff was wonderful the ground are lovely and we will come back again to stay here. As a bonus despite us not having dogs, Dogs are welcome for an extra charge. The breakfast(buffet) is lovely and views eating are great and staff everywhere is so accommodating and friendly.
- Cary (10/5): - I was looking for a resort on the Maine coast that was dog friendly and the Colony Hotel knocked it out of the park. The facilities are fantastic, beautiful views and a brief walk to downtown Kennebunkport. Lots of dogs families and couples, young and old. We will likely come back every summer from now on.

We would leave the property at 9:30am & fully expected our room would be ready as we came back to prepare for the evening. On Thursday it never got done as their timing was too late for our schedule. Called for maintenance twice on the day we checked in. Maintenance finally shows up the NEXT MORNING. We had been using the toilet at nearby restaurants until then. My husband told me to go up to the lobby in the morning in my pjs to use the toilet which I was not thrilled about. Too bad because otherwise we liked it. We had noted other reviews about the hotel having problems and it seems like staffing might be a real issue for them.
- Aaron (6/5): - While the grounds of The Colony are gorgeous and it’s within walking distance to the beach, the cleanliness of both the property and the room left much to be desired. Upon walking into our room, there was visible garbage, hair, and stains on both the bed linens and rug from previous guests. Moreover, the shower did not drain as we showered and created a pool of standing water. The shower curtain had an overpowering musty smell and looked dirty. As we explored the property, there were soiled cups and plates, as well as garbage, strewn about the lawn and tables that are meant for guests to sit at and enjoy the ocean view. We had a similar experience at the morning coffee bar. Coffee and milk was spilled all over the counter and not a staff member in sight to clean it up. Given the price point, these conditions are unacceptable. That being said, the view is gorgeous and the staff were very friendly.
- Karen (10/5): - The view is stunning!! It has a really nice pool with comfy seats. The hotel itself is relaxing and quiet. There is a ton of history and it’s so interesting to read about it. The rooms look old-fashioned, but it’s part of the vibe. It was nice that they had coffee and muffins every morning, and you could go out on the big giant porch and just sit and relax and look at the ocean as you drink your coffee.

Would highly recommend noise machines! They should also put maybe some air fresheners in the room as they do smell very stale.

Friendly staff and only a short drive to downtown shopping and restaurants. Cons: Restaurant food was “ok”. I thought the dinner menu was the lunch menu. Just apps and handhelds.

The parking for these properties fill up in the summer which made it impossible to park when we got back from dinner. Breakfast is include and it is a great buffet. We ran late one morning and they were nice to grab us some containers to fill and enjoy our breakfast on there scenic porch. Over all this property is a beautiful hotel to visit. No ac or tv’s in the main building, but consider rooms are fully equipped.

- Helen (4/5): - We have stayed here many times and have always enjoyed our stay. We booked our room a year ago to celebrate my birthday. Our reservation was for a garden view room which also included breakfast. We arrived in July 7th and our room looked out onto the maintenance yard and dumpster. Since there is no air conditioning they supplied a fan and extension cord. Not very safe. Needless to say garbage was picked up at 7 AM and awakened us. We were also told their policy for breakfast changed and we would be charged $19 per person plus an automatic 20% gratuity. Breakfast was mediocre and the service was awful. We always enjoyed playing cards on the deck and it seemed most tables had empty glasses that were never cleaned up. The hotel is dog friendly but it seems over run now with dogs, barking early and late at night and water dishes all over. The only thing good about the Colony is the location. We cut our vacation short there and traveled south to York Harbor and stayed in a beautiful,clean inn with breakfast ,ac and half the price right across from the ocean. We’ll never go back to the Colony.

Did not eat on site but enjoyed continental breakfast muffins and coffee and cocktails from the bar. Very clean and the staff friendly. We were there at the shoulder season and there was plenty of seating at the pool, on the porches etc. Very dog friendly and most, if not all were well behaved. There are no TVs or AC in the main building but the windows open and there was a ceiling fan as well as a nice oscillating fan in the closet to use. We would definitely stay again.

- Elizabeth (4/5): - I stayed here years ago and they made everyone feel at home. I couldn’t wait to bring my husband to experience the wonderful first time I had there. It was definitely a letdown. This time it felt very cold. If we wanted breakfast we had to pay or go somewhere. The “pastries” as they called them with the coffee did not seem fresh. They were muffins which is a bread not a pastry. The rooms definitely need decor updates. Some wallpaper was starting to peel. The old charm of the building is there, but freshen the poor old building up. It’s been 20 years since I was there and the wallpaper looks like it’s been there for 50. I love wallpaper, but give the building a little care and freshen it up.

They did but again it would not work after 7PM.

The check in person was nice, but since it's winter we had to go to the Coveside Market to get checked in. He gave us a sheet of paper with directions for Wifi/TV. The wifi was easy to connect to but we had a horrible connection that was extremely slow and kept cutting in and out. The TV was difficult to use, and when we finally found something we wanted to watch the show kept cutting in and out, then we would have to fast forward from the beginning every time, only for it to work for 5 minutes then cut out. We did not call the after hours number because this was not an emergency, but it was extremely frustrating to say the least. This was supposed to be our celebration getaway after getting married, and it really didn't live up to hopes or expectations.

From the pre check in courtesy call, and the welcomed mid stay call from Mike that my wife’s lost wallet was found near the market, to the very spacious, comfortable room and stay, we couldn’t have been more pleased.
