Guest Reviews
- Jessica (10/5): 5 star - Amazing all round really enjoyed our stay
- William (10/5): Fishing trip - Enjoyed our stay at beamish Mary inn.
4 friends on a fishing trip
Rooms are a good size.
The staff and locals made you feel welcome.
Food in hotel was good.
Would stay again
- Debra (10/5): - Very friendly food excellent would stay again. Very close to Beamish museum
- Adrian (8/5): - Great food good company very friendly bathroom needs updating
- David (10/5): Worth returning to! - This is our third stay, and we always come away happy.
Very conveniently located for Beamish
Included breakfast is excellent
Rooms are dated, but the beds are clean and I'm told restoration is underway
Staff go above and beyond to help.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A very pleasant stay - Beamish Mary Inn was built in the 19th. century to serve the needs of the quaintly named industrial village of No Place. It seems still to be the village's social focal point with occasional entertainment provided. Once on the main Stanley to Chester-le-Street road the village is now by-passed and quiet but retains a good bus service. It is about a half mile from Beamish open-air museum. One of the two bars has an open fire, the other a cast iron stove. There is a good menu and local real ale available. The proprietor, staff and locals were all very friendly. Our room was a family room with two double beds. It was quite spacious and had a very well constructed and spotless en-suite. We also noticed new double glazing. Light eaters should make this clear at breakfast. The proprietor very kindly gave us each an extra egg when we asked for no sausages! Anything that Beamish Mary lacks in rural charm is more than compensated for by the warm welcome and value for money.
- David (10/5): - Cosy and staff are friendly and helpful
- Terence (10/5): Very enjoyable - Brilliant. Staff friendly made you feel very welcome . Food excellent cannot fault it .
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The landlord greets you with a question as soon as you arrive... "Do you want to see your room before you pay"?
I guess the answer should have been yes, but after a long trip you are just glad to have arrived.
As much as they want to keep the pub as a shrine to times gone by, surely they could make an effort to bring the rooms up to a more modern standard.
The view from our window was of a rear yard with a less than inviting seating area for smokers to use.
The food is home made and flavoursome, but prices as a restaurant not a pub.
- Natasha (10/5): Would stay again - Wonderful place to stay. Excellent value for money. Lovely cooked breakfast. Staff were great. Nice pub in a quiet village.
- Ian (10/5): - Old building, in process of being updated, but very clean and comfortable. Staff were excellent, very friendly and obliging. Food was also excellent with large portions
- Krystyna (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property, thanks to its bright and elegant rooms and the owner’s exceptional hospitality. The room was comfortable and tastefully decorated, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The owner made a commendable effort to ensure our stay was enjoyable. His friendliness and the excellent homemade food, including fresh bread, added a personal touch to our experience. The breakfast, with its delightful homemade offerings, was a highlight, setting a positive tone for the day.
The property’s location is also a plus, being conveniently close to the Beamish Museum. This allowed us easy access to one of the area’s notable attractions without any hassle.
Additionally, the stay was very reasonably priced, offering great value for the comfort and amenities provided. For travelers seeking an affordable, spacious, and welcoming place near the Beamish Museum, we highly recommend this property.
- Amanda (8/5): - The staff and owner really helpful and friendly. Nice atmosphere in bar in evening. Would definitely stay again.
- Nicholas (8/5): - Basic b&b don’t expect luxury..the rooms are clean and roomy…the people in the bar are the friendly and welcoming
- deborah (8/5): - Had a 2 night stay here and nothing to complain about the lass behind the bar on friday when we arrived was most helpful with everything we asked and the breakfast on both the mornings set us up for the day, thanks guys :)
- Susan (8/5): - It is a very old property so anyone expecting a 5* look elsewhere. This inn has cracks in the odd wall and the carpets and furniture are not new but everything is so clean, homely and friendly. The food is all home cooked and so tasty. The staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We would use this inn again in the future.
- Tiger (10/5): - This is an excellent place to stay if you want to visit the Beamish Museum. The Museum is 20 minutes walk away with good bus options. The staff and owner could not have been more friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and very well priced. Ian's breakfast was cooked to perfection with quality produce that filled you up ready for the day!
- Mark (10/5): Hidden Gem - Stayed one night when visiting Beamish Museum. Warm welcome. Great food. Room was comfy and clean
- Peter (10/5): Great pub great beer - Excellent host, brilliant staff, and very friendly local customers. Highly recommended, for accommodation if visiting beamish museum, as it’s close enough to walk .
- Diane (10/5): - This was our first visit to Beamish Mary Inn. The landlord Simon was marvellous as were all his staff. His son Kevin, who will break some hearts, was lovely and carried our bags to our room. The girls behind the bar were so friendly. You could have a laugh with them. They couldn't have been nicer. They were all so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was out of this world. A large choice and everything was delicious. The portions were so large. We've never had such value for money. The pub is a local pub and it was wonderful to see the happy atmosphere. All the locals were so friendly. The pub is only 5 mins from Beamish Living Museum so is an ideal place to stay. We loved our time here and hope to see everyone again in the future.
- sharron (10/5): An all round enjoyable stay. - Great value for money. Second stay here. Great food and super friendly and helpful staff who go over and above. Debra and Simon were super hosts.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Was what it was - Room was disappointing bo ensuite, had walk across hall to bathroom. Wasn't aware when booking.
Evening food menu was good and large portions. Breakfast included but only option of a full English.
Staff was extremely friendly.
- Julie (8/5): - The BeamishMary Inn was basic but clean. What makes it is the staff who were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was good with lovely homemade bread but wasn’t served until around 9.00am we like an earlier breakfast but this is just our preference.
The only thing which could be improved is leaving the fire exit details etc in the room. During the night the front door is locked and you have no way of exiting the building. There are fire instructions on the back of the bedroom door but where fire assembly points etc are have faded and are not visible so this needs to be addressed.
- Wim (10/5): - Lovely host
- Gerry (10/5): You’ll never regret it - Great place to stay Simon and Alan have it just right their customer care is spot on
- Brian (10/5): - Full of character and very friendly locals and staff.food was very plentiful and very good quality.
It’s an old pub but kept very clean
- SJ (10/5): - Convenient location with extremely friendly local folks, free parking alongside of streets in the safer neighborhood area, locals greet you with manners in the morning, pub owner cares and respects nightstay tenants privacy also offering courtesy from every aspects, even arranged personalised attendance to keep door open for me after midnight.
- Peter (10/5): Food glorious food - The landlord went beyond the call of duty to provide us with an excellent continental breakfast. The evening dinners were much more than ample the beef and ale pie was reminesent of Desperate Dan's Cow Pie there was so much meat - wonderful.
- Joyce (10/5): Beamish Mary inn - Friendly welcoming staff. Lovely food and good prices for the massive portions.
- John (6/5): - It was a pleasant enough place with nice large bedroom although rather small en suite. Clean and tidy. We stayed on a Saturday evening and wanted a relatively early start home on the Sunday morning. Being a Sunday morning breakfast could not be served before 9am. In the morning we decided not to wait and were ready to leave at 8am, however, the external doors were locked and we couldn't get out ! Luckily someone turned up about 10 mins later and we were able to leave then.
- Stanislav (10/5): - Lovely place to stay
- Stephen (10/5): - An unpretentious pub with rooms and full of character, which left us delighted we had stayed there. The owner Simon set the standard, and the 'salt of the earth' staff were so kind and helpful, working so hard as a friendly team to make our stay enjoyable. The home-made food was brilliant - very reasonably priced with large portions and a wide menu. A fine place to stay, with people who care.
- Alan (10/5): - The thing that made it was the landlord and staff.
- Shanda (10/5): - This is a very charming hotel if you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing stay. The staff was very friendly the room was clean and comfortable, and the pub food was delicious! Its location is in a very quiet neighborhood so it’s not close to shops or other restaurants. Great place to meet local residents.
- Sharron (8/5): Ideal location - Arrived to be greeted by welcoming staff.
Friendly locals chatted to me.
Food fantastic.
Good prices.
- R (8/5): - absolutely ideal for what we wanted
- Margaret (8/5): - It's a happily thriving local pub so don't expect a quiet early night! It is excellent value for money but some aspects of the property were a little tired. Food also great value with some plant based options. Excellent range of local ales but it would be nice to have more than Beck's Blue as a no-lo alternative.
- Craig (10/5): Fabulous trip up north. - Lovely little trip to Beamish and a cracking place to stay. We love to visit historic and quaint places and The Beamish Mary Inn did not let us down.
The owner was so friendly and made sure our stay was spot on. The accommodation was spacious and the food was amazing.
Will be definitely visiting again.
- Anna (8/5): - Stayed for 2 nights in a family room. We visited Beamish and the hotel is just 2 mins drive from it. Hotel staff are very friendly and will walk an extra mile. Breakfast were included and it was excellent. We also had our tea at the hotel and it was lovely and portions are massive. Would recommend this hotel.
- Mark (10/5): Lovely Stay - Stayed for one night as we were going to a wedding nearby, the place was lovely and the staff so helpful and friendly.
- Alison (10/5): - Brill brill everything top notch food staff rooms excellent took our staffy she was made so welcome looking for dates to go again sunday dinner georgous all food brill 5*

- Clive (10/5): - Nice large clean room above a pub. Surprisingly quiet too
- Zale (10/5): - Very warm cosy and comfortable accommodation with very welcoming and friendly staff plus fabulous meals
- Jane (10/5): Really friendly and helpful place to stay - Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room although only just warm enough - didn't have control of any room heating and radiators seemed to be off. Very welcoming to our dog and an excellent breakfast. The Beamish Mary is a traditional pub with rooms and wouldn't be for everyone but it was perfect for us.
- Paul (10/5): - Very good and friendly place to stay
Breakfast was excellent 🙏🙏
- Richard (10/5): One night stay at Beamish Mary Inn. - Staff and customers very friendly. Nice sized room. Comfy bed. Lovely, traditional pub. Good evening meal and breakfast. 3 minutes drive to Beamish museum.
- Debbie (10/5): - Very clean & welcoming can’t complain about anything it’s the 2nd time I’ve stayed this year
- Sheila (8/5): - Staff very friendly room clean food was to a good standard , only stayed one night as we had been to beamish Museum , would stay here again next time we are up there .
- Craig (10/5): I will sat again. - Surprisingly nice, really good, great breakfast, 5 cask ales
Excellent. very kind too - gentlemen made a bacon sandwich to go for my son who couldn't get up.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cheap and cheerful - An ok stay in an old fashioned out of the way little village. Room was basic but clean and bar area was cosy with a few locals enjoying a pint with a log fire warming the room.
Breakfast was good and plentiful but we didn’t have an evening meal.
Good value for two people at £70 including breakfast but just basic amenities.
- Isobel (10/5): Great budget option - Very clean and comfortable. Staff and customers very friendly. Food is pub grub but well prepared and huge portions. Excellent location if visiting Beamish. All in all a very enjoyable stay.
- Courtney (10/5): Stayed her after a wedding - This hotel was lovely.
Staff was very helpful, food was good and very clean.
- Gareth (10/5): Tp notch stay - We had a fantastic tome, it's a lovely, friendly place. The rooms are comfortable and the food is really good, the pub itself is really nice and reasonably priced, it has a section of real ales, open fires and a good crowd. Si and the gang are fantastic, really nice people and nothing is too much trouble.
- K (10/5): An interesting place! - An old miners pub that the owner has turned into a small hotel. The service and staff were excellent, the surroundings quirky and in keeping with the history of the pub but cleanliness was faultless. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
- Amy (8/5): - A lovely unique inn set in some gorgeous scenery. An old converted pub with quirky features a plenty. Warm room with good shower.
Simon is a lovely chap - friendly and very helpful - highly recommend!
- Benjamin (10/5): A great break - Everyone was friendly and the hotel was very comfortable
- George (6/5): - Check in was chaotic. Arrived after 5pm and room not ready. Had to wait another 30 mins before room was prepared.
- Deana (8/5): - Very friendly staff who attended to all our needs. Super breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Enjoyable stay, helpful, attentive and friendly - Absolutely fine... Attentive staff with a good ole' geordie welcome.
- Stephen (8/5): Nice, friendly, welcoming place. Highly recommende - Service from the barman/waiter and the landlord was excellent. Very friendly and welcoming. Food was great, excellent value. Whole place was clean. Mattress a bit too firm for my liking but wife and kids slept perfectly well. Alright for some. Would defitinitely stay again though
- Steven (10/5): Stay at Beamish Mary Inn - For us it was the perfect location, and just right for returning as it’s in the heart of most of where we want to visit in future.
What make us want to return is the friendliness of both staff and local people, plus good food and excellent beer!
Had we known home plans had been changed, we would have stopped the rest of the week.
- John (10/5): Satisfied customer - Very happy with my stay, full englsh was excellent, Would stay again no hesitation.
- carrie (8/5): - The room was nice, the staff were lovely
- MELVYN REGINALD (10/5): - Landlord very friendly and helpful as were all the staff. Being very picky the pub had a slightly run down feel inside and out although the rear garden was getting some attention during our stay. Compensated by the great attitude of all the staff, Room was all that was required for a short stay
- Alexander (10/5): Excellent stay, look forward to our next stay - Landlord and all staff extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast and evening meal were delicious.
- Carol (8/5): - Very pleasant and helpful staff. Room clean but could do with some updating. Food was good and very plenty full.
- joy (10/5): excellent - We loved this place. Traditional pub with a wonderful environment. The food was lovely. We enjoyed the breakfast so much we can hardly wait to go back again. Fresh local eggs, homemade bread and bacon straight from the butchers. Not that watery stuff you buy from the supermarket. Thank you so much for making our stay enjoyable. we shall be back.
- Kath (10/5): - Have to say a massive thankyou to all the staff at the mary inn they were very attentive polite and helpfull .food was delicious bedroom very clean and comfortable will definetly go back again ..five stars and more from kath and joe 👍👍👍👍
- Phill (10/5): - staff always welcoming, including the owner who makes a cracking breakfast!
Room was as others describe, perfectly servicable and clean (and under the bath mat was clean!), bedding felt rather premium with a neat red trim.
Parking is literally right by the door, road links means Chester-le-street, Stanley or Beamish Museum are all easily found.
We rocked up on a Friday afternoon and droped the fact we needed a table for 7 people for dinner, which was met with a "no problem", had a few of the ales, others in my group partaking of the premium lager.
Decent range of soft drinks for the kids and the "kids meals" are more than adequate for the hungriest of children, always room for the included ice cream though!
Highly recommended, especially if you are going to go to the Museum.
- Robert (10/5): Recommended place to stay - Staff were fantastic. Taxi to venue was delayed on return and hotel owner is required to let you in after normal hours.
Nothing was too much trouble, quirky nice place, good breakfast and value for money.
- John (10/5): Perfect getaway - Absolutely perfect place to stay the staff and people in the pub were very nice, and the food is insane going again in a few weeks just to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world
- Duncan (2/5): Beamish mary stay - Filthy stair carpet leading up 2 flites. Room4 - freezing, dirty, faeces and cig ends in toilet, 1970s bathroom desp to be replaced. Main room worn and dilapidated.Travelled the world and never been anywhere as bad as this. No heating,no cups, no sppon, milk, very dirty. On the positive, friendly staff, not bad breakfast and cosy bed..but bitter cold even tho we requested heating on.very poor for £70 and worst accom we,ve ever stayed in.
- Guy (10/5): Beamish break - A freat place to stay after a day spent at Beamish living museum. Excellent staff. We werre met at the door and luggage carried up to our room. Two brand new kingsize beds. Our 9 yr old grandson loved it. Brand nes super bedding and also an updated en suite, with a super walk in shower. Our meal was chosen from a good choice of menu and our grandson was even given the choice of a chocolate bar when he didn't want the ice cream from the menu. Great night's sleep and a choice of cereals for breakfast, followed by a full English. Would definitely recommend the Beamish Mary Inn.
- Gary (8/5): - Enjoyed tea cod fish, mum had steak

- Trevor (10/5): - Stayed at the Beamish Mary in August and once again had a great stay. As I have written in previous reviews the rooms are good and homely.
We were there on a Sunday so decided to have the Sunday lunch, wow amazing, all fresh veg, delicious beef , lashings of gravy. Huge portions. For pudding Simon’s mums Mars bar cheesecake 5star.Fantastic. Even though they were busy the food was well cooked and well presented, served by Sam and Vicky,
Breakfast next day was just as good cooked by Simon and set us up for our trip home.
Thanks all .
- Stewart (8/5): Character Inn, good value accommodation. - We visited Beamish Mary on a family trip from Scotland to London with our dog. Simon, the landlord, aims to deliver good value for money and certainly achieved that. He and his staff provided very efficient and friendly service. The room was clean. The dinner menu had a wide range of choice. Pub food, but well selected with quality ingredients. Breakfast was similarly good. We very much enjoyed our stay at Beamish Mary.
- Sharon (10/5): Relaxed check in, comfy beds and pleasant staff. - Very relaxed and helpful check in, with pleasant helpful staff from the bar staff to the host, the food was lovely the beds were comfortable and our dog Ralf enjoyed the walks which were close by. We loved the friendly atmosphere in the pub and will definitely return, this is a gem as family and dog friendly pubs are difficult to find.
- Diane (8/5): - A very pleasant one night stay here. Extremely warm welcome from the staff. Good was tasty and fulfilling.
Room was clean though a little tired. Bathroom was across the hall which wasnt ideal and wasnt mentioned in the booking.
Overall an enjoyable stay
- Elaine (10/5): Beamish Mary We Will Be Back! 10/10 Stay - Best B&B we’ve stopped at, lovely friendly staff and owner along with the local punters! We had a prebooked night at Beamish Hall and wanted to extend our stay in the area at a local B&B the night before - 100% the best part of our mini break and we will definitely be back again! Warning- once you enter the bar you will not leave the bar 😂 at least they feed you and the food is excellent!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very friendly and welcoming. Great food and good beer.
- Jean (10/5): Would stay again - This was our second stay and we were not disappointed. It was even better than last time as our bathroom had been refurbished. Food is very good, staff friendly and helpful, the building has character and overall good value. Would recommend.
- derek (10/5): Recommended - Proper little working pub with rooms, really friendly host. Parking is immediately outside on the forecourt.
Breakfast was very good.
Room was clean and well presented. Can't beat it for VFM.
- Lee (6/5): Avoid - Staff friendly will not stop there again first and last time it’s cheap for a reason
- Nigel (10/5): - All very good & value for money
- Verified traveler (10/5): - They love to feed you up 😋😋 they were friendly host's and the locals were very friendly too ..if visiting beamish museum it is a great location
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great welcome from genuinely warm and friendly staff, the attentiveness to customers needs was clear and thoroughly added to our stay.
Our room was spacious and had good facilities along with comfy beds. The Inn itself is pretty amazing, especially if you enjoy a traditional pub with a well looked after bar and good food. Special mention for the real ales and breakfast!
The location is great too for Beamish Museum (15 min walk). There are spaces to park outside the Inn or across the street.
Overall Simon and his staff couldn’t have made us anymore welcome and it was a throughly enjoyable stay. Will definitely be back.
- Gillian (10/5): - The hotel staff were so friendly and accommodating, pleasure to stay here.
