Guest Reviews
- Hayley (6/5): Basic but comfy, good food in the pub - Comfy bed Shower could be cleaner
- Andrew (4/5): uncomfortable and disappointing having had a long journey and day at a family funeral. - Food in the Bar was great and staff were very friendly Beds were too soft and uncomfortable. Room was very small so no real space to unpack or hang clothes as hanging rail was above the tea making area. Bathroom was no ensuite.
We chose this because it advertised a gluten free menu but this was non existent and staff were unfamiliar with menu and offers in general.
- wendy (8/5): Loved it - The staff were brilliant helpful kind the food was excellent Little problem with tv kept turning its self on didn't get get chance to let them know
- Mindelynn (6/5): Brief overnight for a local appointment. - Convenient and easy to find. The staff were very kind. Loved the convenience of easily being able to come and go, with parking included. Very much appreciated the ability to re-warm takeaway/own food, with cutlery and dishes as well.
- Lindsey (5/5): - The staff were friendly. The bar and restaurant had a good selection and the food was very tasty, there is a good discount for guests.
The room itself was ok as somewhere to put your head down for one night.
Kettle with tea, coffee and breakfast bars. Access to a microwave in the communal area if you have food to heat up. Mattress and bedding felt like it had seen better days. I didn't like that the bathroom was down the hall I didn't like the condensation catchers which were nearly full in the window. Not everything was cleaned to a good standard. I didn't like the giant keyring for the room key.
There was loads of junk out the back of the building which doesn't make it look very appealing when you park up.
- David (9/5): Welcoming and comfortable stay - Very friendly and helpful staff. We had a great welcome. The room was a good size and comfortable. Location was perfect for our trip. The pub is lovely with good beers and atmosphere. We didn't get a chance to try the food but will next time!

- David (10/5): Great - Zero fuss. Large room. Pub was friendly. I would have liked the option to have breakfast because the food was highly rated. But understand it can’t be staffed continuously
- Jonathan (8/5): -
- Louise (9/5): Cheap but better than I thought staff at atmosphere food and drink and comfort - It was a true locals pub but food was great . Friendly staff
Nothing unpleasant about it,
Food was great Nothing
- Laura (7/5): Crafty cow - The staff were welcoming and kindly helped us with our bags. They gave us information about entry out of pub hours and checked whether we needed a table reserved for tea.
The beds were comfortable and tea and coffee facilities were in the room and refreshed each day.
The shower worked well and was clean, with plenty of towels, and a heated towel rail which kept the room at a good temperature. The TV seemed to have a mind of its own and even turned on one night when we were both asleep! We made sure not to leave it on standby the following night!
- Shirley (10/5): Couldn’t have wished for a better stay - Stayed here last night. Absolutely fabulous staff, friendly and very helpful. Accommodation was excellent with a huge bedroom. Excellent location for us. Will certainly stay here again if in the area. Great food too. Nothing to improve on

- Tracey (5/5): Didn’t feel clean and I wouldn’t use again. - Bathroom was separate along the corridor.
The sink and the shelf above the sink hadn’t been cleaned.
Springs sticking out of the bed.
- Joanne (8/5): Great value for money - Friendly staff, comfy room, parking, it’s a bit tired, but for the money it’s excellent! N/a
- chris (7/5): Great staff, great food , rooms ok - Staff were brilliant Bed was uncomfortable and didnt have ensuite bathroom
- Yusuf (9/5): - I like the location and staff of this place.
- Mike (4/5): Close yo hospital. - It was close to the hospital. Having to walk down the hall past the stairs for the bathroom.
We didn't realise it wasn't an ensuite, it said private bathroom.
- mark (8/5): grets place at a fair price , room confortable. - Great pub , good value for money and nice food nothing everything was ok
- Darren (5/5): -

Ceiling fan. Led mirror. Nothing

- LUCIFER (8/5): - Convenient location close to South Mead Hospital, which we needed. Lovely staff and excellent quality food. Bathroom and bedroom need a little tlc. Otherwise I couldn't fault The Crafty Cow and I would highly recommend them.
- elec81 (9/5): Absolutely worthy! - Lo staff molto accogliente, il cibo buono, la camera spaziosa, il letto molto comodo e il parcheggio privato gratuito
- Suzanne (8/5): - Location close to Southmead hospital.
Good evening meal.
Friendly, helpful staff.
- steve (10/5): -
- Rowe (8/5): Good value, good location - Friendly staff, lovely bedding Decor a bit dated but this didn’t stop us enjoying our stay
- Nicola (8/5): Friendly , lively pub - Very comfortable room
- Rachel (9/5): -
- Mike (4/5): It is a room above a very friendly pub, so expect it to be noisy. Nice bed, dirty shower. - Staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was large with a very comfy bed.
Food was beautiful. The room was above a pub, and I expected it to be noisy, so that wasn't a problem.
The shower was dirty, the glass doors and tiles had not been cleaned, and there was hair in and around the drain.
- Ross (7/5): Convenient, good value accommodation with a very friendly team - Convenient location and despite being above a pub we were not disturbed by noise at all Some of the living area was a bit tired but that did not impact our stay
- Bruce (7/5): -
- MacDonald (10/5): -
- fiona (7/5): Comfortable and charming -
- ross (5/5): - Van broken in to so steer clear if your working away

- Anthony (9/5): Great location. great staff, good value for money. - Ideal location - having arrived by car and left it in the pub car park, a short 20 minute bus ride into city centre. Spotlessly clean room and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay there again.
- Diana (6/5): Clean and comfortable - Location Southmead Hospital No en suite- personal bathroom down the corridor
- Nadine (9/5): Would stay again. - Friendly professional lovely staff. Comfy room and bed. Little loud with the quiz night but thats okay.
- Keisha (10/5): 10/10 would come again - Staff were so lovely and accommodating and the room was sooo nice and comfy we slept like babies and its a lovely pub!!
- Dawn (8/5): -
- Alice (7/5): -
- carl (8/5): Thanks for the hospitality! - Staff were great, really helpful, beer was great! Accommodation was value for money. Nothing extravagant but comfortable and clean. Nothing really, if I wanted to nitt pick then perhaps water pressure for the shower wasn't great but we were able to get fresh and clean so like I said it's nitt picking.
- Helen (5/5): An interesting stay in quirky accommodation. - Pleasant, helpful, welcoming staff.
Location - easy access to hospital.
The cleanliness of the bedroom and bed linen. The lack of breakfast.
The fact there was no breakfast facility wasn't clear in booking information
The lack of en-suite facilities - the 'private' bathroom was further down the corridor, awkward during the night.
- Kathryn (8/5): Very convenient for my needs. Good food, friendly staff. - The accommodation was warm and inviting with friendly helpful staff.
The food was delicious too.
Comfortable bed and pillows. Couldn’t say I had any dislikes.
- Penny (8/5): Great stay. Already booked return - Location to hospital. Friendly helpful staff. Great to have free parking as staying at Crafty Cow. Comfy bed. No razer plug
- George (6/5): -
- Elizabeth (6/5): I thought it was expensive for a room. - It was the location we wanted.
Friendly member of staff on arrival.
The double bed was large and very comfortable. No food available which we knew beforehand because it was Christmas.
My adult daughter and I had a family room as no twin rooms available.
The ‘ z bed’ was extremely uncomfortable so we both slept in the very large double bed.
The kettle needed descaling - my daughter would not have a hot drink.
It was difficult to work the heating so the room was sometimes cold.
- Gareth (6/5): Short and sweet. - When I arrived none of the doors were open and it was raining heavily, I'd keep that in mind next time when you know guests are arriving
- Malcolm (8/5): -
- chatterton (1/5): Don't stay bad value, bad location , basically a bed in a cold room - Nice enough guy opened the door. It says book in from3 but the pub doesnt open until 4 i got there at 355 so he saw me , not sure if anyone would be there at 3pm also not sure how I would raise attention I didn't expect to turn up to a shut pub for £96 per night The electric radiator didn't work so very cold. The light next to the bed was broken and potentially unsafe as was coming on and going off and was falling off the stand. I had to work in the morning from the room and had to wear my coat. The entrance to the rooms is behind the bar which leads to a tired old area which looks nun used. It feels someone saw an opportunity to earn a few quid as they have some rooms upstairs. Don't stay believe me you will regret it within 5 minutes. Being cold you don't want o spend any time in the room it felt the same as a very bad youth hostel equality.
- Frances (8/5): - No handrail at lower part of staircase.
On one night that l stayed had the small room and bathroom was along the corridor, was not aware of this when booked.
- Lynn (8/5): - Location, 10 minutes walk to Southmead hospital
Very kindly agreed to refund me when I had to cancel future visit at short notice as my husband was discharged from hospital.
- Frances (9/5): Convenience, great tv, comfortable bed. - It was v convenient for the hospital The stairs banister would be better if continued to the bottom
- Anthony (10/5): Clean, comfortable znd welcoming - Food and service was excellent Nothing
- Dawn (9/5): I didn’t want to have to visit UK to see my father in hospital but enjoyed my stay all the same. - I live abroad but needed to return to the UK to visit my father in Southmead Hospital. Initially I booked in for two nights, then a further three nights and then a further one night. The team were really helpful by ensuring I was able to stay in the same room, which I really appreciated, as it saved me taking my luggage into hospital and brining it back again. I enjoyed the menu each day but thought the roast was the pick of my meals (belly pork with crackling, roast spuds, lovely red cabbage and the gravy was superb). Second favourite choice was crab ravioli (which I had twice during my stay). Couldn’t work out how to use the electric radiator!
- Christoper (10/5): -
- Trevor (8/5): -
- Dennis (10/5): -
- curtis (10/5): Very happy. Would use again. - Shower wasn’t that good. Everything else top notch. See above.
- Nikolas (9/5): -
- Frances (6/5): Found the room very small , no plug in sink, bathroom along the corridor 🙁not mentioned on their website , not good for - Very friendly and near to the hospital At the bottom of the stairs it would be advisable to continue the hand rail for people with mobility issues.
- Solomon (7/5): Pleasant enough stay, good value for money, great for a weekend stay - Comfy bed and pillows, light but warm duvet - my preference! Facilities need updating a little - shower and TV
- Julie (8/5): Super convenient for the hospital. Super friendly staff. Would definitely return. - We were visiting at the nearby hospital which was in walking distance from the hotel. Staff amazingly welcoming and although we only stayed one night, they were generous enough to allow us to leave the car on the car park FOC on the day of departure. A real one-stop shop in that they had a great range of drinks at the bar and a good restaurant menu. Really good service. Would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return. Our bathroom wasn't ensuite but was exclusively for our use. Fluffy towels and plenty of hot water. Very quiet once the pub had closed. Would have been good to have an ensuite but not really a problem as the bathroom allocated was exclusively for our room.
- Christine (7/5): Friendly, spacious, no frills - We booked here to be close to my son's student house. Rooms were clean and staff were friendly. We had dinner here one night and enjoyed it. No breakfast available. Grubby entrance to accommodation. Pub noise until 11pm - but that was to be expected.
- Richard (6/5): Well located for Southmead Hospital - Well located for Southmead Hospital and on several frequent bus routes to the city centre. A large car park at the rear available to guests. Friendly and helpful staff, and whilst we did not eat at the pub the meals looked very enticing. On Sunday afternoon the tables were well occupied and there was a lively and good humoured atmosphere. I was disappointed that our bathroom was not en-suite and meant a sort trip along the corridor. The pub closed fairly early in the evening (which may be considered a bonus) but did not serve meals after 5pm which meant we had to look elsewhere for an evening meal.
I will check more thoroughly in future to ensure that the facilities available more closely match my requirements.
- Sharon (9/5): -
- Kim (10/5): - Perfect location to explore Bristol's Gloucester Road shops and restaurants. Friendly pub with good food options and beer selections. Room was large and bed was comfy. Bathroom is small, but you get use to it.
- Gary (6/5): - Clean rooms but surprised my room was not en suite, with a private bathroom up the corridor. Excellent staff. Dodgy door for access after 11pm. I was locked out and had to knock on the window. Also no breakfast available. Good beer in the pub itself.
- don (9/5): -
- Dermot (9/5): -
- Isaac (10/5): - Nice room, above a popular pub. Made me feel welcome
- Stuart (8/5): Pleasant enough - The bathroom was shared and along the corridor - just as well we weren'f shy as we had only towels to wear!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Avoid pub quiz night! - Pleasant, spacious room, friendly staff on arrival, however no parking available so had to park on the road outside. It was pub quiz night and my room was directly above the bar, so it was very noisy (suggest avoiding Tuesdays or arriving in time to get a parking space and joining in the quiz!). Other than this a pleasant stay.
- Joseph (8/5): -
- sue (8/5): -
- Mandy (8/5): -
- Greer (10/5): Absolutely staying here again when I visit for work - Clean and comfortable with lovely, happy staff. Bathroom is down the hall but still private.
- mark (8/5): -
- Hank (5/5): - Near Southmead Hospital Bed too soft, insufficient milk for tea & coffee, access to the rooms is not good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great one night stay, staff at Crafty Cow superb, room was great; bar served great food and choice of beers!
- Andrew (10/5): - Good pub food
- David (8/5): - Parking isn’t great but other than that, a lovely venue
- Margaret (9/5): Great people. Friendly. No hassle. Particularly good for travel on my own. - No breakfast available Separate bathroom outside room although private. However this was reflected in lower price so perfectly fine exchange
- Vanessa (6/5): - Booked for location to the hospital. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was nice, just didn't like the fact I had to walk down the corridor to use the bathroom. No ensuite
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- Aaron (8/5): - All good except struggled with tv operation took ages to get tv channel
