Guest Reviews
- Luis (8/5): - our check in was a bit cood, maybe the lady was not in her best mood, but we hope to receive a better welcome.
the hotel itself is a jeel, very confy, coffeemaker with coffee, 4 bottle of water, shampoo, conditioner., all the necesities. we even had a great time in the sea.
- Luis Fernando (10/5): - Todo muy bien
- Clarence (6/5): - The hotel was close to 5th Ave.
The hotel was at best, adequate. There were limited electrical outlets in the room. No parking available. The swimming pool was dirty.
- Roberta (10/5): - Too many stairs. Nice balcony.
- Heather (8/5): - It’s a fantastic location in the middle of 5th Avenue but there is noise and music at night. The hotel is also tucked away around the side of The Carmen hotel, so it’s sort of amazed to get to your room. They also do not have an elevator. Fifth street is also closed at different times during the week, so a taxi cannot always get up close to the hotel…that means walking to try to find them elsewhere. Also beware of the sargassum (seaweed season). It has a cute little beach club right in front that faces Cozumel, which is nice. The only true disappointment we had was about a noise complaint for a neighboring visitor who was playing loud music and we tried to contact the front desk, but no one answered until the next morning, so no sleep at night. Bummer when you’re excited to get up and start fresh the next day! Overall, I would stay again but consider it a budget hotel (but on the water!).
- Andrew (8/5): - Nice ocean views
- Matthew (10/5): - Nice property small pool great restaurant
- Lyall (10/5): - Hidden gem in PDC. Rooms were excellent with everything you needed for a beach stay. Recently updated, comfortable beds and lots of large fluffy pillows. Housekeeping staff did amazing job cleaning and providing extra clean towels. Hotel staff very attentive to needs. Very nice beach club, kept sargassum cleaned up every morning. WI-FI did drop out and was slow, that’s was only minor issue we experienced. Great location right on 5th Ave. so close to everything. We had a great stay!
- Chris (8/5): - This is a charming boutique hotel with a no frills style but big hospitality, chill beach vibe and near 5th ave.
- Mimi (10/5): - Clean, quiet and in the beach. Staff were friendly specially Raul at the bar. Highly recommend
- Anne (10/5): - Clean and close to everything. Helpful staff, nice pool and right on the water.
- Lia (8/5): - Nice hotel steps from the water. Our room was nice and clean for the most part - make sure to ask for new coffee if you want some otherwise it’s hit or miss each day. But they gave us more when we asked at the front desk. The music at the nearby restaurant was quite loud until about 11pm and started up about 7:30am but it was still quieter than 5th. The front desk at the Carmen serves as the reception for Luciana hotel as well and although the Luciana front staff are not present as often, the folks at the Carmen were happy to help us out. Our room was steps from the water which was a real bonus. The location was great and I’d recommend this hotel.
- Guy (10/5): Everything you could want in a Mexican beach resor - Everything was working as it should, the a/c was cold the shower was hot, the room was clean and well appointed and the location was fabulous. The Beach and restaurant staff was friendly and accommodating. The Restaurant had great food at reasonable prices. One of the nicest beaches around. I will definitely go back.
- Carla (10/5): - We stayed at the hotel Luciana and had just a wonderful stay. The restaurant has especially good food and Raul our waiter was very helpful and ambitious. I would definitely go back to stay at this hotel. The only thing was the maids had forgotten to give coffee and waters one they clean the rooms.
- Dhruvesh Nileshbhai (8/5): - Recommended for the people who want to stay near beach.
- dib abi (10/5): - Everything Was OK
- steve (10/5): - Great hotel. Excellent food. Raul was a fantastic servercand the rest of the employees were great too. Rooms were clean. Fridge worked great. Beach is very nice walk about 100ft to the south to enter the water to avoid rocks at tge water edge
- Barbara (10/5): Great small hotel - We stayed 3 nights to try out this smaller hotel directly on the beach. We arrived before check in . They happily stored our luggage so we hopped on the ferry to cozumel to soend the day before we could check in. Checkin was easy. You get a bracelet, beach towel and 1 room key. The room was a good size. Very basic in decor but we dont spent much time there. The bed was hard . Clean sheets and bath towels. Soaps etc in the bathroom. A shower mat was on the towel rack but no hand towel or wash clothes were provided. So the next day we took a towel from rhe cleaner. There is a coffee pot and mugs with pkgs of coffee. The deck was large with a small ocean view room 101. We noticed other decks are very small. We enjoy our morning coffee there so it was nice. The best part of this hotel is their beach restaurant area. Chairs, loungers, umbrellas available. Raul the waiter is amazing. He's very attentive to all. Other staff were VERY kind helpful with luggage etc. We felt very safe and at home here. I'd definitely come back for the beach club, the great staff, good food drinks. And close to everything .
- Anna (4/5): - hotel entrance from the beach through the bar and on the sand hopeless. Service so-so. Rooms clean but old-fashioned. Not very clean. No attractions at the bar in the evening. Breakfast poor, I do not recommend. The beach is ok, there are few sunbeds. The hotel is only good because it is in a good location
- Mayra (8/5): - There is some wear and tear but the room is clean, bed was comfortable and I felt safe during my stay. The entrance is on the beach side or passing through a restaurant. Walkable to ADO and plenty of restaurants and stores. There is music that goes on 24/7 but it didn’t affect my sleep. To access the ocean
- George (2/5): Double Charged Thievery - Horrible experience! I arrived about 9 PM, and the front desk is operated by two different hotels. The hotel I was staying at did not have a person at the front desk, and I ended up being double charged because the woman who checked me and did not know how the other system worked for the other hotel. It’s been two weeks that I’ve been trying to get this corrected on my AMEX, and the hotel refuses to cooperate. Hotels.com has not been of any help, and I’ve had to go to American Express to file the dispute. Such a waste, find a big hotel that can assist you instead of trying to save a few bucks.
- Joel (8/5): - The hotel rooms are clean , average accommodation , the pool is nothing special but we didn’t go to swim in the pool we went for the beach and it’s right out our room and awesome . Service was great at the beach club and hotel ,The hotel is close to everything you need . If your looking for good place to hangout at the beach this is it. I would use this hotel again .
- Irina (8/5): - A perfect location (right on the beach), an excellent value for the budget.
- Ryan (2/5): Paid for beach view and got concrete view - I did not get the room I paid for. They said "tobad". The room also smelt bad
- Maria (6/5): - This property is incovenient
- Michael (10/5): - Excellent place to stay. Had no complaints. Location was amazing. While near the beach and Quinta Avenida, it was a quiet location and we heard no noise from nearby businesses. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely do again.
- Mailis (10/5): - Right on the beach with chairs and umbrellas available. The swimming pool was really clean and great for the kids.
- Javier A (10/5): - Close to beach and other areas of interest.
- Liana (10/5): Wonderful - It’s was great. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. There was hot water for showers. Refrigerator in the room. The staff was absolutely amazing!!! Location is perfect!! We had perfect beds to lay out on!!! It’s a definitely be back as I have been to playa 18 times!!!
- Stacy (2/5): - We booked a deluxe room with Oceanview and patio, king bed through Expedia. When we checked in, they tried giving us a ground floor room with no view, no patio, and two beds. I went back to the reception and they moved us up one floor to a room with a balcony and Oceanview, however, it was a basic room, not the deluxe. It did not have a king bed, but had two double beds. It was much smaller, with no sitting area as stated in the listing, and was extremely dirty.
There was sand on the floor throughout, mold on the shower doors and ceiling, blood on the bathroom floor. The furniture was dated and nothing like advertised. We were told they did not have another room. We paid extra for the upgraded room category and did not receive it. I feel we should be refunded a portion of what we paid as we did not receive what we paid for. We absolutely will not stay here again.
- Vlad (8/5): - Clean and comfortable rooms, bar located on the beach, friendly personnel. I would definitely return.
- Gabriela (8/5): - Great Access to beach, friendliness of beach/bar area personnel
- Andrew (10/5): - Travel disruptions left us needing a room last minute and later at night. Check in was fine and the room was a great end to our chaotic day. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Playa del Carmen.
- Bruce (10/5): - The property was very clean, it was close to the beach, and we got excellent service all day long on the beach. Darien took very good care of us.
- Marysol (4/5): - The place is clean and nice, but the card (key) didn't work I could not go to sleep until late then the next day they forgot to save me a beach chair that was only for International tourist . 😡
- Verified traveler (2/5): VERY loud - We were not able able to check in until after 5pm, after which point the Luciana reception was gone for the day. Unfortunately at approx 6pm we checked in through the adjacent hotel, and our room vibrated and reverberated because of the adjacent parties and people yelling and partying next door. We were told this was only going to get worse but that there was nothing that could be done or accommated until possibly the next day. The sound was so potent my phone shook off the table.
- Joanne (8/5): - This is the hotel we chose to stay after a terrible night at another place. This place was formerly Playa Maya Beach Hotel that we have stayed at before. The rooms do need upgrading which I think they are doing slowly. Bed was ok but somewhat hard. Staff mostly spoke Spanish but food and service was excellent! The chef Victor went out of his way to cook whatever you wanted and it was most excellent. The best is that it is right on the beach and they have very comfortable beach chairs and beds! There are a few stairs to contend with but all in all, I would stay here again! They were installing new refrigerators when we left.
- Jennifer (10/5): - My husband and I just spent 3 nights at Playa Maya. We got to the hotel a little late, but was greeted by Marvin (I believe he's night time security) who helped us to our room. The hotel doesn't have a street entrance so you must walk through the beach, which was fine, we're at the beach anyway! They provide fresh water for the rooms and ours was cleaned nicely everyday. We have nothing but good things to say about this property. Our favorite person was Marvin. He carried great conversations with my husband and I and suggested many fun things for us to check out. The breakfast was good and the hospitality was even better. We will be back!
- Andrea (6/5): Run-down and overpriced - Entrance is difficult to find so call upon arrival. Website listing is inaccurate; the room was very run-down, uncomfortable and with bare bones amenities. The main light was burned out, the closet had no hangers, the safe was broken and unusable, no fridge, a coffee maker without coffee or cups and the only toiletry provided was shampoo through a soap dispenser. The hot water ran out after one minute and the bed was old and uncomfortable, as were the pillows.
That being said, the staff was amazing!! and it's a great location. The a/c worked well...
- Dinah Elizabeth (6/5): - Small hotel which is good
- Alfredo (10/5): - A returning customer, this hotel is beautiful and has the front entrance in front of the beach so it's very relaxing to see. I always recommend Playa Maya Hotel :)
- Venkata Srinivasarao Chekuri (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay. Little interior to public access
- Jean Pierre (8/5): - The property needs a direct access from Calle 8 NTE and not to have your shoes wet by the ocean while accessing the hotel by the beach - the rest was fine and the management are excellent people and very hospitable
- Javier (2/5): - Very dirty mold everywhere and broken items
- Raymond (2/5): - Not very well kept
- Alfred (6/5): - Nice staff, spacious room, ample hot water, good views of ocean. Rocky beach, seaweed discolored water, a bit run down, wifi a bit spotty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great day at the beach. Perfect proximity.
- Paul (4/5): Below average hotel - Toilet was running; TV didn't work. The room was barely better than backpacker hostel. Really disappointing stay based on the 8.4 star rating which is clearly innacurrate
- chris (6/5): - No Wifi for 3 consecutive days in the rooms, wifi was available at main restaurant though. Location is great. Right on the beach. People talk about walking across beach to get to hotel, its 30 feet off the street via beach. Rooms are very basic, not dirty but no extras at all. No blanket on bed beyond sheets for example. Breakfast is great, good omelette and coffee, friendly staff. Office staff are so - so, not looking to help. Location is perfect, on the beach, close to everything and central.
- Albert (4/5): - Liked it was right on the beach. No deadbolt or peephole on the door. Room was entered twice
While we were in bed. Had stayed here several years ago, property has gone downhill.internet only worked half the time. Staff was nice, but new.
- michelle (2/5): very rude - your man at the desk would not let me in with my service dog.
Your ad on hotels.com said that service dogs were ok.
He was tude to me and unkind. he did not care that I
had no other place to stay. I asked for a refund and he said no. so you will either refund my money now or I will file a claim with spread word on the internet of your very difficult hotel!!! Michelle
- German (2/5): - Nothing works like the jacuzzi, the pool was so dirty, I’d told the guy who’s cleaning to don’t clean my bedroom and he didn’t lessen and throw away my wife’s very expensive lotion.
- martin (6/5): - The property needs some major maintenance, we didn't get clean towels all week, staff were good, although, there was different staff every day. Great location
- Bobby (6/5): - The biggest problem I have is that you actually have to drag all of your luggage through the sandy beach to get to hotel. Also lots of mold under wall AC unit. Only way in and out of room is through sliding glass door with very questionable lock. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the room or sleeping at night.
There are many choices on the beach here. I would recommend finding somewhere else.
- Laura Gail (10/5): - The beach was wonderful and the staff at Playa Maya were so amazing and kind!! We really loved the people working at the hotel. Beachfront access is awesome. Also, food here is actually quite good for an included breakfast. The facilities like shower etc are not luxurious, so if that is what you’re looking for this isn’t for you, but it is clean and nice enough for the price! I would definitely recommend this hotel based on how well we were taken care of.
- Sergio (10/5): - Beach *)& pool
- Mark (10/5): - great manager
- Carlos (2/5): I do not recommend this place - This place is really old and there’s sea sand everywhere, there’s not even a matt at the entrance of the room to keep it clean. Room furniture are ugly and the bathroom needs a completely remodeled.
I dislike the place till the point I went to a different hotel without thinking i. The money I had already paid. Btw. The pictures on website has nothing to do with the reality.
- Mark (10/5): - The manager was very helpful
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfectly combined the best of both worlds: - Perfectly combined the best of both worlds: beach views and tranquility away from the bustling noise. My stay at serene and relaxing escape while still being just steps away from the beach.
The location was absolutely perfect for those seeking a restful stay without the disturbances of the lively nightlife scene.
The accommodations were both comfortable and well-appointed. My room had the beach views exactly what I wanted and boasting all the amenities I needed for a pleasant stay. The attention to detail was evident, and the cleanliness of the room truly added to the overall sense of comfort.
The hotel's staff deserves special recognition for their warm hospitality and attentive service. They were always available to assist with any inquiries or recommendations, making me feel truly valued as a guest.
In conclusion, my stay at was a delightful experience that combined the beauty of the beach and be near the main street. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway in Playa del Carmen, away from the noise yet in the beach, I wholeheartedly recommend this hidden gem. I left feeling rejuvenated and grateful for the wonderful memories created during my stay.
- Ernesto (8/5): - The hotel is adequate. Friendly service but lack parking.
- Carlos (4/5): - It was not terrible but its really a run down property. It reaaalllyyyyy needs some renovation. Beside some of their staff and the location, I would not stay here again. A/C is very little for the space, pool is not clean, resception is a room 10x8, rooms are ok in side- but we had to upgrade because the original was a cave…. And the one that really make me mad!!!:: last day we had no water! Yeap, like you heard it… No water for a very long time. Had to take water from the pool. Free breakfast was very good actually.
- max (8/5): - Great little hotel right on the beach. Clean, friendly and affordable. Be aware that like with every other small beachfront hotel in the area, you do not have parking and have to pay for street parking or a parking lot.
- Matthew (8/5): On the beach! Small hotel with view and great eats - We has a nice stay. The power was out on Quinta Avenida so we were concerned about being hot but the manager Benjamin was very nice and showed us the room ahead of check in and it looked great. Power came on right after tour and rooms cooled off quick with in-room ac. Really good value for adjoining room suite. The food at the attached restaurant was delicious way above expectation and the staff were very kind and friendly. The splash pool was convenient but water was a little hazy. two things to consider were that the water pressure was pretty weak in one room, and not working in the other, but that could’ve been just our units. Also, there is no street access for this hotel (it’s literally between sixth and eighth Avenues) so you have to cut through a construction site with your checked luggage to get in (or drag it on the beach). overall a nice stay and a great location just off all the excitement on Quinta Avenida!
- Carlos (2/5): - They did not fulfill their promises. There was no free parking, we didn’t receive free breakfast due to the employees boycotting outside. The employees are hardworking sweet people but this hotel does not pay their employees on time and make them work free extra time. We had to leave a day early because there were no workers or service. I would not come back or recommend!!
- henry (8/5): Quick weekend away trip - Hotel was clean and tidy for a small local type hotel. Room service was daily and good. The rocks on the beach and the seaweed were a bit problematic but most maneuvered them well. The pool was small and mainly just used by children. The beach entry was different but not a problem once you figured it out. The breakfast was good and a welcome touch. Lady in the office was most helpful. The transport through the hotel is $89.00 and the modern air conditioned bus to and from the airport was 250MXN ($15.00).
- olga (10/5): - The pricing, good location, good breakfast, except the entrance,
- Albert (8/5): - Our room was clean and comfortable. The hotel was close to alot of stores and restaurants. There was alot of seaweed on the beach but infront of all the hotels in that area at the time we were there (mid May). We liked the breakfast at the hotel restaurant. We only had one real issue which was that they tried to charge us for something from the minibar that we did not take.
- Sheryl (2/5): - You are not allowed to bring food or drinks to your room. The pool is very small won’t fit 4 people at the same time. the beach had so much seaweed that’s wasn’t removed or cleaned. the breakfast was disgusting and you can’t choose what you want they offer you either eggs or pancakes you can’t have both. Coffee was disgusting. The area around the hotel is not safe. Streets are full of huge cockroaches and flies. Was not a good experience at all and was not fun at all.
- Merna (2/5): - The hotel was very dirty
- Hugo (6/5): - Hotel entrance is on the beach, problem is, there is not sidewalk, and to get to the hotel, beach has rocks, and the waves were hitting rock, it was unsafe to walk there, with luggage, the first impression is terrible, something like what did I booked and you regret, AC not working and we asked for two towels and they did not provide them, multiple calls and even talked to the manager, she did not care, so for us, we will not stay ever in this hotel, the waiter Rodrigo was awesome
- Joel (10/5): - Everything is clean nice and helpful staff been here twice
The security guy at night is very friendly and very helpful
- Lendy (8/5): - The location is amazing. Employees were great!
- Deanna (8/5): - The location for this property is great. Friendly staff always willing to help. If you are looking for luxurious, this is not the place. Could use updating of the rooms and amenities. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and most of the reviews are spot on as far as condition of the property. Breakfast was great every morning. Good beach service.
- susan (10/5): - Had a Very Nice stay!!!! This is the Third Time Staying with Playa Maya. Plan to Stay Again Next Year!!!
Thank You for the Wonderful Stay!!!!!
- Tom (10/5): - Literally right on the beach!
A half block from 5th Ave where all the clubs, stores and restaurants are located, but very quiet in the hotel room.
The staff is very attentive and treat you like a family member.
It’s the complete package!
- Pedro (6/5): - Podría estar mas limpio. Mejor servicio de ama de llaves. Desayuno muy equis.
- Blanca (8/5): - It was hard to find the hotel because the streets are closed. When you call the hotel they don’t answer. I had to keep calling until I got a hold of an employee.
- Dusty (10/5): - This was my 2nd trip here this year. The rooms are large and well equipped. The breakfast is fabulous. Everyone is so nice here. You couldn't be closer to the water unless you were in it. My brother in law and sister also join in on this trip and they also loved. Samanya the manager comes to the breakfast area every day and speaks to each table. That is wonderful customer service. There is nothing to change here.
- Dusty (10/5): - Everyone was so nice and helpful. The breakfast was great. The location is just awesome. The manager took good care of us. Thank you Samanya. Randy and Debra
- Loris (10/5): - Excelente servicio
- Miguel (10/5): - Property needs a full update on how it looks but overall it’s good. Amazing staff m, very helpful and friendly and Marvin the security guard made it feel like the safest hotel. He’s out guarding all night and asks for room numbers every time and is on the lookout for strangers around the area. Cleaning staff did a great job with the rooms and from office receptionist were all very kind. Yes this hotel needs a remodel and maybe some paint but the stay and staff are great.
- RICKY (8/5): Convenient - The hotel is right by the beach, this is a small hotel very convenient location for the beach and cinco avenida, the only thing that i did not liked was the people smoking by the beach chairs.
- Jose (8/5): - Excelente servicio muy buen desayuno incluido delicioso! Habitación con vista al mar solo que la entrada es por la playa 🏖😊
- martin (10/5): - Great hotel and staff. Beach and bar are both really good
- randy (10/5): - the staff were very friendly and helpful especially Rodrigo,
Damian and Marvin
- Oscar (10/5): Great Place! - Beach front meant sand. In and Out of the front door you had to go through the sand. High heels or not LOL! Tired but Clean place, nice landscaping, Jacuzzi jets not working. Great Breakfast made to order. Friendly staff.
- Chris (10/5): - Beautiful beach front experience, great staff, great access to all activities in the water on the beach and in town!
- Gerardo (2/5): - Was way worse than the pictures looks like.
- Jose (8/5): - The breakfast and the service was great,
- Joel (10/5): - Excellent service and kind people they always help and make you feel like it’s your home
Thank you
- Angelica (10/5): - I liked how close we were from the beach.
All the staff were very cordial and helpful.
- Kathleen (10/5): - Beautiful place to stay & the food is delicious!! Everyone is very nice and friendly. Great location!
- Blanca (10/5): - Clean rooms, super friendly staff only think the breakfast includes is limited but everting else super good
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely getaway - This was an amazing property! Miguel at the front desk was super! He greeted us on our first night and explained everything we needed! All the staff members from the wait staff to housekeeping was super nice! Great location!
- Ying (10/5): - Took us awhile to find the property at late arrival but it is well worth it.
