I got a text the day before to say the rooftop pool was closed due to a private event on the day we were arriving . We changed our plans because of this.

- Dutta (9/5): Great hotel for a short weekend stay by the ocean - Proximity to the beach/boat loading area, how quiet it was and yet close to all things necessary. Staff were great, food options were good too. We could not find the staircase from the 2nd or 3rd floor down.. in case of emergency, it looked like we have to use the elevator down. It wasn’t marked anywhere where the exit through staircase was?

- Delongchamp (4/5): Not great value overall (consider safety) - Decent location walkable to the marina and Cheesecake Factory, valet parking included in price. Safety was an issue. King room was on the ground floor directly looking at the parking lot, so easy access from street without passing through the hotel lobby. Even rooms on higher floors did not require key card to access the elevators. Room itself had color changing lights and too many mirrors which felt tacky.

- Vanessa (7/5): A family friendly hotel - The Shade is a great choice for a trip to Redondo Beach. Located right on the water, you've got access to the shore, beach and attractions. I wish it was a more walkable neighborhood outside of the tourist attractions. You are surrounded by other resorts and it takes about 14 minutes to walk to grocery, coffee and everyday needs. But it was doable.

Unless you have Peleton and Tonal accounts, there’s nothing to use except the mats. Maybe 2 people can be in there at the same time. Expand the size and invest in free wights, bars and a rack.

Room was not ready when checked twice, pool was tiny (size of a glorified hot tub) and no towels an hour after requesting. 1990 wifi speed (seriously), restaurant was closed with constant events and noise. Carpet was disgusting and coupons for $20 off per day bought less than 1 drink and soda. Terrible experience overall and severe disappointment. Will never stay again nor recommend. The Holiday Inn was a better experience!

- Emily (10/5): Fabulous roomy room with a marina view - I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Shade Hotel. My room was so spacious and well appointed! I loved the tub out on my private balcony! The industrial type steamer was fabulous at getting a long formal dress ready to wear for a wedding. The robe was so comfy, as was the bed. Great room to relax and enjoy the view of the marina. Really appreciated the "living room" area with the couch. Nice touches like heavy shower doors, good hardware on the drawers... The ONLY thing that was not 5-star was the breakfast - dried out eggs, greasy sausage... nothing special there. Better than nothing, but you do pay for it dearly in the "amenity charge" which is another $34+ ! For that I would expect better quality breakfast. The oatmeal was good. We did like the rooftop pool and the food we ordered there was delicious! The shisito peppers had a tasty citrusy crunchy salt/spice on them, and the burata pear with arugula, ariels, on a good bread was yummy.

Also due to my allergies, the cleaning staff made sure to vacuum my room thoroughly. Breakfast was great and the restaurant’s food was excellent! I enjoyed the bike ride! Thanks for everything, I will definitely return to stay at the Shade Hotel again!

- Sara (8/5): Great location, cute boutique hotel - Great location and the view from our balcony of the marina was fabulous. The swimming pool though small was lovely and relaxing watching the stunning sunset. The room size was big and spacious and the bathroom/shower was great. Complimentary rental of bicycles was a great touch and the refreshing welcome drink. The room was extremely humid. The bed sheets were always cold and damp because of the humidity making it so uncomfortable to sleep. The bed itself was too soft along with the pillows. We didn’t sleep well because of this and my husband caught a cold from the humidity and air con factored in together. We spoke to front desk on several occasions about this issue but when offered a different room on the same floor, we checked it out, the same problem of humidity. Disappointing as it could be whole lot better if they fixed this issue. We do understand that the hotel is in front of a marina so humidity can occur but they need to put dehumidifiers in the rooms or find another solution. When you’re paying 450 dollars a night for a room at least you want a decent night sleep and to feel comfortable. Breakfast though complimentary doesn’t offer much choice. Orange juice at least could be included instead of having to pay extra for it along with many other food and bev items. We really like this hotel, minus the prob of the room I mentioned. Staff could be more friendly. Only one of the front desk was approachable the others you had to greet them first, not the nicest welcome.

- Kelly (10/5): - Everything was great from check in with a welcome passionfruit margarita, to our spacious room, comfortable bed, gorgeous view! Lil hiccup with thinking the luggage was coming to our room when the valet unloaded the car. There is no bellhop service, wait for your luggage. Needed a few items and Enrique was more than helpful and accommodating. Continental breakfast was lacking on Tuesday morning. Overheard another guest who had been there several days mention it was lacking compared to previous days. Noticeable difference and improvement on Wednesday so I’m guessing it’s staffing difference as Tuesday morning staff member was focused on his break at 10am instead of replacing coffee with hot coffee, couldn’t be bothered with locating brown sugar for oatmeal and coffee cups were empty. He said he’d bring more eggs when others ran out though there were few remaining with an hour of service left. FYI.. Avocado toast is beyond delicious and a work of art! All in all… definitely would return!! 9.9!

Unfortunately many added fees (approximately $100 for mandatory valet parking and amenity fee). Unfortunately the gym does not meet minimum standards. The roof top pool was nice with amazing views although the loungers are showing their age. The daily happy hour is a great value with tasty options. The amenity fee based breakfast was of average quality and not worth $39.00 or even half the price. Overall I have mixed emotions due to cost versus value.

- Larisa (10/5): Excellent place for relaxing. - Very nice spacious modern room, with very comfortable beds. We had city view room, but it had partly view on the Marina and beautiful sunset. We had nice dinner in the restaurant. The pool on the roof has fantastic view on the sea and Marina. Breakfast was very poor.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice but expected better - Only stayed one night, but upgraded for the Marina view anyways. Did not like, that front door opened to a walkway that was “outside”. It did not feel secure and we had no indication when booking that this was how the hotel was set up. Valet service only when we arrived, but when we to returned from dinner at about 10p, the valet was closed and we had to self park, again not expected. Room was well appointed and spacious, but there was an air filter running when got in, and it smelled musty, like they were recovering from water damage/mildew. They shouldn’t be offering a room that is still in rehab. If we weren’t in a rush to make our dinner reservation, we would’ve requested a new room. I think this would be a great place for someone having a party, but not the most comfortable for a couple trying to get privacy and R&R.
