Guest Reviews
- Shannon (10/5): - Amazing place to be at.
- Jill (4/5): - In the middle of nowhere and extremely dated . Staff is excellent but just doesn’t have much to work with . In desperate need of a renovation .
- Brittany (10/5): - Super nice at desk. Super helpful our room super clean bed super comfy took us a few to figure out lights on lamps old fashion we loved it once we found out how to use them we had a good laugh cause we felt silly should definitely have instructions on them knob hard to find but loved our stay
- Peggu (10/5): - the stay at Buckhorn state resort was wonderful!!! lake viewwas wonderful, staff was exceptionally nice. food was good. rooms were clean . will be visiting again
- Misty (10/5): - Very beautiful setting
- Courtney (10/5): - This is a great place to go and really get away from everything. It was a quiet and peaceful stay. The nearest gas station or restaurants were about 30-35 minutes away because the road is so winding leading up to the resort. The staff was super nice and always helpful.
We were disappointed in was the conditions of the hiking trails. They are not kept clear and had many fallen trees on the trails we had to hike straight up mountains to get around. Also, the campus and hiking trails could both use more signs. There is no lodge sign at the lodge or any signs on the trails. This would've been appreciated as we ended up taking the wrong way on one of the trails from trying to guess which direction to go. Besides that, we very much appreciated it was pet friendly. Although charging an extra fee so you can hang out with your fur baby is just a scam in this country.
The property grounds were well taken care of and clean. Nice pool. But goodluck actually seeing the lake from your balcony, there is a line of trees by the lake that block the entire view. That was also disappointing. Overall, this was a great state park and we would return if they would take better care of the hiking trails.
- Connie (8/5): - phone doesn't work in 306
- carrie (10/5): - It was great!
- Bill (10/5): Family kayak trip - Was pleasantly surprised by the hospitality and cleanliness of the lodge. The room a little bit older smell to it. Room was clean and comfortable stay. I can not say enough about the restaurant on how delicious the food was. We kayak the lake and really enjoyed it. The scenery was so therapeutic. Can’t wait to come visit again. Thanks to the entire staff. Treated us like family.
- Whitney (10/5): - Waking up to the beach view and beautiful mountains was amazing
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful property right on the lake. Absolutely loved our stay here. Everything was wonderful. The hotel staff was so welcoming and friendly. The only negative feedback we have is the room we selected didn't have a fridge but maybe thats an option for a nicer room but yea that would be my only suggestion put atleast a mini fridge in each room.
- Angela (8/5): - Stayed here while visiting family in the area. Good value / quality for money. Balcony and view of the lake are very nice. Room decor is a bit old school but certainly better than Ohio state parks or national parks rooms. Facilities are clean which I appreciate. Our only complaints: 1) There is definitely a water problem in room 311. The musty small is very strong. 2) The mattresses are super old and lumpy. My mom fought hers all night to keep from rolling off to one side. Keep in mind as well that the lodge is somewhat isolated with a limited restaurant offering. Any other food options are 20-30 mins away. Bring your own food with you or hit up the R&F Dairy Bar not too far from the park entrance. I do not mean to sound negative in this place. You just need to know what you are getting yourself into. For lake access and decent accommodation, it is quite good.
- misty (10/5): - T
- Cody (10/5): - Beautiful view and very polite staff. The rooms where very clean. Very peaceful and quiet.
- Clayton (10/5): - Very nice, helpful staff beautiful scenery, great getaway even late fall after the pools are closed
- Christina (4/5): - Gross
- Sam (10/5): Hidden gem - The service was incredible, the views were absolutely stunning (especially in the morning as the fog lifted off the lake). The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable.
- David (6/5): - Property absolutely beautiful, bathrooms outdated, dinning option disappointing.
- Peggy (10/5): - The room had a lovely balcony to sit on and watch the sunset over the lake. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
- Robert (2/5): - Room had so much mold i couldn t breath. Was told the pool was open, it was half empty. The front deskngirl thought the park ranger locked the gate didnt realize the pool had no water in it.
- Rhonda (10/5): - Beautiful I will be going back
- Maria (4/5): If you want to go back to the 70s … this is the pc - This place was so outdated!! We felt like we went back in time to the 70s! TV didn’t work and there was no WiFi or phone service. Thank the Lord we were just there for 1 night. The grounds are beautiful but the place itself needs major renovation.
- Ryan (10/5): - Yes
- David (4/5): - Not so great
- Aaron (10/5): - Nice quiet place.
- bettina (4/5): - We reserved a king bed and to be told they did not have any left so we got a room with two very small beds that smelled like mildew. Everything stayed damp. Will not be back nor will I refer people here. Restaurant not very good.
- Greg (10/5): - The staff I met with was courteous and very helpful
- James (10/5): - Loved the peace and quiet.
- Kenny (10/5): - I had a fabulous time here at this property. The staff, was very accommodating. I met beautiful souled people. I admire, the classic 1970's style, layout! 10/10 highly recommend. I definitely will be back, next year!
- Valerie (10/5): - The resort was very clean and relaxing. A hidden gem that we was much more than we expected. We will definitely be back to stay!
- Renee (10/5): - I liked that breakfast was included. I didn't like that the breakfast wasn't available for Monday or Tuesday..pool was very nice and clean..the water was cold. Overall, very nice huge place my little dog was welcome and the room was nice..I would stay there again..
- Debra (10/5): - Spent 6 nights and LOVED everything about this spot. Rooms are cozy, all have a balcony, beds are sooo comfy. Highly recommended!!!
- Richard (10/5): Awesome State Park Lodge - We have never stayed at this State Park lodge before but we will go back. The architecture is similar to the other State Park lodges, the rustic nature wood and stone construction which is beautiful and amazing. The lodge may be a little dated but well maintained and the rooms have received some updates. The food at the lodge was fresh and hot and made to order. The view of Buckhorn Lake from the main dining room is amazing! The employees were very friendly and knowledgeable of the area and activities. While the pool was not in operation yet, they had resealed it and painted it and resealed the entire pool deck area. It looked brand new again. It will be ready for the opening of the pool season on Memorial Day weekend. The pool is well stocked with new lounges and chairs. Another plus is that every room at the lodge has a private balcony with spring rocking chairs and a spectacular view of the lake. We will be back.
- John (10/5): - Beautiful location. A gem of a 1970’s resort with that warm welcoming old school vacation atmosphere. Staff is very accommodating and there for every possible need. Price is way too low for the sheer beauty, location, cleanliness and quality of staff. This could easily be a 4 star resort with a little cash infusion. We loved our short stay and would recommend this state run resort to anyone who asks.
- Andrew (6/5): Beautiful Area Cabins in Poor Shape - Needs updating of cabins. Also be aware that many facilities are open only part-time or not at all based on the season. Cabins also need repair/replacement of window treatments -- curtains inoperable. Thus unable to see lake or let light in. Exhaust fan in bathroom broken and inoperable. TV operation is not good at all. Updating and improved controls needed.
- Denise (10/5): - Great place to stay for a long weekend
- Todd (8/5): - Very pleasant and quiet surroundings. Relaxing.
- Douglas (10/5): - The staff was exceptionally polite and efficient, good food in the free breakfast bar as well as the dining room
- Joesph (6/5): - No microwave. No fridge. Rooms needed.dusting.
- Denise (10/5): - A nice getaway trip, lodge room comfortable and very relaxing sitting on balcony looking at the lake.
- Barbie (8/5): - The view around the facility and the lake were gorgeous! Such a nice rustic feel. Very homey and warming environment. Excellence in service.
- Theresa (8/5): - A beautiful quiet and peaceful
- Vicki (10/5): Comfy and quiet getaway - First time visiting the area, the lodge was beautiful. It was so quite and nice, I had a balcony looking over the pool area which was very nice
- Debby (8/5): - The lodge had a little age on it, but the facility was clean, staff was friendly. Highly recommend for a laid back nostalgic stay.
- Shawn (8/5): Very no e - Very nice and clean
- John (6/5): - Nothing
- Verified traveler (6/5): Buckhorn lake - Other guest were smoking and drinking alcohol and cussing in the pool area around our grandkids. They were also smoking in the room next to us on the attached balcony. The room was to hot or to cold with high humidity in the room. The air vents were full of dust. There was no kitchen open for 3 days to get food. No one ever cleaned the room. The buffet they had one day was very over cooked with no flavor and very expensive. The breakfast was the same every day and the coffee was empty. People stomping above us all night. 3 years ago it was much better. It's 80 miles around trip to get a meal no fridge or microwave to us. People knocked on our door in the middle of the night and was giggling the door handle. It was very scary. The pet was 30 dollars extra and Saturday thru Wednesday was $500. It is a beautiful place if you don't mind the inconveniences of not having away to prepare food or driving a long way to get a meal.
- Autumn (10/5): - Beautiful place! Excellent staff! Very clean and comfortable! Highly recommend!!!
- Marcella (10/5): - Love the scenery
- Martin (10/5): - A beautiful setting. Well maintained property. Good breakfast. Comfortable room. Internet was not very accessible. Quite the windy, hilly road to get there.
- John (10/5): - Property is getting old and needs upgrading but the staff are very friendly and it was a pleasant stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cozy camp feel - The people were friendly and welcoming! We stayed for the weekend. Overall, it was a good stay. We were looking forward to a view of a lake only to find out there was no lake per se. The site is historic and it has a warm and cozy camping feeling. Continental breakfast is served. I wish the room came with a refrigerator and microwave. Besides that it is a great place to get away.
- Joshua (10/5): Southern hospitality - The service was especially great with all round. The hospitality was very great they went above amd beyond what me and my family was thinking
- Rhonda (10/5): Festival trip - We enjoyed our work weekend at the festival. Did get to spend much time at resort but what time we did was nice. View was breathtaking. They didn’t supply enough toilet paper but we survived.
- Harold W (10/5): Pretty Nice - Overall the stay was pretty nice. The room wasn't very clean but everything else was great. We found trash next to the beds and there were clothes left in one of the drawers but other than that it was very nice.
- Lisa (10/5): - Great place for relaxation
- Violeta (10/5): - Need little bit update, maybe small refrigerator
- Kimberly (10/5): - What beautiful views! Kentucky at its' finest everywhere you look--from your room, the lodge great room, or the dining room. It really is breath taking.
The room was very, very clean. We like softer mattresses, and these were perfect. Slept like babies.
The dining room is operated by the nicest lady, and her food is wonderful.
I would like to see them put a light out by the turn off for the lodge. It is a little hard to locate after dark.
Overall, had a great stay, and am really looking forward to staying here again.
- Sandra (10/5): - Beautiful, quaint, rustic lodge. Very clean, quiet, and well-maintained. Friendly, helpful staff. Only negative was that we were only able to stay one night because the facility was booked up the other night we wanted to stay!
- Carolyn (10/5): Relaxing getaway - The resort was beautiful. So peaceful and relaxing. Staff was great.
- Jose (10/5): - I love this place, quiet, peaceful with an amazing view!
- Patricia (8/5): - I liked the balcony lake view. We couldnt enjoy the buffet because it wS shut down because of Covid.
- Dick (8/5): - The location of the property was beautiful
- Amnuayporn (10/5): - Short overnight stay so did not have time to enjoy the area. Cleanliness outside in walkways and stairwells was bad. Windows were quite dirty. Slept well. Internet service was terrible.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The balcony was nice to be able to sit out and enjoy the view! The property and rooms were very dated and didn’t look like the pictures, they were very short staffed so finding someone to answer questions was an issue, the dining room was short staffed so only offered buffet and only 2 people working so refills took a long time as did paying and being seated, food overall though wasn’t to bad! WiFi sucked horribly so if you require service for emails and such you can forget that I couldn’t get a text call or email to go thru the entire stay. Overall though it was clean just dingy and dated! Very small room and bathroom there was no where to put anything when getting ready. No mini fridge or microwave! Tv is very small and only had 36 channels and half of them didn’t even come in clear so that was a bummer!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful view. Not a lot of things in the store for snacks, etc.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Area, location, and views was amazing. Cleanliness could be worked on. Its outdated and the rooms stink. Air conditioning couldnt keep up you sweated when you slept
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was secluded just what you want for a get away plus lots of options including dinning room and restaurant and activities
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful hotel overlooking the lake and mountains, no cell service, can't wait to go back in the fall!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nature
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I love all the KY State Parks. They are a gem!
- Ed (10/5): Nice place - This was my second stay here. I will be back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The loction of the lodge and the view if the lake , nothing I didnt like
- Verified traveler (10/5): Buckhorn State Resort Park - Great visit. Relaxing and professional, pleasant staff all around. Getting away from hustle and bustle was a great life experience. Reasonably priced as well. Lodge rooms and cottages for larger families. Great amenities.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a wonderful time will definitely make it a yearly trip ❤️
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We waited almost one hour for the check up , we arrived at "pm. We had to wait one hiour to be served at the restaurant, and to have a very poor meal... We had a Horrible night , the room bedise our was very very noisy, and nobody was able to ask to the kids to stop the mess. jumping and screaming till 3h30 AM. The park ranger knocked at our door to ask us why we were asking to slow down the noise at the room beside, but , no effects..
Soo.. one advice.. SKIP THIS PLACE ..!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful view, plenty of space, well kept grounds, very friendly and helpful staff. The room was just ok, but in this place you want to spend your time outdoors.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No breakfast due to no staff and the continental breakfast was not even worth walking downstairs for. I love this place and will return. Great unplugged getaway. Widh they would update it though
- Ed (10/5): Serenlty - I have never been to this particular resort before, but enjoyed the experience and will definitely return. The scenery is beautiful and quiet; the staff friendly and professional.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Drove a long way just to be told my room was given to someone else that they coildnt help me
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Beautiful views, very private and relaxing, great pool, grounds very well maintained. Wish there had been refrigerator or microwave in room...nearest place to get food about 35 minutes away. Restaurant on site only open for carry out Mondays and Tuesdays. Room smelled very strong of cleaning products...flared up my allergies a little. Nice stay tho
- John (10/5): Quiet beautiful place - Quiet, comfortable, clean. Just what we needed after a day on the bikes.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff was courteous and responded promptly to every request. We felt safe throughout the visit.
- Dennis (10/5): Very nice - I was there for the weekend. I’m building a cabin about an hour away but the rates were so good compared to local hotels I decided to stay there. It’s a bit dated at least in my room. But was nice. I was only there to shower and sleep. But I’ll continue to stay there while I’m building.
- Thomas (10/5): We will be back. - Wonderful setting, great helpful staff even in the midst of the pandemic and challenges it presents we were so well served.
- Teresa (10/5): Calm - Buckhorn Lake State Park was comfortable, calming, and relaxing. The fall colors were just appearing on the hillsides. A few boats came in as we watched. The dining hall was open, although we didn't eat there. Plan on going back next year.
- John (10/5): Buckhorn lake resort - I have visited this property 3 times always great.
