Guest Reviews
- runingirl (6/5): Good but... - We spent only a night here. The location is good, it’s far enough from the road not to hear the cars but it’s next to the railway (like most of the hotels/hostels at this part of the coast), but close enough to the beach that you can walk there barefoot with your surfboard.
I did like the place, they were nice with us, the rooms on the ground floor have a cute terrace, but they were hot & moist, the fan was noisy too, nonAC. I do understand that next to the ocean everything is humid and wet but the one I thing can’t forgive is the bathroom. It was dirty. Hair on the wall and melted soap pieces around the tap...
It’s a pity.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to the beach, jungle and surf! Great owner, very tasty food, overall really pleasant stay :)
- 359manur (10/5): Surf, eat, relax -> repeat - Good basic rooms,
U have a view to check the waves (1st and 2nd floor) , also from the restaurant .
4 min walk to lazy left and lazy right.
Booked one night, stayed eight.
Good breakfast.
Don't expect a 5 star hotel but you get all you need.
They usually do BBQ s on Sundays
And offering now daily yoga classes
- vonllama (10/5): Booked two nights, ended up staying nine nights #Midigamafamily - First of all, we booked two nights and ended up staying nine nights. This is how good the place felt immediately after arriving. The location is perfect with five different surf spots within 1,5 km radius. Midigama is not a party central, so if you are looking for a chill environment away from the masses, it is an excellent choice.
The rooms at Asanka have been recently renovated and they are affordable, clean and cozy with everything you need (table, coat rack, bed, mosquito net, etc). Rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor have amazing views and the hammocks on the 3rd floor offer you the perfect spot to gaze the sunset. A communal dinner is served every night and every Sunday there is a BBQ - the food is super good! The owners are beyond friendly and helpful and genuinely treat you like a part of their family. We had so many good talks with the owner family and rest of the guests - the place has such a good energy.
All in all, Asanka Surfhouse was the perfect place for us to stay and chill. Thanks again Asanka and the rest of the fam, thank you for welcoming us with open hearts. We will be back!
- SKTrotter (2/5): Horrible Ownership. They cancelled my booking as I was Sri Lankan. Very discriminating - They write to me through booking.com on the day of my checking in at 2 pm stating that they only rent rooms to “foreigners” I was shocked and I tried to contact them and their phone was switched off. Just horrible. Also I attached the email as proof as it’s hard to imagine that any service driven establishment would do such a thing 👎🏾
- 582pauli (2/5): Dirty, stuff broken, uninterested staff - They stopped cleaning a long time ago. Everything is dirty, sticky and a clean room means a bed made and floor swept. Broken chairs on the patio. Super thin matrass.
Plates, cutlery, glasses and tables in the restaurant al sticky, smelly and unclean. We where charged 4000 rps for a dirty room on the 2nd floor. Asanka and wife are nice and friendly. The rest of the staff is slow, doesn't really understand english and don't seem to care you are there. The rooms are almost on the railway track, but trains don't run at night fortunately.
I wish I could believe the reviews on bookingdotcom (there weren't to many on tripadvisor).
- KirstyWrightYoga (10/5): Amazing place!! - I went to Asanka Surf House planning to stay for one night... Six nights later and I finally pried myself away from there. Asanka and his family are absolutely beautiful - always up for a chat and keen to help you in any way that they can. The food is delicious, the views from the dining area are great and the rooms have everything you need. Plus the price is great!
Midigama is mostly good for surfers or people who want to relax in a place that isn't full of tourists. I much prefer it to nearby towns like Unawatuna, Weligama and Mirissa.
I really recommend this place to stay.
Thank you Asanka and family!
