Guest Reviews
- Speedboat20 (8/5): Best View And Location In Ormoc! - I stayed at Don Felipe Hotel many times in 2015. It was always my first choice for an ocean view room. The hotel has the Best View And Best Location of any hotel in Ormoc! Sitting on the balcony of your Ocean View room, eating a room service breakfast, is a real treat I enjoyed!
Don Felipe Hotel is conveniently located across the street from the ferry Pier and the bus terminal. You can catch the Ocean Jet ferry to Cebu, or the Super Cat to other island locations.
Rooms are large, with AC and mini-fridge. Drop you Laundry at the front desk, as Laundry service is available at very low cost.
Go next door to Lorenzo's Cafe and sit on the patio for a pleasant dining experience.
Mercury Drug is located right behind the hotel, for all your toiletries, bottled water, and snacks.
McDonald's is in walking distance, several blocks away, and Jollibee's is a few blocks farther. You need to get a tricycle to go to Gaisano Shopping Center.
Don Felipe is an older hotel that could use some upgrades.
In an ocean view room, you will experience some traffic noise. For a quieter stay, try a City View room. But then there's no view!
They also have some very cheap rooms in an additional wing on the first floor. I stayed in one of these rooms when the hotel was full, and no ocean view rooms were available. These rooms are small and not recommended, but they suffice if you just need a place to sleep.
I always enjoyed my stay at Don Felipe, and it is still my number one choice to stay in Ormoc, because of the view and the convenient location.
- Ali (4/5): - No any service in room even cattle for hot water and shows in booking with breakfast but they refuse also no breakfast fast buffet it has 2 elevator but only 1 working they reception area no ac too hot
- Ali (4/5): - Vary old no proper management and maintenance no any single service in room even kettle for hot water not available stair case smell so bad no AC in reception area it’s like no oxygen no any even ventilation in reception area
- Silas (6/5): - Old hotel with old rooms but nice view to the ocean.
- chres0 (2/5): Please Check all your rooms - Sorry to tell this, I was very upset about the bed sheet, it has blood stains . Please check all your vacant rooms and change them and do clean the bed sheets and pillows very well because the white color isn't white and your blanket has a holes. Please clean the windows, many bird poops and clean the Aircon please. It made a person sick because of the smelly air.
- William (10/5): Old Hotel, But Worth the Wonderful View - This is an old hotel, but glad I stayed. Had a front room, stunning view from the 5th floor out into the ocean. The view is even while sitting on the bed. Note: when you come out of the hotel, go right, past the pier, to where the six giant markets are, find the seafood, we bought lobster, crab, shrimp, then walk back the opposite direction, past the hotel, keep walking till you see all the little shops cooking food, they will cook your seafood for a very small price. There are about 20 long tables, with 20 chairs each, will a complete water view.
- 584maryannv (2/5): Dont stay there, find other places to stay not worth any penny😵old and smelly - This hotel is the heart of Ormoc, i love it where everything so close, but yet im sorry to say; that this hotel doesnt offer any good atmosphere. Doesnt worth any price for what we paid, bad wifi, which is almost nothing at all. Stock upp toilette, smells horrible! So bad shower aswell 😵im sorry, im very upset! Come on! Do some change! Have a very fresh hotel and clean rooms and everything! This hotel needs a totaly make over!!! Even at the restaurant aswell.
- Passport58368905056 (2/5): Disappointing - Very tired and old hotel, way past it's use by date .the hotel "restaurant "was dingy and smelly food was barely edable,no cold drinks only water.
The hallway to the rooms was littered with building materials and rubbish, the room we had was smelly and grubby.
- Janet (10/5): Close to the White House - This property is a great location, close to many major sites especially the White House. It’s reasonable in pricing, the breakfast is a plus.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very poor internet connection, aircon very noise.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location, very accessible & friendly staffs.
- William (8/5): Great Place to stay, see you next year. - Very nice place, i have been there 3 times and will be going back. Family friendly and suitable for business meeting and events.
- thompsen-11 (6/5): Unplanned stay due to trip confusion. - All is well as a budget hotel;nice view, big room,ac is working well, shower and toilet is good and spacious, close to pier and other land transport to go around the city and out but we have a dirty rug in the toilet 😬.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location is very comfortable. The hotel staffs were friendly. The hotel is very accessible to port, downtown, and route to towns. The hotel needs upgrading, however it is very clean. Their cafe has the best brewed coffee in whole Ormoc literary. Not expensive. Overall, I had a gread stay.
Thanks!
Antonia
- Khaladzki (8/5): Quite old but still good - No nonsense hotel, accommodating staff, rooms are maintained properly and does not smell old. The hallways are just a bit creepy but overall still a good experience. Complimentary breakfast has at least 5 choices of silog meals.
- NigeClem (8/5): With an ocean view always restful - Conveniently placed with the port just 2 minutes walk away, terminal even closer.
This hotel is in need of some modernisation but is still very comfortable and reasonably priced.
Service is prompt and the restaurant has a wide menu serving tasty, full meals.
We are regulars here as the Ocean view rooms are commodious and comfortable.
- Rad (4/5): - Place is rundown. Compare to 2 years ago it’s just going down
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Check-in and check-out was quick and hassle free. The personnel who assisted me was polite and hospitable as well as the front desk personnel. Location is perfect as it is near establishments and food stalls as well as a park. Specifically chose this hotel for its nice location, accessibility, and view. Maybe just needs to add a complimentary drinking water. Overall, my stay was good. 👍
- Garry (10/5): - The property location is good the employee was excellent and the food their was good i stayed there every year i go there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The view was great including the ocean, the coloured fountain at night. The breakfast in the coffee shop was also good. There was appropriate security at the door. The staff were friendly and helpful particularly organising our transfers from and to Tacloban airport. The noise from the bus station across the road was a bit annoying. The wifi was down but no fault of Don Filipe Hotel. A great stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): Sad Experience - The restaurant management needs improvement. There was one morning when we wanted to have an early breakfast. We were actually the ones who literally opened the resto. Meaning, we were there at 6 am when the resto was supposed to be open already but the lights were not yet on. Anyway, we made our order of simply having pancakes for breakfast. It is sad to note that after 40 minutes we still did not have our pancakes. The staff were busy getting orders for room service and as other people were coming in, they entertained their orders. We did follow up at least 3 times and they said that it was coming. It did not come. They said another 15 minutes. When we said that we wanted to cancel our orders, one plate of pancakes came out but we were determined to leave since we will be late for our trip to another municipality. The management should realize that they need to follow the principle of " first in, first out". Meaning, they should handle the first order before the next order making sure that it is delivered to the customer on the right time. One thing more, they did not say how long it will take to cook the pancakes. It does not take an hour to cook one, does it?
- Virg (6/5): - Good location with sea view in superior deluxe rooms.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Old building. Open late entertainments near by. Cheap prices everywhere.
- Steven (8/5): - Stayed here many times. Great location. Comfortable rooms but very dated. WiFi is poor. Food in restaurant is very good. Staff are friendly and accommodating. It’s a decent hotel for the price you pay. Would recommend for any traveller
- Vicky (8/5): 5* - Everything was good. Thank you to Room service team and housekeeping team for the quick and efficient service. Staff are friendly and attentive. Delicious food and bev. Big room, comfy bed and pillows. Accessible location. Just a bit push of facilities and amenities, its deserve as 5* hotel.
- Cres (8/5): - location, location, location
nice to have the room facing the ocean, perfect
- Hawley (8/5): Older hotel, but still comfortable - Don Felipe is an older hotel that I also used 20+ years ago. Though older, it still was a comfortable place to stay and suitable for those needing to hop on a ship since it is walking distance to the port. The restaurant within the hotel had amazing food.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - front desk does not answer the phone promptly. ring up to10 x before someone will answer the phone.
- Patrick (8/5): Good for the money - Not a bad hotel but needs some updating as it is beginning to show its age. Very friendly staff and great location near the pier. Close to entertainment and some great restaurants.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Close to downtown and in front of the ocean which makes it a bit nicer
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Proximity to terminal and port.......................
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Helpful staff & room service! Fairly clean rooms. Bad things is double needs only.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the location, beautiful view and close to everything. Lovely staff. Good rooms.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's just a walk away from the port area. Very accessible to food chains and convenience store. Very near the plaza, museum, food park, and coffee shop.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Good view, otherwise poor
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It is an older hotel with the deferred maintenance becoming very obvious. I was put on the street side and the noise was very loud. It is convenient located to the terminal. I was able to walk there with my luggage. It is okay to stay there but there is nothing no drinking water, or bathroom amenities only paper thin bar of soap. But again I really liked the location and the staff was so very helpful
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This is an old hotel that looks like it has been renovated piecemeal. There are lots of strange parts, like the fake granite plastic walls and bolted-on control panels for the elevators. The bathroom was in very good condition, but the doors look like they are from the 70s. The cleaning staff appears less than professional. Their break room on the fourth floor can be seen and they leave their dirty dishes around. I think some parts of the hotel might be abandoned. Everything worked fine, the hotel just seems to be kept up to a very minimal level.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very good location/Nice stay` - Nice Stay
- Dup0ntT (4/5): Ideal location, little comfort, great restaurant staff and food - Not the greatest but the best for the area. Cheap enough not to complain. Bad wifi connection in room. Friendly staff and view of the harbor from across the street. I suggest the cafe next door for coffee and pastries.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We always enjoy our stay, we like staying here because it’s close to transportation
- Mercia (8/5): Don Felipe Hotel - Staff very cheerful and helpful. Hotel very convenient location to church, park, market, terminals. There is no wifi in the room. Building old and needs to be upgraded.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Location - Right by the pier and bus terminal, it is in a perfectly central place. Cross the road to enjoy the "plaza" (the seafront area) and walk down to the BBQ stalls. The hotel is adequate for your needs - nothing outstanding, but good enough for Ormoc.
- R6159PAlaurieh (6/5): Old but Reasonable - Handy to ferry! Breakfast was good. Disappointed with wifi! Modem was right outside door but speed was bordering on useless if it connected at all. Very patchy. Otherwise comfortable bed and it was nice to have a balcony and view out over the water.
- Eugene Patrick (6/5): Business Trip - Hotel is quite old. Bathroom, at least needs to be updated. The location is ok. There are good restaurants near by.
- ian (8/5): My stay - This hotel has an eccellent location 2 min walk to centre of town, ferry terminal and transport depot, hotel needs renovating but
For the price it’s good, good shower, superior
Rooms have a good sea view room had just
The basic amenities , bed were comfortable I would stay again.
- Anthony (8/5): Don phillipe - Didn't spend much time but location was great andhotel good value
- L (10/5): - Only bad part was a truck horn 2x in the middle of the night. Weak wifi. Stopped working in the rooms in the morning. Good money worth while I was there and it was beside the fastcat and all shops.
- Jose Mari (8/5): Convenient & comfortable stay in Ormoc City - Good location and helpful staff
- Ky (8/5): - The location is perfect. Near to the beach, terminals, top restaurants, and plaza. The hotel condition is pleasing as well.
- KanwarDeep (6/5): Comfortable hotel - Hotel is old but well kept. Spacious room and bath. Clean. Good aircon. Has elevator. Has a restaurant and food is good and more than sufficient quantity. Staff is nice and friendly. It’s overlooking the harbour and next to the transport terminal. Good location.
- Pioneer144574 (8/5): Located just across from the ferry in easy walking distance - This is my 1st stay at the Don Filipe hotel. It is a really nice hotel that is convenient to the ferry and the van transport hall. The rooms are clean and large. The WiFi I am told is ok. The bed was Queen sized and there was a refrigerator in the room. The bathroom was ok. Like everything in the Philippines, it is dated. My room had a really nice balcony that overlooked the ocean. The place is only a block away from a lot of restaurants and the city's Barbeque pavilion so I generally take a walk and eat elsewhere. It is hard to find a nice hotel in Ormoc. There are only 3 nice places. This is the most reasonably priced of the three.
- Abdul-Rahman (4/5): Old hotels - Old hotel not do good and not very clean
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I will book again in the same hotel because of the convenience to transport, food and shops.
- melanie (10/5): Close to the ferry and bus terminal - Hotel Don Felipe is quite an old hotel so it does have a very rustic vibe. The staff were really lovely and helpful.
Rooms were made up almost immediately after you left your room. Room service is available and there is a cafe in the main lobby which you can order from and have your food brought up to you.
As the hotel is quite old, the furnishings were a little bit out dated but our stay was really pleasant as we had everything we needed.
- Reymond Oliver (10/5): Perfect hotel for a short business trip - Excellent location and good view of the ocean.
- 538jj (8/5): Nice and reasonable hotel just across from ferry. - THe Don Filipe hotel is a really nice hotel that is damned convenient. It is right downtown and walking distance to the ferry. The rooms are clean and large. The WiFi I am told is spotty but I was on the 6th floor which, I guess is the nicest, and I could stream Netflix. I liked the room and stayed there for my wedding. The bed was Queen sized and there was a refrigerator in the room. The bathroom was nice.
Like everything in the Philippines, it is dated. My room had a really nice balcony that overlooked the ocean. The breakfasts are nice but to be honest, this place is only a block away from a lot of restaurants and the city's Barbeque pavilion so I generally take a walk and eat elsewhere.
It is hard to find a nice hotel in Ormoc. There are only 3 nice places. This is the most reasonably priced of the three. I stay here for most visits.
- Atty (6/5): - The place was nice but i booked a room fpr 3 persons; supposed to have 1 queensize bed and 1 single bed, but we were given a room with 2 single beds with the staff saying that they did not know we were doing a late check-in, when i specifically wrote an additional message about it. Other than that, the place is good and clean and the location is great coz its right near the pier.
- Marivic (10/5): Excellent - Very much happy of stay!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent location with a killer ocean view. The hotel staff from front desk to housekeeping were friendly and helpful.
- DeniesA1 (8/5): Decent Place nothing Fancy... - Got a room with a view of the sea. Old building but with clean, fresh, and crisp bed. Clean toilet as well. Reception people are ok but the guards are better as they greet and would smile.Near the port and Near everything! Will definitely stay in this hotel again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Don felipe - It's ok for couple of nights. The area very cruded, noisy, and plutted.
- Rodney (6/5): could be great - I enjoyed my stay at the Don Felipe, but only because I knew to book a room with ocean views. It was really nice to look out over the town fountain and beyond to the bay. Special!
Unfortunately, the hotel's facilities are not so good. It seems that not one peso has ever been spent on maintenance. It's a real shame because this could be a great hotel. It's a management issue. The staff are friendly and do their best to provide good service.
- Ramdall (10/5): Best of Ormoc - Not a Hilton or Radisson inabig city but this is a a classic old hotel that should be on any Philippine travel list. Perhaps a new 5 star will be built but the rooms will cost a lot more too.
- Simonjdow (8/5): Great Location, location, location - Booked this hotel after skimming a few reviews here with a plan for a quick overnight stay before moving on. I stayed 3 nights in the end and enjoyed this hotel as much as any I’ve stayed at in the Philippines. If only they would upgrade their wifi it would’ve got and easy 5 from me. Room with a balcony view over the bay. Comfortable bed, cold air, great shower. Staff helpful and friendly. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
- BB123456789 (6/5): Location is fantastic. - Average hotel, room clean enough, no kettle & you must ask for drinking water in the room.. Fridge, A/C, TV all good, wi-fi OK., bit overpriced but the view is worth it.. The restaurant is also average, food & service is only OK.. pity more effort is not made because the potential for a better experience seems simple. Fast, attentative service would help..
- cbellcc (8/5): Central, clean and friendly - Was recommended by frequent expat residents as nice place to stay in transit.
Staff were courteous and helpful. Rooms were neat and clean.
All-round a good experience and would certainly stay again.
Central location and undercover car park a bonus.
- jakeg485 (6/5): Nothing Fancy, but Not Bad for the Philippines - Spent 2 nights in Don Felipe in late October, 2017. It is a basic, no-frills hotel that delivers a safe, clean place to lay your head at night for a very reasonable price. The building is lovely (it has an old-world Spanish feel to the architecture), and it is situated right along the water near the Port of Ormoc (easily within walking distance if you come in on one of the ferries). I highly recommend the oceanfront view...stepping out on your balcony for sunrise or sunset is incredible! The staff was very polite and easy to work with, and they had a...bellhop(?) that took my fiancee, myself, and our luggage to our room. The temperature was very hot when we were there, so we were glad to have an Air Conditioning unit in our room! There was plenty of taxi traffic outside the hotel as well, so we had no problems getting a taxi (Ormoc uses Tricycles--motorcycles with special side cars--for their taxis). There are also quite a few restaurants (including a McDonald's) within short walking distance of the hotel (which also appeared to have its own restaurant, though we never went in there).
A couple things to keep in mind that may bother Westerners:
1) They don't offer washcloths for bathing, only a bath towel.
2) Their WIFI was VERY spotty in our room (end of the hall on the 4th floor). Most of the time we couldn't connect and when we could, it was SLOW and disconnected regularly.
3) Many of the rooms have 2 twin beds. The "bellhop" who took our luggage up happily pushed the 2 beds together to give us a larger bed.
These are small gripes and really weren't an issue for us (well, except for the WIFI issues), but I'm just letting you know before you book there.
We were pleased with our stay at the Don Felipe and we will definitely stay there again the next time we are in Ormoc!
- stigMAnd (6/5): Good option in Ormoc - Stayed here one night in July 2017. Had 3 different rooms..all pretty similar.
First impression was great, very trustful the reception. No deposit or ID needed…just pay when you leave! Elevators didn’t work at time of visit..and sure it looks old in places..but we felt it was actually kinda charmful..small "balcony" even. Internet didn’t work so well the first night ..had to stand in the hallway to get reception..but come morning it was working full speed in the room as well..
You can’t beat this hotel for location..so if you are spending a night in Ormoc city..might as well stay here..we will when we revisit.
- SaranganiDiver (4/5): Tired hotel needs major cash injection - We were in Ormoc for the first time, for a needed visit to Ford Ormoc.
The Good:
Great location on seafront, just beside the Port, bus and van terminals. Walking distance to shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Plenty of tricycles available. Not as noisy as you might expect. Linen was fresh enough.
The Bad:
Drab hallways and drab tired rooms. Just two thin pillows. No coffee maker. Poor toilet amenities Some signs of minor maintenance, but a major refurbishment is needed.
The Ugly:
A 2nd wing was added, possibly in it's heyday, that ruins the outlook for half the rooms in the original wing. The 2nd wing is as drab as the original. Charged Ps50 for a broken glass.
Tip:
Seafront superior room is worth the little extra charge.

- markcQ8412LM (8/5): Loving the stay! - Cozy place to stay with the City's Bay in view. Experienced a day with a scintillating view over the city. My taste buds was fed by a variety of oriental dish served from friendly hotel crew. Recommending this to y'all!
