Guest Reviews
- Paul (10/5): - 5 star food and 5 star staff
- Stuart (6/5): - Staff are excellent and very friendly. Stayed in the Bond room, was ok but a bit tacky. Bathroom ok but not at the rating of 5 star. Food was quite expensive for what it was. Parking is difficult and fills very quickly Due to layout and way people park.
- Pauline (8/5): Post lockdown break - Excellent location, bedroom very spacious and clean, food excellent. The overall experience was enjoyable
- Vivienne (6/5): - Not exactly the type of room I expected for my wedding anniversary (the Heifer Room) but the food in the restaurant is amazing!
- Stephen (10/5): A great one night stop - Lovely boutique hotel and gastro pub with plenty of parking. Very friendly staff throughout. Choice of themed rooms, each seemed to have their own unique features. The dinner and breakfast the next day were excellent. Highly recommended.
- Lesley-Anne (10/5): - The themed rooms are a must, we stayed in the chocolate room and were spoilt with treats. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday boy was given a balloon, beer and card, to make the event more special. The staff were friendly. The tasting menu was delicious and substantial. The breakfast was a must and worth staying over for. The little extra, the home made granola, yoghurt with fruit compote were an unexpected delight. We left with a homemade chilli jam.
- Martin (10/5): Yorkshire Dales - Great Hotel good size rooms with lovely cosy traditional bar area, offering top class food.
- Heather (10/5): Overnight with dinner - Great stay, fabulous food, staff very friendly and efficient.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - Room was lovely, the food excellent and the location superb
- Verified traveler (4/5): - When I booked the room on Hotels.com web site I paid for a Delux room like the picture. Unfortunately was given the James Bond themed room, awful. Bed very uncomfortable & not long enough. I will stay again but not in that room
- Patricia (8/5): Birthday - Excellent food well impressed
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A great hotel, providing great food with friendly service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - would like earlier breakfast to permit more time touring the region
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super room food was excellent staff some of the best you will ever come across nothing too much trouble .
Had a wonderful stay many thanks to all .
- Mike (10/5): Top quality with a family-friendly feel - We had a superb time at our recent family reunion - the staff were welcoming and really friendly, the accommodation was very comfortable with a few extra touches that made the stay memorable, and the food was excellent - both the evening meal and the breakfast. Highly recommended and will be returning for sure!
- William (10/5): Unique! - As always an amazing stay. Great food lovely location! Car park too small for amount of guests.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - 2nd time we have stayed here absolutely love this place the restaurant 1st class and the staff all go the extra mile
Will return again next year
- Verified traveler (8/5): - the food was outstanding, the service in the resteraunt was friendly and very efficient.
I had the smallest room in the hotel as i was a single traveller and it was adequate--the other rooms for double occupancy looked very good.
- Christopher (10/5): Honeymoon Getaway - When we arrived we were treated to an amazing upgrade to the champagne room and gifts free of charge to celebrate getting married. Amazing food, service and everything in between. We’ve been before and will continue to come again! Just gets better and better!
- David (8/5): Leyburn lounging 😀🍻 - Great reception after long drive. Lovely sunny beer garden to wind down in.
Stayed in the Chocolate Room which was a treat and so it was when opening a drawer to find it full of chocolate bars!!
Food was good and plentiful
- Verified traveler (8/5): Superb supper with friends. - We had two lovely nights at the Hefier again excellent food, great service and very warm welcome.Staff very friendly and helpful!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful service all good would revisit hgggggggggg

Great location
After regular visits to the dales this is our first time in the wh
We will return
- Christina (10/5): Dog friendly hotel - Good place to stay. Very dog friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room was perfect and the attention to detail was to be commended. Loved the food. The best oysters I've had in years. Excellent breakfast despite thinking the night before that i would never eat again. Friendly helpful staff. All in all a great stay and hope to be back in the not too distant future
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quick Stay - Popped in again whilst on a business trip to the area. Very good as always, the restaurant here is really top-notch!
- Alan (6/5): - We enjoyed our stay at the Wensleydale Heifer, where the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. However our room a Junior Suite was well appointed and clean but had a very bad smell of cooking at all times, to the point that our clothes smelt when we got home.
- Martin (10/5): Heifer - Excellent stay as always
- declan (10/5): - excellent hotel which catered for all our needs. Food and accommodation were first class.
- Gary (10/5): Great Hotel in the Yorkshire Dales. - Was recommended this hotel by my son. The staff were great and nothing was to much to help the guests.
We stayed in the Black Sheep room. A great and quirky room.
- Patricia (10/5): Outstanding Gem in the Dales - Having read all the reviews my friend and I were so excited to be staying for two nights. We thought we would try somewhere different to our favorite place at Bolton Abbey and went with high expectations. Absolutely top class in EVERY respect. Outstanding friendly, helpful, but also kind staff, a real team feel and a team who are clearly happy and proud to work there. Great to have air con in the dining room and also to have options to sit out in the fantastic weather to eat and drink. Excellent food - extensive menu catering for all tastes. Wish we could have stayed longer. I had the James Bond room which was tasteful and good humored. So many little touches - having never met Alexa before having her in my room was a great way to try it out. Brilliant to find another outstanding hotel in the beautiful Dales. I then traveled on for a night at another alleged 'excellent' place but was very disappointed - they could learn a lot from the WH!
- John (8/5): Great place! - wonderful people at the Wensleydale Heifer. wonderful restaurant with a great breakfast and just as good place for evening dinner. Well situated for hiking in the Dales or touring the area. A small nit: it would be nice to have a pub-like sitting area to enjoy a beer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Wensleydale hotel - We had a really nice stay at the hotel. The only issue was the level of noise from the kitchen below. Our room was directly above so if we came back we would look to say in a different restaurant om
- Sandra (8/5): 1 night stay in Chocolate Room - We stayed in the Chocolate Room which was very comfortable but the cleaning in the bathroom wasn't great and had to ask for the toilet roll which had been placed on top of a dirty toilet brush to be removed together with the offending toilet brush.
Dinner good in the restaurant but portions are huge. Maybe better to reduce portion sizes and prices a bit? Disappointing that the local Wensleydale Cheese does not feature in the menu or, very surprisingly, on the cheese board.
Breakfast was a very high standard.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A LOVELY LITTLE FIND - It was a really good stay. The staff and condition of the hotel was excellent and the food was very good. Our only down side was that our room (and presumably most of the rooms) was over the kitchen/restaurant and the continuous noise of the door slamming from restaurant to kitchen was really annoying after a while.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff very helpful and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel to friends who want a special meal in a hotel with interesting and luxurious rooms.
- Christopher (10/5): - Lovely hotel in a lovely location. Food was amazing. We were made to feel so comfortable
- Margaret (10/5): Chocolate Heaven - Stayed in the gorgeous Chocolate Room - Chocolate Galore!!! Fabulous food and service. Will definitely be going back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - very convenient for touring the upper dales.
the food was excellent and the bed very comfortable.
hotel staff very friendly and helpful
- shopgirl18 (8/5): Great food and a varied fish menu - Very good welcome, friendly staff, some of the waiting staff not too interactive in the restaurant but some were very young.
- Samantha (8/5): Gorgeous place - Our room I think was definately one of the smaller ones, but it was lovely and very nice decor, dog friendly, and the food was to die for. We plan to stay again in one of the suites.Loved having an Alexa in the room.
- James (10/5): A lovely couple of days. - Very friendly atmosphere. Excellent, cheerful service and superb food. The breakfast is one of the best ever especially the fresh fruit followed by a mammoth fry-up!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Unique, cosy and great food. - Rooms are all individual in theme, ours was a day at the races theme with complimentary sherry and some lovely meringue desserts on arrival. All members of staff were so friendly! We ate in the restaurant which was great, just sad I couldn’t manage a dessert!
- Sandra (10/5): - Lovely stay excellent food and service will definitely return
- Geoffrey (10/5): One night in the Dales - Enjoyable
- John (10/5): Another excellent stay at The Wensleydale Heifer - We celebrated my wife's birthday here. All of the staff were friendly and efficient, the four poster themed room was excellent and the food lived up to our expectations. My wife left her electric toothbrush behind and it was posted on to us, declining my offer to refund the postage.
- David (10/5): Great location in the Dales. - Our second visit did not disappoint. We were celebrating our 49 th Anniversary and the rose and greeting card were a very kind gesture.
Wonderful food and excellent staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room was very comfortable with plenty of complimentary tea , coffee and water. Also had a free bottle of beer and a couple of small cakes.
Service was good and the food excellent , if relatively expensive.
Bar area had a roaring fire and was ideal for a pre dinner drink. However it was usually full and the seating plan offered little privacy so we went straight in to dinner.
- Jane (10/5): Wonderful hotel in the Yorkshire Dales - This is probably the 9th or 10th time we have stayed at the Heifer and each time in a different room. The staff are attentive, the rooms are spotless and the food is fantastic. Even managed to take home some of their lovely granola so still enjoying the experience.
- Mark (10/5): Great Hotel with outstanding restaurant - Stayed 4 nights. Rooms are good, each is themed, I stayed in the James Herriot room. Staff are extremely helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
Restaurant is popular and needs to be pre-booked, some might think it a bit pricey but the excellent quality of the food and wine reflects this. I highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again when visiting North Yorkshire.
