Guest Reviews
- David (8/5): I plan to stay here for my next trip to your city. -
- Marla (10/5): - Linens were the best How cold the room was; a space heater was provided, which I did need when I showered.
- Nading (5/5): Good for the price! - Price. Could not control the room temperature.
- Bownes (10/5): -
- Karla (8/5): - The owner was very friendly and helpful. The bed was so comfortable. More pillows.
- david (7/5): -
- Troy (10/5): - Owner is super nice.
- Louis (9/5): Clean and reasonably priced. - It’s a 1950s motor inn so you can back your truck up to the door to unload.
The property is clean and a good value.
- William (5/5): -
- Joseph (6/5): -
- Deborah (1/5): disgusting not be listed with any booking service and no cancellation policy even though it - nothing two photos and nothing like pictured 1950 hotel dirty 8x10 carpet throwed down on top of room size carpet picture posted showed two king size beds like you would see in in chain hotel everything paid 204.00 and did not stay dirty nasty and rude care taker need to folowup and see pictures and then check up never had problem with booking.com but will never use them again
- Paul (9/5): We had a pleasant night stay, and the bed was very comfortable. - We had to change rooms, but the manager was terrific in relocating us quickly and meeting our needs. He was very pleasant and accommodating, and we enjoyed our stay there. We thought the staff and manager were terrific.
- RONALD (2/5): Had we known these issues, we would have never booked this; we don’t recommend anyone staying in this hotel unless you c - The location was okay. The room lacked some basic supplies, such as Kleenex, extra towels and sufficient cups for coffee and hot drinks. There were no hot teas or decaf coffee.
The phone did not work . It could not Even be plugged in.
They were not enough outlets, so the clock couldn’t work and you had to unplug things to plug others in
The hairdryer was hanging loosely on the drywall with one screw, but could not be plugged in so any person using it would have to remove it from the wall and place it by the sink and plug it into the wall. Safety issue.
The heat and AC is controlled from the office so the room became hot at night and we had to open the door to let cool air in.
It was very difficult to contact the office because the man was seldom at the desk.
It was advertised on a local brochure that they had breakfast included, but it was not.
The outside of the hotel was unkept. Piles of leaves had built up around our door and all around the hotel.
- Anna (4/5): - No breakfast, space heater, fridge froze food. There was coffee in room and convenient location to what I was doing
- Stephanie (5/5): Cheap place to lay your head. - It was the cheapest decently rated motel available. They had vacancies during the dates I needed to stay. I was fairly clean compared to other cheap motels in Abilene. The fact that they wouldn't give me a printed receipt stated that the booking.com payment should be good enough. Even though it specifically states at the bottom of the booking.com statement that it is NOT an official receipt. We will not be using this motel again for business stays.
- Christa (8/5): Great -
- Robin (7/5): - Gentlemen checking us in was very nice. Was a little hard to find in the dark as their sign wasn't working. The toilet made a ringing noise when flushed.
- Philip Webster (8/5): Abilene hasn't got a lot of choice and it's definitely safe so I would stay here again - Very friendly staff, quiet motel, safe location. Ultimately those make this a good place to consider. The heater was good. Microwave and fridge are included. It's very old. There is no AC. I came when it was cold so it didn't bother me but if I came in the summer I think that would be a bigger issue. The facilities work but are very old. the sink for example has seen better days - but as I said it works.
- ritch (8/5): Nice place for the cost. -
- Heather (9/5): Cute and comfy with great customer service. - Great location!! The owner keeps check in fast and easy. The rooms are not modern, but comfy and clean! The owner is very friendly and very accomidating if you have a question or issue. We will continue to stay here in the future. I wish they had a commercial ice maker. The owner is happy to get you ice at the front desk but it isn't a lot and we don't feel comfortable going back multiple times for ice. We go through a lot of ice too when we travel for our snacks and drinks.
- Tad (8/5): -
- Kelly (9/5): I would definitely stay there again. - Up keep was excellent! Clean and manicured. Manager and staff went out of their way to help us! Tub needs a little TLC
- Sara (6/5): - The motel is an older property, but well-kept. My room was clean, no weird/funky smells, and the bed was very comfy. As a solo female traveler, I was a bit apprehensive. However, Howie, the owner, was so nice and friendly and made me feel very at ease. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.
- Dorothy (7/5): Old classic motel but was what we needed. Pet fee just $10. - You get to drive through some of the old beautiful neighborhoods to get here. Very quiet neighborhood. Only complaint: no ice machine.
- Geoffrey (6/5): - I appreciated the positive nature of the owner and his willingness to answer my questions and to assure I had as good stay. The facilities are a little tired and in need of an upgrade, but everything worked as it should, the room was pretty clean, and the rates were the fairest around. Plus if you like to walk, you can access many of Abilene’s coolest spots from the Diamond Motel. I would definitely stay here again. I usually stay at hotels near I70, but there’s not a lot to walk to from there. There is good coffee to be had at the gas station across the street from the Diamond Motel.
- Dolores (7/5): -
- Susan (9/5): Nice, quiet, but not far off the interstate. - The breakfast is ample and appears to be homemade! Could use an update for the bathrooms in the hotel rooms.
- Robin (8/5): The man at front desk was very nice we would come back again.. - It was close to everything. Was very good price The room was small and couldn’t control ac
- Sheri (4/5): - The room was marginally clean. There were no towels, no soap. They provided coffee cups and creamer but no coffee. The refrigerator was dirty.
- Marian (2/5): - The refrigerator got cold and it had a small freezer compartment
Operator had to leave so left a note and phone number on door so we could call and be given directions for room access since we arrived after 8 pm Old motel so did not expect perfection, but it was not clean. There was a bed side lamp, but no outlet to plug it in. Found old tape and QTip behind nightstand when lookin
g for plug in. Dust on coffee maker, clock. Some hair on shower. Duvet blanket had large hole and was very thin. Black grease stain on hand towel. Worn thin grayish wash cloths. Toilet screeched loudly when flushed. Areas of tile and carpet did not appear clean.
- John (7/5): - Quaint old school motel Improve cleanliness in sheets, etc
- John (2/5): -
- Christopher (3/5): The bed was was comfortable as expected. - The location was close to the Eisenhower Museum. My wife noticed whisker hair in the sink. This was before we used it. The remote control for the TV did not work. Once we turned on the faucet to shower, the faucet would not turn off and we had to inform the individual managing the motel.
- Todd (8/5): -
- Todd (9/5): -
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional - Clean large room. Staff was very friendly
- Alexandra (4/5): Booking.com only showed that the city had two hotels, there are others... - The room was air conditioned nicely as it was hot and humid day in Abilene. The overall vibe of the room was meh. Bathroom had a dead spider and a few other bugs. Linens were just okay.
- Phillip (4/5): Disappointing -
- William (5/5): Passable - First time I had a room with a king bed and a queen bed. Some of the hotels in town were a lot more expensive. There were stains on the sheets of one bed. One of the plastic cups seemed damaged.
- Schweitzers (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janet (4/5): I am ok with a dated motel, but it MUST be clean. - Bed seemed comfortable. Historic Neighborhood really nice. Either stained or dirty sheets. Dead gnats on pillow. Ceiling fan had a ton of dust on it. Bathroom had hair in shower. Empty tissue box.
- Kate (7/5): Good -
- Joyce (6/5): Great location for my needs but very concerned about the cleanliness - Very convenient location and I think it could improve The coffee pot was filthy and the cups were sketchy. The tub seemed pretty dirty.
- Patrick (8/5): - Not very clean. Heater was a plugin to the wall.
- Michael (3/5): Poor -
- Michael (9/5): Nice - Location All was well.
- Darlene (2/5): - Owner is rude!
- Mark (5/5): Passable -
- Doyle (7/5): Good -
- Marjorie (6/5): Clean and tolerable. Close to Eisenhower Presidential Library - Inexpensive. Car outside of Door Bathrooms need update. The tub had damage
- Robert (2/5): Very poor -
- Alan (10/5): Rebirth of a GEM! - The motel is being renovated so it's in transition. It was a good value and the the owner made sure we were taken care of relative to room temp. and cable TV. I'm confident next year it will be even better!
- Amy (10/5): - This is an excellent budget motel. We stayed on Christmas Eve til the day after Christmas. We arrived fairly late and the innkeeper could not have been friendlier or more helpful. He didn't act like we were putting him out even though it was Christmas Eve.
The room was nice and clean. The bed was comfortable and there are a ton of free movie channels. The wifi worked perfectly for us throughout the stay as well. We will definitely be back!
- Tabah (7/5): Good - no breakfast should upgrade bathtub, looked rusted.
- Marcy (2/5): - Abilene, Kansas is SO charming and delightful - like a Hallmark movie! We’ve been a couple times and we stayed at Abilene’s B&B both times. However, they were booked the first night of this trip so we stayed here 1 night since it APPEARED to have good reviews and the pictures APPEARED good or we would not have stayed. The photographer VERY strategically took photos. The furniture is old and outdated. There were too many odd tables in our room, it was too full. The tv was too small and the remote didn’t work. We found a way to get the power on manually, but the management had the sound turned so low you couldn’t hear it. There was a small old coffee pot but NO COFFEE to put in it! There was *NO SOAP* (or shampoo, location etc)!!! There was only ONE very small bath towel for 2 adults!!! There were ugly stains in the toilet and bathtub that could have easily been bleached or caulked if someone cared to make it look better. I don’t normally leave bad reviews because I too am a small business owner and want to promote small business - but I honestly felt tricked and wanted my money back and to leave. I didn’t sleep well because they used a plug in wall heater that didn’t even feel safe. They told us all HVAC temperatures were handled by them and they said to call them if we were too cold (it was December)… We love Abilene and will be back - but we will NEVER stay here again. The bed was comfortable. It’s a shame because this has the potential to be such a darling place!
- Leonard (6/5): Pleasant - There is not much choice when it comes to lodging in Abilene, Kansas. The Diamond motel is by far the best of what is offered. Close to the Eisenhower Center and other attractions. Basic 1950's motel. Let me say once again, BASIC, VERY BASIC.
- Larry (2/5): Very poor - The price. Bathroom was dirt, needed a thorough cleaning.
The bathtub was dirty and ancient. Sink was rusty. The toilet was growing black mold.
- Carey (8/5): Good experience with no hassle. - Clean, well maintained. TV remote wasn’t working properly
- Astrid (10/5): Great quiet place - Nicely updated and great location Na
- Dave (10/5): Very comfortable bed and pillows, best night of sleep in a week! - Very quiet, mostly residential area
- Palmer (7/5): Good - Could not control the room temperature.
- Heather (8/5): Great stay!! Friendly service and great price! - The staff was super friendly and made checking in quick and easy. The hotel was adorable! The parking was great. The room was very clean, and the beds were super comfy. It had everything we needed for a night's stay. There were no controls for the AC/heat in the room, so the room went from being cold to very hot! There was no consistency in the room temperature, and there was a lot of noise at night. The volume on the remote didn't work either, so we couldn't have the tv on to cover up the noise. The ice machine was also broken, and we needed ice.
- Kelly (7/5): Good -
- Harry (6/5): Pleasant -
- Scott (8/5): - Very clean.
- Robin (3/5): Disappointing - The ceiling fan. And the sheets were clean I booked based on a breakfast included but there was none. It wasn’t clean. The hair dryer didn’t work the tub drainage was abysmal. The blinds were torn such that people could see in.
- Diana (2/5): Didn't stay - Had reservations. Office was closed and licke with a note on door. Left to ear and came back. Still locked. Called number on diir. He couldn't find the reservation and questioned if I really made them. We drove to the next town and stayed somewhere.
- Teresa (8/5): Very good -
- Joe (8/5): Very good -
- Janet (8/5): Not perfect but OK for a night - We got a call from the motel at about 3:30pm asking us when we would arrive. When we arrived the office door was locked and I had to ring the bell. The exterior of the motel was neatly kept and looked freshly painted. Our room was freshly painted. When we tried to use the tv the remote wouldn't work and when I picked up the phone to call the desk, the phone was dead. When the manager came to the room he said that people have been stealing the batteries from the remote. The carpet was old and needed vacuuming. The mattress was firm and comfortable but the sheets did not fit and came loose from the corners in the night. The bathroom needed updating and the toilet bowl was not clean. Although it was not perfect it was ok for our one night stay.
- Michael (9/5): Incredible place to stay in Abilene. - Great beds, incredible shower and water pressure. Very personal owner and staff. Great location. Toilet was very low to the ground.
- kevin (6/5): - This hotel is over-priced by $20. 1950'S style. Luke-warm water, couldn't turn off TV after having trouble turning it on. Grounds unkept. Could be a nice place if a little work was put into it. No breakfast, no-one in office, had to ring bell in middle of day. Manager was responsive to requests. Staff not cheerful, very grouchy. Bed was comfortable.
- Jerald (6/5): - It was almost like a self service one night stay. Unstaffed office (call a number to check in), no ice machine, very little lukewarm water, button didn’t work on remote control. Was clean and bare bones.
- Gillian (9/5): Superb -
- Jim (7/5): Great spot for a short stay, but staff needs to update their game. - Staff was very helpful! Quaint facility in great location. A/C system, though temperature was not controllable, was excellent. The bathroom was equipped with a nice towel, but no wash clothes or hand towels. It's befuddling. The bathtub was in great need of refinishing. With a little effort, this mid-century gem could be restored to its former glory.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice room - It was a nice room. It had a refrigerator that was good. The pillows were great!
- Elizabeth (1/5): There was no stay because there was no one there to check me in. Door was locked; they were closed. - I had a reservation but they were closed when I arrived. I had to find another place to stay.
- Brown (8/5): Old time hospitality - The staff was glad to see us, warmly welcoming, happy to oblige our little needs. Told us what we needed to know. Old time hospitality. Not much. Absolutely do it again if needed.
- Doris (6/5): I don't remember this hotel particularly. -
- Dale (7/5): Good -
- Deb (4/5): Would not recommend - This motel is fine if you are a hunter who does not care about clean or decent. The rust in the shower tub was so bad I would not take a shower. There was rust in the sink and a black teeshirt was left on a table. This making me wonder if the room had been cleaned. No outlets for devices or CPAP machine unless you moved the bed. The TV did not work. The ice machine did not work. No ability to turn on heat or air conditioning as it is controlled in the office. Outside weeds in the sidewalk gave the motel an unkept look. The only good thing was we only stayed overnight.
- Jayne (6/5): Pleasant - I liked the location away from the freeway, more interior to the town. It had a good overall feel to it. Bathroom was in need of upgrade. Tub was leaking, rusted, and dubious in cleanliness. Definitely not inviting.
- Verified traveler (6/5): You get what you pay for - Eh. It was a room with a bed. Very old, not great condition. But it got the job done.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scott (6/5): 1950’s Motor Lodge in Ike’s Town. - We were here for my birthday roadtrip. I love this little, sweet town but the choices of places to stay is sparse. The Diamond takes you back to that small town 1950’s motor lodge you see in movies. Unfortunately it’s in need of upkeep. The tub was very gross, we chose not to shower. The bed like the room was clean but so lumpy and uncomfortable. There are not a lot of plug in choices when both partners want to charge multiple items and one need to plug in their Cpap machine. Lighting upgrade would also be good. But overall if you don’t want to drive 20 miles down I-70, you want to stay the night in town this will absolutely do. Thanks & safe travels!
- Sandy (6/5): - If you're looking for something fancy with amenties this is not it but its a safe, quiet place to lay your head and the guy who runs it is very nice and will do everything he can to make your stay comfortable.
- Beth (7/5): Good -
- Raymond (8/5): Clean - Clean room. Ver friendly host.
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Debbie (8/5): Very good -
- JASON (4/5): - Let’s start with check in. First, check in was at 3 pm, I arrived 5 mins early to find the office locked up. I rung the night time bell to be greated by a man who could pass for homeless, in his PJ’s. Then I got a different room from which I booked. After that, we check out the room. The sheets were clean, but the comforter was not. It looked as if a mechanic might have changed his oil in the parking lot and used the comforter to wipe his hands off. Now, let’s take a look at that bathroom. The shower head was broken, and pointed straight to the ground. I’m not a tall man, but man…it’s was an uncomfortable shower. Overall, I’d find some where else to stay, maybe even sleep in your car.
- Schluter (1/5): Bad - The bed was comfortable Needs a lot of work. Tiles falling off shower tub.
- Beverly (6/5): Pleasant -
- BRIAN (2/5): - No heat or a/c, ceiling fan did not work, towels and sheets were stained, and tub was rusted, filthy, and clogged with a old bar of soap, meaning the tub had not even been cleaned. Slimy liuid on night stand, sad!
- Donald (4/5): - Poor service
- Susan (4/5): - Bathtub literally brown ! Couldn’t believe it
Two very tiny thin towels
No heating and very chilly
Couldn’t get tv to work
With just minor changes it could be nice
I was dreading seeing a bed bug but luckily didn’t
Left at first light of day never to return
- Wendell (7/5): Good -
- jim (10/5): - Nice quiet location!
- Joseph (6/5): Pleasant - It was a clean freshly painted 50's style park at the door single floor motel with paved parking. Handicap accessible and well lit. The room did not have a thermostat so, I called the office. They told me that with their central heat they turn on heat from the office. The water in the sink never got hot and the shower just got warm. I will go back but be more prepared for a cheap motel.
- Julie (7/5): Good value for money esp if you like vintage/retro, plus comfy bed. - The bed pillows and comforter were very comfortable. The room was clean and price was good. Bathroom really needs updating especially tub
