Food in the dining room below average. salad and fried fish very good. staff was friendly and great. Beautiful wooded areas and walking trails. Have stayed in almost all of kys. state resort parks. It had been awhile. Sorry to see them run down. Food used to be excellent in all that I visited. Service still great.
- Lisa (10/5): Small slice of wilderness charm! - It’s exactly what you would expect for lodges in a state park. Room was clean, beds were comfortable and we could even have our dog with us! Service was good and staff was friendly. Beautiful setting. Deer everywhere along what use to be the golf course. A great 2 mile walk….we probably saw 20 deer!

- David (8/5): Nice stay - My wife and had never been to Carter Caves and wanted to give it a try on Labor day weekend. The staff at the resort were very friendly and helpful. We had an issue with a broken switch for the fan in the bathroom. Even though we let them know that we weren't concerned about it they still asked if maintenance could come in to fix it as long as it wasn't going to interfere with our time. The maintenance man was very polite and was able to change the switch out in a short amount of time. The room was a little dated, especially the bathroom, but everything was clean feeling. The towels and bed linens all felt fresh and clean. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed having a balcony to enjoy the fresh air. We weren't impressed with the restaurant at the lodge. The food wasn't bad but after 4:00 pm we only had the option of eating the buffet when all we wanted was something smaller to eat that didn't cost as much as the buffet. At the time we just decided to give it a try, but next time we visit we'll just have to drive a little to find another restaurant that offers different options. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the lodge and enjoyed the scenery on the trails.

- Randy (10/5): Pleasant Stay - Rooms were clean and spacious and as described. Bed was comfortable and came with clean sheets. Overall a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. The on-site restaurant, Tierney's Cavern, serves a variety of delicious food, and is conveniently located on the first floor of the lodge.

Putt putt, trails, the pool caves, watching the wildlife not be afraid to show theirself. Within 15 min at the resort deer were appearing at the back side off our balcony. Squirrels, racoons the birds were bright and vibrant. Amazing trip all together.

You stay in the center of all the trails so we were able to very easily access all of them! Staff was wonderful, very kind and helpful. The rooms were very pleasant to stay in as well. Only downfall were rooms above, could hear every step made across floor and walkway. Buffet was amazing, Prices are absolutely great for a vacation to beautiful scenery. I would recommend to all. - Karen (8/5): ON SITE RESTAURANT WAS TERRIBLE! ROOMS WERE FABUL - The lodge and the room were exceptional. But... Whatever you do. DO NOT EAT AT THE LODGE RESTAURANT! Worst food we ever ate. Worst service we ever had. They kept coming out telling us that they were out of items we ordered. The food was terrible and cold. Or really burnt and still cold. We were there over 2 hours. It was really terrible.

- john (10/5): Excellent - Excellent, I stayed in one of the cottages. It had all modern conveniences and was very quiet and the bed was quite comfortable. I felt safe and room was secure. Cottage had a nice kitchen, living room with fireplace, and a back Porch overlooking the woods. The cottage I was in had 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms . I will definitely be back next time I'm in area the cave tours were amazing and the hiking paths were as well.

- Jeffery (10/5): - Stayed at lodge, loved the front door porch area and back door semi-private porch area overlooking forest. Room was clean, had direct tv, and good wifi. Has a restaurant, i ate at buffet every day. Food and deserts were very good. Lodge is somewhat close to the lake its a short hike from lodge with option to see Smokey arch( land bridge) from below or above. Caught small bass on small beetlespin. I opted for text notifications which kept me updated with cave tours, restaurant hours, and anything i might have requested. I did the x cave tour, which surpassed my expectations, very enjoyable. Note: if staying at lodge there is no elevator for access to top floor rooms. It didnt effect me. Was happy I was in top floor for lodge is wooden and the floors are a little creaky which i think adds to the coolness if the lodge. Enjoyed my stay, would stay again.

There are several self guiding trails right off the hotel that you dont need a permit for (no caves involved) that were really enjoyable. I did like the signage that helped get around these trails. I thought the caves were fairly inexpensive the tour guides where quite informative and very enjoyable. I really can't wait to come back this summer we visited in the off season.

- Kathy M (8/5): Overnight on the way home - The beds, pillows, towels, shower, flat screen dish tv were very good. The Fridge did not have a control on it and the setting was not very cold at all. There is a very small coffee maker, we used to heat water for our cup of soup. A microwave would have been nice. There was a buffet and salad bar in the restaurant. We arrived at 7p , the salad bar was the only thing we were interested in. Only one of us took a salad to go ($11.50) it needed some attention it appeared.

- Amy (10/5): - This was our first time staying at Carter Caves and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Every staff member was kind and helpful. Our upper floor room was very quiet and clean. We ate at the lodge restaurant four times and each time the food was delicious. The waitresses were wonderful. These girls were too short-staffed, but they really busted their humps and provided excellent service. Even the hostess had to jump in and help and she was excellent as well. We did have to wait a little bit for food to be prepared, but that didn't bother us. We're retired now! Time doesn't matter! We're supposed to be taking time to slow down and smell the roses at this point! The only things that were negatives was that there is no elevator to the second floor rooms. It's an old lodge and we understand. We're not spring chickens anymore and steps are difficult. The girl at the desk did offer to change our room to the bottom floor, but we chose to keep our assigned room upstairs because it would be more quiet. Also, some of the floors are noisy. My husband walks heavy in the heels and I had to keep reminding him to walk more quietly for the poor people downstairs. The floor in the entry way of our room really vibrated when we walked on it, so I worried about the people underneath us. Also, the wooden walkway outside in front of the rooms was very noisy to walk on. I was worried that it would wake me up if people were walking on it outside while I was sleeping, but this was not an issue.
- Maghann (8/5): Could have been better - The location can't be beat. Its beautiful and the hiking trails in the park are lovely. The rooms are clean, but dated. Our mattress was old and lumpy. The onsite restaurant had an odd odor, so much so that we chose to not eat there. I would have appreciated more coffee options in the room, but I also understand taht they want you to go to the restaurant for breakfast.

Only things i could mention to future stayers is to be mindful if you are staying at lodge downstairs, the upstairs floors are very creaky so this can be quite noisy with people walking back n forth if your staying downstairs like we did. Also the restaurant on site is decent. I do wish they had more options and did the buffet during the week but they didnt. So we ate there twice and then also in town which I highly recommend Cattlemans if your looking for a good steak!

- Bert (8/5): - If you are into enjoying the outdoors. This is the place to stay! Wooded trails right outside the door, caves to your and explore and lovely cascading waterways to enjoy. The accommodations are somewhat spartan, but getting away to a simpler place is what this is all about. The room’s balcony overlooks the forest and is a nice place to relax. The room, bedding and linens were very clean. Only negatives were that the mattress was old so it had two noticeable dents on the sides with a ridge down the middle where hundreds of guests had slept before. Several lights were burned out but I’m sure if I was staying longer they would have fixed this. Limited TV options, but if you’re staying here it is to get away from all that anyway. I would definitely come back and stay here to do more exploring.
