- Jenni (10/5): Excellent experience - The room and the food was great and also the possibility of hanging out at the sister hotel. We also got exceptional help with our luggage, and the trips we made were super nice. The staff was also amazing in every respect. Two nights there was some sort of event in the neigbourhood with a lot of shouting singing and drumming, which woke us up and kept us awake for a few hours. Should have brought earplugs.

(8/5): We had a very pleasant stay in Blue Reef Sports and Fishing lodge. - very kind staff and owners; the beach is lively with always something happening (windsurfing, seaweed farming, sailing boats, etc.). Breakfast was very good. Going fishing with the owners was great fun. Our room had no view and was sometimes a bit noisy: we could hear everything that happened in the neighbouring room where the staff stored their equipment and had their breaks. But the room was comfortable.

- Margot (9/5): Heerlijk verblijf aan zee met een mooi zwembad, heerlijk eten en heel vriendelijk personeel - Het heeft een lekker ontbijt met fruit en keuze uit ei, yoghurt en pancakes. Het strand verandert enorm met eb en vloed. Bij en kan je een lange wandeling maken tot aan de zee, prachtig. En met vloed komt het water dichtbij en kan je meteen zwemmen. Het personeel is geweldig. Zo vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Wij verbleven in de accommodatie met bungalows waar Simba was. Deze vriendelijke man is echt super. Thank you for everything Simba! Het was een beetje onhandig dat als je in de bungalows verbleef je een stuk moet lopen om bij het zwembad te komen. Verder niets.
- Brigitte (10/5): Authentisch, ruhig und entspannt - Die Lage direkt am Strand hat uns super gefallen. Es ist sehr ruhig und gemütlich. In Gehdistanz hat es viele Restaurants / Bars sowie einen Supermarkt. Das Blue Reef Restaurant hat gute Holzofenpizzas und den besten Fisch / Seafood - wirklich zu empfehlen! Es hat viel Schatten und genug Liegemöglichkeiten. Amor und Simba sind sehr herzlich und hilfsbereit!
- reina (10/5): Best location and cool comfortable room - The location is amazing! on the best beach on the island, so mellow, no crowded, very warm water, great low tide allowed for amazing tide pooling. The room itself was cool and had cieling fans, mosquito nets (although we didn't see any mosquitos), nice big space, comfortable bed. The lounge area in front of beach has chairs, beach bar/restaurant, pool, everything you need. The staff was very friendly and helped us coordinate activities, taxi, etc. The shower is a waterfall type shower so just a stream of water instead of a nozzle. easy enough to get clean with though. Not much vegetarian options for food for lunch/dinner, but breakfast was good. The bathroom did not have a door, it had beaded plastic bottle cap curtain which we tied up so as to not make noise when we used the bathroom at night.

- Ninad (10/5): A place that truly feels like home in Zanzibar - Blue Reef Accommodation is one of those rare places that instantly makes you feel at home. Thomas and Nicky are incredibly passionate owners, and it genuinely shows in every detail. The vibe is much closer to a homestay than a hotel—warm, personal, and welcoming from the moment you arrive. The team deserves a special mention. They are exceptionally well trained, and you can clearly feel the difference in service quality and speed. Compared to many restaurants and stays across Zanzibar, the service here is on another level. A big highlight for me was the cocktails—absolutely top-notch. They easily match the quality you’d expect from a good bar in any major city, which is especially impressive given how challenging access to ice can be in Zanzibar. We stayed here over New Year’s Eve, and it turned out to be one of the best New Year celebrations I’ve ever experienced. Soft live music, a special dance performance by the staff, and a beach BBQ created a magical and intimate atmosphere rather than a loud, commercial party. We didn’t personally go on the fishing trip, but heard excellent feedback from other guests. Since the owners themselves conduct these trips, I can imagine they’re very thoughtfully done and special. The accommodation can arrange everything—from taxis to activities. For excursions, they collaborate with local agents, so those experiences are more standard. If you’re looking for something more exclusive, the fishing trip seems to be the standout option. Overall, Blue Reef is perfect if you’re looking for warmth, great service, excellent food and drinks, and an experience that feels personal rather than touristy. Would happily return and recommend it without hesitation.

- nadia (8/5): Un gioiellino che può brillare ancora di più - Noi abbiamo alloggiato nel bungalow al primo piano (quindi distaccati dalla struttura principale). L’ambiente è piccolo e riservato con un bel giardino. A settembre c’erano pochi ospiti quindi siamo stati benissimo….a pieno regime non credo siano sufficienti i lettini. Il personale è davvero cortese e sempre sorridente e accogliente. La colazione è servita al tavolo e prevede un succo di frutta fresco, due fette di pane tostato con burro, una bevanda calda, una macedonia e a scelta uno di questi prodotti: uova, salsiccia, pancake o yogurt Sarebbe però importante curare alcuni dettagli: nel nostro bagno la lampadina non era funzionante e nessuno l’ha mai sostituita; i lettini in spiaggia (materassini e cuscini) dovrebbero essere lavati di tanto in tanto. L’organizzazione delle escursioni non mi è piaciuta considerando i prezzi elevati. Fuori dalla camera sarebbe utile posizionare una bacinella d’acqua per togliere la sabbia dai piedi e magari sostituire le sedie con due poltroncine più comode. Il soggiorno è comunque stato molto positivo e torneremo volentieri ma con qualche piccola accortezza il punteggio di 8 diventa tranquillamente un 9

Beds comfortable. The food was delicious. We took a fishing charter and the guide and captain were professional and knowledgeable. The boat and equipment were top notch. I can’t say enough good things about this place.

Non ho mai trovato un ambiente così sereno e accogliente come quello del Blue Reef.
- Leigh (10/5): Great family holiday - Just returned from an amazing 10 day holiday at the Blue Reef Bungalows. The location is great, right on the beach front. The bungalow is basic but has a comfortable bed and everything you need with the bar and breakfast restaurant literally a few steps away. The food in the Blue Reef restaurant is varied and really tasty and the pizzas at the bungalows are also excellent. The beach is stunning, however you do get pestered constantly by the sellers which got very tiring by the end (the cashew nuts are so good!). When the tide is out you can walk for about a mile across the beach and still have water below waist height and it is the most beautiful turquoise sea. What really makes it special are the staff - Simba, Wilhemina and Evelyn at the bungalows and Emannuel in the Blue Reef restaurant, the bar boys and Roby are fantastic. So friendly and looked after us so well with an enthusiastic welcome every single time we saw them (and delicious cocktails!) Would highly recommend if you want great staff, a beautiful beach and to experience local life.

- Eden (10/5): - I had an incredible stay at Blue Reef! The location is perfect, right by the beach, and the gym area was fantastic, allowing me to get some great workouts in during my stay. The staff and owners were incredibly welcoming and offered excellent recommendations for tours and activities. I also felt completely safe throughout my visit, which meant a lot as a solo female traveler. The food was absolutely delicious, and they were happy to accommodate specific dietary needs. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this place enough and would definitely come back! The breakfast option was a bit limited

- Joke (10/5): It was a short stay and a longer lasting follow-up next year is being considered. - The staff was friendly and in good mood. Always attentive. The beach was kept clean, which seemed to be part of the 'clean village project', which is actively supported by Blue Reef. We had breakfast and dinner. We have chosen the healthy variety, which was good and rife in fruit. Dinner was excellent. From the concise menu we enjoyed the yellow tuna steak from freshly caught fish by staff (as can be expected in a 'fishing' lodge). We were very pleased by the huge beach that appeared at low tide. Perhaps a more comfortable seat in the loft, but hey we are very much seniors.

The staff are very welcoming and friendly! Definitely recommended! The bathroom is a bit dark but not really disturbing (as you are outside a lot anyway)

- James (10/5): - What a luxury to step out of our room onto a soft, white sand beach. Between our room, the water and neighbouring restaurants, we never needed to leave the beach! The rooms are simple, but clean and the bed was comfortable. The bungalows are lovely with a laid-back vibe, a beautiful garden and lots of shade trees. Restaurants are close by and the wood-fired pizza shop, literally steps from our door, made delicious pizza. What really made our visit was the staff – They are the best! Everyone is welcoming, friendly and always ready to assist. We liked that it was an ‘public' beach as described in the listing. Kids and families from the village played in the water, there was a nightly football game on the beach, and photogenic fishing boats and dhows bobbed in the water. Honest review – expect local guides, souvenir sellers, etc. to approach you on the beach. Fortunately, they are mostly easy going and it can be fun just to talk to them. The bungalows are closely clustered around the bar/lounge area. It is low-keyed, everyone is there just to chill, and all is quiet even before 10. - EMMA (10/5): - I have not been back to Zanzibar for 20 years, this is my 4th visit. I wanted to bring my children. Zanzibar has changed alot, big hotels and alot of development, not well controlled. This is an exellent establishment. The beach cottages are pretty with fans and an ocean view. Wonderful sunbeds infront of the ocean. We ate at the restaurant twice, i had really fresh lobster, chicken tacos and a very good cheesecake. The rooms are cleaned evryday to a very high standard which is a relief after the sandy beach days. We had our washing done and it was not a rip off like other places we stayed. The snorkelling in their own Dhow was really good and a third of the price of other places. Their captain spoke english and explained sailing techniques along the way. They have a wood pizza oven and their pizzas are really good, the best I have eaten in ages. The staff are professional and kind, their cocktails at the sand bar are superb with fresh juices. We had healthy breakfast option with really good homemade granola and local honey. The reason I am leaving such a detailed review is that I own a hotel and camp in Marrakech and I can see how well run this place is. They care about the beach and their room information educates you on how they give back and their recycling beach trash initiatives. This is one of a few authentic Zanzibarian accommodations left. Jambiani beach has other little places and I would recommend staying here if you want fresh fish, good vibes!

- João (7/5): Nice place to enjoy Jambiani - Staff was very friendly, despite the location being wrong compared to what we have in Booking. There are two places, the Sports Lodges and the Bungalows, where in the first you get the gym, bar and restaurants and in the bungalows you get a smaller bar, pizza only restaurants and the bungalows. You can use both facilities for free, but maybe something that could be highlighted better. Room could be better cleaned, but overall a pretty decent experience to spend time in the amazing Jambiani beach.

- Amy (8/5): Wonderful location in Jambiani right on the beach - This is a fantastic location in Jambiani, right on the beach and in proximity to so many other things. The staff was very friendly and responsive, always available to help us with anything we needed. We also loved their excursions, particularly going out on the wooden sailboat and going snorkeling - what a wonderful find! And their sister site has the best wood fired pizzas - highly recommended!
- Tucker (7/5): Decent place but too expensive for what you get - The location is great and it's near a lot of local places. The staff was friendly and the bungalow side was cozy. The pizzas were amazing and we heard their other food was great too. I honestly think that the price per night is too high for the quality of the establishment. The rooms are very simple, it's super hot because there is no air-conditioning, the water in the showers is salty and the beach chairs are usually not very clean. Wifi was ok in the shared area but not great in the rooms. We also did a bit of laundry and it cost quite a bit. The laundry that was returned 2 days later but was still somewhat wet and smelled bad.

- Patrizia (9/5): The home away from home in Jambiani ♥️ - The team at the Blue Reef is EXCEPTIONAL and goes beyond to make your stay special and answer all questions. We made friends and felt truly at home. The location of the lodge at the beach is the best - although we wandered and checked out other locations we always deferred back to our spot which is amazing. Another huge call-out for all the food options (no matter if Blue Reef 1 or 2 with their Pizzas) and the cocktails - everything is absolutely delicious and amazing. Our time to leave was really tough and we felt super welcome throughout the stay - big thank you to everybody, we already miss it so much! The room could offer more storage - especially when it's super humid, it can be tricky for your luggage.
- Anonymous (8/5): The property is not meeting the standards promised on booking.com but the atmosphere is great and the Staff is awesome - The people were really nice and welcoming, Wilimina, Paolo, Emmanuel, Thomas and Nikky were really helpful. The wifi which was included in my booking was barely working in the main areas and not working at all in my room. The pictures marketed of the property are misleading if you ask me as they are not the same as per the property in reality.
- Lorraine (10/5): FABULOUS location, GREAT staff, Super clean ,never had to wear shoes unless going on excursions! - Great location right on the beach, loved the bungalow, the three owners were on site and extremely helpful booking excursions, we caught a fish and the cook served it for our dinner and included guests ( it was a 30 lb Wahoo), staff friendly and always smiling, great pizza in fire oven, I would suggest if you are staying in the bungalows-walk down the beach to the dive shop/ lodge location asap. You can book your excursions there to avoid confusion. I would suggest drinking water be replaced ( refilled)in room everyday , staff should wear name tags,

- Fredi (9/5): Superb - We had a wonderful time at Blue Reef. The owners and staff are super accomodating and helpful. The daybed was the place to be for us and staff served us cocktails :) The apartment was spotless and spacious. I like the cleaning concept a lot - as the guest decides when cleaning is wanted. This saves human resources and is sustainable. The food was great (especially everything seafood and pizza). The organization of daytours (diving & Prison Island) was quick and easy. There were some power blackouts (of course not their fault) where a generator would be helpful. I think the breakfast is ok but could be improved with more mix and match options and variety of juices.

- Lilian (8/5): A welcoming and lovely place to stay. - I really enjoyed my stay at Blue Reef. The location of the bungalows was perfect and boasted breathtaking views of the ocean. The food and drinks served were delicious. All the staff, especially Juma and Paulo, were very welcoming and accommodating. There was no clothing rack or hangers in the room for clothes.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Fun and casual hotel - The location of the hotel is great, it's close to kite-surf shops, in front of a beautiful beach and near very cool bars and restaurants. The rooms are ok, nothing fabulous but functional and charming. Unfortunately I was given a noisy room that was close to the staff room where they go in and out all day to do washing and storage so it wasn't very private. Also the windows cannot be closed so you can hear everything that's going on outside. I did request a change of room but this wasn't possible as all the other rooms were fully booked. They have a nice bar and they make good cocktails. The staff are super friendly and are always up for a chat. The wifi doesn't work in the room, only in common areas.

Cucina ottima con gusti sempre differenti, ampia scelta e porzioni abbondanti. Il mio unico consiglio è rivolto alle camere poste sui lati, se ci fosse una finestra aperta sul bagno sarebbe tutto perfetto per vivere una vacanza da sogno lontano dalla tecnologia e dell’occidentalità!
