Guest Reviews
- Inbar_Y (2/5): Very bad. Avoid . Any other option will make it better. - Avoid
they have no idea
what they are doing.
Bad drinks, tasteless food and even worst service
Mistakes, waiting times of more than an hour to prepare simple dishes
35 min. to bring one bottle of beer
We left after not being served some portions we ordered (waited for more than an hour)
and were anyway charged for the never appearing portions and sodas
A real disaster
A v o i d
Any other option will not be so bad
The worst place in our two trips to Sri Lanka
- David (4/5): - Poor condition of property and overpriced. Location close to beach is only good thing about the property. Service average. Do not recommend.
- Alal (3/5): It is not for stay.... only the sea view is good. - only location is awesome. other than location and sea view.....this hotel is not worthy. Their breakfast menu is also very very limited.
- Louise (3/5): Disappointing - The location is perfect at the far end of Mirissa near coconut hill with fabulous views of the sea with turtles swimming just off shore and a view in the other direction of parrot rock. The staff in the restaurant were lovely and the food was great There was no water in the bathroom at all for the second night and they didn’t think it was a problem to have no flushing toilet or tap water or shower. After raising the issue they didn’t know what to do and we said we could change room and even though there were available rooms on this site they didn’t want to move our room so I said I wanted to cancel after walking into the hotel next door to make sure we could get a room. I was refunded the second night after much pressure from me. 2 hours wasted which put a huge dampener on our 2 night stop in Mirissa.
There were ants all in the bathroom and we found a cockroach in our coffee cup.
- Abid (10/5): Mirissa Seastar provided the backdrop to a truly beautiful location and amazing people - The breakfast was outstanding - sets you up for the day. The staff were exceptional and always willing to go the extra mile. No issue was too big. 'Bhabbi' was an absolute legend, always cool and ready to offer fantastic local advice. nothing
- Andrew (8/5): - Very dated furniture/ decor and a little basic , no hot water insects in the bathroom , However all is forgiven when you step onto the balcony the view was to die for could have sat on that balcony everyday for the rest of my life , truly phenomenal
- Somanna (1/5): Worst booking in Sri lanka - The location is nice The staff were very rude. The AC wasn't working and it hardly managed to cool the room. Yet the staff refused to claim responsibility for it. The wifi didn't work for the entire duration of the stay. When informed about this to the staff, the manager was rude and impolite. Food also was pathetic.
- 323ernestab (10/5): Seastar Mirissa the best spot to see sunset - Amazing place, the best Mirissa spot to see sunsets. A little steps from coconut tree hill, and parrot island.Food so so delicious, plenty choices, freshly made, not expensive. We really enjoyed so much. The staff very friendly, the owner very responsible.
- DayTrip255898 (10/5): Best restaurant in the town :) - Fantastic restaurant with a stunning view, hammock, swing, very friendly staff and very good food. The best of the best pancakes in the whole Sri Lanka 🥞 😀 🤤 You can enjoy view on Coconut Tree Hill directly from the table. I really recommend this place 👌 ❤️
- shakilap2015 (6/5): Small hotel - This is a very small facilitated hotel with great views of coconut tree hill. Very near to the view point and amazing environment .Rooms are not well maintained and well equipped. There are hardly any furniture in the room. Apart from that I found people are friendly.
- Sajib (4/5): Client service need to improved a lot, otherwise its not worthy to stay there. We stay 3 night not a single time no one - only beach front room and nicr view
- Gennaro (2/5): Der Urlaubszerstörer - Achtung ⚠⚠ Wer seinen Urlaub nicht ruinieren möchte, sollte die Finger davon lassen.
- Karni (5/5): Passable -
- Daniel (10/5): - Fantastic ocean views, fast wifi, good food. Great hotel overall.
- Jim (4/5): - Room was dirty and sparsely furnished. Balcony door won’t open without pulling out your back; no daily cleaning (you have to ask); no shampoo. Towels (1 per person for room and beach) stained and threadbare. Management is letting the place fall apart. It’s at best a two star hotel, soon to be one. It’s a shame, the view and location are fantastic. The staff work hard (15 hour days) and try their best while management/owners simply don’t know, or maybe don’t care how to run a decent hotel.
- Paul (8/5): Great location, crappy attitude. - First the good stuff. The hotel is located at the end of Mirissa beach for away from the crowds. The seaside rooms had a fantastic view out over the bay and Coconut Hill is adjacent to the property. Breakfast was very good.
Now the bad. The owner/ receptionist was indifferent to our arrival. He frankly didn't give a crap that we were there. Everywhere we have gone we have had a quick welcome drink even extended to our wonderful driver. Here he was ignored and not even offered one. This speaks volumes about the kind of attitude from the management of this hotel. WiFi was hit and miss and although there was a remote control for the television there was no TV in the room.
- 139jonathank (10/5): Nice hotel, incredible view, friendly staff - We really enjoyed the night we stayed here. The view from the balcony was fantastic. The room was comfortable and spacious and we slept well. It was a bit old and rough around the edges, and the price was a bit high, but we spent 2 weeks around Sri Lanka and that was more or less par for the course -- Seastar was well worth it for the beautiful view and direct access to the beach. Desk staff were always more than helpful and made the stay really easy and enjoyable.
- Jonathan (10/5): Beautiful view, good service - We really enjoyed the night we stayed here. - Maria (10/5): Great hotel with view of Coconut hill! - We had a really great stay! Our room had a big balcony with sun and a beautiful ocean view. The room was spacious and the bed was also really big. On top of that we where treated with excellent service by Dilan our waiter, and general go to guy, at the hotel. He became our buddy while staying there, and his service minded attitude and sporadic singing made the atmosphere homey and welcoming :) He also arranged super surfing lessons for us, by Mirissa’s top surfer! All in all, would absolutely stay again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very dirty hotel and rooms - Very dirty hotel and rooms- nice beach though
- Anniebee11 (6/5): Great view from the balcony but ... - We just spent 3 nights in this hotel. Had a room with balcony on the second floor and this is really what we were paying for. Nothing else deserves 3 stars.
The room itself was big enough but the fridge was dirty (mould growing in it) and I had to ask for the room to be serviced (yet paying USD 55 a night), the bidet spray was broken and the shower set up very high and had low pressure. Tv did not work either. No wifi.
The view was however fantastic.
We had good breakfasts there and a mediocre lunch.
The manager was very friendly and attentive, and when he was around we could always rely on him for advice or just service. There was also a friendly lady who did the cleaning and who always had a smile for you. The rest of the staff were unfriendly and not helpful. You always felt that you were imposing on them.
There was in fact a rather unpleasant atmosphere downstairs, which was the only place where the wifi worked.
Overall I don't think I would stay there again.
- spite777 (2/5): Overpriced restaurant with a view - We have stayed at the restaurant for dinner after visiting coconut tree hill. It has been our worst dining experience in Sri Lanka. Not only was food overpriced and reminded us very much of a cantina, besides that portions were small. Taste confirmed the look. Also the service was not attentive at all. We asked multiple times what dishes are served with and literally had to pull information out of our waiter’s nose. Salad was served without any dressing and our request for vinegar and oil remained unanswered. After we got served, nobody showed up again asking if we are fine or need something else. Overall a rather disappointing dining experience that could not be compensated by the great sunset view.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hard to find. Good enough location. Great views. They do their best. The food is good. Quiet. A lot of kinks to work out. For the price, location, food and effort, it is worth it. The staff will go out of your way to help in any way.
- 740marinae (10/5): Chill place with lovely views - We stayed here 2 nights. The views were amazing, staff friendly and breakfasts very large. We bought some fresh fish and the staff prepared it for us for a romantic dinner for 2 on the beach. If you snorkel in the beach in front of the hotel you can see turtles.
- X3071NAdavew (10/5): A slice of paradise - An excellent mid range hotel located at the quiet end of Mirissa, if you are looking for a quieter spot away from the main crowded beach this is it. It feels like you are on your own private beach but the restaurants and bars of the main beach are just a 5 to 10 minutes walk away. The rooms are large and clean, the breakfast out on the terrace overlooking the sea is fabulous. The owner, Nalaka is very friendly and helpful, I would definitely recommend this place.
- Michelle (8/5): Mirissa beach a little corner of heaven ! - We chose this hotel specifically for its location - It’s set right on the beach at the far end of the cove - away from the hustle and bustle of the main Mirissa beach - yet close enough to be part of it when You want to be ... I read all the reviews and I saw some negative ones about cleanliness of the hotel - so bearing that in mind I went ahead and booked for 3 nights
The welcome was friendly and warm, with a cool juice drink to welcome us an Upgrade as our sea view room was booked out - the room was clean and comfortable, the balcony overlooking the sea was perfect - especially for sunset viewing with a cocktail or a beer
The bed was very comfortable, the room had ac , fan and mozzie net - all worked - the bathroom was filled with all the toiletries you could want
The restaurant is right on the beach. Surrounded by palm trees and fairy lights - hammocks and giant bean bags ! the breakfasts were typical Sri Lankan- fit for kings and The fresh fish we had for dinner was delicious - the wine was chilled, The views were great - the service was spot on - the owner. Manager and staff were all friendly and helpful.
There”s a pool table in the lounge if it’s raining and beach beds / towels supplied
I would recommend this hotel for anyone that wants a bit of peace to chill out on the beach - and delicious food & cocktails
I would definitely stay here again if I go back to Mirissa
- carleydalby (8/5): A little slice of paradise - We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of Jan. Was very impressed with the room, clean, spacious and beautiful views of ocean. This place really is charming from the building to the staff and of course the incredible bay which it’s situated on. The lady who runs everything Regina was always helpful and informative, food was delicious, great cocktails and lovely atmosphere both day and night. Very relaxing and tranquil - we wanted to stay longer and would definitely visit again. If your looking for a secluded bay away from the hustle of the main beach then I would definitely recommend.
- Bidders01 (2/5): Very Disappointing - It’s not often I give a poor review, I prefer not to review at all out of respect to the owners, but in this case I will make an exception. This hotel was a shocker. Dirty, disorganised, expensive, remote, it had pretty much nothing going for it. We were put in a room (large enough I suppose) facing the vacant site (rubbish dump) opposite. We thought being one of the most expensive rooms in Marissa it would be better than this. Driving down a dirt track to the entrance that was strewn with rubbish should have been a warning sign. Don’t stay here, there are plenty of nicer places closer to the main beach. The French lady at reception was sympathetic but couldn’t do much for us. I got the impression she was used to fielding plenty of complaints like ours!! Lovely shots of the entrance and balcony view attached
- AE81TE (10/5): Very charming hotel with great view - We enjoyed our stay very much! The room had the most wonderful view as you’ll see in one of the photos attached. The boss and the lady boss were very friendly and generous, willing to give good recommendations on everything we asked about. They got a talentet cook who made excellent food! Even people not staying at the hotel returned several times to dine there. The beach was charming with sun beds included, small reefs made the place great for snorkling with huge sea turtles. Walking distance to the bigger and more crowded beach, which also was a good experience.
- jasminecat (2/5): Dirty and could not stay - NEVER recommend. - When we finally found the hotel - badly signposted and down a dark dirt track, we were greeted by the staff who were bare footed. It was like Faulty Towers. Nothing worked and the staff did not speak English and were running about all over the place not knowing what to do. My room had air conditioning - which made the wardrobe doors rattle when it was running - it was so loud and vibrated badly. The single bed's top sheet was torn and was so small it did not even tuck in. The manager came to my room and took the old sheet off and when it was removed, there was a huge hole in the bottom sheet, showing the dirty mattress below. I said to the manager that the room was unlivable and I could not stay. She AGREED and said she would arrange a refund. I went to the Triple "O" Six hotel up the road and had the most wonderful couple of days - clean, friendly boutique hotel which exceeded my expectations. I can only assume they paid for the other positive reviews to be posted.
- bottomleyhelen1305 (8/5): Beautiful view - We stayed at Seastar for 3 nights - although we were lucky to even get there as our tuk tuk driver missed the hotel sign on the main road directing you down a small lane (in his defence the sign is quite small)
On arrival we were given a warm welcome and shown our room which was a double with balcony overlooking the sea.
We had the usual...air con, fan, massive fridge, tv and WiFi in the room.
The breakfast was lovely (although the fruit juice smoothy was a bit on the large side so we left quite a lot..sorry)
The staff were very friendly and helpful especially when I bashed my leg on a rock in the sea and had to go to the medical centre.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend.
- marinacV240FS (10/5): Perfect location on the beach - Located on a small bay 15 mns walking from the main beach this hotel offer you a perfect relaxing stay on the beach. Rooms are clean and spacious with an ocean view and breeze .. the staff is super friendly and there is a great restaurant on site providing fresh seafood and everything we needed. Also the best point for sunset lovers ! Go on book it
- _jarka55 (10/5): Hidden star of Mirrissa - Very nice and clean hotel right at the beach. It is not located at the central mirrissa beach, but still walking distance - 5-10 minutes. Beatiful rooms, great views, nice food. Helpfull staff. Small and quiet beach - feels like private beach, turtles swimming close to beach every day.
- 958j_r_mep (8/5): Good location - Good hotel, large room with view over the bay. There are turtles in the bay, great experience ! The hotel is 15 min on foot away from the main beach and 10 min by tuktuk from the whale watching tours.
There could be better service from the staff (cleanness, presence, ..).
Overall, we recommend this place for the location.
- 872cathb (8/5): A quieter side of Mirissa, balconies with fantastic sunset views - If you prefer a quiet location, with a smaller beach and fantastic sunset views, this is a hidden gem. Having read previous reviews, we wonder if they might have lowered the price level, since we did not think it was overpriced. We stayed for 5 nights, and once you get to know the staff they are lovely and very helpful. The food is really nice (you can even get reasonable dry white wine), comfy beds, shower with pressure, it´s clean and there are no mosquitos due to the constant sea breeze. The best part are the spacious balconies, in colonial style, practically on the sea, and the sound of the waves gave us quality sleep. With Mirissa nightlife only a short tuktuk ride away, I can highly recommend this place - we would definitely stay here again!
- smadarta (10/5): Perfect location with great beach view - We stayed for two nights and enjoyed this quite area of Mirrisa and the great beach.
There is a very nice reef for snorkeling just in front of the hotel (check for high tide times).
Rooms with beach view aren't cheap, but they are big and clean and we enjoyed watching sunsets from the balcony.
The hotel owners and the stuff were very kind & food was tasty!
(also arranged some vegan options for breakfast)
- rebeccajA430CZ (4/5): Over priced!!! - We stayed at sea star for one night and paid £130 for our room. We had stayed at two other lovely hotels for around the same price and in comparison sea star seriously ripped us off!
The hotel is very shabby and piecemeal and not a lot of thought has gone into it. We seemed to be the only guests in peak season and we quickly saw why. The staff seemed lazy and unwilling to help. Breakfast was not included at the price and we felt we really were not getting much for our money in comparison to the two other lovely hotels we stayed at.
The room was very clean with good air con and the balcony and view very nice. The beach is a separate private cove away from the main beach which was nice.
It's a shame because the hotel has a lot of potential and could be really lovely.
- Camilla (8/5): Ok standard, men lugn o läget vid havet bäst - Lite ödsligt, men jättehärligt läge om man vill ha lugn. Balkongen mycket fin. Fin utsikt.
- nadianess (6/5): Book for the scenery rather than the hotel - Mirissa Seastar is a new hotel. At a quieter part of Mirissa beach, the scenery and location is absolutely stunning. If you get a sea-facing room your balcony will look right out over the beach, allowing you to hear the waves crashing and watch the fishing boats.
The room was furnished with basic furniture, although the bed was really comfy and room itself spacious. Lighting and wifi were poor.
The hotel takes cash only, so make sure you get a price in advance and not an on the day exchange rate. Doesn't really feel like a hotel, more of a motel and was quiet when we stayed.
The property is 20 minutes walk from the busy part of Mirissa Beach, and 200 rupees for a taxi back at the end of the night. The hotel is down an alley next to the Mirissa Town exit sign, a lot of drivers didn't know where it was yet.
