We usually stay at 5-star hotels on our work trips, and I'd dare to say that the personalised service and home-cooked breakfast here is definitely worth the stay, and provides a very lovely, homely experience that is so different from what's out there. The owner even cooked breakfast for us, it was so delicious, akin to eating at a top tier cafe in Singapore. The room was spacious, and I loved the minimalist design of the room. The service staff even recommended us to get free bicycles for rental, which we did so and cycled around Sun Moon Lake during one of the days. Thanks for the lovely stay, we very much appreciate it!

First of all, I would like to mention Arthur, who made check-in and check-out for us and took care of us during our visit to Sun Moon Lake. Thank you for your hospiality, advices and efficient customer service. It is also important to mention that the hotel is absolutely different from what you knew and experienced before. It feels like at home. The interior of the room is interesting and beautiful, the bed is comfortable and we could enjoy Netflix movies on the big TV screen. The availability of popcorn in the main kitchen/breakfast area for the guests is a super cool idea too. We really enjoyed everything. The only one thing can be improved is drain pipe scouring out in the room.

- hsushangte (10/5): Perfect place for a romantic getaway - From checking in to checking out, everything was perfect. The interim design was flawless and the hospitality was amazing. We had a wonderful afternoon coffee and desserts as we arrive and the reception was turned into our dining room after a long walk along the lake (we bought our own take away). The bathtub with hot spring salt reenergized us. We also enjoyed the Netflix and movie on demand services free of charge. Breakfast was simply fabulous. You won’t find a BnB better than this.

Behind the hotel you have tea fields ! The hotel itself is cosy and so well designed. Room was amazing and so comfortable ! The bed was amazing and we loved to get Netflix to watch at night time ! I like all equipment in the room, such as dyson air treatment, bathroom heater, soft water system, panasonic hair dryer, LG dehumidifier, and bluetooth audio. The amenities in the room are also satisfying. It provide something hard to see in hotel, such as mouthwash, mask, bath salt, body sponge. And I like the smell in the room, the reed diffuser is flavor of white tea, it’s a kind of comfortable taste! If you hungry, it offer instant noodles and popcorn. And u can use Nestle capsule coffee machine to enjoy a cup of coffee, it’s awesome! The breakfast is also delicious, the salad and pancake tasted great, it’s a very hearty meal. Finally, I think it’s a good choice to stay in sun moon lake!

They helped us to arrange an around the lake bike ride and our boat/gondola ride as well as helped us with our bus trip back to Taichung. They even helped to find a vegetarian friendly restaurant nearby for us! The breakfast that they made in the morning was delicious. Also, the rooms are super modern and minimalist with a plush and perfect bed. I would 100% recommend this hotel!

The room is very jap minimalist style and the feature in the room is highly functional. It’s huge enough to make you want to stay in for the whole day. Tv has Netflix and lotsa on demand movies. No extra charges. The kitchen cum recep area is free to use, they even have fruits and popcorn for self serve! In the morning, breakfast is prepared just when you got seated at the nice kitchen area. Fell in love with this cosy place and will certainly return again! Super thumbs up for Shao Guang 188.
- Verified traveler (10/5): One of the Best B&B Experiences Ever - Clean, spacious, and minimalist designs & decor choices make Shaoguang 188 one of the most visually-pleasing B&B I’ve landed my eyes on. We had a super late check-in due to traffic and work, but a staff member was kind enough to stay behind and made sure we were all accommodated for before leaving the premise. The delicious western style breakfast was prepared and cooked freshly in the morning, and the option to have it in the comfort of our room was also available. The open design with no separation from the bed to the shower/bath might not be the best layout for non-romantic stays. The room was well-equipped with dehumidifier, fancy Panasonic blow dryer, Bluetooth soundbar, large TV (w/ Netflix), etc. In addition to the complimentary snacks and drinks available in the room, more snacks, espresso machine, and instant noodles were also provided in the common area for all. All in all, this was one of the best B&B experience I’ve ever had. 12/10.

- MaxLauGY (10/5): Highlight of my Taiwan Trip - If you find this place expensive initially, don’t worry, you are not alone. However, i decided to try it out since it looks cosy and beautiful in the photos. I stayed there for 2 nights and i could say that it was WORTH every single dollar. What you are paying for is not just the room, but the effort and detailed touches that the host had made. The amount you pay includes breakfast cooked by themselves and it was good, teatime cakes, help in planning of your tour around sun moon lake and also the hospitality from the hosts. There were also free cup noodles, coffee if you need :) And yes, did i mention that me and my wife are vegetarian. We pre-informed the host and they specially prepared vegetarian food for us and introduce places with vegetarian food around sun moon lake. What i was most amazed is that there were netflix, IQIYI and many more VIP network shows for you to watch. The hosts subscribes to them. In addition, the bathtub was awesome with bath salts provided and many more amenities. Everything was amazing and it was definitely the highlight of the trip. I would come back to sun moon lake probably not for the food but just to enjoy the room. Thank you for the hospitable and awesome stay.

- Curiosity46803588178 (10/5): Great Accomodation - Shaoguang 188 - The location for Shao Guang 188 was convenient, within walking distance from Shuishe Visitor Center. The room was spacious and well decorated, providing a homely feel. Most importantly, the staffs are friendly and host us very well.
- Mictory (10/5): Little piece of heaven in Sun Moon Lake - I stayed here in 2017 and loved it so much I came back to stay again in 2018. The property is perfect - i) location is right next to the Shuishe bus stop and just mins away from the Shuishe pier ii) service is top notch with very polite care takers iii) breakfast, tea, snacks are provided and taste heavenly iv) room and communal areas are clean, spacious, and super beautiful - every corner is designed and decorated with heart - when I show people photos of the place, everyone goes 'omg so nice!' vi) the huge bath tub is lovely and I wish I could soak in it everyday <3 Overall, my stay was 100% pleasant and super relaxing, an experience that I will keep thinking about for months to come. I would definitely go back (again!). The only draw-back for families / groups of friends / conservative folks may be the 100% open concept toilet and bath (no where to hide while you do your business hahaha)
- mattpan32 (10/5): Most charming, homeliest B&B that we have ever stayed at! - My wife and I have had our fair share of 5 star luxury hotels stays throughout Southeast Asia and Europe, but never something as homely and charming as Shaoguang 188. With only 3 rooms at the cosy B&B, we were very warmly welcomed and hosted by Yuan and his boss, the owner of the place. The interior of the room which we stayed at (山隐,I believe) was beautiful. Clean, modern, spacious, and a bit of a Japanese style. Huge TV, I think 55" at least? And with.. NETFLIX! We even skipped Qingjing just to stay in the room and enjoy our last day. :) They even provided face masks, which my wife and I duly used while watching our beloved Netflix. Breakfast was amazing. It was like having our very own private chef surprising us with different breakfast every morning. The owner of the place is a brilliant chef, love the food. 好吃! Yuan was also really helpful as he took the liberty to walk us to the bicycle rental shop. Apparently there was an ongoing promotion for tourists and we could have 2 hour free bicycle rentals. Had an enjoyable time with my wife cycling around the lake. It's voted one of the top 10 cycling routes in the world btw, another good reason to head to Sun Moon Lake. Huge thanks for the great hospitality! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. No wonder reviews are 9.6/10 on Booking.com. Thoroughly deserved! :)

- Gavin_May18 (10/5): Visiting Sun Moon Lake - Guesthouse was excellent. Well styled and well finished, with a really comfortable bed. I found the stay really relaxing after having spent some time in Taiwan's cities. Host was helpful. Wish I'd stayed for longer!

The staffs are very helpful and very friendly while the breakfast and - the coffee - was wonderful!
- ivanw619 (10/5): Awesome stay - This is one of the best hotel I’ve experienced. The interior design is just right on, very cozy with lots of different plants around to create the spring season. And the room is well facilities and clean.The staff are very friendly and helpful.They also make good breakfast and coffee.The location is convenient, 3mins walk to traveller information center and 6mins to the pier where u can take the boat to appreciate the Sun Moon Lake. Big love to the hotel and for sure will visit again!!!

- Joshua (8/5): A great stay at 188 - I would say it's more B&B than hotel. The staff is fantastic. They really work hard to make your stay the best possible. There are only 3 units so it's relatively quiet, they prepare you a fantastic home cooked western fusion style breakfast in the morning (you reserve a time), and the room is kept in excellent shape. You have access to fruit and bowls of instant noodles in the kitchen if desired and the room is outfitted with decent coffee, tea, juice, water, and snacks. My only complaint is that there is a loss of hot water when other units are using the shower. The location is just steps from the bus stop and meters from the pier. Pros: overall room quality, well stocked in room and in shared kitchen space, TV & channels with on demand, comfortable bed, location, Cons: no hot water if multiple units are using the shower Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay again if I ever end up back in the area.
- Jen (10/5): awesome host, room and amenities - room was the best we had in our 2 weeks stay in Taiwan. Room was clean, and big. The amenities they provided was comprehensive, especially for female occupants (ranging from face mask to pad!). Even provided TV programs via netflix etc. host even went through all the amenities that provide, how to operate them etc. They even provided tea and snacks for tea break. Their breakfast was ig-able and delicious, we ate everything they provided. restaurant standard. they even had deals for attractions nearby (discounted ferry tickets etc). friendly host, as we arrived late they gave us advise on how to maximize our time there.
- Jack (10/5): Great Place to Stay - Great hotel, with a modern interior design. Very conveniently situated next to where the bus from Taichung drops passengers off. The staff was extremely accommodating, and made the stay very comfortable and homey. Nice spa style hot tub was a great way to relax after a full day of biking and hiking.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect - This was an amazing hotel - personal and friendly. The room is superb, better than most 5 star hotels out there. Super comfortable bed, everything new and modern and beautiful. Breakfast was amazing, best coffee I ever had, and fresh fruits and salad, along with a delicious hot meal. They catered for my vegetarian request as well.

- Verified traveler (6/5): My Stay - The hotel does not look like a hotel to me. It looks like a luxurious family-run hostel. The staff are friendly and helpful though, they are mainly uni students and are only available until 5.30 p.m.everyday. After that nobody seems to manage the 'hotel'. I occupied a room that has an open-styled concept leaving no walls between bathroom, toilet and bedroom. The room may not be ideal for normal friends. The wall is also too plain.
