Guest Reviews
- Stephanie (10/5): - ☆☆☆☆☆
- Stephanie (10/5): - Nice clean
- James (2/5): - I didn't like the price or the property. It's the worst hotel I've ever seen!
- Michelle (2/5): - The entire property was run down. The room was smelly. The towels dingy. No lamp shade/cover. The mattresses were hard and I can feel a spring protruding from one of the mattresses. Staff was rude. Air conditioning sucked. The most horrible experience. Paid $274 for an over night stay in this rat hole
- Jeffrey (2/5): - They can't get me a room because of some problem with expedia
- Jim (4/5): - It is an older place and has not been brought up over the years. The staff is limited and barely speak English. Smoking is permitted in all rooms and it smells it
- juan (2/5): - The first room they gave me smelled like the most unbearable ashtray. The second room was no better cigarette smoke and three cans of Lysol to hide the pungent scent. The toilet had a yellow ring around it and yes two pubic hairs on the seat. The mattress cover had all kind of un-imaginable stains. The wall and ceiling had dirt smudges. The dresser had the bottom drawer missing. The microwave over the mini fridge was a nice touch would not put anything in that warm moldy fridge. The bathroom towels felt like sand paper with an unclean smell to it. The place is so nasty and shady I would not recommend it to a homeless person. Like the other reviews I read the owner will respond to this one with improper grammar how the place is so clean and better than my house. Do your self a favor pay the extra 20 dollars to get a better place than this .
- Zemya (4/5): - The front door didn’t close all the way, a staff member went into my room while I was out, and the bedding was uncomfortable, scratchy, and cheap. But it was right next to the bridge, everything you needed to go to (store wise) was within walking distance. And it was a decent price
- Kimmy (2/5): - Not what I expect and didn’t worth my money. Wouldn’t recommend 😡
- Sheila (2/5): Not impressed - The room was dirty, one outlet that had one opening available, the ac barely worked, it smelled horrible, and had nothing to offer.
- John (4/5): - Room was a disgusting mess
- Mike (2/5): - My sheets had cigarette burnt spots on them!
- Julio (2/5): - Was definitely not worth the money, around $200 a night to sleep in a room that smells like cigarettes and is infested with bugs.
- Tim (10/5): - When I went to the front desk to ask for a different room because ours smelled like smoke, the nice lady at the counter informed me that there was a window, and advised me to open it. When I tried to make sure I heard her right, she was nice enough to draw a window in the air with her fingers and mime opening it. It’s nice to stay at a place with such high quality service and helpful staff, equipped with timely advice when it’s needed.
- Agustin (2/5): - A really nasty place sink was leaking the TV. It was only one channel the bet it was filthy and bugs all over the place.
- John (2/5): - The room was terrible. Dirty and in desperate need of a whole renovation
- TERESA M (4/5): - The room had roaches! It was late and i had no choice but to stay. I refused to bring in my luggage because I didn't want to bring them with me. Then i was worried all night about someone breaking into my car to stael everything and i didn't get any sleep. Next time i will pay more attention to reviews!!!
- Tyler (2/5): Needs to be shut down - Do not book here the place is a slum and refused my refund after only 30 minutes. Save your money and your health book somewhere else
- Julie (2/5): Disappointed and disgusted - The place is very dirty. Sheets had dirty spots floor was sticky. The lady was very nasty she yelled at us for asking for new sheets she said she didn’t speak English and had to wait until the morning. I felt so humiliated I had my kids with me and couldn’t let them sleep there so we left. They wouldn’t refund us, just a run down place and very unfriendly
- Jose (10/5): - Me gustó porque todos los establecimientos de comida es cerca,
- Lisa Marie (2/5): Water bugs everywhere. - I never experienced a horrible stay at THE SHELTON until this past weekend. I encountered sooooo many water bugs everywhere. It was gross. Crawling all over my face. Never again.
- Jerome (2/5): Avoid if possible - Bed bugs, roaches and ants were all present in my room. Couldnt even stay there for the one night I paid for. No refunds. Waste of money. Wish I had taken pictures before I left.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I didnt expect much from the cheapest hotel in the area , but it was very disappointing. It was very pricey for a hotel that was dirty and falling apart. Burn holes in the sheets and covers, dirt on the floor and shower, paint chipping, and fridge was warm. The lady there was friendly but switched my room 3 times and had to grab different keys for them all. Such a waste of money and felt like i was going to get bed bugs from here .
- Verified traveler (2/5): - the smell in the room was so bad i had to buy a fan for my entire stay. everything was bare bones cheap. just a dump.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This place was terrible. It was dirty and i will never stay there again.
- Maria P (2/5): not good - There is small curly hair on the washcloth then on the blanket! Fridge and microwave are old. Windows are dusty.
- Hailey (2/5): - HIGHLY DO NOT RECCOMEND.
Rooms are dirty. Smells like mold. Service is rude.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The bathroom was filthy. There were 2 dead flies in the toilet and pubic hair on the seat. The towels were old and ratty and had hair in them. I considered trying to get a different room but I was so tired after being awake for over 24 hrs I wrapped a shirt around the pillow and went to sleep. In the morning I told the woman at the desk that maybe they forgot to clean that room. I wanted nothing just to let her know. She started yelling at me so I just left.
- marie (6/5): - Mice
Not impressed
We will not be staying here again
- Jackie (2/5): Don't Stay Here!!! - Filthy room, completely outdated, wall sockets loose, refrigerator and microwave didn't work, chipped and peeling paint stains on mattress and box springs. Had to strip beds and go to Walmart to buy new sheets and pillows so we could sleep on the disgusting mattresses. Sat on their bedspreads for five minutes and had itchy bites on us!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - When I arrived to check-in, the gentleman in the office could not speak English; therefore, i had to sit in the car with the children for about 17 mins until someone else arrived who could check us in. After commuting 2 hrs to get there, it was disappointing. We reserved a non-smoking room but of course we received a room that smelled like an ashtray (it was horrible) and i had to request another room. We were moved to another room, and it had a stove BUT we were asked NOT to use it🙁 The fridge was unclean, although everything else appeared to be okay. The motel was close to many stores, which offered convenience but good luck getting out of the parking lot and onto the main road! Traffic is everflowing and the stop lights are blocks apart so you may be sitting there awhile. Oh and THEY LIED ABOUT THE WIFI!!! THERE ISNT ANY.....
- Brandon (2/5): Worst hotel ever!!! - Worst hotel I have ever booked with you guys. Air conditioner was broken, the room smelled like cigarettes, housekeeping had to be told multiple times to clean the room, and even after they “cleaned” the room was still dirty, the floor was never swept or mopped, towels still had hair on them, also police were at the one of the rooms in the motel for a man that was attacked, I overheard them say this is a known prostitution motel and asked the man if he was involved in any of that activity which caused him to be attacked by the female and her male accomplice! This hotel should be removed from this website immediately!
- Karen A. (2/5): Run for the hills! - Why would anyone want to stay here? Room smelled of stale smoke, outdated furniture b not even a paved parking area. Very shabby. Office was not air conditioned and the worker not polite. Run for the hills or sleep in a park.
- MrSantos (8/5): - We stayed here for a night when we attended the Nj Jeep Invasion. Check-in was quick. Lot is a dirt lot so your car will be full of dust by the time you get out of there. Inside was extremely outdated & old looking. Price was best we can find at the time due to NJ Jeep Invasion taking place. Would stay again if it was only me & just needed an place to sleep for the night.
- David (4/5): - You get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - My stay at the motel was good. The staff was nice and the rooms were clean! The room could use a little touching up with the walls but for the little time we spent in the room it was just fine! Thanks for the great room service everyday! You kept us with clean towels and nice new sheets
- Dennis (2/5): Terrible - It was filthy and very scary
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Girl behind the counter didn’t really understand anything I was asking about check out kept repeating her self room had bugs
- Verified traveler (2/5): Live and learn - The smell in the room was overpowering. The bed was soft and linens seemed clean. We booked it because it was so close to our conference location. We only stayed one night of our two night booking. Couldn’t hack the smell.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Managers are great. Property is dated, needs some paint and s good clean.
- Robert (8/5): Good - I thought it was a quiet stay n everything worked ,TV,ac,n all lights...hot water was good n clean place...
- Timothy (10/5): Clean , quiet and great wifi . - A very quiet small clean motel. PERFECT for a business trip. Clean quiet a great wifi .
- Mitch (6/5): - No chairs with backs; had to bring in a beach chair from the walkway outside; tis did not work well for using my laptop (I was there for work).
When I tried to reserve the room by phone, the person to whom I spoke couldn't understand my English.
I will say, however that the man at the front desk was courteous and showed me how to use what was available.
- dan (4/5): As a last resort - Very old and in need of many up grades
A.c. was cold . STANGE PEOPLE knocking at my door.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I was surprised to see the room as needing paint and newer furniture. We had to request additional towels as the ones on the rack was not clean. It had a old dusty smell. If we were staying more than one night I would have lost the one night's amount and went some where else.
- Mel (4/5): Rude Staff - The owner and the staff was rude and the towels were stained and dirty.
- Laura (6/5): Where your dreams go to die.... - We just needed a place to lay our heads for a few hours. It was utilitarian at best. It was the first motel that had a kitchenette and a table with two chairs. It also had a microwave and small fridge. To be honest, I would have actually liked it if it wasn't for the overwhelming smell of old cigarettes that permeated the room. There was no shower head and no basic amenities. There was also a rat trap in one of the cabinets on top of the sink.
- Sabrina (2/5): Awful place - Had to call the police because management barged in my Room and they said they couldn't be paid to stay there.
- Verified traveler (4/5): seen better days - I'm sure this motel was fine back in 1960, but most of the furniture in the room seemed to be in continuous use since then. The pillowcases and sheets seemed laundered, but they had black smudges on them, apparently from previous mishaps. The bed was comfortable, and the AC worked fine, although it cycled on and off loudly. The floor and bathroom were ok, but the shower water had very little pressure, even though all the rooms are on the ground floor. The proprietor was friendly enough, and there was a new tv and a small fridge and microwave. The windows had blinds (dirty) but no curtains, so sunlight streamed in at 5:30am. We chose this motel for one night on July 4th weekend when there was nothing available in Cape May. Glad that at least we found a room, but we would not stay there again.
- mike (6/5): The towel is too old, need to change new one. - It is great location. Lots of restaurant nearby. Quiet motel. But the towels is too hard, need to get the new one.
The owner is kind and responsible, remind me several time by phone.
- Lauren (2/5): Too Dirty - If you seen the movie Vacancy, you'll probably get my drift on how this place looks. This was the only place available for me to book due to a wedding I had to attend in Cape May. The room had a weird smell to it and everything just looked so outdated and needs some help. The bed sheets had cigarette holes in them and the blinds were all damaged. There were no sheets on the bed except for the fitted sheet, but I did sleep comfortably which is the only plus to it. I walked around the room carefully like a thief about to rob a house. I even took a shower with my flip flops on. The only good thing I liked was the cable and the fact that it was close to stores near the highway. This place can do so much more since it is on a very busy highway, but it needs some help in the worst way.
