Guest Reviews

- Kirsten (9/5): - Zentrale Lage, sehr freundliches Personal, schömer Pool. An Silvester nettes Barbecue für die Gäste. Die Aircon funktioniert nicht besonders umd sollte mal gewartet werden.
- Muhammad maha (10/5): - Quiet but near to everywhere Not much
- Eline (9/5): - The location, the friendly staff and the pool! A bit a small room!
- Marta (7/5): -
- Bjoern (10/5): - Alles: Pool, Staff, Location, breakfast
- Marieke (9/5): Amazing little homestay! - This homestay is one of the best we’ve stayed in during our 4 month travels! The room and bathroom are very clean and comfortable (amazing hot shower!!) and the whole place just breathes good vibes. The family that runs it makes sure you are having the best time and are super friendly! Big bonus: the super cute black fluffy cat! Nothing
- Bridget (10/5): Great location, lovely peaceful place - Quiet tucked away spot in a great part of the city, close to many good restaurants and interesting shops. Handy having the use of the kitchen. Owners were lovely and helpful.
- Jasmine (8/5): highly recommend staying here ! - very nice, the bed was comfy and we enjoyed chilling around here. the staff are also very nice and helpful and there is a cute little black cat who liked to sit with us :)
- Andre (9/5): Superb - A very familiar homestay that would make your stay as comfortable as possible.
- Steve (8/5): Very good -
- Jeroen (10/5): Exceptional - Great place with great and helpful people
- Maria (9/5): Superb - The athmosphere was very good,
the owner very helpful,
i got excellent information

- Sirisome (8/5): Very good -
- Greg (10/5): The best place we stayed at! - Venezia Homestay has so far been the most memorable place we stayed during our South East Asia trip.
This gorgeous homestay offers great facilities; a spacious room, an open-top shower, a lovely pool, lots of stunning garden space and more.
Our host Aji was fantastic, friendly and without him and his team this place wouldn't be the same. We enjoyed many conversations together and felt that we became good friends during our stay! We had a problem with the AC on the first day, and Aji quickly serviced the machine to get it to work.
The breakfast was fantastic, and we got to try various local meals during our visit. Every morning we also received tasty fruit. There is a communal fridge that you can use. There is free coffee and tea and a kitchen for use too.
The place is well-located and easy to get around. We made many trips to all the sights in Yogyakarta with a grab. There are many shops, cafes, restaurants and other facilities, such as a laundry shop nearby.
We miss the sounds of the mosque and geckoes at night! Thank you so much for such a memorable, fantastic stay. We wish you all the best and hope to be able to see you again. Terima kasih banyak! Sound travels easily and sometimes kids swim here early (7 am) so good idea to bring ear plugs.
- Ilia (7/5): Good - This is very authentic place with the very welcoming staff, it's also calm and peaceful (unless some extravertial guests won't have fun in the pool).
Breakfasts are simple but hearty. Unlimited coffee and tea.
Fair value. I would rate it higher if the bathroom was cleaner and without those stinky anti-insect pills on the shower floor.
- Nedko (10/5): Excellent stay - Quiet and chill place with laid back and friendly owner. Easy check in and check out. Would go back.
- Zdenka (7/5): Good - nice, small garden inside the city the mosque is really close and they start to pray at 3 in the night
- Magetsimon (9/5): Superb - The mosquee at 4AM...
But that's a low price to pay for everything else that was perfect.
- Katarina (8/5): Good value and clean ! - A cute environment with very decent rooms.
Clean !
Kind and friendly staff.
Functional wifi.
Free drinking water.
Scrambled eggs or fried noodles for breakfast.
Well located.
Would stay here again ! The homestay is exactly besides a mosque, so the prayer calls in the middle of the night and morning are very loud and the sound isolation is very poor.
The bathrooms only have thin bamboo doors.
The pool is more for decoration than for use.
- Stacey (10/5): chill place with cool staff and cute cat - cat!
friendly staff - very informative about Indonesian life and local tours
very zen and chill
front and rear garden/places to sit
- Grace (7/5): Good - Very friendly and helpful staff at the hostel.
Good location with stuff going on nearby and nice outdoor space to relax in.
- Abigael (9/5): Superb - The room is really nice and the property as well, it’s perfectly located. The staff is really helpful The pool was not clean so we did not use it
- Izzy (8/5): Lovely garden homestay in great location - Lovely little homestay in a good location in Yogyakarta. Stayed in a private room which were small but comfortable with a wardrobe, AC, multiple plugs and an outdoor shower with hot water! The location was near to an indomart, restaurants and Jl. Prawirotaman street which had lots of cafes, restaurants and bars on. Staff were really friendly and helpful with arranging trips. Only downsides were that the pool looked abit cloudy so we didn’t go in, but it did get cleaned regularly. The musalla and speaker phone were next to the home stay meaning we were woken up every morning at 5am because it was extremely loud even with earplugs!
- Martin (8/5): Very good - Good location..one of the only places I stayed in with a reading lamp next to the bed.
Great bed and nice sheets. A bit noisy. The sound of the mosque, but that is in so many places in Java, but I was sleeping on the ground floor and could almost understand the people next to me or above me...couldn't figure that out.
- Zelia (9/5): Superb - The location was good, the room was comfortabe with AC. The pool was nice and the breakfast was simple but good. I would definitively come back. The staff was really kind and helpful I think that the team can improve their intern communication as I asked beforehand to extend my stay (it got approved), checked 2 times during my stay if that was ok (it was) and the day o f the extension they told me we had to move. I argued and showed them that I had the confirmation and could stay but that was not a pleasant expérience.
- Serly (9/5): It was a very pleasant stay at Venezia Homestay. We had good experiences :) - We did enjoy everything at the homestay, especially the swimming pool. The breakfast was good, and they offered either Asian or Western breakfast. The staff members were very friendly. Mas Achmad and mas Ajik were very nice and helpful. The location of the homestay was quite strategic. It was located in a quite area, perfect for a quite evening while listening to water fountain in the homestay. If you want to have a little night life, the area was not far from Prawirotaman (could be reached by walking), which I called a little Bali. Cleanliness was fine. It was clean, but could be better. If I had a chance, I would like to stay there again :) So far, everything was fine, but room cleanliness could be better.
- Veronica (10/5): Superb spot in jogja! - Beautiful place (room was beautiful! Garden / shared area was lush and cute!). Very friendly staff! James answered many of our questions. Good breakfast and good location! The pool was super too. Nothing! We had a room on the second floor (which was quieter and more private than rooms on the first floor which face the pool; if you’re a light sleeper you might want to request a second floor room)
- Safari34992259096 (10/5): Would 100% stay here again! - HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this hostel to anyone! I would give more than 5 stars if possible. Very nice and clean accommodations, comfortable beds and the staff were the best!
They are extremely knowledgeable about the local area and suggestions for local attractions. Very helpful with booking ongoing travel plans as well.
Only great things to say about my stay here!
100% will stay here again when I return to Yogyakarta.
- Wala (10/5): I went for a night and I extended to 4. I had an obligation to live otherwise I would've stayed more - I like the stay in Venezia so much, I even extended to 4 days instead of one night. Aji is a very smart and fun person, you can have endless discussion with him. He helped me with every single thing with my trip from booking my train to Jakarta to updating my trip details, he was always there to give a hand and help me with the best tips. His brother James too is very smart and we had very good discussion about history and startups.
- Bravo (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice place, picefull and the staff are the best, in especific Achmed and Ajik!
always with a good actitude!
Thanks for this days!

always with a good actitude!
Thanks for this days!
- Iveta (8/5): Great swimming pool. - Swimming pool and very friendly and helpful staff. They organized for us fantastic snorkelling trip for good price. Noise from other quests staying up till late night.¨
No fridge available for guests.
- Aidan (8/5): Very good - The bed was comfortable and the atmosphere of the stay was nice. The staff were friendly and accommodating. There is a convenience store and shops nearby. The air conditioning did not work for me and the shower was open to the outside, so be careful of mosquitos (they did offer a mosquito repellant alternative for the room, though didn't always work). As in othe reviews, the mosque can get very loud, though not for too long in my opinion.
- Baskara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Louis (7/5): Good - Great friendly staff, good cheap stay.
- Simon (9/5): Good central location, friendly staff, and handy alarm for those who love to get up very early. - Friendly staff, good location. Motorbike rental made things easy. Chill vibe to the place. Good food options within walking distance of the homestay too. I hate to say this because it sounds bad, but the Muslim call to prayer from the mosque next door woke me up each morning at 4am which wasn't great.
- Enrico (10/5): Exceptional - lovely and clean room! And all staff nice. And super quite road Only thing is a mosque is very very close so...yes it will wake you up unless you are use to it or earplug.
Otherwise, quite hard to find something wrong.
- Rodrigo (8/5): Very good - Staff in amazing and the location too.thabks for everything
- Catrin (9/5): Great value for money. James and his family really make this place what it is. As a solo traveler they welcomed me in an - Would 100% recommend staying here. James is the loveliest person I have met so far, really went above and beyond!
- Gloria (9/5): Superb - Swimming pool for a nice dip and staff are very accomodating. The smell of the sewer coming from the bathroom
- Floriana (6/5): Pleasant -
- Audrenlap (9/5): Superb -
- Jan (7/5): Great stay, earplugs might be required - Really nice host and location Can get really loud at night, you can here your neighbours above you at night as if there next to you
- Sven (9/5): Superb - - pool
- staff
- airconditioning
- Farkhi (8/5): Very good -
- Guillaume (8/5): Very good -
- Onno (9/5): Superb -
- Félix (7/5): Good - Friendly and very helpful staff The mosquée pasted to the homestay, very loudy at any kind of hour
- Simone (6/5): Sweet hotel. disappointing pool area - The room was a bit small but comfy. Bathroom was huge - fun with the open air shower! Smooth and honest booking for Borobudur! Tbh, it was a disappointment that the pool was half empty. Also the pool area in general was tiny - no room to actually chill by the pool (had it been full)
We ended up paying day fee at a neighbor hotel to use their pool are.
- Mayke (8/5): Very good -
- nirwans22 (10/5): Very nice - Very nice hostel with clean swimmingpool, delicous and diversified breakfast (for free).
The staff is friendly and extremly helpful when it comes to activities around Yogja. James organized an awesome trip to Mount Merbabu, we did a cooking class and Andy and John told us everything about the independence day.
The atmosphere is great, not only because of the staff (sometimes they play guitarre for you) but because of the bar and the pool.
The hostel could be located a little bit more in the center but nearby there are many nice bars and restaurants+a drive to the center costs only 30.000 rupia (less than 2€).
The private rooms for two persons are comfortable, the dorms are okay (we tested everything).
Thanks for the great week in Yogja!
Ps.: Go to the banana-bar and order the blue-burning Cocktail;)
- lili16led (2/5): Worst travel agency ever - Extremely disappointed.
They charged us 84$ each from Surabaya airport to Mount Bromo and then Ijen Lake and the boat to Bali. They told us the price was so high because of private taxi. Finally we were full and not discount. Bus/taxi driver were crasy, we had to tell them to slow down. Finally at Ijen Lake they forgot to give us the mask, we had to pay. And then to go to Bali they said ticket is booked but you can go whenever you want during the day, at the end we had to pay it again cause we took it later.
Such a touristic area, just for money!!!
- BossEdan (10/5): Nice hostel, recommended! - The room had a large bed and good working airconditioning, the badroom was clean and spacious. The staff was very helpfull especially Ujat who helped us arrange trips and shared a lot of information which is about the city, it was really nice talking to him. Yoga was also really nice helping us arrange a bus ride back to Jakarta and he even brought us to the station in his free time, out stay in Venezia gardens was an overall nice experience, thanks to the helpfull staff they we're always prepared to help us with all our questions, we would come back here again. Definitely recommended!!
- BobWorldTour (2/5): Claimed they didn't have reservation and sent us to far worse hotel - We had a prepaid reservation on hotels.com. Nonetheless, when we arrived, the hotel claimed not to have the reservation. We did not believe them, but because it was already after midnight we had little choice but to accompany them to a much worse hotel that they recommended (with no discount). Please save yourself the trouble and stay elsewhere. At best, they are incompetent. At worst, they are dishonest.
- samuelmV8743OM (10/5): Very nice hostel with even nicer people! - We stayed for one night (planning on going back in a couple days) and was very pleased with everything! Pool was refreshing, beds comfy, great food and a cute cat! Staff were very nice — especially Aan who cooked a mean breakfast and spent time getting to know us and about Canada! Definitely recommend this place.
- jemieh2018 (10/5): Relaxing homestay - Nice room and swimming pool
Nice food
Very friendly staff
room service is good
clean
Good bar good beer
I meet ocid and tika and go to the highschool to ask students learning English and motivated them to improve
Good experience
- Natalieperrett59 (10/5): Cool place - Not much of a vibe but it was quiet when we went there. The rooms and communal area were great. Bathrooms in particular was nice. Our room was spacious and comfortable and overlooked the pool area. Had a bar which served drinks and food. Staff helped us organise a range of tours and trips.
- Y421TBnathang (10/5): Chill vibe - I met Ocid on the street and he directed me to Venezia Garden. I enjoy my stay, very relaxed atmosphere. Its in a good area with other hostels, bars, and restaurants. They also offer tours around yogyakarta
- brendam2018 (10/5): Great Service - A beautiful hostel to take time to chill out not to mention the good location, close to restaurants and bars. The pool is a plus as well. Ocid and the boys are very nice and helpful! Thanks for the great service guys
- 743jesperj (10/5): Can only be described as an amazing stay - I just finished a 3 night stay at Venezia Garden, and oh boy it was great! First of all it is a dirt cheap place, so value for money is sensational! Clean beds, cozy pool, good breakfast and a nice bar! The staff, however, is what really makes the difference! Johed offered an excellent service in a free guided tour around Yogyakarta city. He knew all the good places around town. Ocid was nothing short but amazing! A funny guy, who really gave an exceptional service both in terms of booking tours but also your general needs! Dirga and Jon were also really nice to talk with. If you want a great place to stay in Yogyakarta do not go anywhere else!
- 493diogom (10/5): Very nice place to relax in Jogja - Venezia Garden is a very friendly place to stay in Yogyakarta. It's pretty cheap to stay there and the conditions are good for the price. It has also a small swimming pool, really nice to relax after visiting the temples. Staff members are very cool and friendly, they give a lot of good tips. We had dinner one of them, Ocid, a really nice and funny guy who took us to a very good and cheap restaurant with tradicional food from Sumatra.
- gon_alom43 (10/5): My stay at Venezia Garden - It was great staying here. Very very good people, become friends with with the staff who were very kind :-) Ocid, one of the staff members, was a very good friend, took us out for dinner at a nice Indonesian restaurant. Only good things to say. And has a swimming pool!
- traveling2018now (10/5): Amazing stay - I had a great stay, the hostel was great but especially the staff was amazing. They were so helpful and we went together to see the sunrise at Borobudur, we cooked together and they even helped me to book my flight. So thank you Ocid, Derga and Jon I had a blast :)
- PatKR (10/5): Musical soiree - My third trip to Jogjakarta and I wouldn't stay anywhere other than Venezia Gardens. The location is walking distance from the best reggae and jazz bars, food market, trendy cafes, art galleries and street art. The people running the place are friendly and great fun. They serve the best gado gado Ive ever tasted! It's ok to wear shorts and swim in bikinis within the compound without feeling like its inappropriate. Best of all..... it's a musical hotspot at night with the musos crawling out of their caves to jam together. Music every night...but away from the guests who want it quiet. What a blast! Cant wait to return!
- 858zuzanas (10/5): Skvely hostel - Great hostel, nice location in center, kind people and pool, what is more wish 😊? On the reception stuff prepare a lot of fruit coctails and they offer nice trip at surrounding of Yogyakarta and to Borobudur and Prambanan
- ssaramolina (10/5): Very good!!! - We stayed for 4 nights in Venezia Garden and we couldnt be happier about our choice: great location, nice staff, clean, comfortable rooms and good food at a very good price. Also first Night they organized a BBQ with Music and very good vibes! Only downside: There is a mosque nearby adn you hear the prayers every Night at 4 a.m.!
- juliettep301 (6/5): A bit of a disappointment - We booked on AirBnb something that looked very charming and confortable to live in. Maybe our expectations were too high, but the reality was slightly different.
To list a few things that didn't match the Airbnb description :
-The AC was good at sputtering a few warm blows at our faces, but didn't cool the room at all
-The doors between the outside/room and bathroom/room (with an open-sky shower) had holes and gaps in them large enough to let a family of mozzies come have supper every night
-The Hosts were barely present and breakfast was NOT provided. The pool was in maintenance all along without warning.
-And finally, It was not written in the description that the closest mosque is close enough to wake you every morning at 4 am. Can't really complain, but you can when you couldn't sleep until 1.30 am because of the moans and grunts of the upstairs neighbours.
Overall our stay is rated 3 stars because it was ok, but we're just a bit mad about what we listed above.
Thanks anyway, but we won't be booking Room 2 anytime soon,
Etienne and Juliette
- irisv250 (10/5): Lovely welcoming place! - I really enjoyed my stay at Venezia Garden! The garden (as the name promises) is a great place to hang out, there is a nice refreshing pool, it's tidy and clean and you can order some really nice food or drinks from the bar! The atmosphere is really nice and welcoming, thanks to the staff that is so friendly and always in for a chat and willing to help you with anything! Definitely recommend going here!
