baroht (2/5): Don’t waste your money coming! - The exterior views and decoration is what initially tamed us to book a room for two nights , later on when interacting the infrastructure is where our expectations hit rock bottom. The tap is rusty including the whole washroom being moldy and smelly. Microwave and fridge are rusty and not maintained as well. Mirror rot.dirty curtains and smelly bedsheet. Bursted net which cannot protect you from mosquitoes. No hot shower since the stingy owner uses only solar panels to store energy which is effortlessly gets finished by other residents (whoever takes shower first) , don’t expect to have hot showers at all . Expect showering with cold and salty shower. After getting disappointed and having our first night in Mombasa ruined , we have requested to leave the resort and get a refund for the second night which we did not intend to stay. The manager by the name Nick promised to have us compensated but later on went on smearing us like butter throughout the whole day and did not pick our calls upon disappearing from the compound . Real snake in the grass. Unfortunately we had to leave Kenya right away and couldn’t stay for demanding and securing our refund. To summarize - don’t get close to that place, very wicked manager and owner. Imagine 10000kes for night being extorted from you just to get your nights completely ruined. TERRIBLE

darshis2017 (8/5): Peaceful Eco-Lodge Stay by the Sea - We stayed at Ziwa Beach Resort in July 2025 for a few days of relaxation after climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and had a lovely, peaceful stay. The food was good with a large choice of vegetarian options and different cuisines, and breakfast each morning had fresh fruit, eggs made to order, fresh juices, and traditional Kenyan food. The rooms were spacious, made with natural materials, and our sea-facing room with a balcony was perfect for relaxing. The surroundings were quiet and peaceful, allowing us to be close to nature, apart from some ongoing works to enhance the hotel. The owner, Nitin, was very welcoming and made us feel at home. The only improvements would be to address the salty water in the sink and shower and to install some sun umbrellas which are portable. Overall, Ziwa is a really nice, quiet eco-lodge for anyone looking to unwind by the sea.

dPatel86 (10/5): A Hidden Gem on Bamburi Beach - We’ve just returned from a wonderful 5-day family getaway at Ziwa Beach Resort, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. Located right on the shores of Bamburi Beach, the resort offers stunning ocean views from the deck, which quickly became our favorite spot to relax and take in the coastal beauty. The rooms are conveniently close to the beach and pool area, making it very easy to move around, especially with kids in tow. Speaking of which, the staff were incredibly warm and accommodating with our children, which made a big difference in how relaxed we felt throughout our stay. One of the unique aspects of Ziwa is its vegetarian restaurant—something we really appreciated. The food was delicious, fresh, and reasonably priced. Just a heads-up: because everything is made to order, you’ll need to order in advance and give the kitchen time to prepare. But the wait is worth it! And for those craving seafood or meat, there are plenty of beachside restaurants just a short walk away. The breakfast was basic but functional, and given the overall laid-back, peaceful vibe of the place, we didn’t mind keeping things simple in the mornings. All in all, Ziwa Beach Resort is a real hidden gem—perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking to unwind by the ocean. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

dolcifed (4/5): The customer is not out at the center. Avoid - I went to the restaurant for three days. The first two times I ordered food and a big bottle of still water to drink. The third time I noticed that on the menu the price of the water was half the price that they charged me. I confronted the manager with the fact and, while admitting that they had taken double the money, they took out a piece of paper, not signed by me or anyone else, pretending that there was still a bottle to pay. I could not order any food, was encircled by three hard headed people, I told them that I don’t want discussions and that I want to eat. Instead of passing my order to the kitchen they wanted to discuss till I give in. I stood up and went away. I ate at nearby restaurants lido and la casa di nico were I was treated as a king.
Sidney (6/5): - Overall I would recommend. My Oceanside view room was glorious each morning as I watched the sunrise over the beautiful Indian Ocean. Staff was attentive, and professional for the most part. Only one issue was experienced during my seven-night stay. The food. The "included" breakfast is vegetarian as is the restaurant there, so I wound up taking my meals from outside the resort, or I had Uber eats deliver. I believe I paid extra for the breakfast but that's water under the bridge... When a friend and I attempted to bring in food delivery, and dine at an outdoor table in the common area- well let's just say, there was a problem with the staff and management. I was surprised with a stern rebuke by the waitress and then by who appeared to be a manager at the resort. I was told that we could not enjoy a meal with meat in any outdoor dining areas. Hilarious. They serve alcohol, folks are boozing it up, but I received hostility for attempting the crime of eating chicken biryani lol!! Considering that they sell/serve alcohol to their guests, I find it hypocritical that they would be so offended about me having so much as a hamburger! Anyway, that issue was resolved because for the remainder of my stay I took my meals upstairs in my beach-side suite. Be prepared to do the same if you are an omnivore. It's a good, economical resort along a clean stretch of Beach; I might recommend staying there again, just be aware that the staff are sensitive about eating outside food.
249permindert (10/5): We enjoyed the atmosphere and the hospitality at this resort which boasts one of the most beautiful beach fronts - We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful place. The atmosphere, the cleanliness, the service and the attitude of the staff was excellent. You get service with a smile. The food, although vegetarian , is of excellent taste and value for money. We are already planning to go back to Ziwa Beach Resort next year. We will recommend this place to anyone going to Mombasa to enjoy the real Kenyan hospitality

SkyeExperience (10/5): Tranquil - We were recommended Ziwa hotel by a friend. The resort is clean, tidy, exotic and at a perfect location on the beach front. It is somewhat remote so travel is required to reach shops etc. The food was a particular highlight being so well priced and delicious. The omelette and garlic chips were a personal favourite. The resort was peaceful and appeared to be a quiet time of year. The owner (hopefully he can remind me of his name) was lovely, welcoming and gracious. I would love to return for longer as this was a flying 2 day visit.
N6012ATnicon (10/5): Amazing stay, relaxed and unique place on the north coast. - This is a wonderful place and unique on the Kenyan north coast. Not as noisy, huge, impersonal as other big beach resorts along Bamburi Beach, but very welcoming, with a personal touch, cozy and with all amenities one needs during a work trip or beach vacation. I came for 3,5 weeks and had known it from before (2023) when I had tried out the (delicious!) Indian vegetarian restaurant. I did not regret my stay at all: I worked quietly and with some good progress on the beach front veranda, with the very friendly and helpful staff reading all wishes from my lips (or engaging in a nice conversation here and there). The very kind owner, Nitin, invited me for lunch, or for a drink, several times during my stay, but equally gave me and all others all the space I/one needed. The rooms have AC, a fridge, kitchen amenities on the balconies, hot water, water kettle, TV, wifi, and most of the time during my stay I had very stable internet and solid electricity (when there was none, the generator was switched on – these tiny breaks were not at all the fault of Ziwa staff but due to the construction works on the main highway connecting Mombasa and Malindi). Nice and sufficient breakfast (it remains needless to say that there is less variety than in the big resorts – which the hotel also clearly states, but there is fresh, sufficient and diverse food, very tasty and healthy), perfect dinner choice in the à-la-carte restaurant (at a very good price!) and very easy-going vibe: You are free to move and do as you please (not like some of the bigger resorts around where you wait for towels forever, where you are not allowed to take towels to the beach, or where security checks you each time you get back to the veranda or on the hotel grounds...), freedom everywhere at all times. No problem to jump into the pool at midnight (did this several times – should not try this in the many other hotels next door which I have tried out since my first stay in Kenya in 2006). A wonderfully relaxed time and... already booked my next stay, will come back for another work trip in August/September 2024, and I bring several friends and colleagues this time. timo789 (10/5): Unique pocket sized hotel on Bamburi Beach - Ziwa Beach Resort is a unique pocket sized hotel on Bamburi Beach. It is not the typical multi occupancy, concrete, steel and glass building as is the norm in Mombasa. It's presentation is of a simplistic rustic, African plant and fauna background with quality rooms reflecting African art and decor. That is its charm. It is also reflects value for money with rates that are affordable for the tourist. The rooms are en suite and spacious, cleaned each day and bedding changed. The breakfast menu presents a choice of a variety of items to start the day. Ziwa is an exceptional hotel, not run of the mill, and is well worth a stay. This was the second visit with my family and we are planned another stay next year.

Its safe, beautiful and pleasant stay & love to watch the blue sea all around the clock whether its morning or evening or day or night. carolinekV4061CX (8/5): We keep coming back 🔙 to this gem. - Their Egg curry and Chapatti never disappoint. The room is basic and a classic but everything works and we had everything we needed. Friendly staff and great location next to a beautiful beach and exciting beach restaurants and bars. A very green beach hotel with a well maintained garden and use of original materials for decor and theme. We keep coming back!😍
mzungubabe (8/5): Beachside rustic retreat - This small hotel was perfect for a solo weekend trip. Hot shower, comfortable bed, and rustic furnishings. It's right on the beach so you can sit in the restaurant with a cold drink watching the people go by. The food is all vegetarian - great curries! - so if you want seafood you will need to go elsewhere. 10-15 minutes by car from supermarkets and other shops in Nyali.

Eco lodge in Bamburi beach Kenya .the stay was good . Amazing staff very nice views and bedrooms, totally worth visiting and it is incredibly affordable and the food is vegetarian but very full filling .
silverhippo (8/5): You either love Ziwa or you don't. - You either love Ziwa or you don't. -you should be at least a little African-proof. I was in November-December for five weeks and everyday life got better. Of course, the end of the rains and the constant power and water outages helped. -Note Reserve enough fuel for the agricat so things will go better during the rainy season. Vegan food is cheap and good, if you want a large portion, promise a good tip, i.e. bribing is a way to fill your stomach. We remember that the hotel is half a family hotel and the children liven up the swimming area on weekends. -you can always move to the neighboring hotel Indiana pools 3 pcs, which are usually empty and with clearer water, they have white bottoms and Siwa has natural stone bottoms, I think the stones are great. -when going to Indiana via the beach, you buy a beer or two to take with you to the pool and that's it. There is no porridge or sausages/cheese at breakfast, but you can always bring cheeses and sausages and porridge and jukurt from your own kitchen. My fridge was clean as new. The sheets were changed every day and the room service was good, you get a microwave if you want and you can cook for yourself if you want, they bring a gas stove, pots, etc. I thought the security was quite adequate, but if I went to town, I usually locked the door like that and at night I locked the door.
Tony (2/5): - Please do not stay. Dirty cold food manly African. No electricity so they keep running generator but then no electric because generator as to cool down. Only had WiFi 3 days out of 15. Horrible smells in bathroom. So many people complaining, but manager seems not to care . Don’t be fooled by the view. I have traveled to many countries some poor, this is the worst hotel ever . Too many bad things to mention about this place . I urge you don’t book here. So many hotels all along beach to book
T7587ARhelent (2/5): Security very weak - Unfortunately this is the worst experience yet. Our rooms were broken into and we were robbed of all valuables, keys and money, while having dinner in the restaurant. No security was there. People can check in as guests without checking ID and anyone can walk in from the beach. We were scared and no compensation from the hotel itself.
Sandra (10/5): - This place was amazing. The ambience and design was very coastal like with sea shells everywhere. It was right at the waterfront too and staff were very friendly and helpful. It was easily walkable to access other beaches and beach activities and the coral reef was accessible by boats from 10 am to like 2 pm. Malls were also just a 15 minute drive away. It was such a breath taking experience and I think this is where we shall always stay when we visit Mombasa again!

No proper hot water in the shower and the toilet did not flush. Breakfast was basic but acceptable (no meat; bacon, sausages, cold cut, etc. Neither no cheese). Staff were very friendly. The location is good - spot on the beach.

Jasmiina (10/5): Amazing experience at Ziwa! - Our stay at Ziwa Beach Resort was amazing! We had the room with a view to the ocean and the pool on the top floor and it was definitely worth it! The room was beautiful with wooden furniture. It was also kept very clean. Overall very comfortable room with a warm shower too. The pool area and the restaurant of the resort was a great place to hang out. The pool is pretty and clean. The restaurant only served vegetarian food, which was the best! They had local and international dishes and all were tasty and clean. The breakfast was also delicious. The garden at the resort was beautiful and well maintained. The staff was helpful and friendly. The place was not very busy when we visited so it was a great place to relax in peace an quiet. Also the beach next to the resort is awesome.
erickmU388JI (10/5): Fantastic - Best customer service, clean rooms, good healthy breakfast and such good ambience (please choose the Seaview rooms). Nothing beats the waking up to a sunrise through the beach, winds blowing into the room all night. Resort Manager is always available and ready to assist in anyway, but his subordinates do their part so good you'll never need to look for the manager.
ephantusk2014 (8/5): The Stay at Ziwa - Very lovely stay at ziwani. We were a group of 20. The cottages are clean, rustic but very good. Has a jungle environment makes it very cool knowing how hot its in mombasa. Very lovely staff, very helpful. Lovely beds and showers work with shower gel that foams very well and easily. Very lovely balconies.. all ACs worked. The swimming pool was clean and their breakfast was great. It's a vegetarian restaurant so you can do self catering and they provide kitchen ...memos.. utensils. We had a lively time and was a lovely choice for us. Being at beach front..well the experience was great.

sheilakaytravels (6/5): Good location, don't take guest requests seriously hence inaction. - Rooms were good, clean and spacious. The other staff v helpful. Reception wasn't too bothered. You either have good wifi or water! Can't have both. We moved to 812, great wifi, but a trickle to shower and even less to wash hands. After 12 hrs of waiting for plumber nothing changed. Location is excellent and it is well priced. Think basic cottage with some helpful staff. Yes i would go back after lowering of expectations. May be two notches above back-packing!! Go early for breakfast as most items finish by 9!
Getaway285337 (10/5): August Holiday 2022 with family. - Very pleasant site for holiday with everything . Front beach , Jetski , White sand & parking . The list is endless . Staff well trained & very friendly. Security is top-notch. Stayed for 2weeks and felt didn't have enough , tranquility. My husband , son & I enjoyed the deco - art and the uniqueness of the rooms . Michael (4/5): Not Impressed - We stayed at Ziwa Beach Resort for 8 days. There was problems with the wifi, no hot water and power outage for 3 to 4 days of our stay. I complained about this but Ziwa was not accommodating. No offer of a partial refund when we had no power or offering free nights. The price per night was decent but with no phone in the room, I had to walk to the front desk to complain
Captain-Sherm (10/5): Great Hotel and the best most honest staff ever! - From the second I arrived I immediately could tell the staff appreciated you. Yes, it’s Kenya but the hotel was just fine. I felt like I was in the Jungle. Also, it is beach front on the Indian Ocean - so beautiful. When I’m in Mombassa this is where I’ll stay for sure. Big thanks to Nick and Victor and the entire staff for making this a memorable time.

To chase the Poolboy and hire an -unexperiencend- Constructor, was definately a wrong Decission! The Pool is nowadays Overtreated (the Guy don't know what he is doing!), Sand on Floor, burning Eyes, scratching Skin (..). PLEASE, hire someone experienced /train this Construction-Guy (it's mot an big Issue!)!

The Pool nowadays is only "cleaned" (not really..) on the Surface, nobody remove the Sand from the Bottom and the Overdose of Chemicals cause burning Eyes and scretching Skin. PLEASE! Look after the old Poolboy, OR train the new /untrained one.. =there is NOT any Magic behind (..), just Knowledge kidogo!

azhar (4/5): Holiday from hell - Absolutely disasterous. Far away from reception. No power in shower. Found a centipede on the floor day 1. Intermittent internet.no tea or coffee making facilities. I had a kettle and the plug was two pin continental. Yet all sockets are three pin like UK. Lucky I had an adapter. There is no restaurant or cafe.access to beach was ok but dirty beach. Too many beach boys. There was no cooking facilities in case you wished to do so.....there was no cups and glasses either. I had to buy milk and coffee for myself. Location was ok. Staff were wonderful but would like to see the owner spend two days there without these facilities. I spent two days and left for a 5 star comfort for the remaining 7 days.

Toni (8/5): Value for money on the beach - We booked Ziwa Beach Resort in April 2017 via Expedia website and chose Ziwa due to budget, location, description and photos advertised. Unfortunately the resort suffered a major fire in September 2017 destroying the beach front restaurant and some accommodation blocks. We were never informed of this by Expedia so upon arrival we were shocked to see the state of the resort and building work underway to rebuild the resort. The devastation of the restaurant meant that the advertised facilities were not available as there was very limited makeshift kitchen facilities on offer which also led to a vast change in very limited menu on offer. The staff were exceptional and did their best to provide what they could under the circumstances. Building work was noisy, on going everyday from early morning til dusk.

Derek (8/5): Could be a great place with some work. - A recent fire has left the pool and restaurant out of action. We could use a pool of an adjacent hotel, and did every day. We paid for breakfast each morning and ate that down on the beach. I think it is classified as self catering, but this facility is very limited. 2 rooms share an open verandah area with "kitchen", fridge, gas bottle with burner, dining table and seating area. We made tea and ate fruit here, but not enough pans to do any more. The room a/c was very good and quiet, despite the room not being sealed. It was also quite at night, maybe because the bar was closed. The management need to check all the pipes, taps, sinks, lights and sockets. Many were not working. But it was the cheapest place in that area. We found all the staff friendly and helpful. We found the outside seating area was sometimes a cooler place to sit.

Richard (8/5): genuine African experience. on the beach. - situation second to none. hotel is on the beach. genuine african experience. staff very friendly. hotel has a very rustic charm. beautiful beach and indian ocean 10 yards from the bedroom. the experience was fantastic at a very reasonable rate. I had 3 rooms for my family. we all had a fantastic time. breakfast was good but menu at other times more limited but lots of excellent restaurants within 400 m walk on the beach. to enjoy this hotel you must accept that it is in Africa and it is an experience. The electric, hot water and wifi are erratic but if you embrace its querkiness then you will love this place as we did. If you expect perfection then this is not the Hotel for you.
