Guest Reviews
- Khan (2/5): It was the worst place I have ever stayed in. - There was hot water from the shower. There was a TV. there was a window I could open for fresh air. There was a kettle. There was sufficient lighting and a sofa. They replace my heater when the one in the room didn't work. There was a valance that didn't quite cover the worn out and torn bed base, this was visible and looked awful. I could not communicate my needs via the ring bell intercom nor by telephone because staff was not available. I had to use the fire exit for exit and entry to my room for two of the four days that I was there. It was not acceptable for me because of the stairs. They had parties in the front receptions rooms over the two days. No one was allowed access through the front of the hotel. The restaurant next door did not provide breakfast and was not open for most of the time. There were noises outside my door during the night which made me afraid for my safety. If I had had an emergency, I would have had to call 999 and not the hotel.

- Anas (5/5): - Fairly calm, decent location. No TV. Quite old fashioned.

- Nurettin (1/5): My stay at the hotel was disappointing from start to finish. - Nothing There is no staff at reception either on phone. There was a plastering and painting work going on i had to ask painter to stop to pass. Dust was everywhere. Bed was towels were not clean there was a oil marks or something else and there was hair probably from previous guests on the bed. Bathroom was new but there was no bath tap and shower pressure was very low. a basic shower took ages. My first day the room i was given somebody else was staying but it was not registered in their system second room bed was dirty and Hotels main night light was coming strait into room. I could not sleep i had to complain after searching and finding the staff. I booked a car park but there is a restaurant under the hotel and their customer uses the car park i could not park my car securely until 10:30 pm again there was no staff to help. I was not happy with the service and booking.com because you should check the basic services for the hotels in your web page. I am not going to use same hotel anymore or any of our staff and i will consider to use booking.com again.
- Johny (7/5): -
- david (7/5): Very satisfactory - Good service all round TV in room
- Paul (2/5): -
- Taurina (7/5): Ok - Ok Okok
- Paul (1/5): - Nothing The Hotel was a building site
The rooms were filthy cigarette burns in the carpets , curtains were stapled to frames were not proper curtains for £85 you can find so much better in Leicester
We didn't stay and we still have not been refunded!
- Georgie (1/5): -
- Mary (3/5): Dissapointed. - No breakfast no evening meal. It was a disgrace and very dissapointed. Could have told us the were doing up the hotel.
- Uday (10/5): -
- Anton Redders (1/5): -
- Doreth (5/5): - Parking Mend broken stuff and a coat of paint
- Alison (5/5): Cheap - Free parking
Bed linen was clean No TV in room
Shower cubicle old and grouting grubby.
- Leslina (10/5): -
- qazi (4/5): -
- Brian (5/5): It was OK but I won't be returning. - You get what you pay for! Check-in was OK, but it is unusual to have to sign a disclaimer on booking in! The room was small, the bed was comfortable enough although the springing was bad and one 'bottomed out' hard when sitting down on the bed. Cleanliness was OK. The shower didn't drain very well and I cut short my shower before it overflowed onto the floor; the shower door didn't close properly because the top rail isn't correctly fitted. There seems to be no facilities at all in the hotel other than a coffee vending machine at reception. The TV turned itself on at 5am and woke me up. There was no-one on reception at check-out to report any problems to. Again, you get what you pay for.
- Turvey (1/5): Did not stay - Hotel was nothing like the pictures advertised was run down dirty and unkept beds had not been changed found pubic hair in the sheets shower had no attachment to wall and was filthy complained and was offerd a different room witch turned out to be worse than the first then when complained about the other room that was pre booked my mother was offerd a new room witch turned out to be the room I had just been moved from
- Alex (5/5): -
- Laudrum (9/5): -
- Michael (5/5): - Central location No milk in , shower panel didn't open correctly, no bath towels had to ask . Most of all security light shining in bedroom alnight couldn't sleep asked regarding this got we will look into it
- Louise (8/5): Was lovely quet stay - Was a decent size, easy to park easy to find
- Wayneamoore (8/5): Very good -
- Helen (4/5): Disappointing - Room generally clean, sheets and bathroom etc Decor, bed & fittings are very tired. Shower head rail broken so difficult to shower, street very noisey with no double glazing. Room had a very bright light outside the window all night with no black out blinds. Bed very worn so sagged to the middle.
- Robert (6/5): Good location, spoiled by receptionist - Hotel was Ok , but a bit dated, door ito te room handle was falling off, bit scare couldn't get out if a fire and the attitude of the lady on reception last night was downright rude, i let myself i with my fob asked if you could get adrik in the restaurant would have been ok if she had just said no , but added do stay in this hotel as i haven't seen you before, atange as i had just come in a locked front door with a fob given to residents
- Andy (2/5): Very disappointing - The location The place looks very run down and could do with a bit of TLC. The first room we were given was unbearably hot with no windows that could opened. We were then offered another room that was just as hot but had 2 windows that opened and an electric fan, which had see better days. We accepted that but were then offered a room at the back that was cooler but my wife and the receptionist got stuck in the room and couldn't open the door. The receptionist called her colleague who came and got them out eventually (note: there was no phone in the rooms). We went with the second option rather than getting stuck.
The bed was very soft, a bit like sleeping on a trampoline and the bathroom had a hand held shower that didn't hang on the broken wall fixings and, guess what, there was no hot water. Thankfully we were only there for one night.
The receptionist were very kind though.
- Pam (1/5): Ruined my family reunion - Run down when asked anything we were told manager had to be asked.no means of contacting any staff overnight. Only one drink in room. I asked for water to take meds.manager had to be asked, none arrived.so hot and run down and no breakfast available we were told to go in New Portuguese restaurant and ask. Very unpleasant atmosphere in the hotel as if something was being hidden
- Daniel (6/5): Pleasant - Basic digs with free parking. Bed was big for a single. Not the cleanest place, shower didn't drain so worried it might flood.
- Richard (2/5): Lucky it was just one night - Not much Worn out, tired, needs a reverb
- Lewis (1/5): Bad - The whole place had an appearance of neglect and decay.
Waited 20mins at reception despite the smell and lack of service.
It was so awful we decided to cut our losses as the booking was non-refundable and we drove into town to stay at the Ibis. We were informed that the Regency is one of the two most complained about places to stay in Leicester.
It's a doss house and shouldn't cost more than £20 a room not £80!
This place shouldn't be listed with Booking.com without masses of warnings.
I even phoned before we went to ask if they had refitted and improved as the reviews were so bad. Their assurances were unfounded.
I wish we had taken some photos but the whole place felt unsafe so we left as soon as we could.
- Richard (2/5): Lucky it was just one night - No much Old worn out
- Hassane (3/5): Poor - The hotel is old, the room colour is horrible, dark, it's not clean, the toilet flush doesn't work The whole thing I didt like
- Morgan (2/5): Regency Hotel - From check in to check out,the service was terrible, arrived at the Hotel at 3 pm,there was no body at reception, after 25 minutes and a few phone calls the receptionist finally turned up,by then the queue for check in had doubled. When we finally checked in,turns out some of the bedding had been left in the passage way on the way to my room. The mattress on the bed was sunken in,had a very uncomfortable nights sleep.I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Daniel (3/5): Necessary at time but would not go back - Location good - room was not. Smelt of weed Needs updating used to be a really nice hotel
- Watt (3/5): Very stuffy and noisy. Expensive fir a very basic room. - Room was very small, some wallpaper was hanging off, Shower was terrible, bed made you role into the middle, and nowhere to sit where there weren't lots of owners family sitting there. and the TV didn't work
- Jane (10/5): Lovely staff, lovely room, brilliant nights sleep. - Lovely staff, really comfortable bed, lovely clean room and so quiet. Definitely would stay here again. Nothing, our trip was brilliant all round.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Oh dear... - When we arrived, we waited around 10 minutes (despite ringing the bell 3 times) to be checked in. Once in our room, my partner went to the toilet and the toilet was spraying out water, alot of water on the floor. Called down to Reception to have the comments "It hasnt done this before" and "was it like this before you came?"! Told we had to wait for Maintainance. We waited a while, but we were on a tight schedule and needed to get ready for a wedding. Then was told Maintainence were an hour away! Eventually, with some pushing, we were moved to another room. Hotel overall is awfull, paint peeling, shoddy paint work (just massive patches left different colours), ripped curtains, stained carpets, broken toilets, shower zip tied together, loose wires, broken furniture. The whole hotel looks like its being held together with sellotape. No amount of paint or aut fresheners will mask the fact the place needs to be demolished. I'll give credit where credit is due though - the bed was comfy.
- Rachael (5/5): Nice staff ok room - The room was basic but the bed was comfortable Paid more than what I thought I should
- Yasmin (6/5): My stay at the Recency Hotel - Leicester - I'm glad that the hotel is undergoing ren The shower on the first night had cold water coming out and was really high up
- John (1/5): Dreadful experience - The hotel & staff were so bad they I had to leave the property and find somewhere else to stay.
- Nash (10/5): Exceptional - Showers didn’t really work?
- MATTHEW (4/5): Friendly service but very shoddy accommodation - I could list a long list of complaints about this hotel which is several decades past it's hayday. The falling apart furnishings, the dust and dirt every where, the shower that you barely get into and is either then burning hot or not and then the water doesn't run away, the TV that switches itself on when it wants to, or the bizarrely worrying amount of air fresheners all over the room to name a few, or I could just say thank you for the polite and friendly service and leave it at that.
- Mohammed (1/5): Will never come back, will recommend not to brave in. Pictures misleading. - nothing The Hotel is outdated, smelly and dirty. The room was basic. The bathroom was leaking, the carpet damp, the door (still using a key0 could not open easily because of the carpet. The bed not comfortable. There is damp in the walls. no cleaning services. No restaurent. Reception only partially available. You had to ring a bell and wait for 10 minutes.
this was awful for an £80 per night. Disgraceful.
- Verified traveler (4/5): It's okay - Service was great, the room not so much. Radiator didn't work so slept in coldness gathering warmth underneath the blanket.
Just to note, bring your own iron, hair dryer etc it's just a nice simple hotel (loved the teddy tho)
- Morris (1/5): Bad - NA NA

- Leslina (10/5): Excellent stay - I liked the location , staff was excellent . Room was clean . Thanks you overall.
- Thomas (2/5): N/a - N/a Needs a lot of TLC it was tired and dirty
- Michaela (10/5): Lady behind reception very kind and helpful and the Valentin decoration in our room was perfect. - Lady behind reception and valentine decoration in room There is nothing to don’t like
- Kieran (4/5): Poor - Had to change room heating not working no kettle stain on sheet had too get two duvet for next room very cold door had to lock from inside your room think that’s fire hazard
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - Welcoming and nice property Small TVs but acceptable
- Lily (6/5): It is a good safe place for short stay for a family or alone. - The rooms are clean and well-maintained, and it is good to see that good-quality toiletries are now provided in the bathroom. I would suggest checking the room's heating and WiFi before handing it over to the guest.
- Williams (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (9/5): Just what I needed - Having had a very stressful day and a very negative experience at a previous hotel in the area, the absolute gentleman behind the desk were amazing… they listened, cared and helped me so much more than I expected…. I’ll definitely recommend Absolutely nothing to complain about at all…such great value for money, great night sleep…

- Inayah (2/5): Very poor -
- Lucy (5/5): Passable -
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Jonathan (1/5): The worst hotel in Leicester by far. - I stay in Leicester every week and this is my worst ever. The property looks so attractive from the front and is in a great location but as soon as you step one foot inside you will soon realise…. I paid a non refundable room rate, so decided to stay but did consider sleeping in my car. I didn’t use the bathroom. Everything
- Michael (1/5): No breakfast, no evening meal, dirty and rubbish bags everywhere also smashed up cars at rear - Nothing Everything
- Caitlin (1/5): 0 stars would be given if possible - Nothing, I was due to stay at this hotel and when I arrived they were under going major refurbishment works which I was not made aware of prior to booking therefore I was unable to stay at the venue due to my health conditions and the risks the dust posed. Unacceptable venue more like a construction site than a hotel, staff very unhelpful reusing to help with a refund.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lee (1/5): Disgusting dirty rooms, spent a long time trying to find another hotel after check in but nothing available so had to ma - Absolutely nothing Absolutely everything
- Simon (2/5): Horrible - Leaving was the best part of it all Nothing ! No heater in the room , other room smelled really bad , shower was awfully dirty!!
- David (6/5): Pleasant -
- Horace (6/5): Pleasant -
- Shahena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gregor (6/5): Pleasant - Not a lot. It has parking. I saw a member of staff once. He gave me my key. I saw no one else. Not even another guest. It's not really a hotel, it's just somewhere to sleep. As such, it's too expensive. Go somewhere else.
- Richard (1/5): Dump, shithole, filthy, stale smoke !! - What a absolute shithole… you shouldn’t even be advertising this disgusting place for people to stay in Everything
- John (1/5): We didn’t stay place was a dump z - The hotel was a dump, dirty, mattresses dumped in the car park piles of rubble and rubbish friidge thrown out smashed up wooden shed, 2 smashed up cars in car park. It was so bad we didn’t even get out of our vehicle. It was a dirty hovel.
- Ddf (10/5): Exceptional -
- Svetlana (4/5): Disappointing - Overpriced! Cracked walls , cold rooms .
- Tolulope (1/5): Bad -
- Ddf (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wajid (6/5): Pleasant -
- Richard (1/5): worst hotel we have ever stayed in - nothing, it was terrible. the room had mould in it, the duvet cover hid the dirtiest duvet you have ever seen 😳 I have photos. the bathroom was gross, the toilet was dirty. we wish we had never stayed. see above. the whole experience was shocking. wish he had left. couldn't cancel. please don't stay here if you want a nice stay. would like a refund. left at 5.40am as we couldn't stand the smell anymore. it costed £89 what a rip off. There was also 2 smashed up cars in the car park which made you uneasy about leaving your own car.
- Peter (8/5): Very good - Near the centre
- Lucy (1/5): I was excited to leave as it felt unsafe. - There were no positives about this hotel. The property felt unsafe- it was burgled on our return to the property. Then the front door was left open after us notifying staff.
The property wasn't clean and fell well below a very basic standard.
The car park was full of old and disused cars. 2 of which had windows smashed in and doors ripped off.
The property smelt- stale in rooms and like smoke in our corridor.
The toilet seat and bath had strange marks/stains.
Lamps, headboards and curtains hadn't been cleaned/dusted.
Several thing seemed to be damaged, e.g wardrobe doors, tables etc.
The price was extortionate. If it had been a cheap room I wouldn't have minded the above
- Michelle (1/5): the worst place I have ever stayed - nothing!!!!! the place is an absolute disgrace and so are the staff, this place should be shut down as it is not safe for customers beds being help up by cable ties, a toilet bowthat is black even after flushing because its old and dirty, cables with wires hanging out from things, a lamp was a light bulb with not shade on it, the place smelt dirty and was dirty, mouldy walls. it looked on par with a trap/drug house and was an awful experience staying there and a complete waste of money. I explained to staff and they didn't even apologize or do anything about it, no shampoo or body wash or soap to use at all and the toilet paper was half a role! Never ever would I recommend this place to anyone
- Charles (1/5): Terrible shouldn’t be on booking.com - Nothing it’s a dump Everything. Smashed up cars in the car park. Dirt and litter everywhere. No heating. Constant road noise from the windows that don’t close properly with no double glazing. Dirt and mould in the rooms and on the ceilings. The bathroom sweet was ancient with constant dripping taps. Extremely loud extractor fan in another room which goes on for about 30 minutes every time they use it all through the night. No soft door closures so doors banging every 5 minutes. No dinning facilities. One big towel and one hand towel for two people that were stained. Heating didn’t work no matter how you adjusted the radiators. Holes in duvet and pillows that were paper thin.
- Ddf (7/5): A good place to say with very minor worries which easily fixable And I would certainly stay here again - But quiet, convenient Unfortunately, the TV didn’t work due to 40 and termination. The shower was very port, not powerful at all however it was compensated by having a bath which was very comfortable but overall a good stay
- Katie (2/5): Very poor - We saw a cat on the porch Not very clean, TV didn’t work and had no remote,
- Usama (4/5): - There was no soup and shampoo available in the toilet.
- Ddf (1/5): Bad -
- Bernard (2/5): Shocking - Electrical socket broken and exposed. No spoon for tea making in fact no tea just coffee. UHT milk out of date. Room smells of effluent.
- Ddf (9/5): Superb -
- Mackoy (1/5): Very bad - Nothing That place was nasty and should not be on booking.com
